📱 Modpost Food Competition!!

Hey r/Switzerland!

It's me again, u/TheRealMudi! After our last successful event; the Photography Competition, I've returned to you with another event: Swiss Food Week!

The idea is simple: from Monday, the 12th of October to Sunday, 18th of October, we celebrate Swiss food by making it, sharing it, and voting for our favourites.

Regional specialities, family recipes, baked goods, so on. As long as it is Swiss or has cultural/social relevance to Switzerland, it is accepted!

---

How to participate

Make a photo of your dish and post it on the subreddit, you need to have [Food Week] in the title! Ideally you include the dish's name and a little about it. Recipes are very welcome!

How the competition works

  • One post per person, featuring food you made and photographed yourself.
  • Upvote the posts you like.
  • Votes are counted on the 20th of October, 12:00.

The entry with the highest upvotes at the deadline wins eternal bragging rights and receive their unique flair: Swiss Food Champion 2026 (or another flair they might request).

I hope that many will participate, and have fun! :D

📱 Modpost How to agree to the rules and post on the subreddit

Hello all,

As you may know, we've started to use the "Read the Rules" app recently to support us in the battle against spam, advertisement and such. Accepting them is very easy, however if you don't know how to, take a look below. You find below the steps for Mobile, new and old Reddit.

Mobile (official Reddit App)

  1. Click on the round button with three dots in the top right of your screen.
  2. In the submenu click on "Read the rules" at the bottom
  3. Read the rules while scrolling down. Once you reach the "Acknowledgement" section, toggle the button and submit.
Process to acknowledge the rules via the reddit app

On third party apps, it's maybe best to use the process for old reddit in case you don't see this option.

Desktop (new Reddit)

  1. Click on the round button with three dots in the top right of your screen
  2. Click on "Read the rules"
  3. Read the rules while scrolling down. Once you reach the "Acknowledgement" section, toggle the button and submit.
Step 1 and 2 to agree to the rules on new Reddit
Step 3 to agree to the rules on new Reddit

Old reddit

For old Reddit the process changes a little, however, it is still very easy.

  1. Click on rules link in "Please read the rules before posting" in the sidebar to the right. This will open the rules page, read through them .
  2. Scroll down further, until you see the "Moderators" Section in the sidebar on the right. Click on "MESSAGE THE MODS"
  3. Create a Modmail. Title: "Read The Rules", Message: "Acknowledged." and send it.

This is it, you will then receive a confirmation immediately.

Step 1 to agree to the rules on old reddit
Step 2 to agree to the rules on old reddit
Step 3 to agree to the rules on old reddit

Please note: the process for old reddit also works on mobile and such, in case there should be an issue.

Of course we're also available via Modmail for questions.

You asked where to download the 1:1 Switzerland in Minecraft. The first part is out: the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO area, free to play.

Thanks for all the comments on my last post. Many of you wanted to walk around your own valley or summit, so here is a first region to try: the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch, from Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen across the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau down the Aletsch Glacier to the Lötschental.

It's built from swisstopo's open geodata, one block per metre, so every place on the national map is exactly where it is in reality. On the website you can click on the map and get the teleport command for that spot.

Free download, no sign-up. All of Switzerland follows later.

My gym is trying to scam me out of 899 chf

So, apparently it's legal for my gym contract to say that they can automatically renew my membership after the end of the contract unless I cancel 3 months before.

They are refusing to cancel my outstanding bill of course, greedy bastards, but, I went on the konsumentenschutz website and it's stated that in order for that to be legal they should have told me a little bit before the 3 months that they were gonna renew it (Eine automatische VertragsverlÀngerung ist zulÀssig:

I told them but they refuse anyway cause the contract clearly says 3 months.

Have you got any advice for me? Am I fucked or is there someone I can talk to for help?

I've been using these forever but in cooking videos I see people using many options for it (liquid for example), and I'm wondering if there's a stock that's better than Knorr ? It can be in any shop, I'll adapt.

Meine Fragen an euch

Data breach at quitt.ch

Just received an email from quitt.ch regarding a cyber attack where around 30k employee details have been compromised/put up for sale after a hacker gained access to their platform. The data leaked includes all personal details including AHV numbers, residence permits and other sensitive information such as IBANs etc.

Has anyone else received the same email or know how to proceed in such a case? Appreciate any advice.

Edit - editing to add that I never signed up with quitt, my former employer gave my details to them in order to process my monthly salary. (Without my prior consent)

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my love for this Swiss classic - Pingu!
Pingu was a huge part of my childhood and even now as an adult I love rewatching the episodes. As a hobby, I sculpt polymer clay figures and I’ve made a few Pingu and Robby figures as well.
Hope these bring some good memories for you too! Noot noot

Nah man this is crazy. There was a Vote whether the tower should be built or not and it passed with 70% yes as people naturally want the 130 affordable flats this development is gonna produce.

Now some dude shows up and delays the whole thing for another year or more? Some people are just selfish as fuck man. This makes me angry. Its not like nature is getting destroyed or whatever as there is already an older building standing on the lot. High-rise buildings are imho a good way to create more housing in a place with not much free space left.

People are always complaining that no new living space is created and when it's planned some other dudes show up and block the whole plan for whatever reason. Always the same...

After a vote there should be no more Einsprachen gopfetami.

Downsizing wardrobe and furniture in Canton Vaud.

We’ve got too much stuff. Decent men’s clothes that haven’t been worn in years. Children’s clothes from a teen who will no longer use them.

Several antique wardrobe cabinets (over a hundred years old, so large, but in good shape).

Carpets, bed frames, camping equipment, and suitcases.

Most are too good to throwaway, and that seems wasteful.

Any concrete solutions or advice on who to contact about distributing these items will be appreciated. Of course it would be lovely to sell some of it, and others would be good to donate to those who can use it.

If possible, the names of some organizations or businesses that would be helpful or interested in the area between Geneva and Lausanne (closer to Nyon the better).

Thank you!

Starting a FH-Schule Bachelor in 2027 at 24 years old

I messed up big time and it’s taken a toll on me mentally. I started studying Mechanical Engineering in 2025, noticed in January of this year, it was not for me, but due to familiar pressure. I continued under the pretence that’ll pass, did everything I could studied like crazy during the summer holidays and still failed both semesters. Now I’m technically repeating it, forgot to deregister myself so I have to pay the school fees even if I don’t study.

Problem is, I feel lost and embarrassed. I have currently no job, my friends are a year ahead of me and some are younger, others have a proper job and the only jobs I can get are cashier (not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

So I am left with two choices, continue at ETH and pass so I can finish before I turn 27 or stop start at a PIBS job in engineering or get a bachelor in business to study as an HR/Marketing field, and chance is I finish when I turn 28.

Problem: AI is making things difficult, I am so scared that if I choose a major I am passionate about such as in the business field (HR/ Marketing), like I originally wanted to, I would not have a lucrative job cause AI is turning the job market upside-down.

Though at the same time, I hate myself for not pursuing it in 2025, and also for not pursuing it this year, cause then I genuinely wouldn’t have minded cause I would finish school at 26 years old.

I feel like I haven’t achieved anything, and feel like my life is ruined. I am also trying to get a job, which is proving to be harder than I thought, even though I worked as a cashier since I was 16. I haven’t found anything, and the jobs available are temporary. Cause the goal was to atleast work 80-100% and save for university since I’ll have to provide for it myself.

It’s just disheartening seeing my peers, finish their masters or having passed the first year or starting and I have yet to start. Feel like a big disappointment.

PSA for anyone with a Salt mobile contract: "Mobile Security" scam option costing 3.95 CHF / month added silently to account

I don't actually know when this was added, but after checking my Salt dashboard I discovered a subscription to this app.

Needless to say that after checking on their website for more details, it turns out that it's a completely pointless scam.

Beware.

Can I charge my phone at a Cafe?

I have to stay at a cafe in a small shopping center for approx. 3 hours, and I have ordered a drink and a dessert (will order more if needed). The thing is, I need to charge my phone but I'm not sure if that's rude in Switzerland. I would ask the owner, but I just got curious of the cafe etiquette here. As a Swiss, do you think it's rude to charge phone at a cafe? What are some unspoken rules at Swiss cafe that you should do or NOT do?

Getting up so early - is this just a Swiss thing?

I'm always amazed (being a Brit) at the 'early riser' mentality in Switzerland especially for tradespeople. If you have an appointment at 8am, they are usually there at 7:45. When I take my car into the garage, the place is buzzing at 7am. Incredible application to work which I haven't seen elsewhere in Europe...

New job, Zivildienst, and a baby

Swiss mods, what a stupid way to enforce your guidelines. After I post you take it off because I didn’t agree to the terms and whatnot. Maybe do that beforehand in the disclaimer section? As good as the Bundesrat I guess.

Fellow redditors
I’m in a bit of a peculiar situation. I am starting a new role in November and I have a civil service due in February. Now, I’m also expecting a child in February during my civil service. I already know that I’m only allowed 3 days off during civil service due to my newborn (which sucks ass but it is what it is). Now to my question: do I tell my employer already about the unborn child? There was never a good moment during the assessment and interview period to bring this up and it’s my first child and I don’t want it to be a reason for them to not give me the job. They know about the civil service and are as displeased with it as an employer can be. What should I do? Do i bring this up to my future boss or with HR? Second question, even though I’m in civil service during the date of my newborn am I still allowed to take those 10 days of paid leave for my newborn? Has anybody been in civil service during first time fatherhood? Any experience reports? Any helpful advice will be most appreciated!

Whats the point of the second Lötschberg tunnel line?

Right now the highest frequency from Spiez to Visp is on Saturdays with 4 trains going that direction between 9:48-10:48, whereas there are 3 trains going the opposite direction between 9:27-10:54

Generally the line supports one train in every thirty minutes in each direction, so 6 trains per hour using the tunnel at minimum. This capacity is rarely used. Through large stretches of the day there are 4-5 trains per hour using the tunnel.

So what is the plan how to use the increased capacity?

Will there be direct trains from Interlaken to Visp instead, or whats the idea there?

AuPair termination in Zurich

Hi there, I am an Au Pair staying in Zurich and I would really like to terminate my contract. My mental heath is deteriorating quite a lot and I would like to go home and pursue my studies. I have been here for nearly 5 months and my contract is for 12 months. I want to go back home in December. I think my host family are quite reasonable so I hope there is a mutual agreement when terminating my contract. If they aren't what is the worst possible outcome from this. Is there anything I should be wary about. Thank you

P.s. I heard I could be kicked out but I have an EU passport and some family friends staying in Switzerland that I may stay with if that so happens.

There is few posts how there is products in local grocery stores that might have slightly misleading labels or just intentional miss leading.

Do we need to bring-in this guy or is there already something similar in place?

Did you summit the Breithorn today? I might have some photos of you

I was at Gornergrat today (Oct 11, 11:50–12:10) and used a telephoto lens to photograph a few people summiting Breithorn.

I thought it would be nice to try to find the people in the pictures and send them their photos, so they can have a little memory of their 4000!

If you or someone you know was climbing the Breithorn around that time, feel free to comment or send me a DM.
