His stats are solid, both at 2B & AB, & I would love to see this for him! Thoughts on whether he’ll get it? What an exciting team this has been, & I can’t wait to see him get even better next season! 🖤 Go Sox!

I'll always appreciate 2026 as it brought the franchise back from the abyss, but we can only be cautiously optimistic 2027, in whatever truncated form, will be an improvement.

Hoping for good things but don't get the hopes too up!

Do we think Brooks will have a spot on the roster next season? He is only 26 years old and still unproven. He missed the entire year with an injury but is going to be fighting for a spot on a much (much) better version of this team than he last played on.

Opinion Rikuu Nishida deserves a shot next year

44 Upvotes

not saying Nishida deserves a guaranteed starting spot, but I think he’s earned a legitimate opportunity to prove himself. His minor league numbers are solid across 2023-2026 at every level: (285 average/405 OBP and 126 SB)

He’s a contact hitter who rarely strikes out and draws a fair amount of walks. Watching us struggle with strikeouts against Cleveland in the playoffs to me shows why a guy like Nishida could be valuable. When our power hitters are cold and we’re striking out 15+ times, having someone who can put the ball in play and potentially manufacture a run with his speed gives us a different way to win. A way we’re totally lacking.

Think about it this way, in one of our many situations in games 3-5 when we had RISP and got nothing out of it thanks to strikeouts, having a guy who could’ve just given us a bloop would’ve been great. Or when Williams was absolutely raking in the early innings, a double poked down the 3rd base line could’ve totally changed the dynamic of the game.

So I say give him a legitimate shot in spring training to play his way onto the team. Because if he can replicate his minor league numbers, I think he could be an X factor. But at least to me, it seems like he’s already been written off by Getz because he can’t hit for power.

Edit: to clarify, I’m talking about him at best as a platoon bat or utility guy. Essentially being a potential Acuna upgrade. Not expecting him to be a second Antonacci

Discussion Gavin Williams and Cade Smith broke our brains

24 Upvotes

its amazing how Gavin Williams and Cade Smith broke Sox fans brains. There are offseason overhaul proposals based on our performance vs them all over the place, here, twitter, sox forums, podcasts, etc.. Funny how we didn't hear much about the K problem in the Astros series, or in the regular season outside of Colson/Mune (warranted imo).

There were such signficant jumps in K% for our hitters that you have to imagine something else was afoot.. like how Gavin Williams threw 100+ and had pinpoint control, or that our guys are playoff inexperienced.. or both. Looking at how Cleveland pitched us, its like they made adjustments that we never countered. It was all inside after Braden's double.

K%, 0-2 years experience

Meidroth
2025 Regular Season: 14%
2026 Regular Season: 21%
Playoffs: 29%

Braden
2025 Regular Season: DNP
2026 Regular Season: 20%
Playoffs: 50%

Teel
2025 Regular Season: 26%
2026 Regular Season: 35%
Playoffs: 45%

Peters
2025 Regular Season: 12PA
2026 Regular Season: 18%
Playoffs: 33%

Colson
2025 Regular Season: 29%
2026 Regular Season: 29% pre-backspasms - 42% after
Playoffs: 42%

Murakami
2025 Regular Season: DNP
2026 Regular Season: 35%
Playoffs: 52%

Antonacci and Vargas both had K% under 20%.

Veterans:

Grichuk:
2025 Regular Season: 16%
2026 Regular Season: 22%
Playoffs: 36%

Benintendi:
2025 Regular Season: 17%
2026 Regular Season: 24%
Playoffs: 67%

Doyle (do the Rockies count?):
2025 Regular Season: 25%
2026 Regular Season: 33%
Playoffs: 33%

I am not saying dont be mad about it or anything, I still am, but a lineup overhaul is not warranted. Williams/Smith had MVP type performances. I get the Colson/Mune debate, but lets not act like this applies to every hitter. Our lineup had 6 hitters with less than 2 years of experience and at least 4 of them have shown that strikeouts are not a MAJOR flaw historically.

On the topic of Colson, trading him in the offseason based on his K% doesn't hold up to me. Although his second half was a large sample size, the sample size before that was large too. We have plenty of time to see how he adjusts and prepares in the offseason, or heal up if injury was hindering his swing. This applies to all our hitters as well.

Opinion Kyle Teel

30 Upvotes

This is NOT a trash talking post or snarky/critical post about my beloved Sox or Kyle Teel, who I have mad love & respect for; it’s a genuine question I’d love to hear thoughts on:

Kyle Teel (imho) is a great defensive player—not only does he do everything he can to get the ball where it needs to be, minimizing the damage from a potential or actual wild pitch, etc.; he’s also been clutch wrt ABS challenges & has a great eye when he’s playing catcher.

However, when he’s batting, I’ve often seen him swing at pitches that are nowhere near the strike zone (admittedly, he’s improving, & I was so proud of & happy for him for giving us our first hit in Game 5).

My question is: is it simply harder to properly eyeball & respond accordingly to a particular pitch when batting (as opposed to catching), or is this just a Teel thing that can be remedied with more practice?

I really like him & think he’s an asset to the team—not just talent-wise, but because he brings a lot of heart & passion to the game, no matter what the score or inning is—imho, he treats every single play like it could be the game changer, which I love. But if anyone has insight about why he seems to be really good at calling pitches properly as a catcher but not as much as a batter, chime in! All I ask is please, no disrespect or trashing the Sox or him—yes, Game 5 was really hard, but I’m proud of how far this team has come so quickly & love watching them. Go Sox!!! ❤️

Opinion 2027 Pitching

10 Upvotes

I am of the strong opinion that a teams best pitchers need to be made starters and the white sox seem to do the opposite of that.

I think the best thing the sox can do to help advance further in the playoffs next year is to make grant taylor, hagen smith, and noah schultz starters and let them pitch like real starters in the postseason. im projecting upside a bit with smith and schultz, but your best pitchers should get the most innings, and be able to know when they will be used and prepare accordingly.

With a playoff rotation that includes burke, taylor, and smith and/or schultz i think we match the guardians game for game. vasil will be back to fill a bullpen spot and relievers are much easier to find than starters.

OK group throw your tomatoes now..

Original Content Japanese fans share their personal experiences with how the White Sox popularity is spreading in Japan

359 Upvotes

Original thread: https://x.com/SoxTranslator/status/2109504321398206615

@F1qLOen4rfyFPJ4

“I originally started watching the Sox because I was a Murakami fan, but eventually I became a fan of the whole team. Even my elderly mother started watching, and now we text each other every day about that day’s game. She wasn’t even interested in MLB before, so this has been the biggest change in my life this year.”

@yomogi1616

“Did the White Sox win today?” “Who’s in the starting lineup?” “The pitcher did a great job today!” “Vargas had his jersey unbuttoned again 😂” “Show me the Mune! He was yelling it again today!” That was just everyday conversation in our household.

@hikigatarist1

“Back in 2004, when Yakult Swallows pitcher Shingo Takatsu made the jump to MLB, he joined the White Sox. Armed with his frisbee-like pitches, he went 24 consecutive games without allowing a run to start the season and earned the nickname ‘Mr. ZERO.’ I even bought a White Sox cap because of him. This year is the first time I’ve rooted for the White Sox since then. When a Japanese player is doing well, it makes you want to cheer that much harder!”

@mentamajo

“People around me hear me talk about the White Sox so much that more and more of them have started getting curious about the team and checking their game results on the news. A few people at work have even told me they’re more interested in the White Sox than the Dodgers!”

@akiPglfsi

“There are other MLB teams with Japanese players, but this is the first time I’ve ever gotten this fired up about an MLB team as a whole, not just one player like Murakami.

It’s the story of a team climbing up from the bottom, but more than anything, the atmosphere throughout the team under Manager Venable is just infectious. They play exciting, fun baseball that’s a joy to watch. And I’m seeing more and more people around me becoming Sox fans, too!”

@lala_lalagz

“I originally got hooked on Ohtani and subscribed to SPOTV, which got me into watching MLB. But between Mune’s success and Ohtani not having quite the same impact on me anymore, before I knew it, I was cheering for the White Sox every single day. In NPB, I’m a Chiba Lotte Marines fan, and this year’s rise reminds me of the Bobby Valentine craze back in 2005. Even the uniforms look similar!”

@NamatamagoGohan

“I called my dad after we hadn’t spoken for a while because of some unresolved tension between us. Things were awkward at first, and desperately trying to find something to talk about, I managed to squeeze out, ‘The White Sox have been so fun to watch lately. I’ve been watching every day and I’m running on no sleep.’

He replied, with the biggest smile in his voice, ‘Me too.’ We ended up having a good conversation. Thank you, Chicago White Sox.

Discussion Current roster moves.

If I were Chris Getz. Vargas, Peters, and Antonacci are all getting perk extensions. Mune and Benintendi get an offer but need to show a season of improved work on a 1 year deal. Burke, Smith, and Fedde stay. Newcomb, Taylor and Hicks get the opportunity to try for starter roles. Meidroth is the heart and soul of the infield so stays. Both Montgomerys are open trade capital, as well as the rest of the pitching rotation/bullpen. Randal Grichuk and L.A Acuna are renewed for bench positions pending better fits. Thoughts?
