Discussion Brooks Baldwin
Do we think Brooks will have a spot on the roster next season? He is only 26 years old and still unproven. He missed the entire year with an injury but is going to be fighting for a spot on a much (much) better version of this team than he last played on.

Unfortunately sometimes injury happens and causes you to be left behind. He was a part of this until he got hurt. I think the organization has filled the role he was going to serve with the emergence of Antonacci and Peters. He’s likely a depth guy in AAA or a potential throw in for a trade.

They went through several veterans and rookies this season trying to fill that spot, none of which are long term solutions. While it did bring peters up, they had to keep moving infielders to the outfield with mixed results. I think if he does decent in spring training he’ll be fine

Remember that Baldwin was an infielder too!

Antonnaci will remain a problem for guys like Baldwin in our org.
He’s probably going to keep playing left field in 2027. I doubt they’re interested in moving meidrotb to short full time. They can get Antonacci at bats in the infield and DH, but he’s probably going to play a lot of left field again next year. Which is really going to block space for guys like Baldwin to get active time.
It’s a good problem to have.

Idc what anybody says me and my dad love this dude. His stats never really reflected it but I believe he could be a really good player.

Same...I thought he was a gamer. Showed lots of hustle and fight on terrible teams. Bonus: I pulled his rookie auto from Topps Chrome.

Wouldn’t mind it. Feel like he was one of the parts in 2025 that breathed some life into the team and laid the foundation for what we got to experience in 2026. Regardless of what happens with the lockout, I fully anticipate that the organization will more or less run the roster back with the exception of a trade or two. I don’t anticipate the team going on any sort of free agency spending spree. Would love to be wrong!

Baby face Brooksy? Asolutely hope so. Kid looked great in 2025. Before he got hurt I thought he was gonna be a GUY this year. Thankfully Sam came out. Would love to see him come back strong and earn a spot back.

Might be an upgrade on Acuna as a utility guy. Just doesn't carry the same pinch running value.

I like him more than Acuña. But hopefully they’ll add someone else that I like more than both those guys.

It all depends on what guys do in spring
They aren't going into spring with a bunch of holes in the the roster for once guys are going to have to force their way on the team

He and quero could maybe net a lottery ticket young pitcher in a trade?

I’m not giving up on Quero yet.

He's a 23 year old catcher. Near zero chance the Sox are giving up on him as well.

Giving up on and trading for needed starting pitching are two different things

Trade Quero for an established pitcher? Yeah, I can accept that.
Trade Quero for a lottery ticket pitcher? Hell no.

His defense has been below average at most every position he's played. That's not what you want from your utility player. As far as a roster spot, it just depends on who is healthy.

He’s a non tender candidate

It doesn't seem that he's arb-eligible. Tenders or non-tenders aren't in play.

In a perfect world, him and/or Tanner Murray have a good spring training and solidify an outfielder spot. That in turn allows Sam to move back to the infield and then we can have conversations about Meidroth taking SS and not playing C.Mont every game. Acuna would be the odd man out in this scenario.
In actuality, I don’t think he makes the team. I didn’t see much from him in both 24 or 25. He just blended in with horrific White Sox teams.

Meidroth is a gg 2nd baseman. Why would you move him? And hes not better defensively than Colson at ss. So now we have worse defense and 2nd and ss? Thats makes no sense. Those positions are too important to have mediocre to bad defense there.

Meidroth has SS experience and I didn’t think he was terrible at the position in 25. Sam is naturally a 2B and while Meidroth has the fielding ability to to be versatile.
I am also fishing for ideas to put some pressure on C.Mont and his starting spot at SS. I think he finds a new gear if he gets pressured for the role and Meidroth is a he’ll of a player that can do that.
Also like I mentioned, I don’t think any of this actually happens. This is wishful thinking starting with brooks Baldwin.

Chase has to use his whole body to get his throws over from short to first. He has a good glove there, but I bet some range plays he wouldn’t be able to make.

Meh. His outfield defense was pretty brutal. If he’s like the last guy off the bench backing up multiple infield positions, that’s fine, but I don’t know if he candle shortstop.
