Self-Promotion (Developer) you can now fish in VR and still watch your actual TV

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, I work on Real VR Fishing for Quest.

Last holiday we threw in a mixed reality mode as kind of a test, not really expecting much. People ended up liking it a lot more than we thought, so we decided to make it a permanent feature.

While we were at it, we added room scanning. You scan your room and pick which parts become the fishing spot, and everything else stays as your real room. So you can leave your TV visible with the game on and fish in the rest of the space. Honestly that’s how a lot of us play anyway lol.

It’s in the base game, so if you’re on Horizon+ you can just jump in and try it.

Curious what you guys think, or what else you’d want to keep visible while fishing.

Photo/Video Through the lens: Quest 3 vs PSVR2 (Part II - Dark Enviroment)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This time im showing only a dark enviroment (in skyrim)

Note: It is not easy to stay in the sweet spot of the PSVR2 with a big phone camera in one hand and in the other a headset while holding my finger over the sensor so it displays the image. I can attest to the fact that chromatic abberation and blur is not in any way as "bad" as seen in the video. Mainly important here are the blacks and colors

Here all I can say is that the compression on the quest using either AV10 or HEVC 10 bit at 200mbit/s was quite... bad. But this is personal preference. But its not a secret that in the dark compression is an issue.

!!! it does not look as blue on the Quest as in the video, especially in the beginning. I tried turning down the exposure a little bit when looking at the fire which helped. But the "blacks" are indeed more grey !!!

When I switched from the quest to the psvr2 to position myself, I was immediately thinking to myself: wow. this looks a lot better.

Quest 3 is nice and clear however! But the PSVR did not seem blurry to me either. A video from a phone camera does neither justice. But judge for yourself!

Self-Promotion (Developer) A hoverboard roguelike! You steer and dodge with your whole body. Demo out now!

I made Hyperlane Highway with the goal of making something that really benefits from being in VR.

Everything is designed to create that immersive, fast, flow state feeling for VR as you get more powerful fighting unique enemies and bosses that get progressively harder. Theres a lot of variety and depth to the kind of cards you can unlock or get and the builds you can make.

This game started with the prototype years ago of my idea for the body leaning locomotion which ended up being quite satisfying and natural to use. Its been a long road to develop this entirely solo but now im happy to share the playable demo with everyone.

The demo is live now on steam with quite a lot included like enemies, bosses, cards, challenges, and some cosmetics to unlock.

If this is something youd be interested in id appreciate you trying it out and letting me know what you think. Im still developing it further with Early Access later this year.

Or id like to hear your thoughts on what your impressions of this demo trailer are.

Demo: Steam link

It doesn't end here. I need your feedback to make this the best hand tracked platformer there ever was.

Self-Promotion (Developer) I made a standalone Quest app that recreates using a 90s PC, from swapping disks to installing Doom

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m the developer of DOSK, a retro PC app for Meta Quest. I wanted to recreate the experience of using an old computer, including the steps before you actually get to play anything.

This video shows inserting and removing floppy disks, installing Doom from a CD, running Windows 98, and browsing the settings. Everything runs on the headset itself, without a connected PC.

Supported disk images appear as floppy disks and CDs on the virtual desk. You can pick them up and insert them into the drives. The hardware buttons work, the CD tray opens and closes, and the activity LEDs flicker while the drives make seek sounds.

It runs DOS software and supports installing Windows 95 and 98 using your own installation media. Compatible games can use 3dfx Voodoo acceleration. There’s also an experimental stereoscopic mode with adjustable depth for supported Voodoo-accelerated games. These still run on the virtual monitor, rather than becoming full VR ports.

For me, swapping disks and hearing the drives work are as much a part of the nostalgia as the games themselves. That’s what I wanted to capture here.

Compatibility and performance vary by title. The commercial games and Windows installation media shown in the video aren’t included.

Self-Promotion (Developer) BIGGEST UPDATE TO REFRACT! - Refract Native & Linux Support (Quest Games on Linux!)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/virtualreality!

Big update for Refract, the free and open-source tool that lets you play Meta Quest games on your PC, in PCVR through SteamVR or flat on your monitor.

Refract Native (Windows)
Games now run their ARM64 code directly on your PC instead of inside the Android Emulator. That makes performance up to 3x better than before. It’s now the default in the launcher.

Linux support
Refract now runs on Linux through Waydroid, with GPU-accelerated Vulkan. You can play in a window or in PCVR through SteamVR, Monado or WiVRn. The launcher works on Linux too.

It’s still experimental and not every game works yet. I’ve only tested Linux on Fedora with an RTX 3080, so I’d love to hear how it goes on other distros and GPUs!

Try your favorite games and let me know how they run on your hardware. I’d love your feedback!

This is an experimental development build. The latest cockpit features have been tested on native Quest; dedicated PCVR testing and performance improvements are ongoing. Stable 72 FPS across gameplay has not yet been achieved.

You need your own supported original Xbox USA/NTSC-U game data. No original game files are included. The Quest importer supports ISO/XISO, ZIP and 7z. For PCVR, extract compressed archives first and import the ISO/XISO.

Discussion VR Mod for Path of Titans

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here are instructions for how to get it going:

https://github.com/cybershrimp23/PathOfTitans_UEVR

This is pretty early on! I wanted to see if the game play would work in VR and it does!

This is not for VR players who still haven't gotten their sea-legs! It's a third person dinosaur survival game so the camera movement is a bit different than traditional VR games.

Because of the way the game works snap-to-turn doesn't really make sense. Your camera angle relative to your dinosaur determines where it bites, so snap to turn would leave you with limited attack capabilities.

It really changes the game dynamics making it easier to see other characters in the game, this is partially because when you maneuver your camera above your dinosaur it still maintains your headset angle (otherwise it would feel aweful), giving you a better view - but I also feel like binocular vision really lets you scan the environment in a way that is hard to do in a flat screen mode; it's almost like it speaks to something we're evolved to do - scan for hunting opportunities.

I was surprised by this but, that was one of the first things I noticed.

Also the new camera dynamics might have changed the fighting dynamics a bit, I haven't played this game enough to know, but it seems like it has - but more experienced players would have to play it to confirm; alternatively it might just turn out I'm a terrible dinosaur.

The game has huge maps which are really amazing and feel very expansive - which is why I wanted to try this in VR, that alone makes it worth experiencing.

I developed this on a BigScreen Beyond 2/w an R9700 (9070XT) and it's very playable at 50% resolution with all the graphics settings turned to high.

Anyways if you find issues or want to contribute - you can use the github repo to clone it , submit PRs, file issues, etc.

If you're excited about this file a support ticket with Alderon Games asking for official VR support:

Photo/Video Simultaneous Hand and Controller tracking using ALVR

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Came across this video a few days ago about ALVR'S multimodal integration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7Odz6Mcem4 making it possible to be able to use hand tracking alongside still having controller inputs and decided to test it on my quest 3 given that i got new knuckle straps, to which it worked.

Surprised this isn't mention more often, it is not the same level of smoothness as having real sensors but it is neat nonetheless!

Discussion I wonder who could bring this game into VR

Thumbnail
store.steampowered.com

It's a pretty simple city builder for Cyberpunks. Not a deep game or difficult to run at all... but the dev has finished with the game content-wise now without giving us a VR mode.

Imagine flying (in an aerolight VTOL, future car, or helicopter), or walking around these hyper-stylized cities in VR. As it is so dependent on building stuff, it might make the prospects of a mod very hard to realize but just wanted to put this out into the universe of possibilities we're currently swimming through.

In general i'd love to see more VR sandboxes that focus on architecture and the potential scale that VR experiences can really knock out of the ballpark.

Discussion I want to make a photo-realistic VR golf game using landing drone footage and approximations. Think Real VR Fishing, but with golf.

Post image

I think we can do it with drone footage, landing the drone on every square foot of the course, including the greens and holes, to capture it all. Then add a Real VR Fishing-style golf club overlay.

What am I missing? Anyone want to join the team?

AI and drone footage

I say we do it!

Discussion Steam frame Casual user review.

I have used the PSVR 1, Oculus Quest 1 and Meta Quest 2, these are what I'm basing my review off of

The Displays/lenes. Pretty damn good displays. I see some people are upset with the LCD option. I use the Frame at about 110% brightness, and the blacks are pretty black, there not really that grey at all. The screen door effect is pretty dang hidden, unless you keep still and focus really hard in one spot you don't notice it. The 120Hz options is very nice, its hard to go back to 72 after playing 120 for a while honestly so that's a very nice feature. The lenses sit VERY close to your face, it hits my eyebrows before my eyelashes, so i have to use the eye spacer. With the eye spacer there's not much of a noticeable FOV decrease i find personally.

The Battery. I only use the streaming from PVCR i don't use the Standalone option. Playing games like Into the Radius, Ghosts of Tabor and pistol whip, they all last approx 1hr 45mins. Which honestly is only a little less then what i would get on my Quest (i understand the quest 2 does all the possessing onboard) I personally got the 20,000 mAh Ugreen 45Wh powerbank (this extends my playtime to 6+ hours) I'm glad that they didn't go with a bigger battery because it makes the whole rig SO LIGHT.

The COMFORT. ITS AMAZING, i love the soft fabric that they used for the face gasket, its very nice on my skin and it doesn't make it irritated like the quest 2 would after a while of use. The battery counterweight is very nice but you definitely need the top head strap that comes with the ergo kit. I wasn't able to get one and i notice it tends to slip down my head a lot when playing physically intense games. The weight distribution and overall weight is very nice, I tend to often forget its on my face when I'm in game its very nice, UNLESS I'm looking straight up or down a lot that's when the strap begins to slip.

The Dongle. I've had some issues with it being a little spotty every now and then but for the most part its not too bad. I'm about 8 feet (2.5m) away from my computer/dongle and it does pretty well. i hope with these future software updates it gets more stable. I noticed the signal actually get very unstable if you simply face 180° away from the dongle, i don't know if i have a thick skull or what, but that's pretty unamusing for 1500$ CAD. Like I'm latterly 10feet away from it. (yes my USB port is 3.1)

The controllers. It was definitely different, after about 3 days of use i got used to the layout of them. The size of the controllers are GREAT for me personally (from tip of middle finger to my wrist is 8 1/4" for reference) the magnetic thumbsticks are VERY nice, super accurate and very luxurious feeling. My left grip however is squeaking very loudly.

The Audio. its pretty buns. it lacks fidelity and obviously bass. I just Bluetooth my Skullcrusher Evos and they work great with no delay. Or I use a audio/power splitter with some moonchu II IEMS and those work great too. (yes they charge and give audio at the same time with no drawbacks)

If you have questions lmk i like geeking out about this thing :)

Discussion Ranking Every Sandbox VR Experience

I got the Summer Unlimited Pass, $150 for unlimited experiences for you and a friend for 3 months.

(Short version)
Recommended:

  1. (Tied) Deadwood Phobia & Deadwood Origins
  2. Squid Games
  3. Curse of Davy Jones
  4. Seekers of the Shard
  5. Deadwood Mansion
  6. Deadwood Valley

Not recommended:
6. Stranger Things Catalyst
7. Rebel Moon: The Descent
8. Amber Sky 2088

Good for children that like dinosaurs:
Age of Dinosaurs

(Long Version)

Recommended

(Tied) Deadwood Phobia & Deadwood Origins
Best zombie shooter with lots of locations, interesting enemies, a great story and very scary! The graphics are excellent with enough balance between action and story to not overwhelm you. It’s the best experience. Both of them are worth it.

Squid Games
Fun, easy to learn, interactive, competitive and kid friendly. A lot like Mario party. If you play it more than once there’s different versions with some different games.

Curse of Davy Jones (pirates)
Liked the different combinations of using fire together as a team. I felt it was short but my friend enjoyed it. There’s plenty of locations and story for it to be enjoyable and unique.

Seekers of the Shard (DnD)
Fun choose your own adventure mechanics. Ranged weapons have a little bit of an advantage. You can choose your own ending and there’s a choice in the middle for a different route if you decide to play again.

Deadwood Mansion
Simple, fun, not complicated, but worst graphics of the experiences. Still one of the most fun ones.

Deadwood Valley
Fun, but still the weakest of the deadwood series. The others have more interesting locations, mechanics, story, and enemies.

Not recommended

Stranger Things Catalyst
Too complicated, hurt my arm from doing repetitive motions. Lots of locations but gameplay was not as fun as using guns. It’s a lot of doing the same action over and over. It’s been recommended by a lot of people here, I’m sure it’s fun for fans of the series.

Rebel Moon
Enemies were repetitive, just shooting the same soldiers. Not as interesting, story was nonsensical. It was recommended by all the employees as their favorite, I’m not really sure why.

Amber Sky 2088
Interesting graphics but boring and confusing gameplay that isn’t explained to you. Enemies jump out of nowhere and there is no coherent objective or story. There is a fun gameplay element with the power ups but that doesn’t make it fun.

(Secret third category)

Good for children that like dinosaurs

Age of Dinosaurs
It’s a kids learning experience. For an adult it was fun but isn’t something I would spend money on as a group activity unless I had a child that liked it.

——-

I posted in this subreddit because most people asking about Sandbox VR post here, and Google promotes it.

If you plan to do it a single time it’s VERY expensive. It’s $110 for a weekday and $120 for a Friday and weekend. The membership ($200 over 3 months) is worth it if you plan to do it more than once. I waited for a deal and got it for $150 for 3 months. I brought a friend every time so it paid for itself the second time I used it. I did 4 experiences in 1 day because I was bored.
