Stop trumps illegal war, would be a good start.
246
u/Vibrantmender20 1d ago
It’s pretty easy actually.
Just undo basically every Trump policy.
46
u/deepsquatter804 1d ago
Unfortunately, even that won’t be enough. If the war stopped today and the strait of Hormuz opened immediately, oil production wouldn’t return to prewar levels. Iran bombed processing facilities and those could take a long time to repair.
Trump’s war has caused long term damage.24

Which part of a Democratic platform should be to educate the American public of what happen, who caused it, why it will not be a instant or return to what happened before, and develop a strategy to do as much relief as they can by clawing back at the military and DHS budgets.
12
u/TwoStubborn 1d ago
Pretty words, but how would we educate the American public? The ones who desperately need remedial education are also the most likely to get all their “ information” from right wing media.

Things will go down somewhat, just never to where they were. Although I bet a federal fund opening grocery stores like Mamdani is doing in NYC would make a dent in that.

You're right, so we need to also restore buying power. That means requiring corporations to profit share with their employees to some specific percentage of profits or executive compensation.
This will make corporations poorer and common people wealthier. Most things are more expensive now because we're competing with entities who have millions of times the money we do. We need to shrink that gap.
4
u/Pretty-Key6133 1d ago
All utilities including gasoline and healthcare need to be nationalized as well.
Food production too.
Or if you want to go the liberal route we need a state run competitor to keep prices down through competition.

Like getting rid that stupid Big Beautiful Bill that cut taxes to the rich. If we could get taxes back on the rich, that could generate some money. How about getting rid of ICE funding, too, and some of these enormous military contracts that the Trump sons are involved in?
How about taking back assets of all the Congressional thieves who are openly corrupt? And taking the assets off of the ultra wealthy corporations and individuals who are claiming record levels of profit while at the same time laying off thousands of people and not paying the remaining ones enough to live on?
I think if a corporation has employees who are relying on social safety net programs, those employees are not getting paid enough. So either pay them enough, or pay directly into to those programs that would help them, in other words, pay more taxes.
If there are billionaires who continue to make record amounts of money while so many people are struggling to make ends meet, something is wrong. Do these ultra rich really need that much money? What do they do with it? Why do they need 12 yachts and 15 mansions when 2 or 3 will do?

They'll know that no matter how good any president we elect may be, we're just one election away from going back to crazytown.

u/Shadowchaos1010 1d ago
Addressing the money in politics and holding the likes of Elon Musk and Zuckerberg accountable for how their platforms are being weaponized by foreign governments to influence elections might help.
Trump was not natural. I'm not even saying "he stole it" or anything.
I'm talking about the blatant corruption of the richest man in the planet spending hundreds of millions to get him elected and foreigners flooding American social media with garbage to deepen divides and influence public opinion.
That's why Trump won. The first time, wasn't Russian interference straight up confirmed in 2016? And now Russian bot farms are blowing up and pro-Trumpism is dipping across the internet?
Fixing the purposefully fucked education system will genuinely be a generational endeavor, but "Stop the foreign misinformation, social media platforms" should be able to be done a lot more quickly. It's the lack of effort to do that which contributes to a lot of the mistrust.
At least, it should be. I don't have faith for the average foreigner to understand that big money in politics is so pervasive that getting rid of it might be the very check against another Trump. They'll just say "America bad."

Well, "America bad" because Trump shows two things:
There is a considerable amount of people that would vote for Trump a third time, because they are a cult and shit on decency, constitution, law, as long as somebody offers them a scapegoat.
The systems in the USA are shit if a single person can act like Trump, basically killing separation of powers and checks and balances with a hand wave. Its too much power on a single person with the only thing that reigns him in is the idea that he will act like a gentleman.

Mm.. before Reagan the rich paid near 75% tax over certain wealth, down from 90 some odf % after ww2. It got dropped to about 28% during Reagan's 2 terms. And a few percent every republican term since, the notorious "Trickle down effect" that never happened. Bring it back up to 75% atleast. Would solve alot of problems paying education and free healthcare. Will the rich leave? Some? Sure but many will stay and operate in the US still. Moving a buisness out of a country is not easy nor cheap and will cause losses for few years.

Lowering grocery and gasoline prices in the United States requires increasing competition, reducing production and transportation costs, and improving domestic supply. Grocery prices could be reduced by supporting American farmers, lowering tariffs on essential goods, improving supply chains, and preventing excessive market concentration. Gas prices could be lowered by increasing oil production, improving refinery capacity, reducing transportation bottlenecks, and reviewing fuel taxes. Investing in renewable energy and fuel-efficient transportation could also reduce long-term dependence on gasoline. While the president and Congress can influence these costs through economic policies, global markets and private businesses ultimately play significant roles in determining prices. The goal should be to make everyday necessities more affordable through greater competition, efficient production, reliable energy supplies, and policies that reduce costs for American families.
21
u/Emillllllllllllion 17h ago
For gasoline, you could also reduce the demand by making the economy less car reliant by encouraging remote work, improving public transportation and building less car centric infrastructure, but that's more of a long-term solution alongside encouraging ev use.

I pity the poor farmers who got caught in a catch-22. Trump started a tariff/trade war will countries they sell their crops to, so now they have all these crops they can't get rid of. Normally, with an excess of product, the prices would drop. But farming doesnt work like that; its not a factory where you can control production...the crops were planted in anticipation of a market the govt took away. Now they actually have to raise the price to break even, knowing they aren't going to selling all...but they'd vote for the guy who caused it again
12
u/Good-Trouble6869 12h ago
F**k every single farmer!! They almost lost everything in Trumps first term because of his tariffs, until we bailed them out. So what do they do? They vote for him twice more!!! Stop the war.
Stop the tariffs.
That undoes a good chunk of the economic damage Trump has done in the past couple years.
Then we can work on actually making improvements. Get corporate influence out of DC. Tax the wealthy at a VERY HIGH percentage. Tax the churches like for profit charities. Overhaul the tax system so they tell you what you are supposed to pay or what your refund is, no work for you unless you dispute it. Then focus IRS agency efforts on tax enforcement and fraud of the richest and work your way down.
Medicaid for all. Mandatory retirement age for all, including and especially politicians and judges. Social Security for all. Then lets work on universal basic income and housing for all. There should not be any homeless, either you are provided mental medical help you need in a clinic or are provided temporary housing. We can use those for profit prisons, as we will be no longer using those. Decriminalize so many things, mostly drug use. Hard core drug trafficking still a crime but personal use is community service or drug treatment or both.
So many good things could happen in America if we got rid of conservatives.

End the war in Iran, and get Russia to leave Ukraine.
End the tariffs.
This will have an immediate effect of lowering gas prices, which will lower grocery prices and other prices as well.
6
u/yusill 1d ago
Step 1 might be doable after Iran takes the US to the ICC for money to pay for all the civilian damage we did without cause.
Step 2 is fantasy land they have been attacking the Ukraine for about 15 years now and have no desire to stop and we have no means to make them.
Step 3 is fine and dandy and in about 12 years after you repair the long term distrust that has set in for how quickly and wildly our govt can swing and the lack of meanful checks and balances with our 2 party system. After setting up iron clad assurances and change the basic structure of how our govt handles treaties and give them such great deals that they would be insane not to trade with us maybe we can re enter the world stage hat in hand.
The damage is beyond oil. It's a basic distrust for our govt structure if 1 person can cancel a treaty someone else signed. No one wants to go back to square one every time someone else moves into the white house. That causes disruption. And they have all reset new supply lines and deals. Trump has single handedly removed the US as a global trading power. We are now the asshole who tries to change the deal after it's been agreed and no one likes that guy.
3
u/danielsangeo 1d ago

Trump literally destroyed 100 years of international trust in just a matter of minutes.

You're going to have to do a lot more than that sadly
The discounts the US got are gone thanks to trumps trade wars and constant stream of threats.
You're going to have to fix so many things in international relations and you'll never get it back to what it was because frankly the trust is gone. US relations are transactional now.
The options the US have are abandon trump and try to make amends
or
Continue along the trumpian path and end up a failed state.
Getting rid of republicans this election cycle isn't enough.
trump will have to be handed over to the ICC at bare minimum for starters.

First off, we stop attacking Iran. Secondly we work with Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz and the Strait of Bab al-Mandab. Shift our focus on Ukraine and not Israel. Thirdly, revoke all of the tariffs except those that actually help support our economy. Fourth, invest in renewable energies to make the US less reliant on foreign energy and economics. Fifth, reduce the amount of military spending redirecting all spending to reflect the new era of war and defense. Sixth, stop subsidies to corporations and industries that are already profitable. Seventh, get rid of ICE, set up new and better border policies to encourage the migrant workers to return to the US. Additionally developed a policy in the payment procedures and policies so farmers cannot take advantage of these people. Eighth, establish the Biden CHIPS act. That’s a start.

u/FaeTheWanderer 7h ago
Ah! So, DSA socialist here, buuuuut maga think we are all communists anyway, so I'll give this a go from the socialist angle!
Ok, step one! End the fucking wars in Iran and Palestine and remove funding for the Iron Dome as well as any weapons for Isreal! Force Netanyahu and his far right government to have to either play nice with their neighbors, or learn to get kicked in the teeth without demanding the American people give up our Medicare and Socila Security to keep funding the middle east's biggest crybully!
Step two! Nationalize the nation's oil supply ensuring that all that fracking and drilling everyone is so keen on doing, despite it harming our beautiful lands, is going into the fuel tanks of the American people and not just being shipped over seas so it can be sold by the same billionaires price gouging us at the pump! As a bonus, that leads us to my next point!
Step 3, baybee!! We pass laws that put a cap on how much you can overcharge the people to buy your products! Price caps! They freaking work, and the only reason inflation is so bad is because the billionaires have spent millions convincing the American people that having laws that prevent them from getting ripped off is somehow bad for them! End that shit and make sure the laws have teeth! If we catch a company trying to price gouge or otherwise rip off ths people, the punishment CANNOT just be a fine! Otherwise that's just the fee you pay to legalize robbing the people! Instead, we go ahead and charge a fee that goes directly into funding the social safety net, but we also impose prison time on the folks controlling the criminal corporation! Toss a few pampered CEOs and boards of investors into federal prison, and watch them suddenly start taking our laws seriously! And as a bonus, they learn what REAL Americans live like, without their sycophantic yes men huffing their farts all day and telling them they smell like lavender, and have never had a bad idea!
Fourth step! We open up local government run grocery stores with gas stations, and we sell that shit at cost, and also employ locals to run the stores, stations, and the warehouses and trucks needed to keep all that going!
BONUS PROBLEM SOLVED!! By warehousing, distributing, and selling our foods and fuel locally, while of course shipping things to areas that can't produce it on their own, obviously, we can eliminate the middlemen, and pay our local farmers and ranchers to grow our foods and veggies, preventing morons like Trump from simply flooding the market with cheap (possibly tainted) beef from Argentina!
That's right! My plan also helps save the local farmers!
Here's the funny part, remember how the MAGAs were hooting and hopping around puffing out their chests like a pack of rabid howler monkeys about using DOGE to destroy USAID?
Yeaaah, my plan there is essentially what USAID did for our partner nations, and really was the backbone holding up all of our agricultural industry! It was the counterweight that kept the factory farms from fully taking over, but yeah, the MAGAs got duped by the billionaires who own those factory farms into voting to give them all the money and power.
See why you should NEVER vote to let billionaires run everything?
Wait, wait, I know, there might be a trans girl who wants to be a cheerleader or something, so we HAVE to vote in the guys who have been robbing us blind for generations! Flock and Palantir are toootally gonna keep us safe from (checks notes) that scary immigrant who came to the country with the dastardly plan to. . . Trim the grass and maintain our lovely flower beds! Criminal scum!!
Aaah, anyway, I'll be over here trying to fix the democratic party and hopefully push all the centrist corporatists like Schumer, Jeffries, Pelosi, Letterman, and any leftover Clintonites out, and we can come back after the midterms and see how the republicans are enjoying being owned by Elon Musk, a South African who broke our immigration laws, Peter Theil, an open gay man who works with Sam Altman, a clearly closeted gay man who works with Theil to make AI that will take away the last of the jobs they couldn't outsource to sweat shops overseas!
It'd be cool to have help from populists to bring populism to the democratic party, but I get it! Conservatives are too scared to help us stick it to the billionaires by voting against the billionaire backed candidates because their millionaire lapdogs on TV told them to fear the same people the establishment of both parties fear! Its cool! Its cool! Bravery is scary and defending freedom from your own political party is hard work!

It's not even a gotcha, I can list about 20 different things for this bitch right of the top of my head. Of course she wouldn't understand any of them so why the fuck bother?

Who has time to ask Democrats? We're too busy asking Republicans, who are in power and should have already done so about it. But they have no answers so we have to keep asking. We'll ask the Dems when they take over.
4
u/Big_Interest7333 1d ago
You’ll have to ask Democrats because Republicans have tried nothing and are out of ideas.

Those people are arguing for the government to control the economy.
Do they know what that is most commonly known as (in political theory)?
they couldn't think in a straight line if you bound and shackled them and dragged them down that line.

In a sense you’re right. How do you fix the 40 yr concerted effort by republicans to transfer all the wealth to the 1%? It might be too far gone at this point.
4
u/Amazing_Entrance_888 1d ago
Not a Dem but smart enough to admit it’s a complex issue. No one is as stupid as Trump who went around saying prices would be lower on day one even though he had no plan to make that happen. And instead implemented illegal tariffs that the American public paid AND started a war that had global effects on the cost of everything. Yet his followers give him a pass while blaming democrats. Moronic.
4
u/Grundlestorm 1d ago
Yeah, explaining actual policy changes requires actually stopping to discuss at length.
Actual plans for complex problems can't be explained in an offhand, single sentence empty catch phrase while you just keep on doing what you're doing.

Stop Trump's idiotic aimless war(s), for one. Gee, that was simple. Or am I dead in my tracks and don't know it?
Stop Trump's idiotic tariffs and get back to actually trading amicably with our neighbors near and far. Oop. I did it again.
Stop Trump from manipulating the market and skimming billions from governmental programs into his own personal wallet. Whoops. Dead. Tracks.

Taxing the rich , forcing us oil producers to sell domestically for capped rates, instead of selling to South America at market price. Making churches that recievw 200k+ annually no longer completely tax exempt, getting rid of tariffs. Just off the top of my head.... im not even a dem. Just a humanitarian.

Stop attacking Iran, open the straight. Get the Houthi's to agree to stop their blockade.
Quit ilegally tarriffing and/or trade-warring with our allies that we buy food from
That should cover most of it.

Housing prices. Dems figured it out. Biden specifically. Covid. Build back better again Biden. The debt? With what Trump put in the credit card his first term and what he’s charging up this time it’s not going to be easy. But history proves republicans screw it up and the Dems improve it. But often not fast enough for stupid people. Let’s say at this point in time Maga’s. These people the 36% are the stupidest of the stupidest of the stupidest. Last the only reason they even have a chance the republicans is because of the money they are spending not to help but to keep you stupid.

This is actually a really easy fix.
Get out of the Middle East. Let them fight their own wars.
Then force the U.S. oil companies to sell a certain percentage of their exported fuel at wholesale price back to the U.S. in exchange for continuing the tax incentives they already get. Otherwise you get rid of their tax incentives.
This shits really not all that complicated.
We produce more fuel and diesel than we use per day. It’s just that we export a huge portion of it. The oil companies get mega deals from the U.S. government and the U.S. population gets nearly nothing in exchange. The U.S. taxpayers subsidize oil companies and then pay higher prices at the pump. Stop subsidizing those companies if the taxpayers get nothing for it.
Oh, but that’s not capitalism. Guess we can’t do that and we should just continue letting citizens of this country get gouged for the betterment of billionaires.

u/bloodmagik 1d ago
Not tariffing the global economy, (including what can’t be produced domestically), as well as avoiding wars of choice and funding Israel would be a fine damn start.

u/YogurtClosetThinnest 23h ago
End the war in Iran.
End dumbass tariffs.
Invest in alternative energy.
Invest in public transport.
State run grocery stores.

Psssttt for all of Kamala’s flaws she did say she would go after corporate price gouging on food items and MAGA said that was communism lol

3
u/Proper-Salamander-84 15h ago
How about let’s focus on the issue, democrats are not in power and have not been for some time. MAGA owns the risen cost(s) in all sectors. Why should democrats continue to balance the budget for the GOP?

u/Covfefe45killls 15h ago
Aside from stopping the Iran war and apologizing for starting it, we could invest in a green economy with solar panels on roofs and more electric cars (not Teslas).

Stopping the war, rolling back the Billionaire tax cuts, Unwinding the DOGE idiotic layoffs where we’re still paying people who aren’t working, eliminating the stupid Tariffs (which are 100% funded by consumers), Stop the construction projects where we’re paying to build Trump monuments- I think that’s a pretty good start!!

u/ConfidentDatabase157 8h ago
EVERYONE is wrong with grocery prices. No matter the suggestions proposed here, once prices rise, they will NEVER be reduced. NEVER. Shrinkflation maybe. Instead of 16 oz. For $1, it will be 14 oz. Never have food prices, or most other consumer goods dropped in price. Anyone show me an example of when it did. Between inflation and greed, it won't happen PERIOD

u/danimagoo 5h ago
That’s not always true. Egg prices are lower today than they were in early 2025. It just depends on the specific product and what caused the price to go up. But for prices overall, that’s correct. Lower inflation doesn’t mean lower prices.

Change tax law so that unearned income (investment return, etc) is taxed at higher rates than earned income, with the sole exception of retirement accounts (with limits on yearly contributions obviously).
Then change the law so that all compensation must be 95% paycheck, and maximum 5% stock options, for all positions, including CEOs, etc.
Then change the tax brackets to be more inline with how they were between 1945 and Raegan.
Close tax loopholes for unnecessary expenses like golf trips, fancy meals, etc. you can write off worker pay, benefits, and necessary costs.
Now all the sudden the “path of least resistance” is paying the average worker way more, and the average CEO way less.

Stop the war, lower tariffs, try talking to our old allies about reinstating our old trade agreements
Here: How will we lower them by raising tariffs
2
u/SignoreBanana 1d ago
Well, definitely harder now that Trump fucked the pooch so hard, but restoring our trade agreements to pre-Trump and trying to make a deal with Iran would be a good start. Also, stop sending so much money to Israel.
