General Question ❔ amazon sent me a kindle

Post image
528 Upvotes

okay so i recently contacted amazon support for my kindle and i eventually got it fixed... they sent me another free of charge but why'd they ship it like this? 😭😭 is it to prevent reselling as brand new? what should i do with it..???

edit: i seem to have upset some people with my sobbing faces, theyre not expressing sadness because i didnt get the consumer experience, i just enjoy opening the original kindle box and the way they sent it was with a lot of unnecessary extra packaging so i felt like it was kind of a waste, the box was more than 50x the size of the device, not to mention they shipped it in TWO boxes.

edit 2: and to everyone saying that selling it is selfish, im a poor student with a tuition to pay, if i could afford to give away stuff that i could make money on i wouldn't be applying for financial aid and selling my pokemon cards, thanks 🙃

My Kindle 📱 My favourite way of night reading 📖

I recently bought this little lamp for night reading and it’s been a game changer when it comes to reading at night. It’s so much easier on the eyes and allows me to set the brightness on my Kindle at low level. It’s super flexible, has three different warmths and brightness is adjustable. I love it.

Just really excited to read easier, as I am disabled, and holding books open has just become too hard for me. I am really happy with the weight, and dimensions of my Ube basic!

Purple was an easy choice for me! I got some fun stickers, because why not!? I already had an extra pop socket I had from a clearance bin, and then I got a cat lanyard holder on Amazon, a carrying case, and clear tpu back case.

So far I have read more in a day, then I have been able to in many years.

Wanting to say thank you to this community for showing me the way, and encouraging me to try it!

My gray cat girl says “Yes finally I can lay on you while you read mama!” She approves!

My Kindle 📱 No Warm Light, No Problem

Post image

So I’m currently rocking a 2018 paperwhite and I still absolutely love him. (His name is Sir Reads-a-lot btw). But ever since I’ve owned Sir Reads-a-lot, I’ve found his front light to be too bright when I read at night, and too blue when I turn the brightness down. There is no middle ground - so I’ve just been reading with the light on in my room until I’m ready for bed. That was until I got some orange tinted blue light blockers. The glasses make the screen brightness so much more manageable that I no longer need to keep the light on in my room. I can read in the dark without my eyes being assaulted with the brightness or blueness of my kindle screen. It’s wonderful and I’d thought I would share for anyone who would be interested.

Unless you brutally torture it, an E-ink device should easily serve you for ten-plus years. Is anyone else out there still holding out with something even older?

If you’re an Oasis fanatic or have wanted to purchase one, it’s currently on Amazon.

Graphite - 8GB - $115
Graphite - 32GB - $145
Champagne Gold - 32GB - $144

About two years ago someone posted on this sub about Amazon having it in stock for US residents and I snatched one up ($175, 8GB, so this deal is already better!). It’s an incredible device, easily my favorite Kindle device.

Found this news in the e-reader subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/ereader/s/kU8iudTgQ2

Could be an interesting info for the ones hesitating to switch to color kindles because they perfer to wait for a screen update (even if I think it will require a lot of patience to see this new screen on a kindle).

After back and forth on getting the new colorsoft or PW. I chose to get the new paperwhite and keep my comics and graphic novels delegated to my iPad or a cheap tablet later on. And have my kindle solely for my books and novels.
Yes I have the 2024 basic and I love it.
Yes I have the last model PW and I love it as well.
But I’m dying for the new page turn case
I’m happy I didn’t return my paperwhite 16gb for the signature in the summer and waited.
Am I the only one who buys books and more books while still having a huge TBR. I rarely get on my PlayStation anymore and I try to read as much as I possibly can.
Anyways.
I’m the first to admit that the fomo got me this time but oh whale.
Happy reading🤗

My Kindle 📱 Finally have a kindle of my own!

Just got my new Colorsoft (2024) and pretty happy with how decorating it turned out. I made the background myself on Canva and added an adorable popsocket. I think it’s such a cute little personal touch.

I’ve only ever really read on my iPad Mini, and I love it, even though the screen is backlit. I’ve always enjoyed reading on it, but it’s just a little heavy for long sessions. So when I saw the Amazon sale the other week and the Kindle Colorsoft was such a good deal, I decided it was finally time to give a different e-reader a try. I’m excited to see how I like the experience and try something a little different. What do you think?

Discussion 💬 Kindle basic 2026 differences in screen clarity and warmth

These are my own observations. I have seen multiple models of each of the 2026 basic in ube and graphite as well as an Alpine sky basic. All the models I saw were ordered individually on different days. I don’t have photos - don’t have all the kindles with me. Also, it’s difficult to capture the differences on photos.

Lighting:
Consistently, the ube has the warmest screen of them all. To me, it’s very pleasant and does not have a “blue” or “pink” tinge as you increase the lighting. It’s almost more grey like my 2024 basic, like a warmer paper color.

The alpine sky lighting leaned more blue. The two graphite models I had differed. One was more blue. The other one was noticeably pink. Both were cooler than the ube. None of these kindles were as blue as the matcha kindle screen.

My 2024 kindle basic with the recessed screen had a really nice color that was very grey without a pink or blue tinge. The ube models are warmer but still pleasant like paper. The other models are more cool with a blue or pink tinge.

Clarity/contrast:
This is the biggest reason I made this post. I noticed that both graphite kindles had significantly blurrier screens with lower contrast. This was a huge difference for me. Letters definitely looked blurrier than on the ube and alpine sky models. Almost like a foggy, slightly out-of-focus screen.

The ube and alpine sky both looked sharp with good contrast. Both ube models were like this. I have good vision, and I actually think the sharpness on the ube models is similar to the 2024 basic that has a recessed screen.

Weight:
The alpine sky aluminum kindle feels noticeably heavier than the plastic models. I didn’t expect to care about this, but I ended up favoring the ube because of the weight. The aluminum back also feels slightly more slippery, like the back of an iPhone.

I’ve been seeing different reports about screen clarity and warmth. Based on my observations, there seem to be consistent differences between the models just like how the previous generation matcha kindles were way bluer than the black ones. In particular, the ube kindles have the warmest screens with the best clarity. The aluminum basic also had good screen clarity but was heavier with a cooler screen. The graphite kindles look noticeably blurrier.

Purchase Question 🛒 Paperwhite 2024 or the New one?

If it was you, which one would you buy?
I’m thinking about buying the 2024 version bc I always hear about new models giving problems or am I reading too much, just want to make the right decision. So all the advice is needed since it will be my first kindle.

My Kindle 📱 Kindle Voyage still my goto

I have picked up a good number of kindles since the Voyage (all paperwhite generations) and a few kindle basics as well.

I can't figure out why, the text clarity and perceived resolution on Voyage is unbeaten. May be the paperwhite 12th gen comes close, but it doesn't beat the voyage and the paperwhite is a bit too heavy and large.

I picked up the 2026 graphite Kindle basic as well and the text clarity is night-and-day better on the Voyage.

I don't know why Amazon is sitting on the Carta 1300 6" screen. Makes me curious about the Clara BW.

Purchase Question 🛒 In doubt between new Kindle PW signature or CS signature

So I'm decided I'm gonna be treating myself to a new Kindle. Mine still works fine, but I really want the clicker and button cover so I've decided to upgrade. But I'm not sure if I should get the Paperwhite Signature Edition or the Colorsoft Signature Edition. I freaking LOVE the fig color. I don't read graphic novels whatsoever but I love it when I see the pictures of the colorsoft models showing everything in color. I have the money for either so that's not really the issue, it's more of a 'do I really NEED the colorsoft' or will I be just as happy with the paperwhite. I did read some things about the colorsoft screen being somewhat different? Not sure what people meant by it, but would love some help with this!

Discussion 💬 Always talk to a representative

Last night I finished reading a book and wanted to delete it from my device. This was a book I bought. Most of my ebooks are ones I’ve sent to my Kindle, so I was a little confused when I accidentally selected PERMANENTLY DELETE. This morning I called Amazon to see if they could recover the ebook for me. I selected to do the chat to save time. I chatted twice and both times it told me I needed to repurchase the ebook. I wasn’t happy with that because it just seemed unfair since I did buy the book. So I tried a 3rd time but this time talked to a representative. He restored my ebook! I am now happy. Probably won’t read it again, but I wanted it to keep😁

Modding 🪛 A love letter for Koreader

I tried so many times to get into KOReader because, on paper, I should have absolutely loved it. I love modding my devices, personalizing them, and having all the good features I like.

But... tbh, I was superficial. I let the rather bad looks deceive me. I judged a book by its cover. Literally. I never fell in love. Until now.

I love how the community has made it so satisfying to mod, with all the plugins and patches. Huge thanks to the developers and everyone contributing to the project, because it was already amazing before but now is amazing FOR ME.

I finally got rid of the extra-complicated menu that I honestly don't want on my way all the time while reading, and can edit my fonts from a single menu page. I'm spoiled, I know lol. There's X-Ray! And you can customize your library! And you can sync all your e-readers, including my Oasis, my Kobo Clara color, and even the X4 with Crosspoint. I know you could do that before, but the UI was too ugly for me. I'm sorry. 😔 Apparently, I'm a terrible person and a UI snob.

Now I feel like I have the beautiful look and library organization of Kobo Nickel, plus most of Kindle's most interesting features, and underneath it all, the awesome power machine that is KOReader.

So yeah, apparently all KOReader needed was for it to stop being ugly and for me to give it a(nother) chance. Better late than never, I guess.

Really thank you to everyone that put their time on this amazing project from the beginning, and to everyone that finally made it enjoyable for me.
