General Question ❔ amazon sent me a kindle

Post image
466 Upvotes

okay so i recently contacted amazon support for my kindle and i eventually got it fixed... they sent me another free of charge but why'd they ship it like this? 😭😭 is it to prevent reselling as brand new? what should i do with it..???

edit: i seem to have upset some people with my sobbing faces, theyre not expressing sadness because i didnt get the consumer experience, i just enjoy opening the original kindle box and the way they sent it was with a lot of unnecessary extra packaging so i felt like it was kind of a waste, the box was more than 50x the size of the device, not to mention they shipped it in TWO boxes.

edit 2: and to everyone saying that selling it is selfish, im a poor student with a tuition to pay, if i could afford to give away stuff that i could make money on i wouldn't be applying for financial aid and selling my pokemon cards, thanks 🙃

My Kindle 📱 My first ever Kindle! + bonus cutie!

Just really excited to read easier, as I am disabled, and holding books open has just become too hard for me. I am really happy with the weight, and dimensions of my Ube basic!

Purple was an easy choice for me! I got some fun stickers, because why not!? I already had an extra pop socket I had from a clearance bin, and then I got a cat lanyard holder on Amazon, a carrying case, and clear tpu back case.

So far I have read more in a day, then I have been able to in many years.

Wanting to say thank you to this community for showing me the way, and encouraging me to try it!

My gray cat girl says “Yes finally I can lay on you while you read mama!” She approves!

My Kindle 📱 My favourite way of night reading 📖

I recently bought this little lamp for night reading and it’s been a game changer when it comes to reading at night. It’s so much easier on the eyes and allows me to set the brightness on my Kindle at low level. It’s super flexible, has three different warmths and brightness is adjustable. I love it.

My Kindle 📱 Finally have a kindle of my own!

Just got my new Colorsoft (2024) and pretty happy with how decorating it turned out. I made the background myself on Canva and added an adorable popsocket. I think it’s such a cute little personal touch.

I’ve only ever really read on my iPad Mini, and I love it, even though the screen is backlit. I’ve always enjoyed reading on it, but it’s just a little heavy for long sessions. So when I saw the Amazon sale the other week and the Kindle Colorsoft was such a good deal, I decided it was finally time to give a different e-reader a try. I’m excited to see how I like the experience and try something a little different. What do you think?

Unless you brutally torture it, an E-ink device should easily serve you for ten-plus years. Is anyone else out there still holding out with something even older?

My Kindle 📱 No Warm Light, No Problem

Post image

So I’m currently rocking a 2018 paperwhite and I still absolutely love him. (His name is Sir Reads-a-lot btw). But ever since I’ve owned Sir Reads-a-lot, I’ve found his front light to be too bright when I read at night, and too blue when I turn the brightness down. There is no middle ground - so I’ve just been reading with the light on in my room until I’m ready for bed. That was until I got some orange tinted blue light blockers. The glasses make the screen brightness so much more manageable that I no longer need to keep the light on in my room. I can read in the dark without my eyes being assaulted with the brightness or blueness of my kindle screen. It’s wonderful and I’d thought I would share for anyone who would be interested.

Discussion 💬 Old base vs new base Kindle Screen comparison

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some pictures to people on the fence about acquiring new base model.

I just compared my old base Kindle with a new one, I didn’t expect black to be “blackier” on last gen kindle. I knew that there is some air between flush layer and eInk display but I didn’t expected that fuzziness.

I set background light to 0 on both models!

If you’re an Oasis fanatic or have wanted to purchase one, it’s currently on Amazon.

Graphite - 8GB - $115
Graphite - 32GB - $145
Champagne Gold - 32GB - $144

About two years ago someone posted on this sub about Amazon having it in stock for US residents and I snatched one up ($175, 8GB, so this deal is already better!). It’s an incredible device, easily my favorite Kindle device.

General Question ❔ Kindle epub downloads

• Upvotes

So I have a bunch of epub and pdf files of books that I downloaded onto kindle to read, but realized I never saved anywhere else. I've been trying to find a way to redownload them onto my device from kindle itself but it doesn't seem to let me?? Does anyone know how I can redownload my own files?

Discussion 💬 Why did Amazon make Goodreads so bad on kindles?

does anyone remember being able to actually use goodreads on your kindle? you would be able to navigate and look for books there as you can on the app. see friend updates and their reviews etc. not anymore though. I hate this so much because having goodreads has been a selling point for me. I just feel like they ruin half of the good things they give us. For example having 3G on your device anywhere you go,(this was amazing I was able to down load books even in rural Mexico in 2010!) actual buttons, text to audio with speaker etc etc..

anyway my main gripe is goodreads and how unusable they have made it.. it’s just redundant and bare minimum now. and pls don’t say you can just use the website or the app because I’m trying to NOT use my phone, tablet or computer that is the whole point of an ereader. Why would they buy goodreads and integrate it to their product to just ruin the experience?

Discussion 💬 Basic in New Zealand and Australia comes with a cable

The Basic finally got released locally in NZ so I thought I would snatch one up.

I noticed some people posting pictures of their basic saying it doesn't come with a cable, Happy to report in New Zealand (and probably Australia) it does come with a cable! I'm guessing only US bought kindles no longer come with one which is kinda annoying.

General Question ❔ kindle light bleeding from older to newer gen models

hii! so i’ve seen a lot of people posting about the light bleeding on their kindles. it’s probably not really a big deal but i want to know if kindle is worth spending money on.

i noticed how light bleeding is common on colorsoft and the new kindle basic but rare on the paperwhite, but there are a few cases. my bf and i plan on getting the paperwhite 2024 SE since most e-readers recommended the paperwhite and we also did our research about it. i noticed how the light bleeding on paperwhite only shows when the brightness is too high in dark mode, but there are some who says they don’t use the brightness up to 100% (in dark mode) and it still shows.

also people are saying that its pretty normal to have a little bit of light bleeding. does it really depend on the brightness? bc ofc as someone with astigmatism, the light bleeding can hurt my eye 🥹 it might not burn like the lights we use but my eyes really gets stressed when something is bright 🥹

can someone share their thoughts on this?

EDIT: some light bleeding are also on specific areas like the corners of the kindle, while others are visible on the borders of their screen.

Found this news in the e-reader subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/ereader/s/kU8iudTgQ2

Could be an interesting info for the ones hesitating to switch to color kindles because they perfer to wait for a screen update (even if I think it will require a lot of patience to see this new screen on a kindle).

Discussion 💬 Did I pick a bad time?

Post image
178 Upvotes

I just bought my first Kindle and just started getting back into reading. It’s the 2024 Kindle Basic. I didn’t want the Paper-white because I like the size of the smaller one. And of course, I find out there are new editions coming out in a couple of weeks. Do y’all think the 2026 version is worth getting over the 2024? Or just stick with it?

Side note, I love this thing. As someone who never really read before this has done wonders!

EDIT: I didn’t realize the 2026 basic was already out. BUT my question still stands. Did I make a mistake not buying the 2026? Or is there not really any crazy difference?

My Kindle 📱 Kindle Voyage still my goto

I have picked up a good number of kindles since the Voyage (all paperwhite generations) and a few kindle basics as well.

I can't figure out why, the text clarity and perceived resolution on Voyage is unbeaten. May be the paperwhite 12th gen comes close, but it doesn't beat the voyage and the paperwhite is a bit too heavy and large.

I picked up the 2026 graphite Kindle basic as well and the text clarity is night-and-day better on the Voyage.

I don't know why Amazon is sitting on the Carta 1300 6" screen. Makes me curious about the Clara BW.

Purchase Question 🛒 2 year protection plan

Is it worth it? About to buy my first kindle, not pre ordering the new one, just getting the 2024 12th gen, but I’m not sure if I should buy it or not, generally I never buy those extra warranties, but for some reason I’m afraid with the kindle.
