Discussion 💬 The screen on my new Ube is SO dark and has yellow borders 😑

I have a matcha and a 12 gen PW. I just tried the ube and the screen is incredibly dark. It's almost as dark as the Colorsoft I had at one point. I seriously have to always have the brightness at level 8 at least, to match it to my matcha with the screen off. There are also yellow borders around the entire screen. Much like the yellow bar situation.

Pic: The yellowing doesn't really translate and the lighting doesn't do the darkness of the Ube justice. Trust me, it is quite a bit darker.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm definitely returning mine.

Discussion 💬 Avoiding blacklisted kindles

Want to start a discussion of avoiding blacklisted kindles on the used/refurb market that are not Amazon. I’ve read ask the seller if it’s registerable. Get a pic of device info and check the serial with Amazon. I read If the serial in device info has trailing zeros it’s blacklisted. How to avoid JB and modded units. I’m wanting to get 10 and 11th gen signature editions. Wanting to get 5 of them and it’s just too much of a price difference to get them refurbished as compared to new. What other things are there to do?

Discussion 💬 Pricing on kindle models

Is anyone else confused as to why the new models are the same price as the 2024 models? It seems like the new releases are really only an upgrade as far as aesthetics go and that the older models are just as good if not better in other ways. Is Amazon capitalizing on this?

Edit to clarify:

I understand that a new model would be at a higher price point. What I don't understand is why the 2024 model hasn't been discounted since the release of the newer ones.

Discussion 💬 Always talk to a representative

Last night I finished reading a book and wanted to delete it from my device. This was a book I bought. Most of my ebooks are ones I’ve sent to my Kindle, so I was a little confused when I accidentally selected PERMANENTLY DELETE. This morning I called Amazon to see if they could recover the ebook for me. I selected to do the chat to save time. I chatted twice and both times it told me I needed to repurchase the ebook. I wasn’t happy with that because it just seemed unfair since I did buy the book. So I tried a 3rd time but this time talked to a representative. He restored my ebook! I am now happy. Probably won’t read it again, but I wanted it to keep😁

Discussion 💬 Aren't clear cases slippery in hand for Kindle?

I recently bought a transparent TPU case for my Kindle ereader, but it lacks grip and feels slippery. Are grips like a PopSocket or hand strap essential for clear cases, because I'd rather avoid using both?

Tech Support 🛠 Footnote return navigation no longer works

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently updated my Kindle Paperwhite (12th generation) to firmware version 5.20.1 (4893900050) to get support for Kindle Click.

After updating, I noticed that the feature that allows me to return to the main text after opening a footnote at the end of the book no longer works. Previously, a bar appeared at the bottom of the screen, allowing me to easily navigate back to where I left off (see screenshot).

I checked the Amazon forums and found posts suggesting that this issue has been around for more than six months.

I've seen similar reports here and elsewhere, but they received very few replies or reactions. I'd like to find out whether this is an issue affecting specific devices or a more widespread bug in recent Kindle firmware versions.

If you own a Kindle Paperwhite (12th generation), have you experienced the same issue? If so, which firmware version are you running? I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have noticed this feature disappear after a firmware update.

Purchase Question 🛒 Can we trade in Kindles bought refurbished?

Post image

Anyone else not have their current Kindle show up on the list of items to trade in?

I have a Like New Amazon Kindle Matcha I bought, sold by Amazon. It's clearly a registered device because it's linked to my Amazon account. But why doesn't it show up on my list of Kindles to trade in for 20% off? I just see my PW and some Fire I haven't had in 5 years. Is there a way to add my other Kindle?

(Not sure I'll even trade it in, but I just wish it was an option!)

Tech Support 🛠 Help! I lost all my content.

Please forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum. I had a large collection of purchased books on the phone app. I don't currently own a kindle. I had to do a reset of my phone and I lost all the books and audiobooks I had. When I signed into the app, it showed nothing. I had them on Oct 9. Then gone! What do I do and how? I miss reading those books!

Discussion 💬 Why did Amazon make Goodreads so bad on kindles?

does anyone remember being able to actually use goodreads on your kindle? you would be able to navigate and look for books there as you can on the app. see friend updates and their reviews etc. not anymore though. I hate this so much because having goodreads has been a selling point for me. I just feel like they ruin half of the good things they give us. For example having 3G on your device anywhere you go,(this was amazing I was able to down load books even in rural Mexico in 2010!) actual buttons, text to audio with speaker etc etc..

anyway my main gripe is goodreads and how unusable they have made it.. it’s just redundant and bare minimum now. and pls don’t say you can just use the website or the app because I’m trying to NOT use my phone, tablet or computer that is the whole point of an ereader. Why would they buy goodreads and integrate it to their product to just ruin the experience?

Tech Support 🛠 Am I crazy, or is it darker towards the bottom?

Finally bought my first kindle, ended up getting the 2024 colorsoft… Wanted to read at night and turned the warm light up but it seems like there is darkening towards the bottom of the screen. Hard to photograph but I did my best. If you look at the very top compared to the very bottom, they seem like different shades? Is this normal? Or am I seeing things?

Purchase Question 🛒 Buying my first kindle

Hi, I’m looking at buying my first kindle very soon 🎉 I’ve currently been using my iPad with kindle app but the weight is killing me 😂 I know I’ll be going for the paperwhite model, I’m just unsure if I should hold out for the new one coming in November? I use a Bluetooth clicker on my iPad so the idea of being able to use the official Amazon one with the new one seems great and there’s only about £45 difference in price. I’m currently planning to hold out until around the Black Friday deals to see if the 2024 goes on sale (highly doubting the brand new one will) and also gives me a chance to look at reviews for the new one, but I’m finding it quite hard to actually see much difference between the 2024 and new 2026, I’m also looking at the new signature paperwhite but that’s mainly just for the colour of it 😂

Purchase Question 🛒 Comparing 2024 v 2026 Paperwhite SE

My wife has a 2024 Paperwhite SE that I’ve been wanting for a while, and thought I would jump on the newest one coming out, but I’m a little confused if it’s really an upgrade.

The Paperwhite SE is the only model to gain weight from the previous year (likely due to the metal body), even though it’s 1mm thinner. It also loses wireless charging for the pogo pins, and the website has no mention of a better screen or faster page turns. I don’t like to use cases, and so the clicky case doesn’t stick out to me. Am I missing a major feature upgrade? So far it seems like the 2024 may be the best model for me.

I imagine that by black friday many of the 2024 SE models will be on sale at different stores, so I’m thinking the best option is to wait and get the 2024 at a discount.

Purchase Question 🛒 Getting a different book than the one bought?

Last night I was browsing through the kindle store for some Stephen King books. Pet Sematary was at the top of the bestselling list and, when I tapped it, everything seemed ok. Over 20k reviews, it was linked directly to Stephen King etc. and best part was it was 1€. So of course I bought it.

Then I went to my library and a random “TikTok made me buy it” thriller book was being downloaded. I checked my bank account and 1€ had been indeed spent on Amazon. Weird.

I went back to Pet Sematary’s page and pressed buy again. 1€ was again spent from my bank account, but this time the actual Stephen King book was added to my library.

I’ll try getting a refund for the first book. Even though it was only 1€, it creeps me out lmao.

Anyone had this happen?

Is this how TikTok books get their “best selling” status? Lmao

Purchase Question 🛒 Kindle basic vs paperwhite

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I have a question for people more versed in this than me.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite from 2020 or 2022. I didn't think much about it, I saw a huge discount, wanted a Kindle and just got it.

I'm stil very happy about it, but I wanted to buy one for a gift and realized Amazon is selling newer versions only and that the price between basic and paperwhite is significantly different.

What's really the difference? Is it worth to buy Paperwhite over basic?

My Kindle 📱 Kindle Voyage still my goto

I have picked up a good number of kindles since the Voyage (all paperwhite generations) and a few kindle basics as well.

I can't figure out why, the text clarity and perceived resolution on Voyage is unbeaten. May be the paperwhite 12th gen comes close, but it doesn't beat the voyage and the paperwhite is a bit too heavy and large.

I picked up the 2026 graphite Kindle basic as well and the text clarity is night-and-day better on the Voyage.

I don't know why Amazon is sitting on the Carta 1300 6" screen. Makes me curious about the Clara BW.

Tech Support 🛠 Random blank pages scattered about book?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I've seen some other posts that kind of have the same issue but no solutions.

I got about 80 pages in and then there was just a weird column of text in the centre of the screen, blank surrounding, and then a blank page and then back to normal. Then it's fine for another while and now 200 pages in its happening again but i'm missing ten more pages.

I understand it's likely formatting issues? but it's so irritating, if i can fix that myself i would but i don't seem to have the resources.

Tech Support 🛠 Brand-new Kindle Scribe (2024) – Cannot Connect to Server during registration

Hi everyone!
I recently purchased a brand-new Amazon Kindle Scribe (2024) from a reputable retailer in Hungary. The device was sold as new, and I’m its first owner.
Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to complete the initial setup and registration.
Here’s what’s happening:
The Kindle connects to Wi-Fi without any issues.
I can enter my Amazon account credentials.
During account verification, I repeatedly receive the error message “Cannot Connect to Server.”
I’ve tried registering with multiple Amazon accounts, but the same error occurs every time.
I’ve also tried the OTP (one-time password) verification method, but that didn’t work either.
The device gets stuck on the “Verify Account” screen, and even the “Cancel” button doesn’t respond.
Restarting the Kindle doesn’t resolve the issue.
The biggest problem is that I can’t even access the Kindle’s home screen or settings.
I suspected outdated firmware might be causing the issue, so I downloaded the latest firmware from Amazon and connected the Kindle to my Windows PC.
However, since I can’t access the settings menu, I have no way to initiate the software update through the usual process.
At this point, I have a brand-new Kindle Scribe that I can’t use at all.
Has anyone experienced something similar, especially with the 2024 Kindle Scribe?
Is there any way to:
Force a firmware update without accessing the settings menu?
Bypass the initial registration screen temporarily?
Perform a recovery or factory reset without accessing the menu?
Fix this particular server connection error?
I’m trying to figure out whether this is a software/registration issue that can be fixed or whether I received a defective device that needs to be replaced.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
