boat maintenance

not sure if this is the most appropriate sub or not...

I have a small fishing boat. traditionally I would do the winterization myself. but this year I would like to have the winterizing and some other services done professionally.

I know there are a lot of places down in the fox river/chain area.

does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere close by that is reasonable and reputable.

Camera next to Simmons Library

I watched a couple of guys put up a new camera pole right next to Simmons Library and 60th street, a few days ago.

It looked like a flock camera but I thought Kenosha ended their contract with them?

Has anyone noticed a huge increase in drone activity?

I haven’t lived here for even a year yet, but all of a sudden I’m seeing a ton of drones around. There were two about 50 feet above my house that were flying around the neighborhood. It’s the 5th night in a row. I see them a few times a week at least since early September. I live on a very residential quiet street by Roosevelt.

(Also, if anyone else has seen low ish planes flying without a contrail or sound, I’m curious about that. DM me if you’ve also noticed it.)

What’s with all the cats?

I moved here this month. On my block alone there’s at least a dozen stray cats (likely more) that I’ve seen around the park, in the alleys, being fed in people’s yards, lurking around my garage. I’ve also seen numerous posts from the animal shelter saying they are at capacity for cats.

It is just my neighborhood, or is the whole city full of cats?

Lincoln Park Coyote

Warning to those in or around the Lincoln Park area.

Was driving the kiddos to school through LP this lovely sunny morning and all the sudden a coyote came out of nowhere into the baseball fields and took out a squirrel. It happened very quickly.

At first I was confused; but realized what the heck it was. This guy was big and could easily take down your cat or small dog.

I’m assuming it lives in the park since there’s not that many wooded areas around here. Be careful while walking your pet; there were cars and people abt and this thing couldn’t be bothered.

Moving help advice: Heavy items only & bed assembly help needed!

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are moving from an apartment in Mundelein, IL to a single-family home near Kenosha, WI (~26 miles). Neither of us can do any heavy lifting, so we need help moving just our large, heavy items:

  • 1 King mattress & bed frame
  • 1 Queen mattress & bed frame
  • 2 Couches
  • 65" TV & TV unit

Logistics context: We are moving out of an apartment complex that has a freight lift, and moving into a single-family home.

All our smaller personal items and loose belongings will be boxed up, so we do NOT need packing services.

However, we do need whoever moves the beds to disassemble them at the old apartment and reassemble/fix them at the new home.

A few questions for the community:

  1. Do standard local movers handle bed disassembly/reassembly, or is that strictly a "full service/packer" job?
  2. What is the most cost-effective way to handle a small "heavy items only" short-distance move like this?
  3. Has anyone used services like TaskRabbit, Lugg, or local hourly movers for a state-line move like IL to WI? Any specific local company recommendations?
  4. What would be a realistic budget/cost estimate for a small move like this?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

That Solis/Mathewson article...

...may be the funniest thing I've read in some time. Everything Solis does is more ridiculous and more incompetent than the last. Insane level of being compromised by his friendship with the town bully.

I laughed out loud when Solis responded "well, it's not every Tuesday..." after being asked if he met Mathewson every week (at McDonald's, of all places). This was after Mathewson sent a 4-page letter to the judge denying his friendship with Solis.

And Solis' ridiculous response after stating that "Mathewson did not write, approve or edit any communications for his office" was that Mathewson sent his own draft email back to him? What a blatant lie. Nobody does that.

It's like having Michael Scott as DA. Laughing (and crying) at every one of his new antics.

General Election, November 3, 2026.

This is the Democratic lineup for the General election to be held on November 3, 2026. These are the winners of the primaries, and the men and woman we have chosen. Uniting behind our candidates is critical. No candidate is going to be everything to everyone, but sitting out the election, or doing a “protest vote” is the equivalent of casting a vote for the other side. Voting is essential for your personal, as well as national interests.

Register to vote, verify your voting status, request absentee ballots, find your ward, district and polling place at www.myvote.wi.gov.

Federal

US House of Representatives

All 8 Wisconsin members of the US House of Representatives are up for reelection. Currently Republicans hold 6 of them. Find your district and plan to vote. https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_congressional_delegations_from_Wisconsin

Kenosha - Congressional District 1

Democrat Mitchell Berman faces MAGA lackey Bryan Steil

U.S Senate

There are no races for US Senate in Wisconsin this year.

Statewide

Governor

David Crowley) is our candidate. David received 39.8% of the vote, with Francesca Hong following closely with 39.4%. Francesca has already announced she will team up with David’s campaign across the state. This is the winning strategy. Total spending on the 2026 Wisconsin governor race is projected to surpass $100 million and possibly eclipse the state's $164.29 million record set during the 2022 cycle.

Tom Tiffany is the Trump-endorsed Republican runner in the race. He won with 95.9% of the Republican vote. This is unity. This is why the GOP controls the White House, Senate, House and SCOTUS. Tiffany is backed by Elizabeth and Richard Uihlein, billionaire owners of Uline shipping supply company, and Diane Hendricks, billionaire CEO of ABC Supply Co. Add AIPAC and the RNC, and the Republicans have an extremely well-funded race.

Turnout, turnout, turnout is the road back to sanity.

Lieutenant GovernorSarah Godlewski (D) is running against David Varnin (R).

Attorney GeneralJosh Kaul (D) faces Eric Toney (R).

Secretary of State

JoCasta Zamarripa (D) Jay Schroeder (R), and Pete Karas (G) are all on the ballot.

TreasurerYee Leng Xiong (D) vs John Leiber (R).

Wisconsin Assembly

All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly are up in 2026. Currently Republicans hold a 54-45 majority, that Tony Evers fought for 6 years. Wisconsin has a $2.3 billion budget surplus. Tony wanted to use some of the funds to provide daycare, expand Badgercare, provide in-school meals and give raises to teachers, but the Republican-controlled legislature stopped it. Instead, Republicans wanted to “give it back to the taxpayers”. Sounds great, but just like any Republican-led initiative, the largest recipients would be those who need it least. A statement “the average household would receive $1000 in benefits” might be true, but if one household gets $100,000 while 99 get zero, the “average” is $1,000. https://ballotpedia.org/Wisconsin_State_Assembly

Wisconsin State Senate

Republicans hold an 18-15 majority in the State Senate. Of the 33 seats, 17 of them will be on the ballot. Find your district and get out the vote. https://ballotpedia.org/Wisconsin_State_Senate_elections,_2026

Referendums

There are 3 referendums on the ballot this year. All 3 of them are sponsored by Republicans. All 3 were unanimously approved by all Republics in the Assembly and Senate and unanimously opposed by all Democrats. Given the current state of our federal, state and local governments, you can trust that any initiative brought forth by Republicans will not benefit most Wisconsinites. I will vote “No” on all 3.

Prohibit Government Closure of Places of Worship During Emergencies Amendment)

NOTE 1: SCOTUS has recently ruled that the USPS is not responsible for delayed mail. I anticipate “unavoidable delays" involving main-in ballots plaguing Democratic strongholds in November. The SCOTUS decision is just another weapon in the voter suppression war that the GOP has been pushing for decades.

When you receive your ballot, complete and return it as quickly as possible. Even better, deliver it to your municipal building personally.

NOTE 2: The 2026 election cycle is critical. The GOP and MAGA are terrified of losing control of the House and/or Senate, where wealthy and powerful people may be exposed. They will do everything in their power and bankbook to keep this from happening.

The Kenosha humane society is still seeing higher than usual numbers of cats arrive at our shelter.

The Kenosha humane society is still seeing higher than usual numbers of cats arrive at our shelter. In the last 3 days we had 70+ animals arrive at our shelter. This has significantly added to our already high population. We are already extremely understaffed so we are struggling with the amount of animals we are getting in daily. Today alone we received 40+ animals. Everyone who works/volunteers at the shelter love the animals in our care but we are struggling so much with how many animals are coming into the shelter. I'm make this post to bring awareness and ask the community for any support they can offer.

Ways you can help us

  1. Leave healthy stray cats outside. This helps lost cats reunited with their owners. Unfortunately only round 3% of lost cats the arrive in shelters are reunited with their owners. This why leaving them in the neighbor they were found is important.

Bring in sick, injured, young kittens and cats in immediate danger. If you find kittens please wait a few hours before bringing them in if they're not in immediate danger. Mother cats often need to leave their babies throughout the day. We want to keep moms and babies together.

  1. Adopt or consider fostering. This helps has move cats out of the shelter which allows us to have more space for animals than arrive at our shelter.

  2. Donating to our food pantry to help local families in need. Also please check out our website for items that we might need.

  3. Consider alternative rehomeing options like our rehoming page or Facebook. https://www.wihumane.org/service/virtual-rehoming/

  4. Waiting to surrender animals especially cats until our population has gone down. Calling ahead before surrendering is extremely helpful as this allows us to make space or give you a date that we would have space. We can't make space out of thin air and don't have unlimited kennels.

  5. Volunteering. We are always looking for volunteers and we have so many volunteer positions to choose from.

Please be understanding that we are still extremely understaffed and may need to close operations early sometimes to ensure that the animals in our care receive the best care possible. The health and well-being of the animals in our care is our top priority. Please remember that we are trying our best but we have limited staff right now and with our population so high its definitely affecting us. Please remember we are closed Thursday, Saturday and Sunday for surrenders. We have limited staff an those days and are not equipped to handle large amount of surrender those days.

Thank you everyone for your help and support .

If you have any questions or need assistance please vist our website or call and leave a message.

New Construction

Does anyone happen to know what is potentially being built behind Lowe's? There's a large plot of land between 67th St and 60th St, that was recently cleared out. Today they started leveling it out.

Update: it's not the Great Lakes Church construction. Where the sign was, they started leveling this summer very slowly. But this new construction is directly behind lowe's. North of the complex.
