I walk dogs and spend time with them for doggy day out at the Coulee Humane Society. And honestly, all the dogs are wonderful. Every now and then I come across one that I just know is ready for that special someone, if only I could find the person who is looking for her.
This little girl is one of those dogs. Right now her name is Milli but that was just given to her for now. She is not even responding to it.
What is so special about her? I am a single woman who lives alone, and I am not allowed to have dogs at my apartment. So I walk them to have fun and help them have a good day.
I always try to give them the best day. Every now and again, a dog gives ME the absolute best day. I love cuddling with gentle souls who like to be connected, but also understand personal space. For example, Millie gently rested her chin on me while I was driving out to where I took her hiking. She could have laid in back enjoying the luscious pile of pillows I put out for her. But she preferred to maintain a physical connection in a VERY SWEET and PRECIOUS way.
When we arrived, she let it be known she had serious zoomies. Thanks to the surroundings being enclosed by natural barriers, I was able to let her get all the zoomies she needed. And she was awesome. She always made sure I was aware of where she was. If I said "come here" she came running back at top speed to show off how fast she can run and how she was still paying attention to me and had no intentions of letting me out of her sight. We made a little game of it where she ducked behind the tree stump and then I whispered "come here honey bunny" and she came barreling towards me so fast she ran slightly past and then came in for hugs and pets. All I had to do was say "come here my good girl" and she was so happy to show me how attentive she is.
After she got the zoomies out of her, we walked on the trail as if we had been doing it every day of her life. She was so sweet. She always made sure to sit down next to me and enjoy belly rubs when I needed to rest. And she was just so happy to show me she is a super loyal, super loving, attentive, and very intelligent little girl.
If you are like me where you want a dog to be your sweet little honey bunny and a ride or die, someone you want to care and love, who will show you attentive, unconditional love, and who you are ready to bond with for the rest of your life, this is your special girl.
She is the type of dog that will grow your heart bigger than you ever imagined it could be. She does have needs. For example, there was an old beagle (smaller and less energy than her) who Millie really wanted to be friends with, but she played to rough with that dog. I think she needs more socialization with small dogs. Also, she was jealous and didnt want that little dog getting any pets from me. She decided that we were a pair and she was not going to let that little beagle usurp er position as the "good girl."
I would not recommend with cats. (i dont know about the cat thing, but she was rough with the little dog, so Id be cautious about cats. Millie did seem to understand "be nice" as a command for her behavior.)
I would only recommend with another dog if you foster to adopt first and see if she can adjust. Putting her in a situation where she needs to compete for attention will not be a good thing for her. However, sometimes this is an abandonment trauma reaction, so with time she might change. Honestly, I hope with time it does change because I think she would be happy with siblings. But if forced on her, I dont know how that would work out.
Like most dogs, she needs to get out for zoomies. She's young and needs to run. No way around that. And, she needs someone who has the time and desire to lay around and give her lots of cuddles.
Oh! And she did not seem to shed. I dont know how it is at the end of winter, but I was wearing a sweatshirt and we cuddled a lot and she did not leave any hairs on me. How awesome is that!!
