Where to Eat? 🍽️ Best place to watch College Football and eat BBQ

I have a couple of pals coming into town for Chiefs game, they’ve never been to KC, and I want to take them somewhere Saturday afternoon to watch CFB, drink some good local beers, and eat BBQ, preferably at the bar. I was thinking Jack Stack at freight house in crossroads. Any better places?

Traffic/Road Conditions 🚦❄️ The construction in Mission is utterly absurd

Johnson drive is completely blocked through the major shopping district. They worked on that same stretch for like an entire year in recent memory. Then it was open again and now it’s completely blocked off again in a worse way.

You can’t get from one side of the small shopping district to the other without taking a 15 minute detour.

Then there’s the construction on Metcalf just west of the shopping district. This is some of the worst managed road closures I’ve ever witnessed. If you’re northbound on Metcalf anytime between 3PM and 6:30PM, you’re going to be waiting 20+ minutes to move half a mile. No exaggeration.

I don’t even live in this area or go through it often. I’ve only encountered this awful construction like once or twice per month but it’s so ABSURDLY BAD that I have to make this post. I can’t believe the people of Mission put up with this. I can’t believe the businesses of this area put up with this. I have actively avoided businesses in this area because I know it will be a massive pain.

Discussion 💡 Helicopter in midtown?

Has anyone been hearing this helicopter flying around midtown for the last 20-30 minutes? It’s just going around in a circle, really low. It isn’t like a normal hospital copter…anyone know what’s going on?

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Looking for a type of dive / cocktail bar

Hi all! I just recently moved back from a 5 year stint away and am looking for a type of bar I had in my last city that would be comparable here.

It was a neighborhood cocktail bar, that had a great beer shot special, 6 regular bartenders that worked the same shifts (ie andy on Friday etc) and no TV’s (but I wouldn’t mind TV’s). Lots of regulars would come and everyone was social.

Moving back to KC in kinda missing that vibe. I’m on the ks side but 10-15 from downtown / Waldo / river market etc.

Any suggestions would be great.

Original bar I was a local at was the high lonesome in Denver if anyone’s been

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ Arrowhead tailgating

Coming from Atlanta for our first ever chiefs game and looking for a good tailgating experience. Should I go to the ford tailgate experience, pay for a VIP tent tailgate, or try to get an invite from a local? The last one sounds the best but not sure how well that is received in KC.
It’s me and my 30 yr old son. We have bucket listed going to every NFL stadium and are about halfway there. Have been told that Arrowhead is one of the best in the league.
Would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Jobs/Networking 💼 Teenage Kids Hourly Pay

How much are teenage kids getting paid hourly these days? My brother just got a job on the spot at a grocery store in KCK, he was told to show up tomorrow but no discussion on pay. When I was a teenage kid i was getting paid minimum wage but seems like paying someone $7.50 an hour isn’t realistic anymore

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Therapist and psychologist recommendations

30F would like to have testing done and a therapist for mental health help. Struggling with attachment issues, trauma, depression, etc. I do want to start taking medications for my mental health.

I have been told internal family systems would be the best approach for most of my issues.

Attractions/Concerts 🎟️🎡 Chris Stapleton at Morton

Anyone go to Stapleton's Wed night? We are going Thursday. Just curious on the review of the show....crowd and parking since they said they were expecting such a big crowd, we can't leave super early due to jobs. Also, about what time he took stage and what time it was over

Shopping/Groceries 🛒🛍️ Interested in a new front door

I would like to replace my front door and want to get something made of wood and glass. I’d prefer to avoid the big box stores as well. Is there anyone local in the metro who makes quality doors?

Thanks!

Lost and Found 🔑 Lost a spiderman wallet!!

Post image
12 Upvotes

I lost my spiderman wallet about a week or two ago and have been looking ever since, (around south KC Blue Ridge/Longview) for some reason whoever found it is now just using the card. There’s nothing in it anyways. There’s literally my id, kpop sticker/face card thing, a condom and other bullshit. I just bought it a week before I lost it. I don’t recall losing it either. Personally idc about the card I just want the stuff inside it, it’s just memorable things. This is quite a reach to post but I’m trying.

Where to Eat? 🍽️ ISO Big, Classic Burgers

Although I love a smash burger, I’ve been craving that thicc, pub style burger of late. It recently dawned on me that I genuinely don’t know where to get one at this point.

I’m sure the Flea is still open, but its been years since that was worth the trouble.

Anyone able to recommend a local joint that’s still serving a thicc burger patty these days? Ideally KC proper or south KC rather than north of the river. Thanks in advance!

How are we feeling about this weather? I’m running the 10k and I’ve been training a lot in this recent hot weather. Running in the 80s this week so far. Now the start for the races looks like it will be in the 40s. Crazy shift and this is my first event.

Help/Support 🫂 From closing down clubs to closing down the library… anyway, can you vote for my kid?

Somewhere along the way, my nightlife went from last call to “the library closes in 10 minutes.” 😂

The reason is my 10-year-old daughter, Estela, who is basically never without a book.

She’s competing in Stan Lee’s Super Kid contest and somehow made it all the way to the Top 10 in her group. Now only the Top 5 move on, and we are right at that cutoff, so I’ve apparently reached the “ask strangers on Reddit for help” stage of motherhood.

A little about her: she’s Deaf proud, funny, ridiculously curious, loves classic TV, and chose Rap Boy as her favorite superhero because she’s an Eminem fan. She has range.

I’m only asking for the free vote—no donation or anything. It takes about 30 seconds, and you can vote once every 24 hours.

If you want to help a KC-area bookworm keep this thing going:

https://thesuperkid.org/2026/estela-d7cd

Thanks, KC. Now if anyone needs me, I’ll probably be at the library until they turn the lights off.

KC Rants 😡 👎 Weird treatment at a tailor in PV the other day

I have a couple of jackets that need repairs and alteration. I stopped in at Thread the Needle on Somerset in Prairie Village - the location is super convenient for me and their website says they do simple alterations and hems so I was hoping they could be my new regular tailor.

I’ve never been treated like this in my life! I walked in, wasn’t greeted by either of the two people present, so I just said Hi, I have a couple of repairs, can you help me? The woman looked me UP AND DOWN, sneered, shook her head, and looked back down at her phone. It would’ve been funny if I hadn’t been so shocked. I left without saying anything bc I didn’t know what to say. For the record I was wearing what I wore to work as a teacher- cotton dress, cute tennis shoes, simple gold jewelry, hair and makeup done. Not fancy but certainly not messy or unkempt!

Has anyone else had this experience? They seem to have good reviews. Anyone have a better-mannered tailor in the area to recommend?

Help/Support 🫂 Struggling financially with medical issues but make too much for most resources

Hey all, I dont know where to post this but local seems like it could be a decent start.

So back in April I finally went to the hospital for some medical issues I have been having since October of last year. Since then they havent really gotten much better, it really changes day by day, but on average recently (the last 2 or 3 months) I call out an average of once a week. A few weeks ago I also had to miss a week of work because of a very contagious virus I got from work (childcare) so that has put me out even more money.

I am struggling so much financially. I live on my own in my own home, make pretty decent money (almost $47,000 annually gross, estimated if I actually work full 40 hour weeks) so I do not qualify for many resources even though my take home checks have been significantly smaller lately.

I have gone to the food bank once, they were lovely and so kind. I actually overqualified for probably half of their pantry but they still said I would get assistance regardless. I was slightly embarrassed that I made so much (I gave her how much I would make with full 40hr weeks) and was at the food bank...they were all veey kind though. I have nothing wrong with expired food, heck ill eat expired food if it tastes fine to me/looks/smells fine...but some of the food I got there tasted rancid. I tried twice and ended up needing to throw out some of the food. I hated wasting free food so I am put off by going back again/wasting their time and food that maybe someone else wouldnt be bothered by and would eat.

It seems like I do not qualify for a lot of other resources either since I either make too much or am up to date in bills/do not have any utilities shut off as of now. What I got paid this week is about $700 less than it would typically be so I really dont know what I am going to do this month. I can get creative with some food I have in my house, but I have bills I also have to pay that require more money that I would also typically need. (In the past few months I needed a fridge since mine went out, there was no good second hand options at the time so I got a fairly cheap new fridge I finance on affirm, my carecredit bill for my cat, and my discount tire bill for MUCH needed tires before something even worse ended up happening because of 2 bald tires, as well as still paying off debt I accumulated after moving out and dealing with unmanaged depression from a few years ago, pay my psychiatrist so I can get an appointment for a refill of meds, a possible car fix ill need soon and a house fix ive been needing for a few months that needs to be dealt with before it gets to be too cold outside amd the couple grand i owe the hospital for ER visits, mris and spinal taps).

I wouldnt be struggling so much if I didnt live on my own, have so much (temporary and mostly recent) debt accumulated and didnt miss so much work. I try to do food delivery when I am feeling well, but I try not to push it for my own health. If anyone has any ideas id be so appreciative 💜 much love

Construction/Development 🚧🏗️ Rock Island Bridge's Kansas side set to open in November

Thumbnail instagram.com
58 Upvotes

Details from The KC Scene below:

The Kansas side of the Rock Island Bridge is set to open in November, with its own parking lot and an official west side entrance, according to an update shared at the Greenline Committee's October meeting.

Since the bridge opened on April 1, the only way on has been from the Missouri side in the West Bottoms. That means anyone coming from KCK has had to drive over to use it.

The details:

  1. West side entrance and parking lot targeted for November

  2. The full KCK Levee Trail system targeted for March 2027

  3. Work has been slowed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers levee expansion along the river

The bridge is a key link in the Greenline, the proposed 10 mile trail loop around downtown

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and KCK is building the west side access points, trails and ramps. The Kansas City Star reported in April that the western access point, including a trailhead and parking, was expected in fall 2026, with the rest of the trail system likely in 2027 once the Corps finishes its levee work.

---I was skeptical about the development, but it's consistently busy and seems to be doing well.

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Good Bars for going Solo

I’m a recently divorced 50+ man and I would like to find a good bar to go solo and just sit at the bar and possibly meet others guys to chat with and make friends. Meeting woman would be great but I’m long overdue for learning some social skills and making some friends in KC. I currently live in Lee’s Summit and I may be moving to Waldo among other possibilities in KCMO. I realize I can just start going to bar after bar to find the ideal bar but that’s a lot of work, especially for a shy guy like myself. Thanks for any advice.
