I wrote a post here shortly after adopting Basil about 3 months ago. You all gave me some wonderful advice. I was overwhelmed, she was overwhelmed, we were both struggling to adjust. Every day for about a month I contemplated bringing her back to the shelter. But I couldn’t bring myself to do that to a sweet girl who I could tell deep down, if you saw past her raging panic and anxiety, she just wanted love and to know she had someone she could trust.
Even just three months in and she has become my best friend. Her and I understand each other now. The 3-3-3 rule is SO REAL! No, it didn’t make her perfect. Yes, she still digs holes in the yard and hates all strangers. But she also listens (most of the time), loves to do tricks and training, and can even settle down for a handful of minutes without being tethered!! We still have a long way to go but I can see the growth in her every day. It’s such a rewarding experience to take care of her, fill kongs and buy treats and toys for her, just because it will make her happy. I hope we get to celebrate lots more happy and healthy years together ❤️
