[MEN'S HOCKEY] The Huskies have their first home games of the year Friday and Saturday, facing off against Gonzaga

The 5-1 Huskies are set to play Gonzaga this weekend. While Gonzaga gave the Huskies a tough game two years ago, they are coming off some pretty bad losses to WSU, who we beat handily, so these should be really fun games for Huskies fans!

These are technically the first home games of the year(the two WSU games at Northgate were technically away games) so the goal lights will be back. The music will be curated by the team. And the atmosphere will be a true home game atmosphere.

Friday's game should be at like 8/830pm and Saturday's game at 730pm up at Northgate. I'll update as there's confirmation.

As always, tickets for anyone over 12 are $10, kids under 6 and veterans get in free, and student tickets and kids 6-17 are $5.

This weekend is PURPLE OUT!!! Make sure to show up wearing purple!

You can find my season preview here if you'd like.

How are we feeling about all the 24 team playoff talk?

Seems like an announcement is immiment.

One of the bigger parts about the proposal is supposing mandating 10 P4 games. We have Fresno, Portland State, and the Coug's next year. Unless there is some exception granted as a grandfather in grace period, who do we drop?

As I understand it, for financial reasons we have to have 7 home games as well (maybe that is due to 1/2 B10 revenu), Long term, for both reasons I don't see how the apple cup survives this unless an exception is granted for the cougs/beavs as a P4 matchup, but that seems unlikely.

I expect the metric for a lot of coaches getting fired or not will be making the playoffs now. Pretty cut and dry not the loftiest of goals to expect. I suspect Jedd's future will ultimately be contingent on him doing that or not in the next few years.

I'm not holding my breath, but my hope is that somehow maybe the expanded playoff will somehow be a catalyst for further realignment where some regionality returns in a divisional format rather than mega conferences. Maybe playoff seeding more akin to the NFL based on divisional championships? I doubt the old Pac10 will ever get back together but would like a coastal B10 division with the current 4 + standford/cal isn't unrealistic.

Incoming rant from old man (not actually that old) yelling at cloud, for me, on paper I should like this as it increases our chances for a meaningful season, but it's sort of almost having the opposite effect for me, just removing me one more step from the sport that is almost unfamiliar to me now. I have cared less and about the sport as it has evolved over the last few years and reality in the NIL/Portal/B10 has sunk in. This likely ends tradition such as the Apple cup and the concept of bowl games as we know it. (I won’t miss them as they are, but miss what they once were).

I'm expecting just mediocre seasons ahead as you really have to squint in the purple goggles to see us playing in the championshpi game again any time soon. Watching games now just feels like slop-content for content's sake all done in attempt to make money, but they don't really have any other inherent worth besides that. Games that don't mean much to either school as we never interact with the fanbases of those schools, a win or a loss doesn’t matter as much, and players and maybe even coaches just don’t seem to care about being here and up and bail in the search for greener pastures or whatever. I suppose its just reflective of the world in which we now live as that's objectively good career advise, and I can't fault them for it. But I hate that's where we are a sport. My whole reasoning for liking college over pro sports was for love of the game, not being about money, etc. it’s nearly unrecognizable to me now. Frankly, September and October is a lovely time in the PNW, and there's plenty of other stuff competing for my attention on Saturdays in the fall over sitting in front of the TV. Maybe come November when the rain comes back and there's not much else to do, if we are still in the mix of relevancy I'll find myself more invested and interested in how the end of the season plays out? I don't know.

I know it's a month away and the time hasn't been announced but anyone have a good guess on when the game would be (morning, early afternoon, night). Have tickets already but trying to plan the hotel etc and all that.

Demond must-play clause?

Just saw on the dubd up show that there's a conspiracy theory that demonds contract has a must-play clause which would prohibit benching him if he's healthy. I've never heard of this but it's plausible I guess. Are these actually a thing? Even if it's real, what even would the penalty or enforcement mechanism be? I mean if he gets paid anyway....

I fear brown will look good (or even just decent) and fisch will start demond after the bye regardless.

Buy it or build it: UW football is failing at both

Our resources are spread thin, and Fisch isn’t wrong that it’s a lot harder to compete when we’re forced to replace seniors with freshmen. But that makes roster prioritization even more important, and right now it feels like we’re spending too much on the wrong guys.

I’d also genuinely like to know why Washington is struggling so much to raise NIL money, because for a program with our alumni base, market, and recent success, it’s hard to understand why we’re this constrained.

UW's defense melted down against Iowa. Here's what happened

Most of the criticism surrounding this season is correctly attributed to Fisch’s play calling, Demond’s play, and the general malaise on offense. But Walters and the D have been less than stellar in conference play. Against Iowa the D gave up 27 points in the first half and the Hawkeyes averaged 6.9 ypc. Is it scheme, lack of adjustments, lack of experience on D, or a combination of factors?

Does anyone else find it weird how Jedd hesitates every time someone praises Elijah in the media? The press conference and coaches show, seems like he’s iffy on him.

Wishful thinking on my end, but the Wolverines aren't off to a great start either.

Jedd Press Conference 10/12/2026

Can’t believe the stuff Jedd is saying. “Oh we’re the youngest P4 team (because we made it a point to recruit from high school) but in 3 years we will be able to compete”. Have you had conversations about players future? “Oh no, we haven’t had any convos yet about retaining these young players”. Jedd needs to resign this isn’t good.

[MEN'S HOCKEY] The Huskies came back from a four-game road trip in the Bay area over this past weekend with three wins: beating SJSU twice and Cal once

10/8: 8-3 W @ SJSU
10/9: 4-1 W @ UC-Berkeley
10/10: 2-5 L @ UC-Berkeley
10/11: 8-4 W @ SJSU

I am not perturbed at all by the loss to Cal. They are a really solid team and have amazing goaltending. They have been a really big challenge for the Huskies the last two years and it looks like that is going to continue.

UW is no longer favored in any of its remaining games

ESPN uses its Football Power Index (FPI) to project win probabilities for every game. At the start of the season, FPI had the Huskies favored or heavily favored in six games, roughly even in three and underdogs in three, for a projected record of about 7-5. Six weeks later, UW isn't favored in a single remaining game. I couldn't find an archive of the preseason percentages, but here's roughly how the schedule looked in August:

- Washington State: heavy favorite
- Utah State: heavy favorite
- Eastern Washington: heavy favorite
- Minnesota: favorite
- at USC: underdog
- Iowa: toss-up
- at Purdue: heavy favorite
- at Nebraska: toss-up
- Penn State: toss-up
- at Michigan State: favorite
- Indiana: heavy underdog
- at Oregon: heavy underdog

Here's where things stand now, with FPI win odds as of Oct. 11:

- Sept. 6, Washington State: W 24-10
- Sept. 12, Utah State: W 16-14
- Sept. 19, Eastern Washington: W 48-16
- Sept. 26, Minnesota: L 24-27
- Oct. 3, at USC: L 21-25
- Oct. 9, Iowa: L 24-41
- Oct. 16, at Purdue: 39.7%
- Oct. 31, at Nebraska: 10.7%
- Nov. 7, Penn State: 35.8%
- Nov. 14, at Michigan State: 44.8%
- Nov. 21, Indiana: 9.6%
- Nov. 28, at Oregon: 9.7%

My projections for UW WBB Starting 5

Three returners, two transfer portal additions starting for Washington in my projections. PG: Sayvia Sellers, SG: Avery Howell, SF: Macey Huard (Oklahoma State), PF: Brynn McGaughy, C: Tilda Trygger (North Carolina State), 6th Person: Brooke Carlson (Colorado State).

Team should have Big Ten title aspirations this season. A level of depth and roster flexibility Tina Langley hasn't had in her five prior seasons as head coach, plus returning all three of the team's all-conference honorees from last season.

Hire Eck/Shep - Get Pete K back

It’s not a money issue. It’s a coaching/AD issue. Look at Oregon, look at A&M, look at Michigan.

All of those schools have plenty of money, go big in the NIL, but ultimately the play calling or player development holds them back.

Bring in a guy like Eck or Shep or even Grubb who will bring some fire to a program and develop players.

My priority would be finding a way to get Pete K back to UW to lead the defense. I’d rather pay less money for a HC and go big to get Pete K back.

Podcast recommendations

Does anybody have some good husky podcasts they would recommend?

I always listen to say who, it's my gold standard. Christian, Danny, and Ian are great.

I don't like locked on the huskies - roman tends to word vomit a little too much, and does more of a "your turn, my turn" with guests, instead of having a discussion.

Dub'd up has good x's & O's.

Just looking for more suggestions from the fanbase - anything on Spotify or YouTube.

Thanks

UCLA proving us right

It. Is. Coaching. Same spend on football players (they spent slightly less this year). Just better results because of coaching. Way better defense, ok offense but still better than ours.

Stay the F away from Shep

Title says it all! Saw a UW fan asking for Fisch to be fired and go after Shep.. Stay away, he’s dog water of a coach, he hates the community, hates the fans, he is a snooze fest on the sidelines, and he cannot find talent.. Im just looking out for yall.

Signed,

Beav fan who is currently building a Moat around Sheps home right now.

Shoutout to Elijah Brown!

Just want him to know the band was cheering his name, as well as yelling “MVP!” several times during the game. First time I’ve ever seen it happen; you got us hyped man!!

Wow. So it is all Demond’s fault

Put in a fucking backup and it’s like a whole different team. Actually makes reads, doesn’t get sacked, makes quick decisions, great arm.

Fisch needs to fucking BENCH DEMOND. I will boycott every home game if they do not make a quarterback change.

ELIJAH BROWN. LEARN HIS NAME.
