What a Design by Petzing

From start to finish, this play is beautifully designed & executed. AZ brings a man pressure, and they have issues with the switch in coverage roles to handle Wright's flat route. LaPorta waltzes into the end zone on a Wheel. The pass pro is the key here. Solid!

Noticed in the updated QB rankings this week they've finally put JG in Tier 1 with the rest of them. It’s about time, lol.

Brock Wright is such an asset in the run game 💪 Here on Wide Zone he bangs the hip on the edge defender to knock him over to LaPorta before climbing the next level.

Image NFL Future Strength of Schedule, Weeks 6-18: Lions will face good defenses and bad offenses

Post image
36 Upvotes

Pretty interesting chart, and the Lions find themselves near the extremity of one of the quadrants: facing bad offenses and good defenses. (Note that these are for *future* weeks, not past weeks.)

My instinct is to say that it's better this way than the other way around. We probably will see the offensive production dip but especially with Mays coming back, the offense should be up to the challenge. If we had to give one of the units a break, you'd want it to be the defense.

But I can also make a case the other way: unless we see more performances like we saw in Arizona, it may not matter how bad opposing offenses are. You don't need an elite offense to score points if there are blown coverages on every other play. In that case, you might imagine that it doesn't really matter what kind of offenses we play and our only hope is scoring a million points a game, in which case you'd have it reversed.

What do you think? Outside of being in the bottom left quadrant, is this the best place for us?

Grading the Detroit Lions defense: D-line’s been great, but the rest has been a mess

The Lions’ defensive line has been one of the best in football, but the rest of the defense has been a mess. Detroit ranks 32nd in yards and passing yards allowed, with coverage busts and injuries exposing the secondary. Here’s the defensive report card heading into the bye week.

Good look at how a defense's coverage and pass rush can work together to create negative plays for the opposing offense.

The Lions enter their bye week with a 3-2 record after delivering their best performance of the season in a dominant 45-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Now, the early bye provides an opportunity for Campbell to address lingering issues ahead of the Week 7 game against the Green Bay Packers. https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2026/10/15/4-priority-issues-for-dan-campbells-2026-bye-week/

The mantra for the Lions' defense: Just be average 👌

If the defense can be a top-20 unit, the offense will foot the bill to get into the playoffs
