Power Rankings Official r/NFL Week 5 Power Rankings

Another week, another completely objective look at our the 32 best NFL teams in the world. The Niners retain the top spot and the Packers take our biggest week-over-week jump. Other than that, things are settling into place with a nice and even 5/18ths of the season under our belt.

30/32 Reporting · Rankings by Voter

Rank Team Δ Record Comment
1 49ers -- 5-0 The resiliency of this team cannot be overstated. After losing a starting WR (hamstring) and LB (headbutt), the team still found a way to win in Seattle 32-29, securing 5-0 and, more importantly, 3-0 in a division that they were forecasted to come in 3rd by most preseason predictors. The team looks to continue the streak next week at home against the Commanders.
2 Chiefs -- 4-0 A quarter of the way through the season, the Chiefs look like the Cream of the AFC. They need a WR like water, but the rest of the roster looks strong. No major changes with the early bye, but no one around the league showed anything to move them out of the top 2 in my rankings.
3 Bills +1 4-1 This blurb almost looked very different. Cook had what appeared to be the game ending turnover on a crucial fumble in overtime. Josh Allen looked like he was about to fall to 0-8 in OT as the all too familiar script played out for the Bills, hanging with a top team in an offensive shoutout only to commit a late game ending turnover. Lucky for the Bills, there was a savior on the defense Gregory Rousseau, he rose to the occasion blocking the thicker kicker allowing Bass to complete the redemption arc after his earlier missed extra point. This game had 24 penalties, nearly 900 yards of offense and 71 combined The most interesting stat might be the difference between the 19 passes Allen threw versus the 54 Stafford threw. The Bills defense still looks very vulnerable and adjustments need to be made as quickly as possible if Buffalo wants to prevent spiking the blood pressure of every Bills fan. Next up the Bills have another game out west against the 3-2 Raiders. Can Cook please learn to hold onto the football!
4 Seahawks -1 3-2 Despite a reasonably close game that was still within reach at the end, it is clear the Seahawks need to make an addition to the running back room. There were multiple mistakes by the offense that nearly took Seattle out of the game. George Holani fumbling in your own endzone to gift the 49ers 7 points just before halftime. Emanuel Wilson fumbling deep in your own territory, a couple of Sam Darnold turnovers. Through it all, the Seahawks still had the ball at the end of the game with an opportunity to tie or win the game with a successful drive. JSN dropped a pass for maybe the first time in his life, and Cooper Kupp just couldn't get there on 4th down. The defense is good, giving Brock Purdy his first fits of the season nd holding the 49ers offense relatively in check... Although Mike Evans is a monstar. A healthy jadarian Price wasn't enough for a good running game. A returning Charbonnet won't be enough for a good running game. Anyway, the Seahawks play the Broncos on Thursday Night Football this week in the best uniform game of the season. Go Hawks.
5 Jaguars -- 4-1 It doesn't take a pessimist to look at a team going down by two points with eight seconds in regulation remaining to think the game is over. However, if you've watched Jaguars football for more than a year or two, you likely thought just that when the birds knocked through the go ahead kick in London this week. The Jaguars players didn't suffer that grim thought, it seems. Instead they lined up for a kickoff like a slew of PC enthusiasts (with no memory.) Seven seconds to run half the field, and the last one to literally one-up the Eagles. Ugly or not, the squad did what matters most: just win. mfw
6 Ravens +1 4-1 Snoop there it is. Going to Atlanta without Lamar or Trey Hendrickson the Ravens were definitely facing an uphill battle. That challenge got even steeper shortly into the game after settling for a ~20 yard FG and fumbling away 7 points to the Falcons. Ravens defense continues to be absolutely atrocious at stopping 3rd and long but they otherwise did a fantastic job bottling up Bijan Robinson and limited explosive plays overall. At 4-1 and with a plethora of reinforcements on the way(Jackson, Hendrickson, Jurgens, Lane) the Ravens face an absolutely pivotal end of October against the entire state of Ohio.
7 Vikings +2 5-0 Are the Vikings' as good as their record> Maybe, maybe not. You have to admit at least that the defense is championship-caliber -- the Vikings not only lead the league in defensive EPA/play allowed; they are more than twice as good on an EPA/play basis than the second-place Seahawks. The special teams also ranks 1st in EPA/play. And the offense is starting to come together -- just throw Justin Jefferson the ball and good things tend to happen.
8 Rams -2 2-3 Another week, another win squandered. Despite a stellar offensive performance and big defensive plays, special teams mistakes, penalty issues, and conservative late-game decisions cost the Rams a win. Sound familiar? Definition of insanity, anyone? There’s a lot of evidence (even from this game) that the Rams ARE a good team—good enough to beat anybody—but the team they keep beating is themselves. What a terrible way to cap off an already terrible sports weekend in Los Angeles.
9 Broncos +1 3-2 Well, we beat the Chargers. So that means we're good, right? No way could we have issues if we were able to beat such a complete and super bowl ready team, yeah? There's literally no one better to go up against and we squeaked it out. We are so good.
10 Patriots +3 3-2 Honestly, fuck September. All the homies hate September. Easily a bottom tier month, maybe the literal worst month of the year. October though, now THAT’s a good month. Probably the only month that even matters if you ask me. In fact, October is so good that I think we should just double every NFL stat during the month and simply forget about any stats that were recorded during September. If we did that, Drake Maye would be the best qb in the NFL and the front runner for mvp, but that’s correlation not causation. Either way, the Patriots managed to massacre the NFL’s September darlings this weekend despite starting “practice squad” level players at wide receiver and starting me, my buddy Greg, and the most athletic guy behind the counter at the Foxborough Dunkin Donuts at Corner. This team is showing it can win real football games against decent teams despite their massive injury attrition, imagine what they might be able to do once AJ Brown and Christian Gonzalez return? Hopefully we’ll get to see it this weekend against the Jets, and if not then perhaps next Thursday vs the Bears. Either way, the outlook on this season has swung from awful to amazing in just a few weeks.
11 Bengals +1 3-2 O, my black soul, now thou art summoned............ Conglaturations Bengals you beat the Dolphins! Good for you! You didn’t lose to the 0-5 Dolphins! This is truly one of the Bengals moments of all time. Call me Debbie Downer if you want, I just didn’t find our 7 point victory over the Dolphins to be all that impressive. The fact the game came down to an onside kick is not a great look, especially for that supposedly improved defense. We still have the worst linebackers in the league, and for once the main problem wasn’t the secondary! Yay! It was giving up over 200 yards of rushing. We came into the game with a pretty good run defense too, and Malik Willis and the Dolphins made it look like a mirage. I don’t want to do it, because everyone hates a debbie downer you know? I don’t want to, but right now I think the Bengals are on full fraud alert. We can’t run the ball, our offense in general is incredibly inconsistent, our defense is more suspicious than a white van marked “free candy” sitting outside an elementary school, and even against a team that’s actively in the tank bowl for the first pick we played as if it was a legitimate challenge. This should not have been a close game. The best I can hope for is that we reevaluate things in the bye week and change some shit up. Because good god it’s needed.
12 Bears -4 3-2 This is my first year as a ranker and I didn’t know it could hurt this much to write a blurb. My wife’s porch goose showed more spirit Sunday than these Bears. “You know what next week is? Enough said.” said Ben Johnson after pummeling the Jets. Apparently, enough was NOT said. I was worried Bagent was the wrong call and this might be a tough game despite how bad GB has looked. I didn’t expect a team playing its hated rival with the late Mike Ditka in mind would get completely outclassed in such fashion. Thankfully Iron Mike didn’t have to see that trouncing. This team can’t get Caleb Williams back soon enough. Injuries are a lame excuse, and going 2-1 without #18 is about as good as you could ask for, but this one HURT. Jaylon Johnson & the rest of our secondary made Christian Watson & Matthew Golden look like Randy Moss and Julio Jones. Jordan Love threw moonball after moonball, with 258 yards coming on just 6 deep completions. No Packer has ever thrown for more yards at Lambeau against Chicago, and that makes me want to throw up in my mouth. We lost the turnover battle five to nothin’. The Packers looked like a different team than they have all season, and not just because of those unfortunately cool Rivalries uniforms. Hopefully we get a much different outcome on Christmas, but long before then we must rebound quickly: a road bout with the feisty Falcons and a home tilt just 4 days later against Drake Maye-have-remembered-how-to-play-football awaits, followed by a tough one in Seattle to end this spooky stretch.
13 Lions +3 3-2 It was announced early on Sunday that Cynthia "Cindy" Miller, wife of the Lions' radio announcer Dan Miller, lost her life the day before after a long battle with cancer. To Dan, their children, and the rest of their family, on behalf of Lions fans everywhere, you have our condolences, and our hearts go out to you. For anyone interested, donations can be made to https://lmcancer.org/, in Cindy's name. Also this week, the NFL, and in particular the NFC North, lost a legend with the passing of Mike Ditka. Very few could match his longevity and success in and around the league, as a player, a coach, and an analyst. To both Cindy and Mike, may you be at peace.
14 Packers +9 3-2 Jordan Love had one (1) week where his offensive line wasn't immediately disintegrating like tissue paper and gave him more than 2.5 seconds to throw the ball and he put together what may have been the finest game by a quarterback all season. He broke the franchise record for most passing yards against the Bears at Lambeau, including 5 pass completions of over 30 air yards. I said in the preseason that the Packers needed to "survive" the opening stretch of the season while Micah Parsons gets healthy, and despite the qualitatively lackluster start Green Bay sit in 2nd place in the division. If the trenches can maintain even basic competence, maybe they can make some noise down the stretch.
15 Eagles -1 2-3 Nick Sirianni purposely threw the game to distract from the fact that his offense is so painfully bad. And in the 2nd half of games, it's painfully and historically bad. Jalen Hurts has thrown 16 screen passes this year. The total net yardage for those 16 passes? -3 yards. They have zero answers against the blitz. Is it time to reset? Probably. The 2015 and 2020 seasons led to Super Bowl appearances two years later. Maybe the 2026 season should be a rebuilding year. Howie Roseman has the benefit of being unfireable, so he can afford to make moves for 2028 picks (as he's already done with AJ Brown and Cam Jurgens). Of course, if the Eagles win next week, I take back everything and we should put all our chips in and win now.
16 Raiders -5 3-2 Last week we had maybe a few too many seeing a close loss as some sort of moral victory as a consolation (myself included). There was nothing close about this one. At 3-2 we are far from writing off this season but this seems like the sort of loss that either wakes a team up or puts a team into the dirt. The response to this one will show a lot about the potential Klink Kubiak possesses.
17 Panthers -- 2-2 A much needed bye proved fruitful with Taylor Moton returning to action. This comes at a great time as rookie Monroe Feeling, who had been starting at RT, is dealing with a knee so Moton returning to his post is huge. Next week the Panthers will be traveling to Philly to take on the Eagles to hopefully continue the momentum from Sunday Night Football which already feels like ages ago. It should be a good game and I’m excited to see how this Panthers team responds after a big win and a bye week. KEEEEP POUNDING!
18 Steelers +4 3-2 Do you find you asking yourself “who’s playing CB today?” Have you used Wikipedia more than 3-times per game to identify a Steelers WR or CB? Have you said “Mike Tomlin would’ve won this game” more than twice since the season began? You may be suffering from early to mid-season Steeleritis. Symptoms may also include a whiplash-like sensation caused by the inability to win back-to-back games, wondering if our WR’s high-five each other with beef tallow on the sidelines, and a general state of irritation when you hear the name “Joey Porter.” If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Steeleritis, discuss potential treatment plans with your doctor. Steeleritis has no known cure, but winning a playoff game has been known to send it into remission for multiple years. Additional treatment options include denial, delusional optimism, and hate-watching the Ravens/Browns/Bengals. Some fans find that hate-watching the Cowboys is also effective in alleviating symptoms.
19 Cowboys -4 2-3 Fuck me gently with a chainsaw, that was embarrassing.
20 Giants +1 3-1-1 What an absolute shitshow. The Giants and Commanders faced off in a competition of who could pull defeat from the jaws of victory in a more chokeworthy fashion, and the NFL gods deemed the only fair outcome for such an unprecedented level of “no, you” in a game was a tie. Giants fans had to watch previously automatic kicker Dominic Zvada miss not one, not two, but three kicks in Sunday’s contest, and so were understandably holding their breath even as the Giants closed in on the Commander’s redzone deep into OT. People who say that running the ball there was the wrong call were missing the context of what led up to that moment. The bigger issue is that Cam Skattebo needs to understand that the defense is in desperation mode and hold onto that ball like a newborn baby… actually, I’m not entirely convinced Cam Skattebo would hold a newborn baby in the most secure of ways, so maybe scrap that. Regardless of the mediocrity of Sunday’s outcome, a solid “meh” for both sides, fans were treated to prime Jameis Winston experience: the man was airing the ball out left and right, and showed more accuracy than he had in previous weeks. Nabers and Likely both proved why they’re the top two receiving options in this one. The Giants get yet another team with a losing record in the Saints this Sunday, where they’ll try to hold onto their 1.5-game NFC East division lead. Fans have to at least be impressed that the Dartless Giants have managed to hold on as much as they have since losing their starting QB.
21 Falcons -1 2-3 Winning this game wouldn't change the facts that Mark Andrews' Lee Evans impression kept the game competitive. After beating a Packers Oline of fent leaners and a Saints team matching Brees' effort in an Advocare keynote, this loss was a reminder of how far Cunningham and Stefanski have yet to go. Penix ran cold, then hot, then took a rib-crunching shot that could be blamed on Kyle Pitts, then spent the next thirty minutes explaining the Richard Hoagland Coast to Coast episode with the face on Mars to the medical staff before hiding behind Tua. The defense let Hill run amok, let Henry pick up steam, and had no answer for the only receiver worth keying in on. The offense was inconsistent far before Tua took the field. Next week the Falcons take on a team almost as volatile as them.
22 Colts -3 2-3 "I thought I could've done a better job for sure. ... I look at myself first and foremost in those situations to get better for our guys moving forward." — Colts fans are so used to this kind of comment from coach Shane Steichen that they could be forgiven for not realizing that quote actually came after the Chiefs game last season, not this week's loss in Pittsburgh. And as the postgame comments remain the same, so too does the subpar play on the field. On defense: missed tackles, Swiss cheese zone coverage, zero pass rush. On offense: red-zone inefficiency, overthrown receivers, a disappearing run game. The schedule isn't getting much easier, either. After a home matchup against the Titans come back-to-back road games in Minneapolis and Jacksonville. This team could be 3-5 in the blink of an eye. At some point you have to wonder whether Carlie Irsay-Gordon will clean house before the season ends. Without a first-round pick in next year's draft or a long-term answer at quarterback, Indy may need extra time to convince a new potential GM that the job is worth taking.
23 Browns -5 3-2 The Cleveland Guardians have made their way the ALCS. Chase DeLauter and Jose Ramírez lead the Guards to a 7-3 win over the Rays in Game 1 of the ALCS. By the end of the game they silenced the crowd in St. Pete. While Cleveland is a small market team, they are showing everyone they have just as much power and poise as the big payroll clubs. The Guardians hope to win game two and close out the series in Cleveland. Also the Browns lost to the Jets, and face the Ravens next week in Baltimore.
24 Texans +1 1-4 There are three certainties in life...death, taxes, and the Texans beating up on the cosplaying Titans. While this win doesn't move the needle much on how terrible the season has started, it's nice to get a little momentum heading into what's effectively a do or die game against the Jags next week in London. CJ Stroud continued his resurgent season with 261 passing yards and a couple of TDs, and now his college buddy is joining the fold. Was the Marvin Harrison trade an overpay? Probably, but what else was Nick Caserio going to do with a 2nd round pick? Take another project player that's a healthy scratch every week?
25 Jets +2 2-3 Welcome to the NFL, David Bailey! The Jets' No. 2 overall pick did his best Chris Hansen impression, racking up 3 sacks, 4 QB hits, and 9 pressures while terrorizing the Browns' quarterback. The Jets' defense has exceeded expectations so far this season, but a much tougher test awaits next week when they head to New England to take on a resurgent Patriots offense.
26 Saints -2 1-4 The celebration of Drew Brees entering the Saints Ring of Honor instead served as jazz funeral for a fallen team. The Superdome has turned from a fortress to a welcome mat and the Vikings made sure they reminded us of that. 6-14 at home in 3 years! Maybe the team was just paying Drew tribute when they only got 9 first downs all game. Kellen Moore has a lot of promise. Just please stop promising it will get better, and get better.
27 Commanders -1 1-3-1 If the currency of the NFL was "embarrassing franchise moments", this team entered Sunday like old money Southern aristocrats; we don't even remember all the ways we came into wealth, and we prefer you not press us too much about it cause we all know it's not good. All the same, it's clear that we are wealthy. Leaving Sunday though, this team has reached the level of wealth that prompts one to get on TRT and start building rockets; this is trillionaire-tier wealth. On Thursday night, the Cowboys had one of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory, letting an undrafted rookie QB representing a winless team dunk on them. Then, Sunday morning the Eagles thought they could do one better by allowing a 8 second comeback to the London Jags. Then, in this very game, the Giants did an all timer by fumbling the ball in overtime well within FG range, setting Washington up for the clean sweep: 3 division rivals losing in embarrassing fashion, an overtime win at home, a division win in a weak division. It was right there for the taking. But in this version of the NFL, embarrassment is wealth, and this franchise demands to be top dog. What followed was the single most baffling thing any Washington fan, or NFL fan, has ever seen; and mind you this is the team that watched Kirk Cousins kneel the ball to end the half in a goal to go against a division rival. Snatching a tie from the jaws of victory is somehow worse than just snatching defeat. I would truly rather have watched JD5 throw a pick six to lose in overtime than watch what actually happened. Now at a disgustingly lame 1-3-1, this team faces real questions about coaching competence, roster construction, and looks poised to have another losing season in an NFC LEast year. Things are not okay in Washington. Oh, and up next they visit the undefeated 49ers for a Monday Night game. This is fine.
28 Buccaneers +2 1-4 That's the hopium in my ear, I've been sober a fuckin' year. And that fucker still talks to me, he's all I can fuckin' hear - "Marshall, come on, we'll watch the game, it's the Cowboys and Buccaneers." ...and hey, it turns out I did the right decision. JD10 looked better than JD5, the defense showed up, and we won a primetime game! The realist in me says that we are 1-4 and we have a mountain to climb. The other realist in me says that we played 0 divisional games and we are 1.5 games behind the #1 spot. Such is the fate of shit mountain. You are never really out, so they can't really pull you back in. You are halfway through the door, in an odd place where you are not sure whether you are coming or going. The copiumholic in me says that maybe we are doing the reverse of last season where we started amazing and then we lost a bunch of winnable games. So maybe this year's #RoadTo8-9 will give us a streak of us winning few games against better opponents? One primetime win in Jerryworld is too much for me to doom, but too little for me to gloom. Kinda feels like déjà vu...
29 Cardinals -1 1-4 The Arizona Cardinals have hit rock bottom, and that's saying something. This week's game was over before it even started, as news that the Cardinals were selling MHJ at his low point leaked on Saturday. After that, the Cardinals' Sunday couldn't have gone worse. Ex-Cardinals around the league flourished, Kyler Murray led the Vikings to 5-0, Jonathan Gannon shut down Ben Johnson and co, and, most painfully, Drew Petzing came into Arizona and hung 40 on the Cardinals. It seems that, through everything, the single constant variable in the Cardinals' failure is the Cardinals. They'll fire GM Monti Ossenfort, who has been horrible in his 4-year rebuild that has kept the Cardinals at the bottom of the league and brought in zero elite talent. I'd said that HC Mike LaFleur would be safe, but if he sticks with Jacoby Brisset for much longer, he may be one and done. However, we've learned enough to know that none of this matters until owner, Michael Bidwill, sells the franchise. Through it all, he is the constant factor that has led this team to absolutely nothing. Please Mr. Bidwill, we as a fanbase BEG you to let the franchise go. For it to have any chance to succeed, this has to happen. makebidwillsellthecardinals.com
30 Chargers -1 0-5 What happened to this team? For years, they were the Starbucks Frappuccino of the NFL. Overhyped, obnoxiously overpriced, and the pounds upon pounds of sugar only serve to mask how mediocre the actual coffee is. There's no denying it's a flawed beverage... but at least it's entertaining. It's always available in genuinely interesting and unique flavors, and it remains fun to drink. This year, however? There's nothing fun about them! The coaching is uninspiring. The o-line is one big turnstile. The receivers couldn't catch a cold. The defense has regressed to mediocrity. Even Justin Herbert has become a husk of his former self. Everyone's just so bitter, and depressed, and sick of each other. They've become, in essence, gas station decaf. It's probably time they switch out the baristas...
31 Dolphins +1 0-5 Another loss but another game with the young players showing some growth, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Chris Johnson, the Dolphins 1st round rookie, was lined up against Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins and only allowed 4 receptions for 22 yards and really looked like he belonged. After allowed 63 yards and 2 touchdowns his first game, he's allowed just 83 yards on 11 receptions on then last 4 games. Unfortunately the offensive side of the ball hasn't seen much growth, and Malik Willis is starting to catch more heat for holding the ball too long and seeing the field particularly well. There's still 12 more games to go in the season, but so far Willis isn't passing his audition to be the Dolphins long term starter.
32 Titans -1 0-5 Another Sunday, another no-show by the Titans. Losing at home by 23 points while managing just a field goal against a division rival is about as low as the Titan fan experience gets. This season will only get worse, it’s hard to see where a win would come from on their schedule.

"On Monday night, before the Rams took on the Bills at SoFi Stadium, the site of this season’s Super Bowl, Buck “broke the ice” on this unspoken tension, and he and Aikman had an argument, a source said. It ultimately de-escalated, and the two had a broadcast in which viewers never would have been able to decipher that something was amiss."
