Discussion What is your setup?

Genuine question: What is your setup? Do you crochet on the couch or at a table? I saw a lady using a lactation pillow to rest her hands and work on; what do you think about that? I am asking because I usually crochet on the couch, halfway laying down, and it's really starting to mess up my neck. Any suggestion is appreciated!

Discussion What's your life as a crocheter like?

Post image

I'm on my lunch break and I was wondering:

What is it like/does it look like to crochet for you?

For me it's this:

I have a backpack with work stuff and this totebag for my crochet and essentials (lip balm, hand sanitizer etc..)

And I carry them everywhere every day I have to work! So that when I have an awkwardly timed break, I can just sit down with something in my ears and vibe until it's time to go/ I take public transports a lot and if the rides are over 10-15minutes I just... Zone out and crochet?

It made me appreciate the art even more because sometimes children/younger people (I'm 26) will come to me and ask about it or just watch me do my thing in pure amazement!

It's so cute and I always carry and extra hook I don't usually use (just in case they REALLY don't want to give it back) so they can see how it feels to hold it, to touch the yarn etc...

Discussion Anyone use Etsy alternative Fybe.art yet?

• Upvotes

I just learned about Fybe. It claims most listings are vetted to not use generative AI anywhere in the process, which is promising. Apparently all vendors are vetted before they're allowed to set up shop as well. Most of the crochet listings are for amigurumi, whose creators I don't follow. Anyone have an experience to share?

I am especially interested in the watermark they apparently add to digital files. I am dyslexic and find certain watermarks incredibly difficult to "see through" if they go through text or even tutorial photos, distorting the stitches. They don't show an example anywhere on the site that I can find. Can anyone describe it?

Crochet Rant Lost yarn chicken and now I'm stuck with two options I hate.

This is so frustrating I want to cry. I worked on this for two months and it ended like this. And the only options I have are:

1, Frog the last row, but the final row will not have the same colour from start to end and it will look ugly.

2, Buy an entire new yarn cake and use only the blue colour to end this row. But what will I do with the rest of the cake. I have no use for that and it will be just another clutter in my home.

I hate this. I need to sleep on this i guess.

Edit: I will try what some of you advised and do the last row with smaller hook and if that won't wor I will buy another cake and do scarf with the rest.

Im not gaining or losing stitches, and I prefer the front post double crochet method of ribbing, which i learned after starting this hat. Should I frog the whole thing and start again with the fpdc method?

Work in Progress Favorite cotton + acrylic yarns for blankets in Europe?

I'm going to try to start making blankets, but I'm really struggling to find good yarn options that aren't TOO pricey. Which are your favorite cotton + acrylic yarns that are available in Europe and that make beautiful blankets?

Discussion How do you choose your next project?

There are so many options! I get overwhelmed. I’ve been crocheting for most of my life, off and on. I like to be in the midst of a project and working on it diligently but picking a direction can slow me down. What are some of your favorite go to projects?

Discussion How to handle child being gifted crocheted items they probably will not like?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice! I am absolutely unreasonably anxious about this so please be gentle, and I'm asking in this sub because you all know the work that goes into crochet. I am a crocheter as well.

So, I have a little problem. My SIL came up with the idea to crochet my 7 year old son a hat, mittens, and a scarf in his favorite sports team's colors. Not exactly the most exciting gift for a child, but he does LOOOOVE this sport team and the items are useful.

The problem is that she chose one of the colors wrong, think green and white instead of green and gold for the Packers (not the real team bc I'm paranoid). So like wrong enough to not be recognizable by my kid as representing the beloved team.

My child is incredibly sweet and kind, but very blunt and literal. I promise I'm working hard on teaching him politeness, but it's a work in progress. I am very, very worried about what he will say upon receiving this gift that he will likely be displeased with.

My SIL sent me a picture of the first few rounds of the hat, that's when I realized she'd purchased the wrong colors, and I DID tactfully point out that one of the colors isn't right. Only like 15 minutes of work will have been wasted and I know the yarn can still be easily exchanged, but she wants to proceed anyway.

So, what should I do here to prep my kid to gracefully receive this present?

I designed this hat myself and crocheted it using yarn made of 50% wool and 50% acrylic. I worked with two strands of yarn held together and used a 3 mm crochet hook.

I decorated the hat with blue beads and a crescent moon charm.

There is no crochet pattern available for this hat, as it is my own original design, which I created from scratch.

To finish the hat, I attached strands of yarn to both sides and braided them into long decorative braids.

Working on this tapestry crochet and I'm new to the techniques. This is single crochet, horizontal rows, fair isle colorwork, turning my work every row. The pixels are making this squiggly pattern instead of looking like individual pixels. I'm swapping colors mid stitch. Should I continue and finish or is it too hard to tell what's going on?

Discussion I had to fix a missing double crochet.

I first saw this video and immediately added it to my collection of video tutorials. It has come in handy on many occasions. Mainly because I am too lazy to rip out more than 20 inches or so to remove the mistake. I modified the technique so that I no longer need to use a slip knot. I insert the hook and pull up a loop and then place the tail to the left of the hook. Then I insert the hook to the left of the tail and pull up a second loop. The tail is securely trapped between the two loops on the hook.Next I yarn over and pull the yarn through the left loop only. Then I spin the hook to twist the yarn. The final step is to yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops. For the repair I pull the tail completely through the loop then weave the two tails in. In addition to repairing missing double crochets I use this technique to attach a new color of yarn to my project. I use this same twisted starting DC to start a new row or round rather than using a chain two.

Work in Progress Almost 1000 yarns of this fun yarn...

I love the neps and the colors, and I got ten skeins in ten different colors (on clearance) and I have tried a few different projects, but i hate everything i have started. It all looks horrible. I haven't worked with super bulky yarn in over a decade and maybe that's the issue? Everything is coming out very stiff? My last attempt i did try some free form crochet(picture), but surprise, surprise... i actually dont like it! I mean, I do, but i also dont know what the hell i would do with a random shape item, which makes me not like it. I feel like i did a decent job with the free form, but with this yarn and as a concept as a whole, it just isnt doing anything for me.

I have no idea what to do with this yarn and i feel like i have wasted so much time trying to do something with this yarn I was so so so excited about.

If you have any suggestions, or ideas, please let me know!! I am going to, once again, frog this project and start over.

Or maybe I'll stuff it all in a bag and put it at the back of my storage unit to be excavated years from now.

Work in Progress First time crocheting; making a scarf! How does it look so far?

Thumbnail

I just bought yarn and hooks from Walmart yesterday and just started my crochet journey!

Hooks: Aluminum - 5mm Plastic - 6.5mm
Yarn: 4 inch 170g 80% acrylic 20% wool

For my first project i’m going to keep it simple and create a scarf. I’m using single crochets (I think). I find that the thicker wool is easier for me to use. I realize I should’ve gotten a larger aluminum hook and skipped on the plastic ones.

\*\*Is it easier for you to use thinner or thicker wool to start off with?\*\*

After this project, I’m going to make something using double crochet and after that I might attempt to make a poncho using granny squares (not sure if this is too advanced; please let me know or feel free to recommend any future projects after this one)

Any tips are recommended.

Discussion Mom passed - anyone in the GTA (Toronto) have any advice on what to do with her work?

Sorry if this isn't a correct place to post this but I could use some advice. My mom passed away suddenly. I live abroad and have traveled back home to Toronto (Mississauga) to sort things out. My mom crochet and had a ton of stuff. I have practically given away her tools and thread via cheap Facebook marketplace posts but I feel shit about giving away some of her completed pieces. I already donated bags of crocjets tops and skirts but I know have a bunch of tablet cloths and some blankets. Any advice on what to do with this stuff? As I live abroad, I can't take it all. I will keep some stuff but the rest it too good to throw away. I have a mix of pieced meat for a coffee table, to placemats to pieces to cover a full dining room table. Thanks.
