10 skeins of the grey wool at $2.99 each, 9 skeins of the purple at 4.99 each, 4 of the acrylic mohair blend, 1 of the alpaca acrylic and 1 of the Icelandic. Which do you think I should get and which to pass?

Look at all this nice yarn. I got at Goodwill for just 6 dollars. I'm broke, but it was worth it

Does anyone have recommendations for other yarns dyed like this(in my head I've been referring to them as "white and" yarns😂)? First picture is my current WIP with Drops Fabel, second picture is a sweater I knit years ago in some yarn from Hobby Lobby, third picture is Premier Painterly, which I have on my list to try next. I just really love how this style of yarn works up, especially in simple stitch patterns. But aside from just randomly stumbling across them, I haven't found a better way to search, so I figured asking a huge group of assembled yarn addicts might give me some other options to try!

Hello! I've just realized that there are a few sock patterns for crocheters, even though the knitting crowd usually has these cornered (heeled? ouch.)
I know that there's a wide category of yarn called sock yarn, but I'm trying to go into my giant stash first. This is almost entirely 100% wool, with some cotton and linen, almost no blends.
My question is, do I need to use superwash? Can I use regular wool, or will that just felt up immediately in the wash? I've made sweaters before but I hand-wash and hang dry, and I'm concerned that a sock will not get that kind of care and they get way dirtier than, say, cardigans ever do. Any ideas on navigating this so I don't need to buy more yarn atm would be very helpful, thank you!

If any other Canadians know, there is a type of “mini yarn” at Dollarama that comes with 8 random colours. They come in cotton or acrylic. The cotton one is perfect for my specific needs for my projects…except for the fact that I can’t pick and choose the colours. For instance, I really need a nice vibrant yellow right now and all they have is a pastel one, and I have to buy that with 7 other colors I already have a lot of.
Anyways, I want to look for yarn like this that I can order online in bulk and specific colours instead. Like I said, it’s about 1-1.5 mm thick (or lace weight - fingering weight), and I would much rather work with natural fibres. Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 is about 2 mm thick unfortunately.

Just returned from my trip around Japan and these are the yarns that I found! And my first Noro!! As soon as I knew we were going, I knew I wanted to get it in Japan.
The stores I visited;
Masuzakiya
Miyake Yarn Shop (3 Chome-18-6 Achi, Kurashiki, Okayama 710-0055, Japan)
Don’t expect your traditional yarn shopping experience at Miyake. It’s a little store run by a sweet old Japanese lady. Small yarn selection, no new brands. Still glad I went :)

I recently ordered the quantity of this yarn recommended by the Happy Camp pattern. Apparently I’ve been letting my floats get too loose and I think I’m going to run out. I’ve got a half skein and just started the first sleeve. Do you happen to have a partial skein that you are willing to part with? I’ve already spent more than I ever have on a sweater. Please help me out if you can!

My mom picked up this yarn for me last year from an estate sale, along with a bunch of other vintage yarns that I was able to ID. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to speak with the seller, so I couldn’t get any info from her about this yarn.
The label says “silkngora” created by Ber-Mel yarns. Presumably this is a blend of silk and angora. It turns to ash when burned. It sheds short white fibers. The dye turns my hands blackish when I touch it, but other than that, it’s in good shape!
I have searched the internet for the past year trying to find more info on this yarn and company. Beyond your standard google/AI searches where I did find this listing for a catalog made by the Ber-mel yarns company in 1936, I’ve searched through the digitized historical records collection from the New York public library, historical records related to textile companies in Philly and other nearby cities, and other databases that might lead me to more info…. And nothing!! The catalog I linked earlier also did not seem to contain a yarn made with presumably silk and angora.
I am so intrigued by the fact that this yarn may be almost 100 years old! I am equally frustrated that I can’t seem to find any records about this darn yarn. I’ve tried searching so many different variations of ber-mel (Bermel, barmel, silkangora, silk and angora, you name it).
Please put me out of my misery and help me find anything about this yarn!!!

My grandmother gifted me 4 hanks of this yarn a while ago but I’ve never used anything like it. What kind of yarn is this? What kinds of things could I make with it?

I think I completed this project either early this year or late last year. At the time I remember thinking it was ugly so I stashed it in my closet and forgot about it. But upon finding it this year with the weather change, I fell in love with it, but can’t seem to figure out what yarn I made it with because I really would like to make a matching hat and scarves for my mom and kids. Most of my stuff is either from Hobby lobby or Michael’s. I suppose there’s a possibility it was from Joann but I don’t think it was that long ago.
It’s a thicker yarn, probably chunky or super chunky and if you look closely, you can see it looks like strands of different colors wound around each other. I think it’s acrylic but I wouldn’t be shocked if it has a little wool in it.
TIA!!

I am counting and marking my stitches as I go, and I am making this hat for my daughter what I cannot figure out is one side is perfectly straight in the other side looks a complete mess. Any ideas as to what I’m doing wrong and why it’s only on one side I’m also working on a blanket and it’s not doing this so I’m not sure what’s going on.

I do not have a business. Nor am I planning to get one.
But I want the wholesaler price of yarn 😭
How can I do that? Can I just sign up as a business and buy it?
I just signed up for this but I’m scared that if I buy the yarn they’ll start expecting back something.
Overall idrk how this works. Pls help. $16 for 100g of cotton yarn is ridiculous.

Hi all, I have this Noro yarn and the label is gone! I've been looking hard for the label but no luck. Any chance anyone can recognise which yarn this is? I'm not fussed about finding out the exact colourway but I'm keen to find out the composition and ply. Thanks!

Things that help with yarn balls. Stop them from getting tangled . I freehanded the light green yarn minder bag. So sorry no pattern but you can make them to fit any ball size you use a lot. They work great for center pull skeins. I use hair clip to secure ends of balls and make balls bands tighter to prevent tangling. the last us a crocheted cup holder that I made but it works well as a ball minder, this would also work great made larger for caked yarns. I use left overs to make these things. The little cup holder takes me like 25 min and the ball bag takes an hour or two.
Please share your ideas too!

I usually use Red Heart or Big Twist for amigurumi fur because they brush out nicely (these are loop stitches, cut and brushed), but I recently chose Loops and Threads Soft Classic because I liked the color Bisque.
Guys and gals, this brushed up SO NICELY!
So, if you're considering a yarn to brush for fluffy ami, this makes surprisingly soft, luscious fur!

Good day! Here are the burn test reasult I got from burning a small piece of a cotton blend I got for a good price. The yarn was black before the burn test. I have some white that is from that lot as well. Would it be better if I use that for the burn test? I'm trying to identify if it's blended with a synthétique or wool. Is there an other test I could do? Parts of the test would stop burning pretty quickly. It's a yarn from a factory surplus promotion from the Canadian Rossy retailer. The only info I have about is cotton blend. The yarn looks and feel like Bernat Handcrafter yarn, but smaller wpi. I just want to know to figure out if I can make the projects I wanted to do with it: sweaters for the whole family. Or if I will have to look into more how cotton works out before I swatch. My goal was to make machine washable sweater with some natural fibers. I forgot cotton will not behave like wool.

Not as lucky price wise as some others on here, but I recently won 5 lots of nice yarn at an auction. It was all kept in plastic bags and plastic bins, so all in immaculate condition. Only downside is there isn't enough yarn of any type or color to make a full sweater and I'm really not into stripes. But, I am looking forward to figuring out what to do with all of it! I sorted it all out into weight categories last night and now have to figure out how to store it.

First crochet project complete, alot to learn and improve but quite proud of myself 😄 I'm not too sure about the quality of different brands etc but I was using Yummy and jelly baby yarn which seemed to come apart and expose the string a bit, is this normal and are there any other brands I could try? :)

I don’t know what to do when the paper belly band gets too big and the yarn doesn’t have anything to hold it together - I end up with scrambled wool everywhere ! What does everyone do? Tips please!

I am trying to knit the Tullip Farm Scarf, but there are not many people who have done it before according to Ravelry... I want to knit it to look more like this Tiktok, where there is just one ball of yarn instead of holding two together, but not sure how to approach it.
