New Moderator Application - Deadline Sunday 08/18

Hello my wonderful humans,

First, we would like to thank you all for contributing and expanding this sub into what it is. We would not be at 11k+ members without you all. Every post and comment has made an impact directly and has helped in spreading awareness about bullying. That said, we are eager to take on a new moderator for the r/bullying sub.

What does this entail?

We are looking for an entry level moderator to keep this a safe space. This would require daily check ins to sift through the modmail and flagging, but we are open to a more senior moderating role as well.

What do you need to submit to apply?

  1. how long have you been a member of the r/bullying sub?
  2. why do you want to help moderate this sub?
  3. do you have any experience moderating on reddit (or platforms such as discord)?
  4. are you looking for an entry level moderating position or do you want to take on more work?
  5. what recommendations do you have for this sub?

Please send your answers directly to us by the end of the week (Sunday August 18th). We will be replying to everyone and will make a decision by mid next week. Thank you all again and we are excited to grow this community more together!

10k Milestone ✨✨👏👏

Hello to all the incredible, brave and beautiful humans here! Thank you all for being a part of this sub and for your vulnerability in sharing your stories and supporting others. We live in a time where there’s more access than ever to opinions and hate so we aim to keep this sub as encouraging as possible to have a place to find community and help. We couldn’t have had this happen without all of you so be proud of yourselves!

A few important updates:

  • Please be sure to check out our discord server! One of our mods has taken the courtesy of creating this to have another outlet to communicate on that is dedicated to this subreddit
  • https://discord.gg/PfKANDA5 Name: Anti-Bullying Server (I am technology inept so look out for a second post or edit here since I likely did not share the server correctly)
  • 10K Milestone also means… we are looking for a new moderator to join our team! Please DM either mod to apply and look out for more updates as the week progresses on the status of applications
  • What to include? 1. Why you want to join 2. How much time you can dedicate (minimum requirement would be to log in 1x a day) 3. Any skills or recommendations you have for our page to boost engagement and provide better resources
  • Please note that this moderator position will start off as an entry mod position so you will only be required to 1. Filter through modmail 2. Review flagged content to begin. If you have moderator experience and you seek a more senior mod role, we can talk about a higher position. We want to start off any newcomers in a easy role to ensure they understand the ins and outs of it all. This is an unpaid position, but it is fulfilling and you can always include it on your resume.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone 🤍

High school bully died, no obit

In high school, Darla* (fake names used) was renowned for having a mean, nasty streak. She would openly ridicule anyone, spread vicious rumors, and most annoyingly, pop other girls bra straps.

She made a powerful enemy in Zia, however. Zia and her boyfriend were the couple who you knew would be married as soon as they graduated.

Darla flapped her mouth one too many times about breaking them up, and Zia caught her after school one day, giving Darla an epic beat down.

After that, it was recommended that Darla change schools, and no one missed her.

I recently got to wondering what had become of Darla, and after some digging, discovered she had died over twenty years ago. No obituary, nor any mention of her when both parents died only a few years ago. Her brothers were mentioned, and the grandparents, but not Darla.

Kinda sad. But then, I recall what a nasty person she was, and I don't feel sad.

Strange.

Feeling like that past is knocking at my door, and I don’t know how to open it

Hello everyone, I’m 25F and I really like my life, I have an amazing boyfriend and we live in our beautiful house and I’m going towards my dreams of years of being a fashion designer, this is my creative passion.

Even though I love my life I still have problems with mental health. I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist with BPD traits and ROCD and HOCD.

Ever since I was little I was very sensitive and spacey and fragile, and I was very vulnerable. I was bullied in the ages 8-14, and I internalized it into the belief I there’s something wrong with me, and feeling very insecure and rejected around people.

I really love myself, I do, I think I’m very sensitive, smart, pretty and very creative, but still I have things I think that is wrong with me and my mind makes worst case scenarios and ocd around things that are important to me.

I’m not thinking about the bullying in my childhood at all, but I dream about it at least every week for years (About me being rejected around people, or me getting revenge and screaming and beating people)

And everytime I feel like someone maybe likely to step on me, I feel furious af and need to control my urges not to yell at them. and most of the times I do, but I feel so much anger in me.

I feel like the dreams and the amount of rage I get in situations where I’m triggered is trying to signal something for me, because I really don’t think about those incidents but I feel like my unconscious self is trying to contact me.

I beat him and I heard what happened to him and I feel bad now

During high school, from freshman to senior year, I was always getting bullied. Not physically, but verbally. This one kid would always call me a frog because I had duck feet and, I guess, walked weirdly.

The thing is, the kid who was always making fun of me was 5'6" and weighed 110 pounds. I wasn't a big kid either. I was tall and skinny, standing at 5'11" and weighing 132 pounds.

The reason I didn't beat him up until my senior year was that I was afraid of what would happen afterward. Even if I beat him up, then what? I would most likely get expelled because my high school was extremely strict. Plus, I didn't want him to get to me. I thought that one day he would stop, but he never did.

My classmates started calling me "frog" too, supposedly as a joke, and this went on for three straight years. I was angry and frustrated, and I honestly didn't know what to do.

During my senior year, he made fun of me again, and for some reason, I got extremely mad. So, I waited until the last day of school, waiting for him to make fun of me again. And he did.

I snapped. I went after him and elbowed him in the temple. He fell to the ground with blood on his face. For some reason, I wanted to humiliate him, so I pulled his pants down. It turned out that he had actually shit himself.

Now, imagine this: the professors walk into a classroom full of teenagers with their phones out, recording everything, and there's a kid with blood on his face and shit all over his sweater and pants.

The professors were extremely mad at me, but they didn't do anything. His parents called the police on me, but since I was only 17, I got away with it.

Fast-forward to the present. I'm 28, and I go back to my hometown to visit an old high school friend of mine. We start sharing stories, and he brings up the kid I beat up.

It turns out that, because of that incident and the humiliation he went through, he couldn't finish college and ended up dropping out. His mother had also died, so he had to take care of his father, who had developed epilepsy. Unfortunately, his father died two years after that he moved out of town.

After hearing all of this, I've been feeling extremely guilty about what happened.

Back then, I never told the teachers what he was saying to me because I thought I would look like a wuss in front of my classmates. I was dumb and arrogant, thinking I had to get justice with my fists instead of handling things another way.

Now, for the past two weeks, I've been feeling extremely guilty about that kid. I keep thinking about what happened and wondering if my actions had a bigger impact on his life than I ever realized.

why do bullies go on to succeed in life?

I had a huge bully during middle-high school who heavily damaged my mental health. He would single me out in public settings and start humiliating me and it was genuinely torture everyday. When I transferred, I was so grateful I finally got out of that hellhole and loved my new school so so much.

Anyway, today, while I was looking through LinkedIn, I saw his profile pop up on my page. I had totally shoved him to the back of my mind so naturally, I was curious. When I clicked on it, I was shocked to see how much he has accomplished -- like, it's genuinely very, very impressive (I'm talking about HYPSM, insane academic research and publications, ironically lots of volunteering work, crazy famous top company internships sort of stuff). Reading his bio for which he acts like your typical super-extroverted "nice guy" who's really passionate about what he does made me so incredibly disgusted. It annoys me to the core with how much he's acting with this "persona" because it's clearly working and getting him to places.

I just hate how much people are buying his persona and how he seems to be cruising through life. I know the general advice to this bitter and frustrated feeling I'm experiencing as a victim is to "just ignore it" and get on with my own life, but I can't help but to feel a strong sense of injustice.

I hate this. Why don't bullies get punished? He's probably forgotten me, but I certainly haven't.

Doxxing incident

Thumbnail drive.google.com
1 Upvotes

My friend got doxxed recently. Let's call her Z.

She got called an attention seeker, and accused of a bunch of mean things, most were just lies. She also got her full name, irl photos, grades, and school address leaked.

She got death threats too.

After investigation, we found out there were 4 doxxers. Apparently one of the doxxers is L. Z's best friend... And is also in the same school as the rest of us.

Now of course, we took it to the teacher.

But after counseling, the teachers for some reason is on L's side. They downplayedownplayed how severe the doxxing is. They even focused on Z's grades for some reason that had NOTHING TO DO with this btw.

So, of course we didn't accept it.

One of my friend, Dolle, you might recognize her for her art. Talked about it. She talked about how unfair it is right?

Well, L found out about it. And told the teachers.

And Dolle got scolded for bringing the problem up again since "It was already solved" And "They were serious about the problem"

And i hate this. I hate this.

Just because Z doesn't do the best at school, (she often fail, skips school, etc)

Doesn't mean it's not a reason for the school to not to pay attention to her problems.

You don't need to be the perfect student just for the school to treat your problems properly.

Curious question

I know many of us have said how the people that bullied us didn't go on to be poor and have no life - they became cops, nurses, etc. (That I and others noticed show zero compassion and abuse their positions without punishment.) My question is, were any of the students that bullied you similar (as in took part in school activities, showing "school spirit", while still being atrocious bullies)?

The reason I ask this is because I knew numerous students like this (was reminded of this when I watched the 2013 Carrie film; I chose to watch this since I don't have Amazon Prime for the new Carrie TV Series).

For example, one bully (whose father was the Guidance Counsellor for the horrendous high school we were in) decided to run for Student President (she did and she won). I remember her joking to her friend, because of her last name, she should make the slogan "Don't be a C*** vote for Hunt!" (She of course lied and denied it when I mentioned it to her.)

Were any of the people bullying you showing "school spirit" and doing things for the school (such as help set up for events, ran for student president, etc.)?

I graduated in 2008; however, the bullies in the schools I attended matched various characters from the various iterations of Carrie. (Because I was basically treated like Carrie White in an atrocious elementary-Jr. High School and horrendous high school, despite not looking like her, my name isn't close to Carrie, I'm not religious, nor did I say anything about menstruation, and the bullies I encountered as an adult admit this without remorse or apologizing and deny, dismiss, or victim-blame instead, I tell them which character from Carrie they're most like and which iteration, either the 1976 film or 2002 film; I don't go to 2013 since we graduated in 2008. This ability shocks the bullies since I was able to correctly match every one of them to a character; I know nobody that matches Tommy Ross though.)

Was anyone else bullied without knowing the reason why?

There was a period of time in my childhood in which I went to girl scouts and all of the girls there just hated me. Whenever i walked into a room they said "Ew it's (Insert my name here)" Just all of them hated me. I didn't know how to tell an adult or even realize what was happening to me was bullying. I just sat there and took it because that was my normal. There was one time when I called one of the girls mean and they all lashed out at me even worse. The girl said "I'm not mean YOU'RE MEAN!" I felt like I was a terrible person and I don't know what it is I did.

Thinking back on this as a 36 year old it still hurts a lot. No one stood up for me. And I'm still left wondering what it is I did.

I don't know how to heal from any of this.

Troubled Childhood- Male- Delhi NCR

Hi, does anyone here feel that they had a troubled Childhood.

I for one had a very troubled Childhood, wherein I was beaten, insulted, humiliated, degraded by my female school teachers so much that I used to fear going to school.

I used to get physically abused, slapped, kneeling down with my nose on the female teacher's feet, sitting in toilet, hitting with duster, ear pulling, hitting with scale, stick being kicked even, teachers used to ask the class monitors to slap me. The teachers used to keep their feet on my back and rest them.

They used to slap me 10-15 times at one go.

I now think that why didn't I raise my voice that time. It has impacted my whole life in a very negative manner. Never told my family about this.

I get traumatized even thinking about it. Keep wondering if I had a normal upbringing and some other school, I would have been a different person today.

I have anxiety issues coz of this, feel under confident.

A few years ago, I was bullied online because of my appearance, and it left me traumatized.

Three or four years ago, I posted photos of myself on an incel forum. They judged me to be ugly and horrible. I read terrible things about myself. I think about it constantly, and I’m traumatized by the experience. I read some really harsh, hurtful, and humiliating comments. Recently, someone recognized me on the forum and rated me a 1/10. I attempted suicide by hanging. All the things I read still haunt me. I think about them all day, even years later. I feel like I’m going to be traumatized for the rest of my life.

Is this just imagination or geniuine bullying?

I've seemingly had this issue with bullying which I'm struggling to know is real or just a result of my terrible mental health making me believe things that are untrue.

As someone on the autism spectrum, I struggle with feeling uncomfortable when trying to sit still over long periods of time. Ill fidget and move frequently in my seat, push hair out my face etc. This often makes me stand out especially in quiet scenarios with the constant movement.

With that said, whenever I'm in college it seems like people are imitating this behaviour. I'm in a class of about 20 people, and it seems like they're copying all of these movements the exact way I would.

I felt like this in the past, but chalked it up to coincidences. I also couldn't find any information or resources noting this as a common form of bullying. I've always been harrassed for being the "weird kid" in school but it was always in a way that would be less subtle than this.

Any help or support would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t forget a bully from decades ago.

It was so embarrassing. We were in middle school, and I was a very shy child. We were doing like a talent show with parents in the audience. I was on stage and played a violin solo. When I finished, I went to sit back down in my front-row chair and the boy behind me pulled my chair and I fell onto the stage floor. I was humiliated sitting on the raised stage in my dress trying to cling to my violin. I have never been able to forget. This was 40 years ago.

I was bullied for years as a child and lost my self-esteem, so now I don't know what to do when people mock, bully, or make fun of me. Will it get better, or for the people who went through something like this, how did you get over it?

Hi!!!

I'm a 16 y/o girl turning 17.

I was so heavily bullied from fifth to sixth grade. I was bullied heavily for my looks, my sexuality, my belief system (I was an atheist, still am) and literally everything by a bunch of boys who were older than me.

I used to be a social child with no social anxiety. But then I turned into an asocial child who freaked out at being the center of attention. It didn't stop there, and I got bullied by 2 to 4 different boys in two different places. I was always mocked and bullied, especially for my looks. In a lot of scenarios, these boys used to make fun of me just to make the other girls (who were my friends) laugh! And sadly, no one stood up for me.

I didn't even realize I was being bullied until these recent years. But I never really got over it, as I literally lost the ability to stand up for myself. Whenever someone mocks or bullies me, I literally cannot do anything except ignore it, leave the situation, and cry it out.

I want to have my self-esteem back and I want to show that they can't bully me or anyone else, but I can't find the power in me. For example, today a boy who is a year younger than me and his friend -who was also one of my bully's best friends and whom I hadn't seen in years-simply made fun of me, laughed at me and humiliated me, and I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even leave; all I did was ignore the things they were saying behind my back (and they knew I could hear them) and simply not respond. Then, after they stepped away for a second, I left the library.

My question for the people who went through bullying or anything like that is: How can I be strong? How can I stand up for myself? Will it ever get better? Or how did yall actually get over this and gain your self esteem back?

💕

Ways to protect yourself from bullying/harassment

Ignore, set boundary, implement boundary , find friend support, seek authority help

And as male when confronted , you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do if all else fails.

Just trying not to overthink this

Bullying is so double standard

I feel like bullying is so double standard when it comes to online bullying. People stand up for the bully but when the other person does it back to them it’s a problem? There was a girl who bullied someone online then when other people did it back to be it’s was a problem and people were saying that just because she did it doesn’t mean we should do it back to her, she could be going through something and it might affect her etc. etc. like why do people care more about a bully than the person who’s the victim of bullying I don’t understand and I think it’s insane.

classmates

From primary school till now I always have problems mixing in with people of the same age group or in the same class as me. All bc I am quiet and nerdy in class and not good at communicating feelings or thoughts verbally doesn’t give them the right to gossip behind my back or exclude me in any other way. I am human and I have feelings too. I don’t think I am victimising myself in anyway and I think it’s just fked up that when people tend to mix in cliques and socialise people who tends to be more introverted or different gets their lower end of the stick, like why. Just because I am not as vocal as them doesn’t give them the right to be verbally socially or emotionally abusive in any way at all. And to think that I have to be the one to see therapy just to be treated for shit that they do. Why must I be the one to be responsible for their crap. Is it wrong for me to want to write all of their names down and lay a hex on them. I’m not psycho…. :(

Someone in the year below keeps calling me names because of something I said months ago. What should I do?

Before the summer holidays, someone in the year below pushed in front of me, and I got angry and said I was going to smash his face in. Looking back, I know that was wrong, and I shouldn’t have threatened him.
Since then, every so often when he sees me at school, whether we’re walking past each other or he comes towards me, he calls me a dickhead. This has been happening on and off since before the summer.

I’ve been ignoring him whenever he does it because I don’t want to start another argument or make the situation worse. However, it genuinely hurts my feelings when he calls me names, and I’m getting fed up with it happening whenever I see him.
I understand that I was in the wrong originally, and I’m not trying to make myself out to be the victim or pretend I did nothing wrong. I just don’t think this needs to carry on forever, especially when I’ve been
leaving him alone.

Part of me wants to approach him calmly, apologise for what I said and ask him to leave it in the past, but I’m worried that might make things awkward or give him another reason to take the piss out of me.
What would you do in my situation? Should I keep ignoring him, speak to him calmly about it, or handle it another way? Has anyone experienced something similar at school?

I’d appreciate some genuine advice because I just want to be able to walk around school without being called names.

It's happening. Shit.

They asked me intrusive ass questions about my girlfriend, my gender, and my sexuality for a whole hour. They call me a furry, and asked me if my girlfriend is a furry (she isn't, and even though I am I would rather not let them know). They talk to me all the time and laugh at the stuff I say, call me autistic, gay, furry, trans, etc View me as disgusting Talk about me behind my back Make fun of my trans name (only a select few know abt my name and some of them laugh at it) Keep on asking me to share my reddit acc (no). Tell me that because I use reddit I must be sad and lonely (half true lol, but it's not their call to make) I hate them, but where can I go? It's a boarding school, can't go home. Shit. I do have a few friends, and one of them is laughed at/treated like a lesser being because she's friends with the "bisexual autistic". Jesus fucking christ give me a break.
