That was my favorite planet, I understand why it is scientifically classified as a dwarf but I have my rights. Pluto has contributed to the solar system thing for long enough she’s important to me. She was my favorite planet as a kid and I felt my heart drop when they stole her title. Clearly loyalty doesn’t mean anything in this day and age. Pluto is and always will be my favorite planet.
I still remember how long a school year used to feel as a kid. Summer vacation felt endless, waiting for a birthday felt like forever, and even a random Friday seemed like something to look forward to.
Now I blink and somehow another year is almost over.
The weirdest part is that nothing necessarily feels wrong. You're studying, working, meeting people, doing normal things. But when you try to remember what actually happened over the last few months, everything feels like one long blur.
Maybe it's just adulthood, or maybe having so much of our lives happen through the same screens makes the days blend together.
Does anyone else genuinely feel this, or is it just me?
Feels like the moment someone gets good at something, people start telling them to monetize it. Can’t we just enjoy being good at something without turning it into work?
Growing up in Malaysia, I sometimes wonder how I'd explain some of our local food to someone who's never tried it.
Take durian, for example. It's a fruit that some people absolutely love, while others think it smells like something that should never be eaten! 😂
And then there's roti canai with dhal or curry; a combination that might sound unusual to someone unfamiliar with it, but makes perfect sense to us.
What's a food from your country that might sound strange to outsiders but is absolutely delicious to you? Tell me what it is and how you'd describe it to someone trying it for the first time!
Sometimes I’ll randomly remember someone I used to be really close with, and for a moment I’ll miss them.
Not necessarily because I want to reconnect or because things ended badly. I just miss who we were back then. The conversations, the stupid jokes, the version of myself that existed around them.
It’s weird because I’m perfectly fine with those people not being part of my life anymore. I wouldn’t even know what to say if we met again.
I guess sometimes you can miss a chapter of your life without wanting to reread it.
Anyone else get that feeling?
My mom tells everyone to buy an InstaPot. She is obsessed with them, and keeps replacing hers with the newest model every time one comes out. She's been doing this for years.
After recently trying one out for the first time myself, I realized she does not at all understand how to use an instapot, and it seems to serve her absolutely no purpose?? She'll put a single potato in there to steam for 45 (forty-five) minutes!! It takes less time to boil them on the stove! You can finish a couple small potatoes in 10 minutes...
Have you known someone like this? Someone who is in love with a product they don't even know how to use?
A couple of weeks ago I posted that I was thinking of shaving my beard. Lots of you suggested that I trim it short instead.
This morning I stepped up to the mirror, fired up my clippers and went to work.
My wife is sleeping so she has no idea of what she'll find when she wakes up. She will either scream, faint or both. She hasn't seen me without my long beard in decades.
Thank you to those who suggested I trim instead of shave. At the time I wasn't thinking that if I shave it off I have to keep shaving every day. I'm too lazy for that!
How’s everyone doing today? I woke up about two hours ago, it’s such a beautiful morning. The rains are finally back here in Kenya, and we’re expecting the El Niño rains soon. I love the fresh air and that smell of rain on dry ground. Although, I have a feeling we might soon be complaining about the very thing we’ve been waiting for .
Anyway, wherever you are in the world, what’s your morning looking like? Or if you’re heading to bed, are you falling asleep to the sound of rain, enjoying a quiet night, or still fighting sleep on your phone?
Ever since 2020, the years have felt like they are going by faster, and I know I’m not the only one experiencing this.
I have researched this question, and I keep getting the same answers: repetitive routines, aging (time feels shorter as you get older), and the fact that not many “new” things have happened since 2020.
Some of these reasons do not apply to me because I was under 10 in 2020, meaning I am still growing and learning, and I am not old at all.
What I’m trying to understand is why someone my age perceives time as passing faster, just as adults do. Are there any other reasons besides the ones I listed?
One more thing: will time ever slow down? I’ve read that practicing mindfulness and spending less time on screens can help, but I don’t mean “time slowing down” for just a few minutes. I mean that I want to go back to the way time felt before 2020 (yes, I remember it).
Is it just me, or are older women genuinely more attractive? There's something about the confidence, the maturity, and the way a woman carries herself that hits different. Curious what other people think about the age gap thing. What's the biggest age difference you've had between you and someone you were attracted to?
When I was little, I saw baby birds hatching from their eggs. I just happened to peer into the nest the moment they were ready to hatch. I saw their little feet push apart the egg shells and their bodies emerge.
I happened to be playing outside with a little bird plushie. I loved birds! He was my imaginary friend. I held him up to the nest and said, "Hi! I'm Chickie. What's your name?" I was hoping the newborn birds would be comforted.
The whole thing really was magical. Sometimes I question whether it was real.
Just wanted to tell someone for no reason whatever that I'm eating my egg noodle Alfredo with chopsticks tonight for no reason other than I saw that I had disposable chopsticks in my drawer 🥢
I feel like cats would be absolutely disrespectful for no reason.
Imagine feeding your cat its favorite food, and it looks you straight in the eyes and says, “That’s it? Bro, I’ve seen homeless pigeons eat better than this.”
Meanwhile, dogs would probably just scream “I LOVE YOU” every 5 minutes. 💀
Which animal do you think would have the worst personality if it could talk?
Ive seen this is true with every single one of my friends, i wonder if anyone else has a different outlook. If growing up, your parents made you feel like you were disgusting, in the process of healing you start thinking what disgusting parents you have. It's kinda cool what they projected onto you gets projected back at them. Their attitude towards you becomes your attitude towards them It's fascinating. For example if parents are nice to their children, help them hand through hardships of life, i think their children would grow up to try to return that behaviour. Am i wrong? Apologies if it's insensitive. But it has been true with everyone ive spoken to so far I'm curious if even 1 person differs in opinion 🩷
Something traumatic happened to me the other night and so I've been unintentionally crashing out on everyone today.
It started this morning when I felt a high anxiety and I've been stressed all day to notice that it's out of character for me and likely trauma based..
I'm drained from the all day crash out and now I've come to repent. I would like to focus on lighter, more positive things.
Hi guys, I want to improve my English, so if you want, feel free to ask or to say anything, I will answer your comments without using a translator, but if you don't understand me only tell me and I will use a translator.
About me: I'm from Mexico, 24 years old, I like to read, drawing, music, workout and I practice some Muay Thai.
My internet went down for a few hours today and I just sat on my couch realizing I completely forgot what people do when there's no TV, phone or laptop. What do you guys actually do to unwind that doesn't involve staring at a glowing rectangle ?
For context, I work at a supermarket, so alot of the time I see many product packages during my work shift. It's funny to come across a brand that states they started in like 1934 or something around that time period and to think about how the original person(s) to start it up thought THEN was the best time to start up a business, yknow, during one of the worst economic time periods in history. I mean good on them for making it and lasting this long, but how could your predecessors have gotten the capital to start that little venture? And they had to have been REALLY lucky to stay afloat during that time as well.
I kinda like to think someone was like:
"Yeah, I know the banks are in ruins and we're all struggling to feed ourselves, but I'm telling ya Jim, I think this is the PERFECT time to get that hot sauce business off the ground!"
I'm kind of a person who enjoys a very deep and orchestrated conversation which revolves around the various aspects of life, starting from the minor changes that our eyes tend to notice to deep down what our alter ego says to ourselves. Apart from it I have found it very difficult to have someone in my life who can really reconcile my thoughts and have a great convo with.
Maybe this isn’t the right place to post this, but idk where else to go. 😭
So, I was in a certain mood and looking up some very personal things on Google when his message popped up. I read it from the notification and ignored it because I was busy typing.
I hit enter. Nothing happened. Strange.
So I retyped the whole thing and hit enter again. And then it hit me. OH. MY. GOD. DID I JUST SEND THAT SOMEWHERE ELSE?
I opened his chat, and there it was. Blue tick and everything. 💀
I deleted it immediately and screamed into my pillow for a solid two minutes. Then I ChatGPT-ed my way out of the situation and sent “wrong chat, pls ignore” as casually as humanly possible, as if my heart wasn’t doing Olympic-level gymnastics.
He hasn’t messaged me since, and it’s SO DAMN AWKWARD. I’m also terrified he might have taken a screenshot or told someone about it.
How do you recover from something like this? Asking for someone who would very much like to change her identity and move to another country. 🥲
For example, certain cultures can be very subscribed to the idea of men and women not being able to maintain a platonic relationship. Some normalise the idea of cutting off exes when you enter a new relationship, and plenty are a lot less rigid or strict about any of the above. Why do you think these differences arise and what are your personal opinions on them?
