Since the last post about this got deleted because it contained a X screenshot, hopefully this one actually stays for comment.

All the sports betting ads, ED ads, pharma ads, the Hegseth fascist military ads, the unhinged political ads, it’s all fucking enough already.

EDIT: I'm glad we can all agree on something, flairs notwithstanding.

Man, those war ads are so weird. And we’re playing for it.

The fact that there is a war.gov website is kind of disturbing.

Why is that disturbing?

Edit: why downvoted for asking such a vanilla question?

Because we shouldn’t seek out war…

I don’t see how that follows? Bulk of the resources are spent on preparation/defense/deterrence of war

Huh, maybe they should change the name to the Department of Defense then

dank red herring. Thankfully was able to find a genuine articulate answer from someone

Defense? Would it be defense if I sat in your yard & prevented you from bringing groceries home & then shot at you when you tried to get past me? When was the last time the US actually defended itself from aggression vs being the aggressor.

Red herring, bad faith. Thankfully found one articulate redditor willing to answer a simple question

Bulk of the resources are spent on preparation/defense/deterrence of war

Then why did they change the name from Department of Defense to Department of War?

Because the insecure manchild running that department thought it sounds "tough".

Seriously, almost every single thing Hegseth does is the actions of a deeply insecure individual, who makes policy based on performative toughness.

It hasn't officially changed. It was the war department until after WWII, when it was renamed DOD.

Well, the commercial straight up says "Paid for by the Department of War" on it.

2

u/Opening-Bandicoot859 New York Mets 11h ago

I understand, but officially, it's still the DOD. Changing it officially would require an act of Congress.

Red herring, not the point under discussion. Thankfully I found one commenter that was able to articulate an actual response

i dont think you know what red herring means. you keep using it wrong

0

u/sentry_chad Kansas City Royals 10h ago

Then explain why it's wrong (you can't)

u/Galxloni2 Chunichi Dragons 10h ago

They aren't changing the point or distracting from the discussion. The point was why the name department of war was bad. Your argument was that they defend against war and these people are making the point that department of defense fits that way better. It's entirely the point of the discussion. You just dont like the response

Wrong

Wrong

Please improve reading comprehension if you're going to try correct someone's identification of rhetorical devices

No it's not wrong. You just think you are a genius when everyone can read what you wrote.

It started with war.gov is disturbing. You responded with "how is it disturbing?" They then responded that we shouldn't be seeking it war. And you said they spend most of their resources preparing for/ deferring war. Then you kept calling it a red herring when people pointed out that department of defense does that better.

Because it gives the impression that we are a country that is seeking to go to war. When a new soldier enlists in the armed forces, I'd prefer they do it with the intention and mindset of defending our country (aka the Department of Defense), as opposed to seeking out war against others.

Fair enough. That’s not my interpretation , but I see what you’re saying here

6

u/IndycarFan65 Milwaukee Brewers 12h ago

Then what is your interpretation?

To me it's just descriptive, it's the department dealing with war related activities
