Been working in a pub for a bit and it’s fairly common that people (tends to be older men, dunno if that’s relevant) will pay for 2/3 pints at once and then only get one, come back and get the others later.

I don’t get it. It’s not easier, it actually makes life more difficult explaining to a different member of staff you’ve paid already, checking tills and receipts. It’s not cheaper, these people tend to get the same thing in the same amounts so it’s not like it’s to keep spends down, you’ve still got to wait and explain what you want, the only difference is a 0.7 second time save from not tapping your card again.

I get it when they’re leaving it for someone else, but when it’s a busy evening and you’ll be back in 20 minutes anyway? Why? Is it to feel ‘part of’ something? Is it to flex your status as a regular? Is it a weird attempt
to trick yourself into thinking it’s free? I can’t see the point of it at all and it annoys me that people seem to just like adding faff to everything.

I just checked my last bill and found I'm just over £5000 in credit. Looks like I'll be able to turn the heating on for Christmas. Although I'll obviously turn it off on boxing day. I don't want to go into debt.

I was going to ask the 3D printer community, but this is not a purely printed project, I assume there will be some other fabrication and assembly, possibly without actual printing at all.

It's something I may try as a retirement project, but if it's already been done, I will have a guide as to what to do or avoid.

So this has been happening ever since I moved in nearly a year ago, and it only happens in and when I walk into my bedroom, after a couple mins, day and night. It sounds like a tiny silver bell being rung around twice, similar to what you’d hear on a cat’s collar if they shook their head.

It’s very clear sounding and doesn’t sound like it’s coming from behind the walls at all.

It’s only ever coming from the ceiling, and not even from a single place. It’ll happen 2/3 times after I enter my bedroom within anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 mins. Sometimes it’ll happen when I’ve been in my room for a while too.

One of my friends has heard it but they had no idea what it could be either.

It doesn’t sound like pipes or anything like that. It doesn’t ALWAYS happen, but most of the time it does.

Context that may be useful is that I live in a converted 3 story Victorian house, split into flats. I’m on the top floor, where servants quarters used to be. I only mention this because I know they used to use bells through the house. But my bedroom is in the corner of the house, far away from the kitchen or any central point where the bells would have been.

I have been in the loft a bunch of times, nothing out the ordinary there, nobody is living there. And the loft door has a bolt on it.

Edit: fire alarm has been recently changed and is part of a fully wired system.

I feel like I'd go for science. But I'd have to start at Year 7. I passed years ago but wish I'd tried harder at it.

I see these bins everywhere now, I think it has become a legal requirement but I might be wrong. The problem is, no one seems to use them as intended. Yes recycling should be encouraged but I feel like this is just overcomplicating something simple.

Is this environmental progress? or just the appearance of progress?

Was at a wedding this weekend and it was lovely, but it got me thinking that the whole thing is ripe for some comedian to ruin by trying to make a joke at the wrong moment.

We had all went on the quintessential "lads holiday". Listened to his countless stories of wooing women and expected him to at least try. In the clubs in said party island, he shriveled. Then the one and only time he was physically alone with a woman was when he walked her to a telephone box (showing my age) and then claimed he had done the deed with her in the telephone box...

Hi. Ive been living in this flat 2 years now and probably once or twice a month we get a delivery driver buzzing the door saying theyve got a delivery for us (usually mcdonalds etc). I know now that theyve got the wrong address as its happened so many times (addresses are very similar so i guess they just assume its the first one that comes up).

People make mistakes whatever so it hasnt really been an issue however now we have a small baby who gets waken up at 9pm by the buzzer for food we didnt even order which is more than frustrating as any parent can imagine... and it takes forever to put her back to sleep 🫠🫩

What would you do? Would you start taking the orders so the drivers would start to be more cautious? Would you go knock on the persons door who keeps ordering the food? Can you contact someone? Is there anything that can be done??? Its really starting to annoy me

My local council jobs page is full of part time jobs, from as little as 10 hours a week. They often demand serious experience and pay around 30k pro rata.

I'm kinda lost on what the demographic going for these jobs is?

Not recent graduates because they require experience. They're often not flexible so not parents working around their children. Possibly retired people looking to do a little bit of work?

For me it's forks, knives, then spoons, and of course teaspoons on the bottom horizontal compartment. Imo you wanna line em up in the order you eat with, which is forks, knives, then spoons. I will not accept any other reason

I was thinking about this the other day and it stuck, I feel pretty worn out after every day of work. Some weeks are a bit better than others but I feel like everyday from around 3pm-6pm is a PUSH. When I have weekend heavy plans- I get more and more burnt out with no time to recover.

I’m fairly young and new to my industry and I was wondering how common it is to feel so tired by work each day? Is it a given for everyone?

What proportion of the population finds their work easy to manage? Or is this just normal?

I also hear of some people working from home and just sending an email or two a day! I’m wondering how varied it is. (Also thinking of this in terms of how tired people actually feel, so more thinking about stamina rather than just work load).

(Luckily I really enjoy my work so my motivation is there! But it’s hard rn)

I'm moving from Sheffield to London so it's quite a big move but I don't have a lot of items and no furnitures at all. I can probably fit all of my stuff in a regular car but the problem is I can't drive (yet). Don't have any family to help out and I feel bad to ask my friends for such a big favour.

I could potentially go back and forth on trains and move everything in maybe three trips, but it's gonna be really tiring. Should I just go for man and van? It just feels quite spenny given how few things I own.

How do you manage your diary?

I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit but I'm in the UK and I have questions!

My partner and I are both pretty busy (possibly too busy), and I'm curious how other people keep track of their lives.

We have a shared Google Calendar for anything we're doing together, or things the other person needs to know about (e.g. "NoEggplant619 away this weekend").

Then we each have our own personal calendars for appointments, reminders and things that don't involve the other person. On top of that, there's the work calendar, which also gets invites for personal appointments like the dentist, so we don't accidentally book meetings over them.

Writing all this out, I'm starting to wonder whether we've massively overcomplicated things.

At the other end of the spectrum, we have a friend who regularly double- or even triple-books himself. We asked him whether he uses a calendar app, and apparently his entire diary management system consists of searching WhatsApp for a particular day or date to find out what he's agreed to do. Which sounds like absolute chaos to me.

So now I'm curious. How does everyone else manage their diary? Shared calendars? Multiple calendars? One enormous calendar containing every aspect of your existence? A paper diary? Or do you just rely on memory and hope for the best?

What's normal? And are we ridiculously organised, or is our friend a menace to scheduling?

Ive been scrolling on Vinted a lot recently and I always see Vintage Y2K items for sale. It made me think what happened to cool street wear? I get that as the years and decades go on fashion changes with the times but I fear we have gone backwards?

The patterns and colours, funky footwear, the relaxed feel of wearing a simple pair of jeans and a top yet still looking stylish, where did it all go wrong? Everyone seems to be sheep following micro trends, where’s the originality?

32yo guy here. Engaged. Live in a mid sized UK city. Pretty normal guy with a decent job (although it’s a lot of lone working).

Me and my fiancé have started to plan our wedding and our invite list. What has become obvious is that my social circle is tiny. I think I’ve lived my social life through her for a while now, we met shortly after university, so a lot of the mates I had at Uni moved to other cities. I have a close mate that I’ve had since childhood, so I’ve got a best man sorted. But that’s about it.

I‘ve never really thought about it until now. Is it normal for a bloke my age to have so few mates?

Anybody been through a similar situation and made new mates? It just seems a lot easier for women than men.

And no, I’m not joining a running club, which is what everyone seems to suggest 😂

Looking for advice from anyone with experience of this.

We live in a block of flats. This morning the flat directly below us was treated by pest control for silverfish and nobody told us. A new tenant had just moved in below, so when my wife noticed a paint like smell in the morning, we assumed the landlord was doing maintenance. We carried on as normal and gave our kids (11 months and 2 years old) breakfast.

The smell got stronger and I then noticed a van outside and a man going in and out with a spray unit. I googled the company name and found out it was pest control.

The block has a shared vent/extraction system. We regularly smell cooking, candles and air freshener from the flat below coming through the extractor fans in every room, especially the kitchen and bathroom. So fumes were clearly travelling up to us.

I went downstairs. The tenant had already left. I spoke to the fumigation technician, who checked with his manager, and was told that if we could smell even a little, we should leave the flat for a few hours. We left immediately, but by then we'd been in the flat for about 2 hours without knowing what it was. I also contacted the landlord's management company, who didn't know what was going on and were no help.

My kids and my breastfeeding wife breathed this in and I'm really worried and angry.

I (28M) have recently purchased my first house.

This has led to a lot of self-reflection, specifically looking at the last 10 years of my life, and things I would tell myself if I could go back, or things I’d have done differently if I could.

This got me thinking, this will most likely occur again in my 40s/50s/60s and beyond, and therefore I thought who better to ask than the people of Reddit!

What do you know now that you wish you'd known in your late 20s?

Me and my friends were talking about different things we did in school. We all remember that sometimes, for P.E, we did “chair dancing”.

For context, we went to an all girls catholic school.

It wasn’t provocative or anything, but we wondered if people from other schools did anything similar, because I’ve truthfully never heard of it, in a school.

We would literally just use it as a prop to dance… which retrospectively, was fucking strange.

I was away from home on Friday evening & saw on my home security camera a man loitering around my house & looking through my bin & other storage boxes I have. He left, then 10 minutes later came back again & did the same. I felt sick, worrying that my cat was home alone & that he’d attempt to get inside overnight. I couldn’t get home until the next morning.

I was initially horrified I couldn’t get back to protect my home/cat but then it dawned on me, if I WAS home, what would I actually do? I’m a single female in her early 40s. How would I actually protect myself against a young male determined to harm/enter?

After a brief research we legally cannot have ANY item that’s purposely used to protect ourselves in our own home. I am just utterly baffled by this! Is there anything that could be used (a grey area)?

Was talking to neighbour about something that happened 'the other day' and wife interjected to say 'that was two months ago!'. In my mind 'the other day' just means any day in the recent past. So, how far back is 'the other day'?
