I'm setting up a used iPhone 15 for my aunt, which she received from her daughter. I can't get past the "Apple Account" screen because I can't access the fields for the Apple ID and password. I suspect there's a bug in the iOS interface.
Background
• Using iTunes on Windows 11 (both Windows and iTunes are up to date), I created a backup of my aunt’s iPhone 12.
• I restored this backup to the iPhone 15 via iTunes and updated the device to iOS 27.0.1 via iTunes. Both processes completed without any error messages.
• Afterward, the iPhone displayed “Software Update Complete” (Photo 1). I tapped “Continue.”
The Problem
The “Apple Account” screen appears next (Photo 2). I have the login credentials, but I can’t access the input fields:
• All that’s visible is a gray informational text, the blue link “How your data is managed…,” and the “Continue” and “Use another device to sign in” buttons.
• “Continue” is grayed out.
• The text area cannot be scrolled; swiping has no effect. If I tap inside the text area, only the privacy policy or other fine print opens.
• “Use a different device to sign in” responds to touch, but nothing happens afterward.
• The touchscreen works normally otherwise; it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue. It’s likely due to the iOS user interface.
What I already know or have tried
• A thread in the Apple Community titled “Use a Different Device to Sign In Doesn’t Work” states that the screen is split into two sections: the top section can be scrolled, and that’s where the Apple ID and password fields appear. For me, this section cannot be scrolled.
• I can’t reset the iPhone again via iTunes: iTunes requires me to disable “Find My” first. I can’t do that without signing in to my Apple ID first on the iPhone 15. When deactivating „Find My“ on the Old phone, it also doesn’t work.
• There doesn’t seem to be an activation lock: Activation, backup, and update all went smoothly, and no related message appears. I can’t explain why iTunes still mentions “Find My.”
• Restarting the iPhone 12 and keeping it nearby with Bluetooth turned on didn’t work either.
