Discussion Fine I'll say it. Space Marine chapters without gene flaws ruin like 50% of the reason to get into Space Marines.
If there was ever a spice for SM it's their gene flaws. No matter what you do, you gotta have it. As Primarus marines prove, just because you have the same geneseed doesn't mean you have the same culture. Homebrew or Official, geneseed should atleast have some smudges. Simply because the source of their super human nature making them incredibly inhuman is just good story telling. Whoever at GW who thought of geneseed flaws was cooking and whoever decided the most famous, effective and shoved down our throats groups of marines should have totally stable geneseed with no flaws at all should be taken out back and shot. Regardless of if it was the same person.
If anything, it'd make more sense to write less noteworthy chapters has having stable geneseed because that could be their thing. "We're not ultramarines but out geneseed is very stable!" kind of stuff.
While Chaos should've totally given up on trying to have stable geneseed on the other had. A huge part of chaos is mutations so why not lean into that with the traitor geneseeds? Imagine if Black Legion actually had tar black skin. It could go along way to explain why people are weirded out by Salamanders. Chaos geneseed is so shockingly mundane and stable somehow and it's just weird. Give me Iron Warriors with metal skin, Thousand Son's who bleed mana, and/or World Eaters with an unhealthy passion for eating dirt.
Geneseed should be seen as a way to do cool shit with Marines not used to nerf them like it's used 90% of the time.
