Question Healthy food options open late?

• Upvotes

Hi, just wondering if we have any healthy food options open past 10:30 pm? I get off work late and the only food places open it seems like aren’t the most healthy. And most grocery stores are closed

Saanich: How important is it to have an independent Council vs a Slate?

• Upvotes

I'm curious about people's views on independent candidates and municipal slates, and how they affect democracy and governance. Thanks, Colette Baty

Anything made you smile during municipal election cycle?

This municipal election cycle felt pretty tense. Just wondering if there was anything that made you smile that wasn’t related to all the usual campaign noise. Something silly, maybe even juvenile.

For me it was a “Vote for Plant” sign right across the street from the HCP Gardens entrance. If it was intentional, it was genius.

Smart car with soft top - car cover ? Advice pls

Hi, question for anyone who has a smart car with a soft top, and parks outside.

How has this gone for you in terms of weathering over time?
Do you use a cover?
And if so, do you recommend your brand?

I am thinking a half cover would be smart to protect the top, but want to be sure I buy the right type — with Victoria weather, I wouldn’t want it to trap moisture.

(Ideally I would prefer a regular top, but this is what has worked out for me, and I am happy nonetheless)

Thank you !

Event Anyone want two tickets to The Odyssey at IMAX for tonight?

I have two tickets to tonight’s showing of The Odyssey at IMAX at 7:15pm. I can no longer make it and don’t want them to go to waste! They’re decent seats too .. row J which is near the top/back and not in the front/closest to the screen.

Edit: tickets have been claimed!

What's Happening? Victoria: Last Day for advanced voting at Crystal Gardens! (Municipal elections)

If you can't make it this Saturday (Oct 17th) to vote in municipal elections, then consider going to the advanced voting! It's easy and efficient!

🗓 When: Thursday Oct 15th

🕐 Time: 8AM-8PM

🔎Where: Crystal Gardens, 713 Douglas St (just across the street from the Empress/Victoria Conference Centre)

You need: Two pieces of ID to register to vote (on site), one of which must include your signature. You can find examples of valid identity documents on the city’s website.

You can vote in Victoria if you are: a Canadian citizen, 18 or older, a BC resident for at least six months, and a resident of the City of Victoria. You can vote on these days!

I'm looking for a quality local, or BC, or even Canadian dry herb glass pipe maker. The local stores used to have such good supply, but not so much anymore.

Thank you!

Politics Political views aside, can we all agree that municipal slates are garbage?

Like, older conservative Saanich residents, let me spin my chair and my baseball cap backwards and sit down for some real talk with you for a sec. You don't like me building skyscrapers next to your house so that young people have place to live, and I don't like you pretending to care about individual mature trees so that things can stay exactly the same.

But can we set that aside for a moment, and agree that the concept of having a slate of candidates is garbage?

It insults your intelligence first of all, by asking you to just vote for a brand rather than for each individual who best represents you.

It reduces your choice, because everyone in the slate makes the same ambiguous promises, so they're functionally interchangeable.

Finally, you don't need to vote for them because there are alternatives that represent you. Karen Harper isn't on the Save Our Saanich slate, but she ain't no progressive, she'd represent your older homeowner interests just fine. Same with council, there are plenty of non-slate candidates opposed to development, opposed to bike lanes, opposed to all the same things you oppose.

Can we all please agree that slates suck, and make it known with our votes on voting day so that no one tries it again the next time around?

I’ve not seen info on the trustees running - any pointers?

Hello Victoria,
I haven’t seen much about the school trustees running. Is there a place like the mayor/councillor website to read up on them?

I moved here after the previous scandal and don’t know much about it besides the very gist of something to do with police in schools. Hoping to learn more and make a smart choice. Thanks

Event Slow burn dating

I'm curious if anyone has been to one of these events and what their insights might be. Google just reminded me that I have a ticket for next week and I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Are there games or group activities planned? Is it just a solo mission? What's the flow and facilitation like? Should I just take up knitting cat outfits and give up on dating?
