for my girls who get their nails done in the victoria area...I'm tired of my nail art designs not looking good every time I go😭 I need recommendations

The title speaks for itself...I need someone who can do real, good quality nail art! Wherever I go it never turns out how I showed them in the picture, and it usually ends up looking like I could have done it better myself or like a kid did it😭

Readhead Voter?

The man behind me at the UVic voting station when asked if he was voting in Saanich or Victoria he answered that he was a "readhead voter" and could "vote anywhere but not for school board trustees" What is that about?

Question Born in the U.S., raised in Canada, and just realized I may have U.S. tax filing obligations. Where do I even start?

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for some advice because I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.
I was born in the U.S. but have lived in Canada most of my life. I previously lived in Ontario and moved to BC about three years ago. Until recently, I had no idea that I might have U.S. tax filing obligations.
I’ve tried talking to my parents, but they weren’t aware of this either and keep telling me I don’t need to worry about it. I’m now confused about what actually applies to me, especially since I may have missed previous filing years.

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction:
-Where should I start?
-What documents or information should I gather?
-Are there any reliable tax professionals in BC who specialize in U.S. taxes for Canadians?
-If I’ve missed previous years, what are my options?

I’m not trying to avoid anything; I genuinely didn’t know and just want to figure out how to handle this properly. Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Politics Political views aside, can we all agree that municipal slates are garbage?

Like, older conservative Saanich residents, let me spin my chair and my baseball cap backwards and sit down for some real talk with you for a sec. You don't like me building skyscrapers next to your house so that young people have place to live, and I don't like you pretending to care about individual mature trees so that things can stay exactly the same.

But can we set that aside for a moment, and agree that the concept of having a slate of candidates is garbage?

It insults your intelligence first of all, by asking you to just vote for a brand rather than for each individual who best represents you.

It reduces your choice, because everyone in the slate makes the same ambiguous promises, so they're functionally interchangeable.

Finally, you don't need to vote for them because there are alternatives that represent you. Karen Harper isn't on the Save Our Saanich slate, but she ain't no progressive, she'd represent your older homeowner interests just fine. Same with council, there are plenty of non-slate candidates opposed to development, opposed to bike lanes, opposed to all the same things you oppose.

Can we all please agree that slates suck, and make it known with our votes on voting day so that no one tries it again the next time around?

Yarrow PSC

Has anyone had blood taken at yarrow life labs?

How was your experience? How long was the wait for walk-in?

Edit: I should have clarified I need to get this panel done ASAP and can’t book time off work to get to the further locations with availability, so booking an appointment is not an option:/

Sorry anglos this isnt for you.

Hello BC Disc Golfers

I have some freetime in my travels with my wife to get in a round of disc golf tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. I was wondering if any locals can show this hucker the way around Millstream Disc Golf Course.

I know there are better courses further up north on the island, but my time is somewhat limited. Also, I will have to be done by 4pm, so Mary's Farm is also off the table.

Smart car with soft top - car cover ? Advice pls

Hi, question for anyone who has a smart car with a soft top, and parks outside.

How has this gone for you in terms of weathering over time?
Do you use a cover?
And if so, do you recommend your brand?

I am thinking a half cover would be smart to protect the top, but want to be sure I buy the right type — with Victoria weather, I wouldn’t want it to trap moisture.

(Ideally I would prefer a regular top, but this is what has worked out for me, and I am happy nonetheless)

Thank you !

It's one of the only things going on in Victoria this Halloween. I have never been there before and just wondering if it's worth it.

Saanich: How important is it to have an independent Council vs a Slate?

I'm curious about people's views on independent candidates and municipal slates, and how they affect democracy and governance. Thanks, Colette Baty

I’ve not seen info on the trustees running - any pointers?

Hello Victoria,
I haven’t seen much about the school trustees running. Is there a place like the mayor/councillor website to read up on them?

I moved here after the previous scandal and don’t know much about it besides the very gist of something to do with police in schools. Hoping to learn more and make a smart choice. Thanks

Event Slow burn dating

I'm curious if anyone has been to one of these events and what their insights might be. Google just reminded me that I have a ticket for next week and I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Are there games or group activities planned? Is it just a solo mission? What's the flow and facilitation like? Should I just take up knitting cat outfits and give up on dating?
