Suggestion New display cases: “Best Friend”, “Close Friends”

The idea came to me while I was customizing my profile and wanted to find a way to highlight my close friends on it. So, please take a look.

The “Best Friend” showcase will include the following information: avatar and username, and the date the friendship began. The showcase will have 3 upgrade levels using Steam Points, and the following features will become available: the last game played with the user, favorite games played together, and a personal description.

The “Close Friends” showcase will allow you to feature 2–3 users per level (2–3 on the first level, 6–9 on the third), and will include the following information: the user’s avatar and username, along with either your favorite (one) game you’ve played together or a short note (10–20 characters).

In theory, it would also be possible to do something in between: one friend per level would be displayed in the showcase (1 on the first level, 3 on the third), along with the following information: avatar and username, the date the friendship began, the last game played together, the favorite game played together, and a short description (optional).

In my opinion, these showcases will greatly expand the options for customizing profiles and allow users to show their friends that they truly matter to them

P.S. Please excuse any mistakes in the text; I used a translator to write this because my English isn't very good T_T

Discussion Am I in the wrong here?

A few months ago me and another developer listed a game on steam, under his Steam Partner Account. We paid the 100USD fee to list the game, and then have worked on the game since.

Now, almost 12 months later, the other developer no longer has time to work on the game and wants to transfer the App Listing to me.

I need to create a Steam Partner Account in order to accept the transfer, but part of the onboarding is to create your first listing and thus pay the 100USD fee. This is stated in the Steam Documentation under "appfee" as

Whether you are completing the Steam Direct signup process or are already an established Steamworks developer, you can now simply pay a $100 USD (or equivalent) fee for each new app you wish to distribute on Steam. Read below for details on how it works.

https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/gettingstarted/appfee

It states that the fee must be paid for each NEW app that you wish to distribute. This is totally understandable.

However, in this case I have no intention to create a new app listing, I am only making the account to transfer the management of an app that we already paid for. I don't understand why I should have to pay again for a second listing, if I don't intend on having a second listing.

I tried to contact support about this, hoping they would understand the situation, and allow us to simply move the ownership of the listing to a different account, so I can have access. However they came back with the following:

The initial fee is meant to cover the costs we incur in setting up and maintaining the partner account. You'll need to pay this fee to continue onboarding.

Then when I questioned why this made sense, and linked the Docs not mentioning anything about an account setup fee, I got this response, from a different support user:

We can't help with this. Setting up a new partner account requires paying an onboarding fee.

Am I in the wrong here for asking that the app simply gets transferred to a different account? Or have have severely misunderstood the situation, and need to accept the fee. As an indie developer, I don't just have another 100USD lying around to pay for a steam listing that I already paid for.

Discussion My friend got sentenced to 15 years in prison. His Steam account is still on my friends list.

Okay so.. this happened in the middle east.. and just to clarify i write everything bin my own words and asked ai to help me write clearly as my writing sucks ...

So, I had this friend who was genuinely one of my best friends at one point.

We used to hang out all the time. We'd go cruising around in my car or his, grab something to eat late at night, talk about random stuff, then head back home and play CS:GO or Rust together.

Just normal things friends do.

But over time, he started going down the wrong path in life. He got involved with drugs and started making some really bad decisions.

And I tried so hard to help him change his life.

I'd talk to him, try to get him to see where things were heading, and do whatever I could to get him away from that lifestyle. I even warned his older brother because I was genuinely worried about him.

But no matter how hard I tried, nothing seemed to change.

Eventually, I started distancing myself from him.

Whenever he'd ask to hang out, I'd tell him I was busy or that we'd meet another time. I never actually told him I was avoiding him.

I didn't hate him. He was still my friend, and I never considered him an enemy. I just didn't want to get dragged into that lifestyle or end up in trouble myself.

And honestly, I didn't know what else to do anymore.

Much later, I found out he'd been arrested for something drug-related and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

15 years.

Now, every once in a while, I'll log into Steam and scroll through my friends list, and there he is.

Last online over 3 years ago.

And it makes me sad.

I remember us just driving around, laughing about stupid things, grabbing food late at night, and playing games until we got tired.

And now he's somewhere in prison.

Sometimes I wonder how he's doing. I really hope he's okay.

It also makes me think about my own life and how I never want to end up in trouble or put myself in a situation like that.

But there's something else I keep thinking about.

In about 12 years, when he's finally out, will he ever log back into Steam?

Will he see my username and remember all those nights we spent playing CS:GO and Rust?

Or will I just be some random person on his friends list that he barely remembers?

Imagine getting a message 12 years from now saying, "Hey bro, remember me?"

I honestly don't know how I'd react.

I don't even know if I'd want to reconnect. But I do know that I hope he's okay, and I hope that when he eventually gets out, he gets another chance at life and makes something good out of it.

It's strange how seeing someone's name on a Steam friends list can bring back so many memories.

I knew his whole family.. dad brothers sister and his mother..

I guess I just wanted to share this because it's been on my mind for a while.

Discussion What's the deal with the new Workshop manual review policy?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Right now, any mod submitted, and any mod updated seems to need to go through a manual review process... which is taking like a crazy amount of time.
Mod creators have been waiting for multiple days to get their mod's updated.

This is especially a problem because the Bannerlord devs love to push out updates that break everyone's code and force them to refactor by shuffling around stuff in the game's DLLs.
It also sucks for multiplayer, because many communities do weekly events where the mod needs to be updated to have new maps and items added.

Some people are on day 3 of waiting for the manual review, not even for a new mod, just for an update on their existing mod.
Which is crazy because Nexus Mods will scan through suspicious mods in a few hours at most.

Right now that test mod I submitted that is requiring a manual review is literally just an armor asset, and the accompanying xml file to that adds it to the game. There is not even a single DLL in the mod I just submitted to get this screenshot, yet it's requiring a manual review.

Question Battlefield 6 is available on EA Play and Game Pass, but not on Steam?

I purchased EA Play through Steam specifically to play Battlefield 6, which released today (October 13). However, the game is showing up on the EA app and Xbox app/Game Pass, but it’s still not appearing on Steam. Is this just a launch-day delay on Steam or is there some other reason for this? Since I bought EA Play through Steam, I expected to be able to download and play it directly through Steam. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Discussion I’m going to try playing every game in my Steam library

Been thinking about challenging myself to play every single game I own on Steam. Not finish them (dear lord), but at the very least give each one a fair shot. Maybe a couple of hours.

I assume that like most of you, I bought way too many games during every Steam sales that I’ve never even launched. 😬

Figured it might be fun to finally see what I’ve been collecting all these years. 😂

I’m expecting (hoping) a few gems, some questionable purchases, and probably a reminder that Past Me had, and still may have 😂, terrible impulse control during Steam sales.

Wish me luck!

Question wondering about what happens to marked private games after being refunded

Does refunding a privately purchased game make it public or does my playtime or other stats can be seen as activity or in my profile? (for example: achievements I unlocked, total hours played, date i bought, date i first played, my review)

Asking this because when I browse the store I can see my friends profile pictures as '# friends have played this game:' at the game page. whether this applies to also refunded games

Discussion VAC Bans are a bad, ineffective system and a blight on an otherwise fantastic company.

VAC bans being permanent is pointless and reflects poorly on Steam. People who are allergic to grass and afraid of the sun might tell you once a cheater always a cheater, but cheating is worse than ever and if somebody has a single VAC ban clearly they arent the ones doing the cheating. Having a perpetual zero tolerance policy than only applies to a single game and just applies a red line of shame only the account owner can see doesn't actually do anything to reduce cheating. I think 5 years after a ban is issued when it would normally become invisible the red text should be exchanged for a 2nd chance community badge. 2 chances only. Especially with the new ai system issuing timeouts for people who in the past would have been banned outright. Ban stays visible but the tone changes. Better for the community.

Just stacking my steam profile with some cheap stuff and forget about its existence, and then complain when I don't want to play them.

I even created a new collection called "Pit" just for fun.

Resolved What to do if you have games installed but it asks you to install again

My guess is you deleted your steam and reinstalled or u changed disk or whatever.

You can try a bunch of this off youtube tutorial and still doesnt work so try this

  1. Find the folder which you have all the games installed
  2. Merge that folder into the folder being used by steam
  3. Then just press install on your games

Instead of actually installing the game its going to validate/verify that the games are already installed. If you still see it installing, its likely your old game storage + some updated version. Just let it update.

However if it starts installing from scratch, ggs try the yt tutorial methods.

Why merge? Because steam wont let you use a folder that is not empty. So you have to merge your old folder with the new steam folder that is being used. Good luck
