Sidebar, I love how goofy the JOFA helmet looks. And the leaderboard looks super boring right now only because we’ve had no repeat wins yet.

My take is when you play bad as a team and still beat a team you should beat then that is a positive development. In years past yesterday's game would have resulted in a loss once they tied the game up. As I said before, I'm not predicting the Stanley cup but I am saying the team shows improvement

This is my first season as an STM and am curious about this Las Vegas road trip experience. The email was short on details. Have they done something similar in the past, and if so, can someone who went share their experience? Is it just a matter of meeting up there and we all have seats in one particular spot, and that's it?

In a recent John Forslund appreciation post, someone linked to a years-old thread cataloguing his great lines. Within that thread someone* brilliantly made a bingo card for Forslund's calls. Unfortunately, being several years old, it contained a number of nicknames for players who are no longer on the roster.

So, I created an updated (and hopefully timeless) version! Then, since Forslund also regularly calls national broadcast games, I made a generic version without any team-specific references. Here, for your entertainment:

Both versions have enough unique squares to fill more than two full cards, so there should be plenty of variety for generating different cards. Happy to edit if anyone thinks of new additions or notices something that should be removed/edited. Edit: also open to color critiques, however please note that I can't control the "cross out* color, only the background, grid lines, and text.

I did a version of this yesterday but folks pointed out some meaningful flaws, so I did a couple things different, and Seattle popped out as a notable team.

First, I looked just going into the third period. So blowing leads, or coming back from a deficit in the third.

Then I looked at this controlling for team quality. Not in the worlds most rigorous way, just imagine this scenario:

1. You play 100 games, and in 35 of them you enter the third behind
2. You win 9 of the 35, which is 26%. Is that good or bad?
3. Well, in your other 65 games you took about 78% of the points, and other teams in the league at that level come back from trailing at 15%, which is ~5 games.
4. Therefore, you make come backs a bit more than expected, 4 more times than expected.
5. Over the five and change seasons, anything within about 9 games of expectation is normal variation

I think this gives a much more interesting picture of teams that make come backs and blow leads, irrespective of just "good teams good bad teams bad."

BTW, in 410 games the Kraken came back in 15 of 184, expected 27 (-12) and blew 18 of 138 leads, expected 27 (-9)

Anyone going to Helsinki for the game, either with or without the travel package? I'll be around that area anyways and plan to go on Wednesday Nov. 12.

Reached out to my ticket rep and they didn't know what section the ticket packages were in / pointed me to the travel company which hasn't replied yet.

Anyone know? Would be nice to sit next to fellow squids though it's not like we present a remotely credible threat to the Canes anyways...

e: UPDATE, got a reply from the travel guys... they don't know either. They get the tickets "last minute"; I think the only guarantee is that they are Price Level 2. I would be somewhat unhappy about this if I was paying $$$ for a package.
