General/Advice Has anyone tried GLP1’s for PCOS?

Hi, I’m twenty-two, 5’4 and weigh around 250lbs. I have PCOS (PMOS) and was wondering if GLP1’s would be a good option to consider for me? I don’t have any history of heart issues or anything, I was on Metformin for a little bit, but I feel like it wasn’t helping whatsoever, I tried the extended release version as well. On top of having PCOS (PMOS), I also have Lymphedema, which also makes losing weight even more stubborn. I’ve seen people taking GLP1’s for lymphedema, but has anyone tried it for their PCOS and has it been helpful?

General/Advice Recently diagnosed - I'm not sure what to make of it

I'm 17, a trans man (I hope I'm welcome), and I was diagnosed with PCOS last month.

It began with me searching for an answer to my irregular period (2-8 months apart). I'm at the beginning of my "healthcare journey": only recently have I started going to a primary care doctor or receiving care for anything not teeth-related. After an ultrasound, they discovered my "enlarged ovaries" and diagnosed with me PCOS. My doctor is starting me on an Estrogen/Progesterone (?) birth control pill.

Other than my irregular period and ultrasound results, I've never really had any other symptoms. No acne, pain, or excessive hair growth, and my hormone blood work was completely normal. I've always been slightly overweight which I attribute to genetics, diet, and exercise (none of which are amazing).

I'm really not trying to make my situation seem better than anyone else's: I guess I'm just looking for clarity and maybe community. Can symptoms progress as you grow older? Is there anything I should be worried about?

For any queer members out there: I'm planning to start testosterone and medically transition ASAP once I'm 18. Will my condition or medication I'm taking interfere with that? This is my biggest fear.

Diet - Not Keto what do you eat that’s not carbs?

im a colleges student which means rice makes up a good portion of my meals partly for financial reasons but mostly because i dont know what else to cook besides a rice bowl. and im so sick of it and thinking this could be a good opportunity to cut down on my carbs intake because i know thats not ideal for pcos. but i have no idea what in the world i would replace rice/bread with in a meal. my brain cannot accept the idea of a meal being complete without a carb. what are some of you guys favorite lower carb meals?

Weight Any advice please, im desperate at this point

To those who've successfully lost weight how have you done it? What routines worked and how have you stuck with them? What foods are best to avoid and eat?

I'm 5'2 and about 156lbs.

I found out I had PCOS last month and my gynecologist told me I need to lose weight and I would get diabetes in 5 years. Yet everything I've tried either doesn't work or I quickly lose motivation to keep going.

Meds/Supplements Metformin: Is it working

I've seen a lot of posts in this sub Reddit about how people have had great results with Metformin. I have been on 1500mg of Metformin for a couple of years and I don't see anything different. I'm taking a lot of other medications as well and now I'm just wondering why I'm taking this on top of all my other things if it's not actually doing anything!

Meds/Supplements People who got the “never poop again” version of Metformin

How are you dealing with this? I started Metformin a month ago and I haven’t pooped in almost 3 weeks. I take magnesium and psyllium husk daily. I drink 3L of water per day. Laxatives do absolutely nothing. I’m genuinely getting worried.

I’m really happy that I got a conclusion but I’m also sad. I don’t really feel like a woman anymore. My testosterone levels, weight, cramps, and fatigue always affect me. I’m gonna try to find the best supplements for my condition but rn I’m in a bittersweet state

General/Advice I built Glyvia, an AI meal-planning app — looking for honest feedback

Hi everyone,

I'm an indie developer, and I built Glyvia, an Android app that helps people create personalized 7-day meal plans based on their food preferences, lifestyle, and goals.

The idea was to make weekly meal planning more organized and less overwhelming, especially for people looking for nutrition guidance related to insulin resistance or PCOS.

The app is published, but I'm still working on understanding what users find genuinely useful and what needs improvement.

I'd appreciate feedback on three specific things:

  • Is the weekly meal-planning experience useful and easy to understand?
  • What would make you trust and continue using an app like this?
  • What would make a premium subscription worth paying for?

I'm the developer, and I'm looking for honest criticism rather than promotional praise.

Glyvia is a nutrition-planning tool, not a medical diagnostic or treatment tool.

Hirsutism ipl worked for my chin hairs!

i know this will not be the case for everyone and some people will get paradoxical hair growth from ipl so try this at your own risk !!
i am on spironolactone which has already slowed down hair growth considerably and have used ipl on the rest of my body with good results. i decided after seeing a few posts about using it for chin hairs to take the risk and try it for myself. i dont have a crazy amount but it was enough to need to pluck daily. it’s been about a month of doing ipl 2-3 times per week on my chin and almost all of the dark hairs i had are now growing in white! it still feels stubbly but at least i dont have to be paranoid about people noticing if i forget to pluck!

Meds/Supplements Spiro as alternative of BC?

i’ve been put on yasmin for several months now by my obgyn. it works just fine but its not covered by my country’s national insurance sadly. i’m not in my best financial situation right now so i’m thinking if i can get another drug.
other than yasmin, i’m on metformin 500mg once a day. my period is regular but light. my main problem is high androgenism (acne and hair loss). i’ve heard spironolactone as potent anti androgenism and wanna check the option with my obgyn sometimes later.
anyone here not on BC but on spiro? how does it affects you? does it take around 3-6 months to exert its benefit just like BC? i have normal to low BP does that mean i cannot go under spiro? do you have to check your minerals by blood test regularly?

thank you!

Sharing this for free: the most common mistake when counting your cycle is the start date. Day 1 is the first day of real bleeding. Light spotting before it doesn't count. If you're not sure, write the date with a "?" instead of guessing. A blank is more useful to your doctor than an invented date. Just something that helped me. 💛

General/Advice Could really use some advice on what exactly to say to my dr! 17 months pp (28F)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I had a baby in 2025. I’m still breastfeeding but he is pretty established on solids, so it is mostly only at night / nap time. For some context, I did need to use letrozole to get pregnant and was successful on the third medicated cycle.

I had some blood tests done as I’m experiencing a massive amount of hair loss. I feel like theres always hair all over my house and I’m having to hoover it up so many times a day! I also have only had 4 periods since giving birth. My periods were quite irregular before but I always heard this usually improves after pregnancy.

I would love to address the hair loss but also to do something to help regulate my cycle. I would like to have more children in the future and it would be nice to be able to monitor my cycles and not have to go through the fertility clinic again, as it was quite mentally exhausting. I have been taking myo inositol but other than having one period after starting it (which could have been a coincidence as it arrived about 5 days later), i have not seen much of a change at all.

I would love some advice on what actually I need to ask my dr for following my blood results. Do i need further tests, e.g for insulin resistance ? If so, what tests? Is there a specific medication i can request to manage my condition? I’m in the UK and the NHS have been really bad at helping me manage this condition my whole life (I have known about my PCOS since I was 14).

My blood results are;

FSH 5.0 IU/L
LH 18 IU/L
Progesterone 0.8 nmol/L
Total testosterone 1.5 nmol/L
Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) 22 nmol/L
Free androgen index (FAI) 6.8%
Prolactin 374 mU/L
TSH 1.05 mU/L
HbA1c 35 mmol/mol
Vitamin D 46 nmol/L
Ferritin 46.4 µg/L
Total cholesterol 5.7 mmol/L
HDL cholesterol 1.49 mmol/L
LDL cholesterol 3.89 mmol/L
Triglycerides 0.70 mmol/L
Full blood count Normal
Urea and electrolytes (U+E) Normal
Liver function tests (LFTs) Normal
Bone profile Normal

Really appreciate any advice and support!

General/Advice im so confused about this

21F. For context, I got my first period when I was 10. They were initially regular but always extremely painful and heavy. As I got older, they became so irregular that I started going months without a period. I also started developing excessive facial and body hair and struggling with my weight.

When I was 18, I finally went to my GP because I was barely getting periods. They suspected PCOS, and my blood tests suggested it too. An ultrasound in April 2025 showed polycystic ovaries, but I've never really had a clear answer about my diagnosis for some reason.

In March 2025, I experienced some of the worst pelvic pain of my life. I was in so much pain that I became extremely pale, and my lips went grey. I'm not sure if this was the reason, but it happened after taking Provera to induce a period, which resulted in 10 days of bleeding and severe pain.

July 2026, my blood tests showed high testosterone, high insulin, very low SHBG and a TSH of 11.6. I was told I have hypothyroidism and started levothyroxine in September. No weird side effects so far, but it hasn't been long anyway.

At my latest GP appointment, I was told I don't have PCOS because my more recent ultrasound didn't show cysts, and that my absent periods are likely related to hypothyroidism and insulin resistance. I was advised to take levothyroxine and metformin and lose some weight to help regulate my periods.

I tried metformin at the end of September but had to stop after three days because I felt constantly nauseous and motion-sick. I can't work or study if I take it in the morning.

My last period was in December 2025, and I still haven't had one.

Today, I experienced another episode of absolutely horrible pelvic pain after a long time. It was constant, with pressure and stabbing pain across my lower abdomen and into my back. I was literally shaking from the pain before calling NHS 111. I really can't say what the reason was this time. Painkillers helped a little, but after taking them, my entire stomach area became sore for HOURS.

I explained everything to 111, but was advised to continue with painkillers and follow up with my GP because this is a recurring problem. I'm just scared of the fact that it's been so long since my last period and the whole uterus lining thickening situation.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Especially the severe pelvic pain when you're not even on your period? Or having conflicting opinions about PCOS despite abnormal hormone results? Did you eventually find out what was causing it? I just really want to hear from people who've been through something similar because I'm exhausted and honestly don't know what to do anymore.

First post lol thanks for reading

Meds/Supplements Birth control

• Upvotes

Hey girls,

I'm (26) writing today because I think I've reached my limit and gave it my all. So PCOS is one of the many conditions I have and I actually get my periods every month now(after losing 40 pounds), my blood work is totally normal.  I did everything I could not to get on bc to ease my acne and oiliness. The issue is I can't even use topicals because I have type one rosacea and am very dermatitis prone. I can't get on antibiotics or accutane either because I have ulcerative colitis. I also developed seborrheic dermatitis because of pcos.

I really want to start bc but the thought of it causing new symptoms that I never had (hirsutism, alopecia) once I get off of it is terrifying me and it's the only thing stopping me from taking it.

I'm just tired of being sick and ugly and want to feel more comfortable in my own skin..

Has this happened to anyone?

Meds/Supplements Folks who used metformin to get support for PCOS, did you have to continue taking it for life or you weaned off after symptoms improved?

• Upvotes

The issue is metformin affects absorption of iron and B12 and some essential minerals for baseline health. Supplements is a way to fix it but seems a bit infeasible. What were your experimentations with metformin? How long did you use it for and did you stopped using it during pregnancy?

Rant/Venting rant

i hate that there are so many different 'rules' and opinions on treatment for PCOS. One person will say do keto, take 9000 supplements and go run 10 miles aday. someone else will say only eat meat and just weightlift, dont run. i hear so much different advice on social media and from the doctors i dont even know what to do anymore. the social media aspect just pushes us to take 12 different pills a day and to never touch sugar. i know i should be doing what feels best for me, but i have yet to find something that actually works. #exhausted #overit
