What do they have in North Carolina

Hello. I'm a Japanese. Sorry if my English is awkward.

I'm going to visit North Carolina to attend a scientific conference. I'm so looking forward to it because this is my first time to go to the US.

Before going there, I want to know about North Carolina. Please tell me any information.

For example:

- Temperature in North Carolina (I'll be there at the end of October)

- Famous food I should try

- People's personality out there

Thank you for reading!

politics NC Republican Michael Lee runs AI smear ads against his opponent, then loses it when someone makes embarrassing posters of him

North Carolina state Sen. Michael Lee ran an attack ad using AI-generated images of his opponent, Jessica Bichler, twisting her body into impossible yoga poses while calling her “bonkers” and making disputed claims about her political affiliations. He was sent a cease-and-desist letter but chose to keep running the ads anyway.

Now someone is putting up giant posters and cardboard cutouts of Lee holding cash, wearing an “I ❤️ Special Interest” shirt, and appearing to have peed himself.

Lee is demanding that Bichler condemn the attacks. She has, also stating that “…unlike my opponent, I’ve always been against AI-generated advertisements.”

Apparently, AI-generated political smears are fair game until you’re the one being mocked.

Advocacy group pitches commuter rail to Matthews, Monroe

MATTHEWS – All Aboard Charlotte has approached leaders in Matthews and Monroe about a proposal to extend passenger rail service beyond anything currently funded.

At one point, a one-cent sales tax in Mecklenburg County was viewed as a viable funding solution to extend rail toward Union County, but the state legislature placed a cap on how much of that revenue could be used for light rail. This forced regional leaders to prioritize projects, and the proposed LYNX Silver Line segment from Charlotte to Matthews did not make the cut.

Evan Schultheis, of All Aboard Charlotte, informed Matthews leaders of another alternative. The group recommends establishing commuter rail from Charlotte Gateway Station to Monroe using the CSX railway right of way.

"We believe that the CSX line between Charlotte and Monroe is underutilized and that CSX would be amenable to a trackage rights agreement for passenger service with the right incentives," Schultheis told town commissioners Oct. 13 during public comments.

His organization has created a 120-page proposal on the idea.

"Our proposal suggests having nine stops and double-tracking the line to run hourly commuter train service similar to the future Red Line," Schultheis said. "We further propose half-hourly service during rush hours."

The project could be built in two phases. All Aboard Charlotte estimates a first phase, from Charlotte Gateway Station to Matthews, would cost $900 million in 2027 dollars. An extension to Monroe would add $300 million in 2027 dollars.

"This would also lay the groundwork for future service to Wilmington, a service that was once hosted by the Seaboard Railway and has been mentioned as a future passenger line by NCDOT," Schultheis said.

Schultheis requested time during an upcoming meeting to formally present the proposal. He encouraged town leaders to discuss it with the Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority and CSX.

All Aboard Charlotte is a chapter of the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains. Learn more about the organization at allaboardcarolinas.org/charlotte-chapter.

There's an interview with All Aboard Charlotte President Jim Fetchero tonight at 11 on WSOC (Channel 9).

What shut down I-40 westbound yesterday morning? They re-routed everyone in the opposite direction and had them get off the first exit in the wrong direction. I haven’t seen any reports of what occurred.

North Carolina was one of the last state fairs that didn't charge a percentage of sales. Only Illinois, Missouri and Minnesota still offer fixed-price space rental. NC's vendor charges essentially doubled.

Most states charge 15%, South Dakota charges 16%, Nebraska 18%, Iowa 19.5%, Virginia & West VIrginia 20%, Colorado 25%. Fixed charges are based on the linear footage of frontage space.

Engagement photos

I’m not sure if this is the best place to find this answer or not but I figured I’d try. I’m looking for cool unique locations to have my engagement photos taken. Looking anywhere between Raleigh and Goldsboro roughly. Would love something abandoned or like a cool cemetery. Thanks!

A data center next door: What changed for Forest City neighbors after 13 years?

Hey everyone! My name is Elijah Skipper. I'm an investigative reporter with News 13 in Western North Carolina.

With all the attention on data centers, I wanted to go back to one that's been here for years and find out what life has actually been like next door.

Our station investigated generator noise at Facebook's Forest City site in 2013. I tracked down two of the neighbors from that report, Jim Bennett and Tommy Doggett, and went back to see them.

We watched their old interviews together, then went into Jim's backyard beside the site. They say it's much quieter now. Both believe the sound-absorbing material and trees helped.

Something that stayed with me was how much credit they gave the original reporting for getting Facebook to listen. They also wanted to acknowledge that the company became a better neighbor.

But getting there took time. In our 2015 follow-up, neighbors were still saying the noise was a problem.

I went back through the earlier coverage and state records and kept following up with Meta about what changed, when, and whether Forest City influenced its practices elsewhere. At publication, its spokesperson was still trying to track down answers. We hadn't obtained a current generator testing schedule or written agreement showing what hours apply now.

I think there's something useful here for other WNC communities having these conversations. Hearing that things improved matters. So does understanding what residents had to do to get there and what commitments they can actually rely on.

If you live near the Forest City site, what has your experience been? For people elsewhere in WNC, what would you want settled before a data center is approved near homes?

I'm happy to answer questions about the reporting. Feedback and suggestions for what deserves another look are welcome, too.

politics Early voting starts today!

If you’re not sure of your eligibity or where you should vote, check with the election board.

Vote! If you only usually vote for Presidential elections, your vote for midterms mean the most, about how the rest of the President’s term goes. Also, always vote for local, they directly affect your life and the office they’re voted into is a step on the rung for national politics. None of us can afford to not vote. Check your polling place, the Supreme Court allowed for lines to be redrawn.

Make the time to learn about the candidates, and take the time to vote. Like it or not, politicians control our lives-with our blessing. Your non vote still has a voice in shaping the future for society.

Pitt nc Leo's

Proud of your local officers?

Since 2019 my small farm has had issue's with a few members of a local hunting club... we'll call it the "Im rich so my grandson and his buddies can tresspass to shoot turkeys and bucks at nights on other peoples land" club. It turned out for years a member had been telling everyone he owned a certain piece of land... that's now ours and was never his. So I had a few talks with the tresspassing poachers that all claimed they thought they were in the right because of... we'll call him "drunk driver"... saying it was his land and they could hunt it.

So you think after that it was cleared up? Nah drunk driver has hounds... that he'd let loose year around or otherwise not upkeep his pens so they escape tresspassing onto our farm killing hundreds of animals over the years as it had now added up to over 130 times costing over 25k in livestock.

So the cops must of done something right? Haha yeah theyve kept animal control from doing there job. As any normal person would of had there dogs taken after the 3rd time. But drunk driver is in that super cool hunting club, including Greenville police officer Whitehurst. So whenever the sheriff office shows up he's there to fist bump them and make sure drunk driver gets off. Drunk driver even kept 1 dog in his truck bed box for a month to only release it every morning before work to kill my livestock. So again breaking multiple laws... with no reprocussion even though hes recieved warning before for illegally keeping dogs in his truck box because he's too lazy to fix his pens.

Have already had issues with drunk driver and officer Whitehurst dogs this year and deer season wasnt in yet.

How about it 2022 I caught drunk driver and his wife poaching a turkey out of season with a rifle on our land. He yelled "I got one" like a child... because shooting a turkey with a rifle is so easy it's illegal... good job drunk driver.

So after this drunk driver obviously had to up his game to protect his pathetic poaching way of life right? So he had a fellow members release dogs onto the property again. An when the hounds wouldnt leave my woods cuz they had killed a doe. Another boy illegally released dogs from the road onto our property. When telling the pitt gamewarden Biggerstaff he said "I went to high-school with him he wouldnt do that" I said arnt you not allowed to work in the county you grew up in? He said "I lied and gave my grandma's address so I can." Then continued to threaten my home and truck with an illegal search unless I went with the made up story.

Now feeling extra confident drunk driver dumped literal tons of yard debris and household trash onto our property to burn. When confronted he said we could burn it together and drink beer. I said he could use the heavy equipment he borrowed and the dump trailer to properly dispose of it.

So I started installing perimeter fencing. He got now retired deputy Williams to threaten me with arrest if I stepped foot on any part of that property and should just trade around 150k in land for a useless .2 acre plot drunk driver owned. So we got a 5.3k survey proving we were right. Deputy Stewart came out and after talking with miss drunk driver and daughter drunk driver he drove off with the daughter in hot pursuit. Called to tell me he wasnt getting involved after he insisted he needed to come out in person to evaluate how much trash to decide between tickets. Said the trash was pre 2019 even though I have pictures proving it.

So no there is no law in pitt nc wourth the badge they hide behind. Even the good ones can't do much or the others will turn on them.

It's escalated to the point multiple super cool club members have tresspassed and threatened me. So I wouldn't be surprised if it continued. This is what happens when pathetic cops let there "friends" brake laws cuz "They wouldnt lie to me."

Deer season starts soon. Hundreds of my animals have died wiall theyve gotten to keep there dogs.

Ive also had a strung out drugy that shouldn't of been driving come bang on my door throughout the night trying to buy drugs for 3 months before i finally called the pathetic pitt county sherrif department. Just to be told by deputy Robinson that "im pathetic for being a man calling about a women in his driveway and he wouldnt be responding". So when the drug dealer came over from next door to make the deal in my driveway I went outside with a gun. An guess who showed up later after the junky called the law? Robinson, who told the junky to stop yelling about her relationship to an "Elks". Anyone remember former sheriff's? So guess who got to drive away? Yep the strung out junky that couldnt realize she was at the wrong house for hours. An her dealer on a 4wheeler the local sergeant said he'd been looking for.

So are yall proud of the pitt nc leos? What would you do?

Allegedly
