Dude. If I wasnât expecting my husband and someone came up with their hands or lips on me, Iâd be throwing punches. I hope it says more about these gals knowing itâs their mans touch(and connecting the dots by being filmed) and not about how âsubmissiveâ we need to act as women around unknown acts of touch from men. I know submissive isnât quite the right wording⌠self preserving?

I can tell you are a guy, not bad meaning. If a guy dares touch you in this way and you act aggressive, that might just be what he needs to overpower you. Its weird behaviour if from random guys, guys with weird behaviour are dangerous. Dont tick dangerous guys off when they are this close...

Happily married for 25 years and I think my wife would WTF the bajesus out of me if I showed up unannounced on a girls trip. Part of me thinks weâre happily married because I wouldnât do anything like this.
Of course to be fair to these gorgeous hothouse web-dwelling folks theyâre all super young and the dynamic is very different in the early days of âcourtinâ. Keeping romance alive in my marriage these days is surprising her with three loads of folded laundry, the kids lunches packed and a foot rub.
Now I want to do a video of older couples falling asleep in mismatched pajamas to Victorian Farm on tv with this music playing in the background. Snoring and a farting dog would be mandatory.

Omg last night my husband did the laundry and AND folded socks. Idk if you know what itâs like to fold a shit ton of childrenâs socks but my god Iâm sure thatâs an activity on one of the seven levels of hell. I looked at him and said âyouâre working for it tonight arenât you?â He winked at me and said âready and waiting after I find this other spider man sock.â

Right. And like if you showed up and gave me a kiss on the head that's fine. But like what is he going to hang out for the rest of the week.... I wouldn't care. I love him. He's my best friend. But I would feel personally offended and upset for all the other girls who did not want my husband on the trip. That would be just fucking rude and weird... Like I'm sad I can't bring him on girls trips. He's my bestie... I don't really care if he's there. It's about the other people too!

Let me tell ya, we've been together for about 16 years now. I got a new job a few months ago. First big purchase was a surprise. A new dyson vacuum. It showed up and she got excited, and then I proceeded to happily do the entire house with it.... That was a good night

This reminds me of a coffee table book I bought years ago after my divorce called âPorn for Womenâ that featured a series of photos of good looking men doing household chores like laundry or vacuuming or asking them to go antiquing. It was quite hilarious. At least for the few minutes or so.

I don't like them kissing before she knows it's them. Too many of the reactions are frozen because you are assessing a threat. Yeah there's a happy ending, but that's a hell of an adrenaline spike when you think you're about to be assaulted or have to do some assaulting.

Yup, the only ones that react well immediately are the ones who could easily read the situation from their female friends faces. Guys honestly don't know how hard it is for a woman to even just exist in the outside world. I saw a college guy in TEARS when he witnessed a groping for the first time in his life. A man grabbed my butt in passing and I had to council the guy who saw it happen out of an existential crisis over the fact that these things are done in broad daylight, he was so upset that he was literally crying and shouting about it... While I've had it happen so often that I don't even remember each seperate time anymore

Yes, this. Thank you for saying this. There are a lot of freeze and fawn reactions shown here, and honestly itâs sad.
101
u/Suspicious_Glow 13d ago
I think a lot of comments forget about âfawnâ. Sometimes going along to some degree while the threatening person is behaving with a positive mood, can be a calculated choice to not piss off the person thatâs already close enough to hurt you.
42
u/Ivory-Robin 13d ago
Yes, exactly. It is much safer to fawn, especially when someone comes up behinds you like that.
30
u/avidskier76 13d ago
YES!! I teach trauma responses and Iâm considering saving this video because it demonstrates it so clearly!!
Also, not trying to be critical or anything but I was recently encouraged to start using âappeaseâ instead of âfawnâ because âfawnâ carries sexist undertones. I wasnât sure how I felt about that because I do like the alliteration of âfight, flight, freeze, fawnâ, but after sitting with it a while, I agree and I chose to make the adjustment in my training. Just sharing in case it resonates with you as it ended up resonating with me!

As a woman who has had similar happen to me (getting hugged from behind by a guy friend in a situation where I did not expect to see him). It's terrifying. I, too, froze up. Guys, don't do this shit!

Once I was vacuuming and didn't hear my husband come in and he came up and hugged me from behind. I completely freaked out, hit him hard several times, before seeing it was him and collapsing in tears. He's never done something like that again and he didn't think about the fact that it would be terrifying to suddenly have someone touching you when you thought you were home alone. It's crazy the stupid things some guys can do because they don't realize the situations women are frequently put in that are scary and dangerous.

I completely understand some of these women seeming to take this 'too easy' - especially seeing how I would wager it's mostly men in these comments. Not faulting them - it's just something they wouldn't know. Most of these women are freezing up out of fear and bewilderment. They literally don't know whether to fight, run, or shout. And when you're a woman having this done to you, you know it's 99% likely being done by a man who is bigger and stronger than you, and that's terrifying.
But that fourth girl straight up just looked like she was expecting the embrace of her side piece, and was shocked when she saw it was her main man.
281
u/Outside_Coffee_00 13d ago
You also have to keep in mind that they're all sitting with their people, and instead of shocked faces, their people likely have huge smiles. There's clearly a joke they're not in on yet, so they're freezing until they understand what's happening.Â
17
u/pagman007 12d ago
I am so glad you said that. I never thought anything was weird about the freezing responses except for 4. Completely threw me
136
u/allthatssolid 13d ago
THANK YOU. Watching these women sit uncomfortably through the affections of a stranger before they realize tells you everything you need you know about what how women feel like they have endure and placate the egos and actions of men.

124
u/Ace-Cuddler 13d ago
Maybe itâs because one of the posts in my feed before this one was of Chris Isaak forcibly kissing Cameron Diaz at a VMA award show. But, itâs really sad that so many of these women froze up in response to a stranger invading her personal space and there are even comments from people who are upset that some of these women werenât nearly assertive enough. But, unless you have been in that position (as I have) where a stranger unexpectedly touches you without warning, then you should not be so quick to judge what is or isnât an appropriate response.

175
u/TerminallyBlonde 13d ago
Yep, my main response is fawn and I could be terrified but smiling too. The mindset is "I'll show my belly so they are pleased and don't hurt me" and I'll do mostly anything to keep them happy to keep myself safe. It's basically trauma teaching you that your safety is dependent on other people being happy with your behavior.

This is most true of the woman who got kissed on the top of her head.
She's like is someone on my head what's up but her friends are filming and not reacting like a weirdo is touching her so she figured out it can only be one person.
26
u/CaptainABC123 13d ago

20
u/owlbi 13d ago
Right? Fighting would be appropriate for someone randomly caressing you in public.
These videos made me a bit depressed (assuming they're real and not staged) because they show the default female reaction to unwanted physical conflict is to deflect with a smile. Society has taught women they aren't safe enough to forcefully reject unwanted physical contact.

Could be fawn response. You never really know what's actually going on in someone's head. You can be conditioned to automatically smile when your personal safety is put at risk, and if you don't believe that, you've never been in a physically abusive relationship where you regularly feared for your life.

In fact, most women would freeze. It's a really common fear response in women who have been conditioned to be "nice".
I guess the joke is watching women get uncomfortable, and then realizing it's their partner that made them uncomfortable.
And this part. Yeah, this is why it's so uncomfortable to watch. Why would a guy who loves his partner want to make her feel uncomfortable/ creeped out first? Is messed up.

Iâm not negating other peopleâs comments on the oddness of some of the womenâs reactions, but itâs worth noting that not all people react defensively in these types of situations. Some people fight, some people âflight,â and some people freeze. Iâm just taking a shot in the dark here, but they might be freezing out of panic. They donât understand whatâs going on and likely based on their friendâs reactions, itâs clearly not super concerning that they would need to react with more vigilance. I was in Iraq when the war kicked off and I was walking with my two lady friends when mortars started landing around us. Rather than react by running to shelter, they froze and started crying. I (also a woman), had to navigate them to shelter otherwise they probably wouldâve still been standing there.

A lot of judgment here about âcheatingâ or nonchalance about being hugged/kissed by strangers
It is a VERY normal response to freeze/fawn in this situation when being unexpectedly sexually assaulted by a stranger while your nervous system figures out how best to get you out of a situation safely.
And yes, when you expect your partner to be hundreds or thousands of miles away a surprise kiss or hug is an unwanted assault. Donât do this. Itâs not romantic. Show up with flowers and surprise her, just let her see you before you touch her. Itâs not rocket science, itâs consideration.

I see some comments saying âsome of them didnât mind being touched without knowing who it isâ. Itâs strange being touched by a stranger (as they consider their partner in those first seconds). Your mind is taking some time to register whatâs hapenning.
When I was visibly pregnant, a complete stranger touched my stomach and just kind of held her hand there. It was odd..very very odd. And I didnât register it for a hot second before understanding whatâs hapenning. Would I ~normally ~ allow a stranger to touch me? F no! But in the moment it âjust happenedâ. You donât know your reaction when youâre not given a âheads upâ.
To the commenters making suggestive remarks as though perhaps these women were used to being touched in the absence of their boyfriends, shame on you for jumping to conclusions so quickly.

I know one of the people in this video - first time that has ever happened to me and it feels weird. They used to be an F45 trainer in Los Angeles.
Also for those who are certain this is AI, at least one of these clips is definitely not.

20 years ago I pulled this on my (now) wife. Had been together 5 years at that point, and I had left the country to do my master's. Flew back without saying anything and got a friend of hers to invite her out shopping, except I showed up instead. She definitely liked that :)

The one with the woman on a birthday trip is clearly a dude who doesn't trust his significant other

I really don't see any of the initial reactions as suspicious like others are saying.
Our brains process things a lot faster than we consciously realize. Any actual thought is after dozens of data points have been analyzed.
Someone's smell, how the touch you, small sounds they make, ways they move, how their skin/body feels, the rocking when holding, etc is stored in our memories.
To me, it looks more of the body/subconscious recognizing the men and feeling comfortable before the rational brain includes the info that it "can't" be them. Then the look to see who it is. Then pure joy.

I think a lot of these people see that the person filming them is filming them and that they arenât freaking out. They probably have a huge smile behind their phone screen so they can see âthis is someone I knowâ

Some of these women do not look even remotely off put or surprised by someone coming up from behind them and touching them...

All of them were with other people and may have had measured reactions based on their friendâs reactions. If all her friends were grinning it would have been a clue not to be too weirded out.

I noticed, too. I wondered if LOT'S of people simply have been conditioned and bullied to hide fear and physical reaction for personal mental/physical/social safety. What a terrible cognitive dissonance to live with, constantly. For everyone.
Can't judge people with how they react in public to a situation where they aren't in control from others.
Easy to say in your mind and on the internet as to how you would react, armchair QB. But, when you SPECIFICALLY are targeted in a group situation, surrounded by peers/friends/family/coworkers, there's a huge amount of pressure to maintain and play. It sucks a fuck.
Then you replay your personal reaction and response after the fact, indefinitely. And then REDDIT and the internet remind you forever - if you're unlucky to have your fear response endlessly replayed.

They all literally froze. That's one of the valid reactions to a threat: Fight, Flight, or Freeze.

If I had snuck up on my ex in a public place and tried to kiss her without her knowing I was there, I'd be missing teeth, I guarantee it.

I would never bother my wife when she was on a girls trip, I want some apart time too ya know. However I will never forget surprising her when we had been dating for about a year and a half and we hadn't seen each other in about 5 months. The look on her face lol I wish I had a picture!
