Westwood Apartments

• Upvotes

I was looking for housing around UCLA and was wondering if the convenience of living nearby campus in Westwood but paying a higher price compared to living somewhere else like in Sawtelle that is more affordable was a tradeoff that was worth considering?

I’ve been having a hard time finding affordable apartments or studios in Westwood and was thinking I would be better off living somewhere else farther away from campus. Unfortunately, I don’t have a car, for those who commute, how is the bus ride from Sawtelle to North Campus? Does anyone also have any recommendations for any apartments nearby campus?

I hate the communal bathrooms!!!

I asked around and everyone i knew said you get used to it after a bit, but its already been two weeks and it still kills me inside every time i have to go shower in dykstra.

Usually my mom draws me a nice warm bath every night and has my favorite sippy cup with blue gatorade ready on the side. The light blue one, not the dark blue, with crushed ice. I also have a batman rubber ducky that likes to float in the tub with me.

I tried to recreate that feeling here in the dykstra 4th floor communal bathrooms but it just isnt the same. I bring my rubber ducky and blue gatorade to the bathroom but it isnt in a sippy cup and theres no crushed ice. Its just in the bottle and it gets hot inside the shower. Sometimes i have to ask someone else to help me open it cuz its really hard mentally and i just start crying.

Does anyone know if theres anywhere on campus i can go and take a bath? If not i was just gonna have my mom pick me up on fridays and id take a bath on friday and saturday and an extra long one on sunday to prepare me for the rest of the week at school.

I know some men think theyre too macho to say it, but i think it makes me more of a man to admit it: i miss my mommy!!

looking to make new friends & friend group!

hi everyone!! i transferred to UCLA this fall, and now that we're already at the end of week 3, i still haven't found my people at all 🥲 i have some classmates i talk to, but it's been hard finding people who want to hang out outside of class.

i was hoping to make more friends and have that fun college experience, so i thought i'd put myself out there! would anyone be interested in making a friend group together? i'm 21F and would love to meet other girls, but i'm open to anyone i vibe with!!

we could get food, cafe hop, explore LA, go to campus events, or just hang out. if anyone else is in a similar situation, feel free to comment or DM me!! 💗

Edit: anyone commenting lookout for a DM! Arranging hang outs and plan to make an iMessage gc :)

Which deadline do they lock GPA for transfer applicants?

Transcripts are due in January but the TAU portal allows you to update grades by March. If your GPA changes during that period, which GPA do they go with?

Looking for an English Conversation Partner – UCLA Law Student

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for an English-speaking conversation partner for a friend who is currently studying at UCLA School of Law. Ideally, he’d like to connect with a law student or someone with a legal background who would be interested in meeting regularly to practise English and discuss law-related topics.

The goal is to improve his spoken English, legal vocabulary, and confidence in academic and professional discussions, while also exchanging ideas and learning from each other.

If you’re interested or have any recommendations for where to find someone, please feel free to comment or send me a DM. Thanks!

Plss I need this. I got rejected from all the top one and I feel like I’m way too behind now. And I don’t think I’ll be able to score something meaningful to fluff up my app before winter recruiting…

Pointless Employee Standing Outside Dining Halls

Why do all of the dining halls now have an employee standing outside telling people to leave their backpacks in lockers? This seems like the most pointless thing ever. Doing the math for just B-Plate, which is open for 9 hours a day, knowing students are paid $18.80/hr, that's $169.20/day wasted. For 7 days a week, 33 weeks a year, this adds up to at least $39,085.20 wasted on having a person stand out there. If a full-time employee or manager is out there for even an hour a day, this number skyrockets. Each dining hall is essentially flushing 3 in-state students' tuition down the toilet every year. I also have a friend that works at B-Plate, who tells me that they are severely understaffed, so this makes even less sense to me!

This gives me the same vibes as the B-Plate bodyguard that used to be there staring at people leaving making sure nobody left with a banana. It's so stupid I can't understand it. I made a reddit account just to rant about this because it's absolutely ridiculous.

didn't get into any pre-med clubs!

Yeah so I got rejected from every single club I applied to. There is nothing I can do now. What do I do??? I feel like I'm falling so behind here at UCLA cuz all the premed kids have clubs and theyre so on top of things. What can I do instead of clubs? How can I plan and get ahead too...

I really want to go to med school, and I dont know what opportunities to seek here cuz I keep getting rejected.

If you're thinking about taking gap years

and no, the year you take to apply to medical schools, doesn't count, I'm talking about real gap years to try to catch up... yeah those... don't take them. Do the work now. I'm struggling and it sucks booty cheeks out here. I'm back to being surrounded by people with no ambitions and who don't care about school :/, and who aren't my age. Opportunities are hard to find and on top of that I have to think about what I"m goign to eat each week and plan ahead. Don't take gap years.

i wish i was in school already. i wish i was still in ucla so i could be stressed out about exams and complain about ucla. what a wonderful thing to be in the position to even complain about ucla and to be stressed out about exams.
