They used to be crown teir and now they are teir five.

Interesting to say the least as we should have figtable teir fives

Edit should've stated I assume this is an accident but it could mean they are fightable, if so they'll be tier five but I doubt It..I imagine tier five will be different from the closing, tier crown Edit edit. See below for a picture of the crow as a crown tier Also apologies for spelling tier as teir, always flip the two

G2 | Suggestion Please bring back the category hotbar slots!

I miss the option to set hotbar slots as certain categories of items. I want to go to the next healing item when I run out. I want to have my food swapped out when I eat it. I love this feature and obviously they give them to you when you first start but as soon as you put anything in that slot it overrides it. In Grounded 1 it let you set them to whatever you want. I was so sad when I realized you couldn't do it anymore in Grounded 2.

G2 | Base Build They changed my beloved mushroom material

Yes, I want to whine about it, sue me. Why oh why did they change the mushroom material from white to light brown?
It used to be fantastic to use the lovely white mushroom pillars or bricks to build unusual things and make them look like a whole different sort of creation out of the ordinary.
In Grounded 2 I tried to build another blue-shining pool, now being able to build under water, but the new mushroom floor and pillars don't really glow blue when using lamps and sonces.

Also, building a new ice rink, which would be especially great at the ice cream cart, doesn't work with the new mushroom colour.

Too bad :( There's always a catch, isn't it?

For the life of me I cannot figure out if I am like missing a lever somewhere to get this thing opened or if my game is bugged or what. This is the skunk pond outpost, and everything online points toward just swimming underneath to this moon pool area and entering, but the hatch is closed :(

Is there a way to open it? Did I miss something?

G2 | Discussion 4 player coop but not?

• Upvotes

Has anyone played in a 4 player coop scenario but you aren’t playing coop and you all take a section of the map and have to build your base. You can each push on the story as you wish but ultimately you must have a PVE type play through so if you both find each other in common ground you must fight or that your not allowed into enemy territory. Add in a safe zone where trading of resources may happen etc

Currently playing just now and was checking out the creature card section. I noticed that my angry category is missing two entries to the left of the fish, as shown in the picture, my harmless is also missing one. To my knowledge I’ve met all of the new enemies that came with the woodpile, but I’m assuming I’ve missed some somewhere? Does anyone know what these missing ones are?

Before posting I tested with more items in the Koi shell armor. If you pick up stems, they go through your body. Acorn shells disappear. It's apparent more issues will arise from using this armor so if you have found some please post below.

G2 | Discussion How Damage Classes, Damage Flags, and Weapon Upgrade Paths work. (Sourced directly from the game's code)

I am frequently frustrated by how unclear, ambiguous, confusing, or unintuitive effects, interactions, and their applications are in Grounded 2.

Fortunately I am a data miner with AUDHD and a passion for data processing lol.

So. I've decided whenever I run into one of these questions, I'm just going to get an objective, data sourced answer, turn it into a digestible explanation and then post it here.

If you have any questions related to this particular topic and that is not already answered by inference please feel free to ask. I'm sure there are likely to be one or two outlier niche instances this doesn't cover.

Today we're starting with Weapon Upgrades, Damage Classes, and Damage Flags and how they effect Damage Bonuses.

Weapon Damage

Weapons have a damage Class and that damage Class has damage Flags that determine what type of damage is actually done. As far as I can tell Weapons do not have multiple classes. Any time it seems like a weapon might have multiple classes what it actually has is a combined class, or a secondary effect that causes it to do a separate distinct instance of damage that comes from another source that has a different class.

Damage Classes

Damage Class is a container for various damage Flags.
Damage Class generally includes the "type" a weapon is. Smashing, Stabbing, Spicy, etc...

Damage Flags

Damage Flags are the explicit type of damage that is done by an effect or attack.
Damage Flags can include things like Slashing, Spicy, Venom, and Tang.

Weapon Upgrade Paths

What happens when you upgrade a weapon down an elemental path is the damage Class of the original weapon is replaced with a preconfigured combined damage Class. One Class of each combined type exists in the game data. I checked every single one, each one is complete and accurate.

Combined Class examples:
SpicyStabbing
SmashingSlashing
ShockSmashing

Spicy Weapon Upgrade Example:
Mosquito Needle
Base Damage Flag: Stabbing
Post "Spicy" upgrade Damage Class: SpicyStabbing

SpicyStabbing damage Flags: Spicy & Stabbing

The result of this is that the outgoing damage packet of each attack has both damage Flags. It only does one instance of damage but that damage counts as both Stabbing and Spicy for the consideration of effects and triggers.

This means that a Spicy upgraded Mosquito Needle will trigger effects that trigger on either Stabbing and/or Spicy damage and will benefit from effects that impact either Stabbing and/or Spicy damage.

Damage Bonuses

When a damage instance applies to multiple damage bonus qualifiers the damage bonuses are multiplied together and the result is what is actually applied during the weakness/resistance calculation. Resistances and interactions between Weaknesses and Resistance are calculated the exact same way.

Damage Weakness Example
Spicy Mosquito Needle
Base Damage = 100 (this isn't accurate, just for the sake of this example)
Creature Weakness = 15% Stabbing + 30% Spicy

15% Stabbing Weakness = 1.15x multiplier
30% Spicy Weakness = 1.30x multiplier

Final Weakness Calculation: 1.15 x 1.30 = 1.495
Final Weakness value = 49.5% Weakness
Final Damage from Spicy Mosquito Needle = 149.5 damage

Damage Resistance & Weakness Example
Spicy Mosquito Needle
Base Damage = 100 (this isn't accurate, just for the sake of this example)
Creature Weakness = 30% Spicy
Creature Resistance = 25% Stabbing

30% Spicy Weakness = 1.30x multiplier
25% Stabbing Resistance = 0.75x multiplier

Final Weakness Calculation: 1.30 x 0.75 = 0.975
Final Weakness/Resistance value = 0.975 or 2.5% Resistance
Final Damage from Spicy Mosquito Needle = 97.5 damage

I know that "30% Weakness" + "25% Resistance" resulting in an overall positive Resistance seems... counter-intuitive but hey, that's multiplicative math for ya.

Including a good question from u/Sabeth-Drake:
"What about triple damage types"

Intuitively it seems like some weapons would have a triple damage class. Weapons like AXL's Talon, the Spicy Coaltana, the Sour Katanga, etc... however each of these weapons either has a single damage type (Stabbing in the case of AXL's Talon) or a combined damage type (Spicy/Slashing in the case of the Spicy Coaltana). Since there are no weapons with a combined damage type that are also eligible for an elemental upgrade path it is not possible to have a weapon with three or more primary damage flags in a single damage packet resulting from a combined damage class.

There is a slight outlier here in the form of certain damage augments like Burning and Venom which in and of themselves don't actually directly cause damage but instead cause a status effect build up that then causes damage over time. As such they don't actually impact the weakness or resistance calculations of the primary damage event.

Exceptions

There are some effects that check the damage Class, not Flag of an item or effect directly. In these cases a modified damage Class would cause the effect to not trigger. As far as I know there are only 4 instances of this in the game:

  • Shock Therapy from the Tin Foil Hat armor piece
  • Gag Resistance from the Gas Mask armor piece
  • Burn Resistance from the Fresh Defense Mutation
  • Freeze Resistance from the Fuzzy Armor Set Bonus

G2 | Discussion The scale of progression seems way harder this time around

I’ll start by saying I’m not a super experienced player here and this opinion is from solo play, if that changes anything. I’ve played Grounded years ago (not much) and ended up getting back into the series seriously for the past couple of weeks now. This is just what I’ve noticed experiencing both so far.

The scale of progression in the first game seems a lot more straightforward. More specifically with enemy encounters. While doing missions for the story, each subsequent mission felt as if it was taking me to a different level of the yard and showing me the next challenge I had to overcome to complete it. Unless you went exploring on your own, there wasn’t a feeling that something was too strong for you. This meaning that it wasn’t something you couldn’t overcome in time. From your first larva to your first orb weaver or wolf spider, the game directed you accurately to what you should be able to handle by the time you see them and if you couldn’t handle them already, you weren’t far off of being able to.

In Grounded 2, I don’t feel this progression is the same at all. I’ve been consistently “blindsided” by certain enemies I’m facing and I’ve barely been playing the game at all. I’ve just hit “A Strange Warning” in the story and haven’t steamrolled to get here. I’ll spare enough detail for spoilers but I’ll lay out exactly how one of the missions went for me. I needed to get acorns to build the hatchery so I go to the nearest tree from your first ranger outpost. On the way there I see a small orb weaver, a big orb weaver, a big roach, a small scorpion, and a big scorpion. By this point I still have an eyepatch, a clover poncho, and aphid slippers with the first claws you’re able to build. I didn’t even really have the chance to explore too much before this because the missions hadn’t required it. After building the hatchery, I end up going to get ant eggs and find the orc weaver just sitting there with no mention or explanation so I leave him be. Only then to be thrown into a fight shortly after with an orc scorpion that I really only beat due to having a portable distraction with me. Immediately after this I’m told to put two spike strips down and handle three soldier ants, one orb weaver, and a spiderling. I died to this 6 times before I cheesed the spikes.

Each time I was met with the challenges I was met with it seemed like I should be further along than I am but I’m not that far in totality. Is this something only I’m feeling or have any of you felt the same?

Yo, am I going crazy or did they adjust the attack animations for Toe Biters in the PTB? I've fought a ton of these things and I don't remember them being so... comedically exaggerated. They look so silly now lol.

Edit: I misspelled "attack," I also look silly.

G2 | Base Build I am a hoarder.

I am a hoarder. Ever since grounded 1, I like to have a chest for each item. Even the bosses each get a chest for each item they drop. Tons of chest. I have a main area for all items. 99% is accessible with the crafting station. A few chest are just out of reach.

I have a room for smoothies and the cookery. Separate part of base but a chest for each item.

The upgrading room for weapons and armor has chest for the shards and the bug parts.

I have a wall for items used in building.

Even a room for back flow to drop items when the main chest are full in other rooms.

5 rooms for all items. All items get their own chest. I rarely drop any item I pick up. One day I will need 4000 plant fibers and 1200 weevil noses.

Who else is a hoarder or needs a chest for each item?

G2 | Discussion Devs are cooking with G2 bosses

Grounded 2 bosses are so much better than in the first game and we have to give the devs props. They are better in concept, design, and world building by a mile.

Most of the grounded 1 bosses were just bigger versions of enemies you already encounter in the game. Wasp queen was a bigger badder wasp, Director Schmector was a harder assistant manager, etc… While the wasp queen had cool world building with the big nest, the fight was a slog. The Brood mother was cool, especially for the devs first go at a boss, but got power creeped. And guess what if you like the fight so much, ITS IN GROUNDED 2. The only stand out boss was the Orchid Mantis. It had a really cool design and the armor was unique. But guess what again, they got mini versions running around grounded 2 so they got you covered.

Grounded 2 on the other hand has such sick ambitious bosses that it’s not even close between the two games. A exotic tarantula, a centipede, a literally bearded dragon. And they still managed to keep them in line with the rest of the game without them feeling out of place. Im hyped to see where the devs go next with these bosses because the concepts so far couldn’t be better.

The well crafted world building and aesthetics around these bosses makes them not feel like one off side quests on a check list. Personally I think its so interesting. First you find Axl’s terrarium and learn the recipe to lure him out based off a torn up receipt of what his owner used to feed him. You read about King Dozer being introduced into the park to hopefully clean up the tang, then find the lab he burrowed into and made his lair. And the latest with the centipede is the best yet. You find a termite infested wood pile where all the termites seem to be worshiping something and sacrificing to it. All this is a crazy step up. Not to mention the new armor and weapons look great and each fill a specific play style. Standouts to me are the aesthetics on the Axl and centipede gear.

I hope they add as many more of the optional bosses as possible as they keep developing the game because it really elevates Grounded 2 over the first game for me.
