Hello Rulers,
We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/EU5. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.
Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.
So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.
Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.
We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

This wasn't a very fast rush by me, with lots of inefficiencies and if you pushed it I bet you could do it around 50 years sooner.

Inspired by the recent post and decided to try out Ibadi Tlemcen -> Morocco -> Carthage in 200 yrs. The start is pretty strong with lots of hidden buffs throughout the campaign. If min-maxed appropriately I believe north africa including mamluks can be united by 1400.
The egypt tag would be a excellent tier III formable in between but does not seem to give the mamluk advances. Anybody knows if that changes if the mamluks are gone? Do you become the MAM tag if the mamluks are gone when you switch to Egypt?

Hello everyone! Today we've published a slightly late, Tinto Talk 128, you can find that here:
But beyond that, we also wanted to present you with something new for Europa Universalis V that weโve been working on. A new video Two Centuries That Made Spain: The History Behind EU5's Across the Pillars.
This is a project in which we collaborated with our very own lead Content Designer's Alma Mater, the University of Valladolid, to bring closer to the players the real History behind Across the Pillars, and how we have been working to represent it in the DLC. We hope that you enjoy it! Let us know below if you'd like to see more historical content like this in the future.

R5 cannot stabilise my economy as England. I was going great guns, then lost the HYW. Then I had to fight off a civil war. Iโve sold off lots of artwork to pay off my poxy loans. Iโve killed off most of my castles, I havenโt got that many unprofitable buildings. Most things are set to auto whilst I am learning. But I now see another uprising in Ireland on the way..

Flag Foundry started with something pretty small.
While playing Victoria 3, I realised that changing some of the flags I wanted to modify meant digging into the game files and understanding how patterns, emblems, layers, positions and subcompositions worked.
It wasnโt impossible, but it wasnโt particularly accessible either if you simply wanted to change a flag without first learning the entire internal structure of the system.
So I started building a visual tool to make that process easier.
Over time, Flag Foundry grew quite a bit. It went from being a way to modify existing flags into something closer to a small flag studio, where you can move, scale and rotate elements directly on the canvas, work with multiple layers, group them, add custom images, create variants and export them as a mod.
And while I kept developing it, I started looking into how Europa Universalis V handles flags and coats of arms.
That was when adapting it started to make a lot of sense.
EU5 does not simply use flat image files. It uses patterns, emblems, compositions, variants, dynasties, inherited colours and quite a bit of internal logic, so it shares many of the same ideas as the system I was already working with for Victoria 3.
So with version 0.50, Flag Foundry now includes Europa Universalis V support for the first time.
You can now choose between Victoria 3 and EU5 when opening the tool. On the EU5 side, you can already browse national coats of arms, dynasties, patterns and emblems, explore national families and their variants, check the conditions defined by the game, browse related dynasties, and preview or edit dynastic coats of arms.
The editor also lets you move, scale and rotate elements directly on the canvas, use proportional or free scaling, select multiple layers, group them, and add several custom images to the same composition.
That said, EU5 support has only just been added.
It is very likely that there are still quite a few things I will need to add, adapt or change as I understand better how the game uses all of these systems.
I also have significantly fewer hours played in EU5 than in Victoria 3, so Iโm sure more experienced EU5 players will come across situations, conventions or edge cases that I simply havenโt encountered yet.
That is one of the main reasons Iโm especially interested in feedback for this first version. If you find coats of arms that do not render correctly, variants that Flag Foundry interprets incorrectly, strange behaviour, or things that you think should work differently, please let me know.
Iโd also really love to see what people create with it. Historical variants, dynastic changes, alternate states, strange political experiments or absolute heraldic abominations. That is still probably the most fun part of the whole project.
Flag Foundry does not come with a copy of Europa Universalis Vโs assets. Instead, it reads the flags, coats of arms, patterns, emblems and dynasties directly from your own local EU5 installation.
When you connect the game for the first time, your browser will ask you to select the EU5 game folder and grant Flag Foundry permission to read it. Once connected, the tool builds its libraries from those files and lets you browse, preview and edit them visually.
Nothing is uploaded to a server. The game files remain on your computer and Flag Foundry only reads them locally through the browser.
game folder from your EU5 installation and grant the browser access.Flag Foundry does not modify the original Europa Universalis V files.
I always like to be transparent that Flag Foundry has been built with the help of AI. Iโm not a full-time developer, and this is mostly a fun personal project for me.

R5: Playing Bulgaria, and moved my capital to constantinople through an event, but i feel like its not really helpful anymore, after i conquered albania and serbia who will be fully cored and assimilated soon. Southern Greece down to Achaea is owned by my vassal that iโll annex eventually.
I dont plan to expand into anatolia at all, and i feel like i lose out on way too much proximity having my capital so far away from everything else.
Where would be good places to move it? Rivers does not leave great options, aside from wallachia, but thats also on the edge of my country. Back to Tarnovo? Somewhere in serbia?
I have 2 land governors, soon 3.
Sorry for shit photos

Hello all. I have lurked here for many months to see whatโs up with this game. Iโve played EU4 since high school so little under 10 years.
I am very comfortable with EU4 yet Iโve wanted to try EU5 out for a while. Is this game worth the price? Is EU5 better than 4? Is there a healthy mod community? I understand these are different games but how different is really what Iโm interested in.
A while ago I saw a post on here saying the game was fun but not fully developed or thought out yet. This prevented me from buying the game at the time. So I want to hear peopleโs thoughts before I purchase this and dive into for the next 10 years.
I Am playing Milan and just slowly but surely conquering Italy. Just got a notification saying I am the emperor. So I checked the HRE, and sure enough...
This was not my goal, I didn't want this German Border gore...

What's the approach to propagating proximity as Naples? I'm a new player and I'm thinking using naval for maritime patrol because the land is so hilly and mountainous but also most of the ports to reenter have very poor harbour capacity so I'm not sure. What do people generally do? I want to play tall as Naples so won't do much expanding besides Sicily and maybe papal states so I can untie all the lands in my market. Where do tall Naples players put their local governers?

I'm stuck on -200 manpower. I have no idea how to replenish my professional troops. I've tried increasing maintenance and trying to find a building which could help. I tried googling it to no avail. I only have 2 professional units. They were fully stocked just fine for decades, I lost some in a war, and now a few decades later they still don't want to reinforce.

Please help

I'm convinced Individualism is much stronger than Communalism in the late game, mainly because of its massive increase in migration within your own market, rather than migration to colonies.
This is extremely powerful for creating megalopolises and making culture conversion easier.
My strategy is to combine Expel Population + Encourage Migration to move pops from heavily populated provinces to my market capital, which I'm developing into a megalopolis. At the same time, reducing the population of other provinces makes them much easier to culture-convert.
I typically switch to Individualism during the Age of Reformation, once most of the values I need are close to 100. This lets me start building multiple megalopolises while accelerating culture conversion in provinces that would otherwise take ages.
The best part is that these actions complement each other: you reduce the population of provinces you want to culture-convert while moving those pops to your market capital, helping it grow into a megalopolis. You're essentially achieving multiple goals at once.
I'm not sure whether Individualism also improves the characters you get, but its migration bonuses alone make it extremely appealing in the late game.
How do you guys use Individualism? Do you also switch to it in the late game, or do you prefer sticking with Communalism throughout your campaign?
