For many, many years now, I've always wanted a real home theater setup, but it was just never in the cards. No space, not enough money to buy a new setup.
But over the last several years, I've been accumulating speakers and amps and after getting divorced and having the house to myself, I figured it was time.
I'm a huge vintage Infinity fan and that's the route I decided to go.
Finally got in the brain earlier this week and this is now complete, calibrated, and up and running.
Source: PC via HDMI, separate cables for audio and video.
Brain: Denon AVR-A100 - came up for less than 400 in good, working condition. It runs only the center and two rear speakers.
Front speakers: Infinity RS-III (1981), 120 on Craigslist, powered by an Acurus A2002 for less than 300 bucks that just needed a single fuse replaced.
Center channel: Infinity Kappa Video Series 1, for a 108 dollars. Needed a refoam, but that was a straight forward operation, I think the kit was around 25-30 or so.
Rear speakers: Infinity Modulus (1990), found a pair in good condition for 315, used some cheap wall mounts that are surprisingly sturdy and overbuilt for the size and weight of the Modulus rears. Pic in comments. Ignore the mess, por favor.
Subwoofer 1: M&K MX350THX Mk2, under 200 locally.
Subwoofer 2: Paradigm UltraCube 10, for 250ish.
The stand is a super cheap Amazon dealie that I went kinda nuts with while putting together, so it's glued at every joint AND I put a bunch of screws in it in the parts that have two layers of particle board, so it's surprisingly sturdy. But I will eventually do something unhinged and build my own stand.
I didn't want to become a woodworker, but when companies are out there charging insane prices for MDF with a plastic laminate and calling it "Ennobled wood", well... Out of spite I'm going to make my own.
The whole thing sounds ridiculously good with huge low-end power (I had no idea so many things would rattle in my house) and the center channel is incredible for dialogue.
I finally have what I've long wanted and it's glorious.
