WIBTA: I am avoiding my mother's birthday celebration.

• Upvotes

Genuine input required.

41yo hereI am ADHD - Clinically diagnosed and medicated, (and currently in the process of psychometric assessing for ASD), the only family member of my mother within 200km (150mi). A sibling has organised a large celebration for our mother's 70th. Inviting family from all over.

We are not a close family at all, and to me this is a real burden on my time.

I love that she is doing this for our mum. Here in lies the issues I am having: I do not socialise often, in large groups, with people I do not really know - this is who I am. I am in contact with my mother only, out of my family and extended family - they are not bad people, but they are not "my" people.
I would be missing out on the celebration however not missing out celebrating it with my mum our own way, out together, as I have often done.

So, Reddit, WIBTAH for skipping the celebration?

AITA Ex still lives with me

• Upvotes

AITA,

Had a boyfriend move in and we're together for a few years. He has 2 younger daughters that would come to visit every so often. He has a drinking problem and had got a few DUI over the last five years and ended up having to spend time in jail. After he got out of jail he still came back to live with me and I felt bad and didn't want to kick him out because then his kids wouldn't be able to come visit their dad. Since then his drinking caused it to where he lost visitation to have them on weekends. He also recently lost his job due to the drinking. Since he got out of jail we didn't continue our relationship as a couple but I still continued to do things like cook for him daily and all the food in the house I buy. I don't think it's a problem but my friends say how he takes advantage of the fact of how I am because if he's just here as a roommate now then why am I still doing things like feeding him and providing everything in the house he uses daily. My friends say that's not how roommates work you don't still keep doing things for him like you did as a girlfriend because he's not my problem anymore. And now that he lost his job doesn't see his kids anymore then why is he still living in my house. He doesn't buy any of the groceries or anything else in the house like soap etc bathroom stuff I buy it all. But my friends keep telling me why am I supporting him like he's my bf still cause he's not doing things for me like I'm his gf. So is he taking advantage of me cause I feel bad he don't have anywhere to go and if I'm cooking food I feel bad if I don't give him something too. Is that bad I feel like obligated to have to? Do roommates really only buy their own things usually? I've never had roommates before I've only ever lived with my mom and then always had a live in bf so I'm not sure how it is having just a roommate, what is the norm with living arrangements?

AITA for calling the police on a locally-owned small business?

• Upvotes

I (19F) and my friend (19F) were visiting Guatemala and decided to go get massages at a local spa. People were handing out flyers and coupons all over Antigua and the reviews were good.

We got to the spa, checked-in and waited ~15 minutes before being led to our “private” room for two. As one does when getting a massage, we close the door and strip ourselves of all dignity- bosoms, cheeks, and all- and lay face-down on our beds, nothing but a small sheet as protection. 20 minutes later, our masseuses enter and the massages commence.

Throughout the massage, the masseuses would randomly leave and return. I heard the door opening and closing many times, and a lot of the time I didn’t hear it close. I also heard more voices than there were supposed to be people in the room, and our masseuses were whispering and laughing to each other the whole time. Twice, someone came in and said something, only to be aggressively shushed by my masseuse. They were speaking Spanish so I couldn’t understand. Hindsight I should’ve asked them to close the door, but I didn’t think too much of it and thought I was being a paranoid tourist.

Near the end of my massage, my masseuse asked me to flip onto my back to massage my shoulders, and she put the sheet over me and one over my eyes. It slipped down and I saw the door wide open, people (including men) walking by and looking in, and then I saw a woman come in the room and take a video of us. I asked in very broken Spanish “¿es una fotografia?” My masseuse said yes, I asked por que and she just laughed at me.

After my massage, I Google Translated with the receptionist to tell her about the video and that we wanted them deleted and didn’t agree to it. She called her boss, who was the video-taker and had left, and she said she’ll come show us the videos and if we didn’t like them they wouldn’t use them as promotional videos. I was like um, no. We want them deleted either way. They told me not to worry and they’ll deal with it.

My friend’s massage was longer, so I told her what happened afterwards and she was shocked. We didn’t know where these videos of us pretty much naked, getting oiled up and massaged with most of my face visible, were going, being publicized for marketing or sent to some third-party website. We didn’t know if videos were taken before that, and were scared to go back and confront them as 2 young girls traveling alone. So, we called the police. After much Google Translating, they said they’d go over the next day to make sure the photos were deleted, and if not we submit a formal complaint. I’m still iffy bc that’s easily bullshitable for the spa.

I know it may just be a cultural difference and it’s more casual here, they may have not even thought about us possibly being uncomfortable. But we’re two clearly young girls and tourists. The massage was good at least. I genuinely don’t wish any ill on their business and I know I might just be being paranoid, so AITAH for calling the police?

AITA for telling my friends grandmother she can't use my art?

• Upvotes

So some back story to my story. I have a friend I went to highschool with and now almost four years out of highschool we are still good friends. He had an uncle pass away to cancer, he was super close and it was a really hard time for him. Somewhere in the mix of it his grandmother ended up "disowning" for some reason. So i did have some resentment to her. Well I had started making custom vinyl decals and offered to make one for him in remembrance of his uncle. I came up with a design I HAND DREW and made it into a vinyl. His grandmother later asked him for three of them and he said to start charging money. So i just asked for $25 a vinyl. She agreed and wanted to personally come pick them up. She then messages me asking if she asked some of the uncles friends if they'd want any if i could make more and i said of course. So she makes a face book post using AI so it doesn't show that actual size and is labeled as a sticker and not vinyl and says shes offering them and "SHE" wanted to do something in remembrance of him. There was no say in the fact her grandson wanted to make them or that it was my design. and that may sound selfish of me I get that. So at this point I'm already annoyed. She later gets back to me with 48 ORDERS. I thought that was amazing. however she asked that because it was a large order if she could lower the price to $15. I did the math and i would be loosing almost half of what I could make. So i said i could do $20. I would need to but more vinyl and tranfer tape. Plus it took about 30 min on each one just to cut and pick. She then responds "Well I have a gal over here who can do it for cheaper so I'll let you know." That really pissed me off cause this was something I had mainly done for my friend and now she wanted to take the design i made myself and do what she wanted with it. So i messaged her back saying i understood but i would appreciate her not using the design i had hand drawn and that if she chose to go with the other girl she would need to use a different design. AITA for that?

AITA for handling this fantasy football situation?

• Upvotes

For some context, my gf won her fantasy league with her friends last year and it was her first time playing, and her ego definitely became huge. So I invited her to join a league with my friends this year. It’s 14 of us and she’s the only girl. The thing is it’s week 5 and she is 5-0 with the best team, she’s doing way better than my team lol. Earlier this week I promised to give her Mike Evans for Juwan Johnson because i desperately need a consistent TE and she needs another WR I guess. But my friend offered me Tucker Kraft so I had to take it. She saw the trade in the chat and now she’s super mad at me because I “lied” to her and shes being so dramatic. She’s been upset the whole day because she was excited but I told her it isn’t personal this is just how fantasy works lol. Now I’m worried that she’s too emotional to do fantasy and be able to enjoy it. Yeah I probably should’ve told her I was doing a different trade but I didn’t think she’d be this upset, after all it’s a game. And her team is #1 right now, so I don’t see the urgency as she does like worse case scenario she loses this week. She will still be in first place. Anyway, I’m really wondering AITA here? I’ve tried to imagine her perspective but I really don’t think what I did was that bad…

AITA for changing my mind about suing someone whom dog bit me

• Upvotes

I 21F was bitten by a dog, level 3 bite meaning it broke the skin and punctured deeply. I told the owners i didn’t want to take legal action i just want shot records and the dog to be quarantined because i do fear rabies though and i’m a serious hypochondriac so the anxiety is/was real. Doctors told me rabies shots were unnecessary but the dog needs to be quarantined for safety. The owner decided to send me shot records from last year and basically told me to trust her. So i’m like thats not going to work and it’s suspicious. Animal control requires address and name of animal owner so i asked for them and she (the owner) said she don’t feel comfortable giving her address because of safety reasons so honestly i was like i understand that but also get real… I have her number and live in the same area. i saw them the same day later after the bite. I never had to deal with anything legally. The reason i’m changing my mind because the avoidance and a comment she made saying “i don’t think you should take legal action because the dog was on a leash and you were riding a bike on the sidewalk.” mind you i been telling her i wasn’t so that was unprovoked and i feel like she’s blaming me. I rode on the sidewalk because thats what people do also the road on that street is a historical preserved brick road and the dog and owner’s boyfriend who was walking it at the time wasn’t on the sidewalk they were in the grass!! the dog went out its way to bite me sooo? hello?

AITA for being upset that my husband got my a charger for my birthday?

• Upvotes

I don’t like when people complain about gifts. I do think its the thought that counts. But…a charger?
I just get upset by the lack of effort. The charger is nice. I can charge my phone and watch at the same time. But its just so impersonal. Its like I am a co-worker. He does this every birthday, every Christmas. He never gets me anything he can’t find on amazon for under $30. It’s not the money though. He is a good provider. It’s that he just doesn’t seem to want to make something special for me anymore. I feel slighted by it. Like just get me something fun. It makes me so sad. Am I the ahole?

POO Mode Activated 💩 AITA for forgetting pronouns and calling them humans?

• Upvotes

I am a person with bad memory but I try my best while having good intentions

I mistakenly said "He" or "She" because I didn't knew people in my friend group to be either Trans or that they identified with a different gender

So after a while, I decided to refer to them as "humans" or "person" because I noticed they where getting uncomfortable with me asking often since I was unable to properly remember

Then, people in my friend group where apparently fed up with my solution and told me I was being disrespectful and that I should learn it at once or keep it noted somewhere, because I was being lead on by looks/voice when saying "He/She" and that was stupid of me to do

I apologized for that but also inquired that it's hard for me to look at someone that looks/sound like a woman/men and fight against my brain to use "He/she" without thinking, so my solution to refer to them as "people" or "humans" where my way of not using wrong pronouns and making them correct me while getting uncomfortable about it

I was then cornered, cause I was told I was making people uncomfortable one way or another and that I should either use notes or not say anything at all (Which only works on certain situations but not all of them. What if I meet someone eye to eye?)

I am autistic and sometimes I am well aware I that I can sound like an asshole without meaning it, so I decided to make a quick test and, I admit it, I decided to be a bit stupid on purpose

From that point on, everytime I would refer to someone without public knew pronouns, I would purposely use the contrary word to describe them

looks and sounds like a male? I would reffer to it as "She/her"

Looks and sounds female? "He/Him"

Once noted, that caused an uproar about me being many things, but definitely NOT funny

I inquired how that was any different from knowing no better and meeting someone for the first time without any prior info

I would either have to "Pronoums please?" before every interaction, including the ones I already had but forgot

or

I would have to use common sense and guess based on appearance and voice tone

I also said that if you sounds like a male and look like a male but actively wants to be considered a female, that's fine

but the moment you get all worked up because people keep "getting it wrong", then you need professional help cause that's just delusional

I was called transfobic and kicked out of the group

AITA for leaving my friendgroup of 10-12 years?

• Upvotes

Hi guys, long story short. I (20M) left a trio friendgroup recently this year as I felt like we were drifting apart far. We had been friends for around 12 years since primary school but many many things has changed since then.

Primarily it started from 3-4 years ago when we attended our own polys (for some reason,we never decided to go to the same poly lmao).

I started dealing with some gambling problems/depressive episodes (2-3 times) and occastionally would leave the friendgroup as I just thought that maybe I should just suffer alone since I would just be a parasite to this friendgroup. For friend A, he had social anxiety but thankfully it became better for him and he found a girlfriend since year 1. For friend B, he found a new friend group who he grew super close with and started meeting them a lot . We slowly started drifting apart but we would still meet up maybe once every 2-4 weeks to talk to each other and catch up.

I have been noticing something tho, every single time I had my depressive episode or I am suddenly not free, they would just meet up among themselves which I of course, was fine with as it was my issue. However, when either friend A or friend B is suddenly not free and we were supposed to meet that day, suddenly the other one would not want to hang out with me eventhought he is free.

Recently, they have been discussing some business stuffs with each other like one piece selling on tiktok and they made quite a lot. However, they didnt share with me at all which just made me feel even more left out. Even when they had relationships issues, they only pmed each other. Even when we meet up,they always just talk to each other about the topics they were talking about last time and wouldnt catch me up with the information. We have a group chat by the way with only the 3 of us.

This year, friend B also found his girlfriend which was really really neat. However, with that,it meant that we were only meeting once every 3 months since they both rather meet their girlfriends 5-6 times a week. 3 months ago,I had another episode and needed someone to talk to. I texted the groupchat and was left on read instead. After a while,I pmed them and one decided that doing grab food delivery was more important while another decided that they were too busy to meet up with me. I just felt sad as I knew I had my issues but when they had their issues and needed someone to talk to,I was there for them immediately. We lived 3 bus stops within each other so it wasnt that inconvenient too.

Sad to say,I left the groupchat and blocked them which yes,its a bixxh move but tbh,I think it might be better that I am not with them anymore. I think everyone just grew and had different priorities. Not sure what everyone thought about this? Thanks for reading as well.

AITAH For Wanting My Dad To Stop Working So Much?

• Upvotes

I 20F and my Dad 41M have always had a good relationship up until recently. For context my Mom and Dad are separated, so me and dad started a “daddy daughter date trend - and continued the trend even after I became more independent. This time is really sacred for me as this is the only time I see my dad throughout the week, and I avoid anything that might disrupt it.

Recently my dad has taken a new leadership role at work, and while it’s something he’s been wanting for a while - it’s made our date nights far in between or lacking in genuine quality time. I usually get there in the evening when he’s leaving work but even if he’s not as his desk he’s still responding to emails, taking work calls or even going back into the office on rare occasions. At one point in a previous post he had left me waiting at a restaurant for an hour and a half because he couldn’t stop a conversation with a co-worker. I had had a heart to heart with him, and I thought I finally got through to him about how swept aside it made me feel.

The most recent date my boyfriend was coming to join us - which was something I was really looking forward to because usually one or the other is too busy to join.
I hoped because this was such a rare moment for us, that he was wrapping up work so we could really spend some time together. We got over to the house around 5:00 and shortly after Dad called saying he would be running about 30 minuets late, which ended up being an hour or so instead. When we did eventually get to dinner, the entire time he was on the phone checking emails and practically ignoring any attempt we made to finish a conversation. We had talked about playing some Mario kart when we got back home, but instead he went into the office to wrap up something for work.

This made me really upset, and I felt really terrible because not only did he shove off our plans - but he also did it when someone I deeply care for was RIGHT THERE.
I just feel put on the back burner, like I’m never a priority for my Dad anymore - almost seems as if he prioritizes work over spending time with me. I ended up crying with my boyfriend later that evening - and crashed pretty hard. While I was asleep Dad got home and my boyfriend politely told him how much it affected me - so he did end up apologizing later. But at this point the apology just didn’t fix anything, The time that I could have had with two of my favorite people long but passed - and I wont get that chance for quite some time.

I just want to understand if I’m justified for feeling this way - or if I’m expecting too much from my dad. I understand that things don’t always work out, but I feel like I’ve done everything I can to make things work and get that cherished time with my dad. I don’t care so much about the being late factor if it means I get some quality time with my dad, even for just an hour.
AITAH??

CLARIFICATION: hey just wanted to give some clarification on some facts that were worded poorly

  1. Im completely happy and exited for my dad and new job opportunity, and i don’t literally want him to stop working - just to set aside the phone for the hour we have dinner together.
  2. This job is “new” as in he’s going into his second year of this position. Granted its baby steps up the chain- but he’s had the position for quite some time.
  3. My dad is not

married or ever was

  1. to my mom, they separated when i was two - he is happily single and a very independent person, which in turn has rubbed off on me. I myself am going to college and have my own job, I’m completely financially separate.

  2. Im understand that work life balance is hard, I’m still figuring that out for myself. But i also feel like out of both my work and school life that if I’m able to carve out some proper time- i feel its unfair that he doesn’t do the same

AITA for getting upset that my (23F) Boyfriend (24M) answered his friends calls during an argument?

• Upvotes

We argued the other day and it went pretty bad. We had a day to breathe and get our thoughts together. He eventually came to me to talk it out and started the conversation, we texted it all. He started to disappear from chat when it got really serious, disappeared for 20-30 mins at a time. I then told him he either stays in this conversation or doesnt start it at all. Keep in mind we were both at home doing nothing. So after i told him to stay attentive he said he was making a sandwich, that annoyed me but he then stayed to talk. To then his girl bsf (im completely okay with and theyre without a doubt platonic) calls him. He answers immediately, so texts me and is on call with her while she explains a fight with her bf.

I tell him to talk to her because i knew it was serious but it still felt weird to me that he answered immediately. We then fixed things and i told him to make sure she was okay, because i do like her and theyre great friends, amazing respect and boundaries.

A day after this he tells me he had a funny story, this girl hes friends with Rose bullied me in highschool, were okay now but he knows i am NOT fond of her. He says she called him recently to tell him a fun fact about his country involving womens private area?? He said it was random haha funny. I said “thats weird of her, when did she call?” He said during our argument.

So he answered two calls from women which yes i know they arent a threat to our relationship thats not my issue. Its the fact he answered two calls during an argument?? Its not the first time he’s answered others calls, texts immediately while were having a serious conversation. I snapped at him and said he needs to treat our serious relationship conversations with respect. Stop answering calls from everyone especially for stupid calls like that, i felt bad for his bestfriend but again couldnt he of answered later?? Am i just going insane?

WIBTA for buying family sports tickets while excluding myself

• Upvotes

Hey, I’m (21F) thinking of getting my family tickets for a sporting event for the holidays. It would be a somewhat expensive gift for myself to buy. I would be buying 5 tickets already around $250 total. For perspective, this is half my weekly paycheck seeing as I am in school. In years past I have always done individual gifts, usually multiple, and those gifts have costed the about the same amount as this gift (if not a little more) for tickets. I do not want to end the tradition of giving them something however also do not want to spend more money then I need to for a gift they would take as inconsiderate.

I however, do not like sports at all, and therefore do not want to spend money on a ticket for myself and bf (24M) whom I’d want to come with me, if I went. I am also moved out, when the rest of my family still live together.

While, I personally view this as a nice gift and an experience the family can share, and look back on. My coworkers gave me second thoughts, I brought this up to them and they thought it was rude/off putting to be given tickets to something I would not want to go to. I do not see it this way and want to open it up for more opinions.

AITA for cheating ??

• Upvotes

I (25F) met my bf (31M) in 2024 at work when I was his manager, and we eventually moved in together as a family with my 1.5 year old son, whom he stepped up to care for. Despite being a good father figure, his extreme jealousy and controlling behavior quickly surfaced; he constantly interrogated me about my past and my baby daddy, and whenever I smiled or spoke to male coworkers, he would retaliate by openly flirting right in front of me with a female coworker he had a past with. When I unexpectedly got pregnant on birth control, I was terrified and repeatedly said I wanted an abortion because our relationship felt unsafe, but he manipulated, guilted, and threatened to abandon me until I gave in. The emotional abuse peaked when he told me I "ruined his life" right after an ultrasound and completely ignored me at work to flirt with that same girl again. Out of absolute despair and rage, I vented to a visiting manager who ended up kissing me. Months later, when he found messages about the kiss, he weaponized it to call me a whore, justify treating me terribly, and force me through a miserable pregnancy only for me to discover, one month after giving birth to our daughter, that he had been secretly maintaining a full emotional and financial relationship with his ex-girlfriend abroad the entire time we were together. When I confronted him about his double life, he gaslit me, refused to genuinely apologize, and insisted we were "even," falsely equating my single reactive moment to years of his deliberate deceit, control, and emotional abuse. In your opinion, who is the Ahole?

AITA for refusing to apologize to my SIL for supposedly ruining her reputation?

• Upvotes

My husband, “Mark,” and I are in our late 50s and recently married. We knew each other for decades but began dating after I moved back to the area during COVID. His family is close, and his mother expects everyone to attend family gatherings. The family includes my FIL, MIL, SIL, BIL, Mark, me, and Mark’s two adult sons.

SIL has a history of criticizing Mark, holding grudges, and being insulting. For example, at my stepson’s birthday, she gave him a gift card saying, “I will take you and buy you some shoes that aren't from Walmart, unlike your dad.” This was early in our relationship, and I had no idea she was like that. Her parents made her apologize to Mark the next day.

To complicate matters, I have life-threatening allergies to several things, including peppers, fragrances, and flowers. SIL dismisses them as drama and makes little effort to accommodate me. As a result, I’ve had multiple reactions at her home.

About four years ago, SIL and BIL hosted a Father’s Day gathering. SIL insisted on making kebabs with peppers because she thought her dad liked them, despite my severe allergy. We asked her to prepare separate pepper-free food and keep it separate for me. She agreed.

When we arrived, the peppers she cooked made it difficult for me to breathe inside her house. SIL assured us the food was safe, but I struggled despite my usual allergy medication. I learned from my MIL that the chicken was marinated. I asked for the ingredients, but SIL dismissed my questions and said I didn’t need to worry about it. I had to insist 3 times before she gave me the ingredients.

I went outside considering calling 911. When my MIL came to check on me, I told her, “My SIL keeps trying to kill me off.” I meant I felt unsafe, not that SIL had deliberately poisoned me. I was sick for days and missed work. SIL blamed me for not providing enough information and never apologized.

Afterward, Mark and I began hosting family gatherings for safety reasons. Everyone, including SIL and BIL, attended without incident.

Months later, while we were planning my birthday, my FIL called Mark, furious with me. SIL claimed I was still talking about her, had told someone outside the family about the incident, and had posted about it online, damaging her reputation.

I never posted anything about her. We did tell friends what happened at the time because I was explaining my illness. There was nothing to apologize for. Mark defended me, but my birthday was ruined. SIL and BIL now refuse to attend family events if I’ll be there, and his parents expect Mark to fix things.

I suspect one of Mark’s close friends may be stirring things up with SIL, but I can’t prove it.

AITA for refusing to apologize when I never posted about her or tried to damage her reputation?

AITA for answering honestly when a coworker asked me if I thought she was annoying?

• Upvotes

I work at a bank with a bunch of mostly female coworkers. We get along in a teasing manner and we’re always busting chops in good fun. One of the coworkers I get along with best, let’s call her Becca, does nothing but argue with me, but everyone can tell that it’s from mutual affection and not animosity. Our supervisor even gets mock angry at us telling us to cut it out and that we fight like we’re siblings.

Well, we have a coworker, let’s call her Ashley, who joins in on the fun in a way that nobody else likes. When the rest of us (a group of 10) roast each other, we’re having fun. When she joins in, she’s just saying mean shit. She sees our annoyed faces and laughs, proclaiming “I love being a bitch” or “I love pissing people off” or some variation. My theory is that she sees how I am with Becca and thinks that this is the best way to connect with me. It’s not. Not the way she does it. It’s just exhausting. But when I find myself in this situation with an unpleasant person, I let off steam by being equally as mean to them. All our coworkers recognize that I can’t stand her, but she seems to think that I’m reciprocating affection. I’m not. I’m genuinely being mean.

One day, Ashley flat out asks me if I think she’s annoying. I say “Yes” very matter of fact. She laughs and says “no, for real. Do you think I’m annoying?” I let out a light chuckle and say “yea. You’re really annoying.” She gets teary-eyed and says “ok, so seriously, I have this thing where I don’t like for people to think I’m annoying. I’m insecure about it so it really gets to me if someone thinks I’m annoying.”
I tell her “ok, then stop being annoying and I’ll stop thinking you’re annoying.”

She turns red and fights back tears. Now I’m genuinely pissed off. She has made it very clear. Not only is she aware that she’s irritating, it’s her goal. And the fact that she has the balls to cry about it? I tell her “I don’t know why you’re surprised. You know this about yourself. You are proud of it. You say ‘I love being a bitch. I love pissing people off.’ And even though I see you full-on crying right now, I don’t feel the least bit bad for you. You do it on purpose.”

She sat quietly, sulking. Frankly, I enjoyed the silence.

All of my coworkers love this story, but when I’ve told it to anyone else who doesn’t know her, they say I am an asshole for being so blunt. So I bring it before the Reddit council. AITA for being honest when she asked me if she was annoying?

AITA for not giving my step father my headphones?

• Upvotes

Trow away account because my step-father family knows the main one.

I (19 female) still live with my parents, my mom (39 years-old) and my step father (38 years old), becuase moving out wasn't option yet i still live in my childhood home but i pay rent and both my mom and step dad told me it was perfectly fine for me to stay while i pay food and rent, something i was perfectly fine about.

So recently i had a fight with my step-father, Honestly we aren't very close but we are civil, i respect him but i don't see him as a dad but hes not a monster and my mother is happy so i don't have any complaints on that aspect, the problem was that yesterday he had to go to a work meeting and asked me if i could give him my headphones.

The problem is that each time I share something with him, he breaks them or they stop working minutes after he gives them back, he has already broken 2 of my preview headphones, both were brand new, so when he asked me I told him 'I'm sorry but I won't, I don't trust you to take care of them while you have them'

He started to demand me to give them to him because they were just 'headphones', i told him i buy them with my own saved money and unless he promised to buy me new ones if he broke these then i won't give them to him.

He left angry and with no headphones, my mom is in my side, saying i did the right thing by being firm and that she would talk with him but my step father Sister (Call her Jess) sent me a text calling me a spoiled brat about it.

So, was i the Asshole?, is it is then i would fully apologize but i wanna ask to be sure.

AITA for letting my dogs poop in my neighbour's yard?

• Upvotes

I was walking my two male Labradors yesterday afternoon. They'd been cooped up inside the house all day, so they were pretty excited to finally get outside.

As I was walking past one of my neighbour's houses, I noticed their teenage son struggling to lift a massive box by himself. There were also several bed frame parts lying around, and from what I could tell, he was trying to move the stuff inside (he also needed help moving the old stuff out onto the porch).

My neighbours had only recently moved in, and I don't really know the family, but the kid was clearly having a hard time so I stopped and offered to help cos moving all that stuff alone looked like a nightmare.

I had both dogs on their leads, so I asked him if he minded if I let them off while I helped. He said it was fine, so I let them go, figuring I'd be able to lift things more easily without having to manage two large dogs at the same time. Both dogs made a beeline for the garden. Since they'd been inside all day, I knew there was a good chance they'd need to go to the toilet, too, but figured id just sort that afterwards.

I spent roughly 30 minutes helping his son move the furniture. We got the old bed frame parts and other stuff out onto the porch and moved the new items inside. Before leaving, I went back to get the dogs and did a quick scan of the garden for any poop. I found one pile, picked it up, and took it with me. I thought I'd got everything, so I put the dogs back on their leads and continued my walk.

Later that night, the father came over to my house and asked me to come and pick up the dog poop I'd left in his yard. Apparently, I had missed a pile near the edge of his driveway. I apologised and said something along the lines of, "Oh, sorry, I must have missed that one." I genuinely hadn't seen it when I checked earlier. He started calling me some (pretty rude) names. I was honestly taken aback by how hostile he was, especially considering I'd just spent half an hour helping his family .

AITA for this?

AITA for telling my sister that her tattoo is immature?

AITAH for telling my sister that she should’ve gotten a different tattoo?

I (20f) have five tattoos. All of which are very sentimental and meaningful pieces of ink. I wanted them to be this way so I wouldn’t grow to hate them in a few years, because tattoos are expensive and painful, and removal is 10x worse.

My sister (22f) only has two tattoos. A small one on her wrist (the logo of a K-pop band she really likes), and recently a Hello Kitty tramp stamp (This tattoo is the one I’m asking about.)

She did tell me that she was going to get this tattoo a couple of weeks ago, and I tried to talk her out of it. Not because it’s a tramp stamp (I’m planning mine soon), but because it’s Hello fucking Kitty, and she’s 22.

It’s one thing to like Hello Kitty (I love Hello Kitty, okay?), but it’s another thing to A: Get a tattoo of her when you’re an adult, and B: get a tramp stamp of her.

I tried to explain that she’s not going to like Hello Kitty forever, but she wouldn’t listen to me. Not only that, it’ll be really hard for her to get a job after college with that tattoo, and the degree she wants. Plz just let me know if Itah or not.

TL;DR—AITAH for telling my sister that her tattoo is immature, and she’ll regret in a few years?

Edit: Okie, thank you guys for your feedback! I do appreciate it a lot, and I’ll take it into consideration. Also, why is everyone so negative? You guys don’t know what our life paths look like, and I was genuinely trying to look out for my older sister like she has for me a bazillion times🫩. Was it my wording? I feel like everyone is needlessly attacking me.

AITA lady thought I was cutting in front of her when I wasn't

I (late 20s and only young guy around in this situation) was in a fairly long line for library book sale, there were stairs going down to the sale area, lady (maybe 50s or 60s which was about age of most people in the line) in front was a bit slow and holding the railing so i walked to the left of behind her for a bit while shes holding rail. then in very short corridor to entrance of library sale room I was directly right behind her. for some reason she briefly stops, turns around, and says something in accusatory snooty way about how im trying to cut in front of her. im immediately taken aback and best i could come up with saying was annoyedly "im behind you". (my reasoning thinking that how am i trying to cut if im literally behind her). I wasn't walking bumper to bumper pushy, I was walking slow and calm like everybody else behind me.

I never intended to cut in front and the corridor was so small it would have been literally impossible to cut in front, and when at stair area when I was at left (still behind her) I never made any movement that would suggest cutting in.

its an upper class sort of area so when I said "im behind you" another lady behind me made a sort of taken aback sound.

not sure if I am the asshole in this situation. felt like a curb your enthusiasm episode or something.

AITA for telling a mother to turn the sound of her device off?

I (47-year-old dad) was in the lobby of my daughter's dance studio; the lobby holds probably 20-25 people, there are about 10 in there as this happens.

A mother with one child presumably in a class and another next to her (a boy of about 8) took out a device (Nintendo Switch?) and started watching a show/movie with her son at a pretty high volume. Roughly equivalent to the level you'd use in your living room. Maybe a touch lower, but nowhere near "we need to keep this low because there are other people in the room" level.

After about 2-3 minutes, I asked her, with some exasperation, "could you please turn the volume off so the rest of us don't have to listen to it?" She glared at me from a few seconds, to the point I asked her why she was glaring. She responded that I could have asked the question in a more polite and less rude manner. This is absolutely correct, but in my mind irrelevant; her behavior was intentionally rude enough that she gave up any expectation of a polite response (as if, say, she had bumped into me or something like that).

She went on to say that it was a dance studio, and therefore loud; to me, this is an argument *against* playing devices at (nearly) full volume but she said I should relax. At some point in here I noted that the screaming coming from the video was inappropriate given there are three and four year olds in classes there; she replied "it's not screaming, it's Toy Story".

To me, the behavior is just simply and obviously inappropriate and inexcusable. There are very few explanations for playing a device like that in public at that volume. But I am a little weird around noises and rules, so I need a check here. And I suppose there are levels. So...

  1. AITA for being irritated at the behavior at all? In other words, in the lobby of a facility that serves children, it's not a big deal if parents are playing videos on speakers without headphones. I pretty firmly believe the answer here is 'no', but, again, I need a check.

  2. AITA for speaking to the woman directly instead of reaching out to an employee? My defense would be that I don't want to bring staff into it. It's not the job of an administrative assistant at a dance studio to police the behavior of adults in the lobby.

  3. AITA for speaking to her in an admittedly exasperated way, particularly in front of her child? This is the only aspect of it that right now I have some guilt about. But she was literally watching it with him, there was no ability to make my statement quietly or to the side. Had the opportunity presented itself, I would have preferred to make my point away from her son. But I also did not see the need to listen to the speaker for another 20 minutes before the class ended.

I feel I did nothing wrong, but, again, I need a check. I look forward to your judgments.

AITA for discussing medical procedures with my parents?

hi all! my[25F] parents[53M &47F] are challenging me to post this because they are sure they are right.

Today, I had gone to the gyno for a well woman exam. I didn’t discuss anything about the exam, I just told them i was excited about something my doctor discussed with me. I told them that I am getting an IUD so maybe I won’t suffer so much month to month, but that I had told the doctor I was scared on the tenaculum, and explained to my parents that it was a sharp clamp that holds the cervix. But also mentioned that the doctor actually told me that they are now regularly offering pain meds and numbing, which is exciting!

ofc when i said this, they like recoiled in disgust. they said it’s incredibly inappropriate to talk about anything “down there” with your father. I said that it is no different than explaining any other procedure, but they said i was being too graphic and gory(?) and i’m not married to my dad so i should be talking vague at most. to the “we’re not a couple” argument, i said it’s not sexual, it’s for my health. i do work in the medical field, so i thought i was being pretty clinical but to them anything mentioning “privates” is too much.

So reddit, AITA for explaining a fairly necessary medical procedure and clinical advancements to my parents?

oh so ETA: here’s the best part. he told me “you know how i have a hard time not picturing things! i don’t want to imagine you like that!” (to be fair he does struggle from like intrusive visual thoughts)

AITA for changing my WiFi password and not sharing it with my parents downstairs anymore?

I (38F) pay for my own internet. My parents rent the main floor apartment in my building, I rent the upstairs. Same landlord.

For a couple years I let them use my WiFi for free to save them money when they were going through tough times.

For context, I'm the outcast since I was a kid. Heavy triangulation — my mom and her husband will tell me one thing, tell my sibling another, then watch us fight. Blatant favouritism — my sibling (32F) can do no wrong, I get blamed for everything. I've been told my whole life I need to be a "better person" while being treated like garbage.

This Thanksgiving they had dinner in the main floor apartment. They invited my sister and her daughter. They did not invite me and my daughter, who live directly upstairs.

My daughter was hurt too. They exclude her while they treat her cousin (my half-sister's daughter) like gold — same pattern they did with me and my sister.

I'm the one who shovels snow so they can move their cars, brought them food when they couldn't afford it, and listen to their woes every day. Meanwhile they give my sister rides to work every day, babysit her kid — things they'd never do for me.

After that dinner I changed my WiFi password and said I'm not comfortable sharing it anymore after being excluded at the holidays.

Now they are threatening me for taking away WiFi over "one dinner" and that I'm selfish. The thing that hurts is they don't seem upset about hurting us, only about losing the WiFi.

AITA for not sharing my WiFi anymore?

AITA for refusing to go to my father's funeral because of my sister?

I (27m) just recently lost my father to cancer and after a quick battle with cancer dying only two months after diagnosis we will be having a funeral for him next week but since Monday I've been fighting with my family over the inclusion of my sister at his funeral. The reason why is because while he was in hospital fighting for his life my older sister along with her husband and my mother were visiting with him and even sleeping at the hospital just to be with him all while my second sister(older than me but younger than the first mentioned) stayed at home complaining no one was willing to watch her kids for her to see him. My issue with that came from the fact her husband was just outright refusing to watch the kids on his own and instead of forcing him to she just accepted she wouldn't see her dying father before he passed. Fast forward a few days before his death and I learn that 200$ was taken by my sister who couldn't visit him and no one was made aware so to my knowledge that classifies as stealing. After learning of her stealing from our father while he was dying I became enraged with my family for downplaying what she did as simply "borrowing without asking" i told them that if she is at the funeral i would not be there and they are saying I'm wrong for this but i don't think i am. What do you all think?

AITA for being with a friend who pissed of my partner?

alright so long story short a year or two ago my friend accidentally pissed of my current partner.
They were talking to eachother by a video call and my friend said that my partner looked like someone who just ate a single piece of toasted bread not even with butter which understandably hit a bit closer to home than it was intended.
At first i was completely on their side because how in the hell did that come up and they understandably cut contact with that mutual soon after. When i heard about it i asked my friend what had happened and they told me their side of the story. My friend who had said the thing explained to me that they thought they were just roasting each other which is fair, but i also told him that my partner had struggled with eating before and explained that situation and how it effected my partner. After that it just didn’t come up again because he had no way to contact my partner since they had blocked him on literally everything (understandably so) this becomes relevant in a bit.

So two years into the future we’re hanging out and i told my partner about it and how they felt like i was excusing his behavior because it had happened once before in school were he said the wrong thing with good intentions. Justifying it by saying ”he hasn’t done it to you”. (which he has because we roast eachother to the point where the sun’s core seems like a cooling wind)
I said that while what he said was very inappropiate and hurtful he wasn’t aware of and if he did he would never have said that to begin with.
that conversatione essentially ended with them saying ”he hasn’t apologized and he should just grow up”.

a few days later i decided to talk to my friend about this and the whole deal and he was more than willing to apologize it because he had fucked up but couldn’t contact them about the apology because they had blocked him on literally everything.

When i was with my partner again i told them about how he want to apologize for what he said in which they responded with ”good for him”.

Now again it seems that i have pissed my partner off by being with him and i genuinely dont know how to proceed. Because while i understand how hurtful it was since i also struggle with eating it was a genuine mishap, because even i didn’t know that about them. While i understand their anger it also feels unreasonable to hang on two a grudge for over 2 years due to mishap that he wasn’t even aware of for like one and a half years.
So AITA?

AITAH for ruining a holiday because of anxiety, when I wanted to cancel the holiday 6 weeks out from it because of the recent anxiety?

I (35m) am currently on a 2 week holiday with my husband (37m). I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety recently and proposed to cancel or postpone the holiday 6 weeks out from it as I didn't feel mentally ready. Husband didn't like this idea as his birthday was to happen on our holiday, I agreed to go hoping I could get my anxiety under control. We are now on the holiday and he's annoyed with me because I can't really leave the hotel for long because of the anxiety. I want to, I'm just finding ot really hard to. Am I the asshole for "ruining" the holiday despite saying I didn't think I could mentally handle it right now? To add, we have been to many overseas locations together and I have been fine on all others, this time I've just got the added anxiety to deal with. Edit - yes I am getting treatment and partner is aware of this. Edit 2 - we are going out and doing some things, he is free to go out when he wants to and he is, Im just not joining on every single thing.
