Portable AC Portable AC sometimes makes buzzing noise when the motor starts up.
So I have a Whynter Arc 131 GD dual hose AC and fortunately don't have to use it all the time. Anyways I have noticed that sometimes when the compressor kicks on the motor will make a brief buzz sound as it comes on. Other times I can turn it on and the unit barely makes a peep outside of the fan blowing the air. Does anyone know what might be causing this or if it's anything to worry about?
Thanks.

Heat Pumps Is this filter too small? Seems like a lot of extra gap here.
New homeowner with new AC unit so don’t know much here other than my smart thermostat is telling me it’s time to change the filter. Existing one looks significantly smaller that the space its installed in.

General How do I do this please?
I am renovating my house, and while it is being knocked about, I would like to install air-conditioning. I have found a really nice looking system that is in my budget. I am an engineer, and am also qualified in electrical installation. But I am not an aircon guy.. would I be able to run the power and all the pipes, mount everything on the walls and the like; to keep the costs down, and then get a proper aircon chap to connect the gas bits?

Window AC Was advised to remove the "subbase plug" on my GE air conditioner, due to condensation issues, but...
The manual says it could be in one of two places, but I don't see either one. And I don't see anyone discussing this online. Where do I go to ask people to post a picture of theirs?

Heat Pump New brand GE Heat Pump no cooling
I need advice or to know if this has happened to anyone else.
I installed a new GE Heat Pump unit. After installing it, the low line was reading 90 PSI. I added refrigerant R454B and it wouldn't go above 125 PSI on the low line and 300 PSI on the high line. The low-line temperature is 68°F and the high-line temperature is 75°F. The thermostat setup is correct. When I turn on Cooling, it doesn't cool, and when I turn on Heat, it continues running in Cooling mode. I configured the thermostat to 'O' and to 'B', and it keeps doing the same thing and the fun is running good. Please help

Window AC Recommend me some Window type AC's in PH
Living in Philippines. My room is pretty small probably around 5 steps to get from one side to another. I'd prefer something really quiet and that would save me money on my electricity bills.
No budget but I do prefer the bang for buck recommendations heh.

Midea U Install in short window opening
I have a window that is a half inch shy of what they state is the minimum opening, 13" vs 13.5"
Does anyone that's installed one of these think I will be able to pull it off, or do I need to look for a different unit?
Thanks!

Window AC My Windmill AC's, bad to begin with, are all breaking after a few years.
Just wanted to share my experience, since I wish I'd come across more reports like this when I was deciding what AC to buy for my New York City apartment.
I was looking for a couple of window units for two small rooms, both less than 150 square feet. I came across the small Windmill unit. 6,000 BTU's, looks less terrifying than many other AC's from an aesthetic perspective, and seemed to have a relatively invested brand behind it.
I bought two of them. One arrived broken, and Windmill replaced it. No problem. Before we even got to the peak of summer, it was clear, though, that they were having a really hard time cooling the small rooms. I reached out to Windmill and asked if this was normal. They suggested that perhaps one of the sounds I was hearing in the bedroom unit indicated a problem, so they replaced that one. But it didn't get any better.
Both rooms hardly ever got cool, not only during summer but even now. I'm writing this during the fall, and the unit in my office is on its coldest setting and can hardly get a chill going throughout the office, even with the door closed. I tolerated the one in my bedroom, but last year it started going on the fritz. The electrical system was shot, it would randomly cycle through different modes, change the temperature up to the highest setting and I couldn't turn it back down. I told Windmill, but since it was after the one-year window, they said they couldn't do anything about it. It wasn't their problem that the electricity thing rendered the unit unusable, even though nothing had happened to cause that. It was just their product degrading in a very short time.
That was disheartening because I'd hoped that these units would last more than a couple years without manufacturing defects making them useless. Anyway, I replaced my bedroom unit with a small Friedrich (which works extremely well in comparison). But just today, the same electricity problems are starting to happen on my office unit. Which means that both units I bought from Windmill, without anything on my end to cause it, have developed electricity issues that rendered them useless within a few years of purchase.
So in summary: the units are extremely, laughably weak, cannot cool at all. And, they apparently have terrible longevity. Waste of money.

Question How to use AC efficiently in a tropical climate
We've recently moved to a tropical climate where it is around 32ºC and 80% humidity for pretty much the whole year. I grew up in Scotland and don't have the faintest idea about how to use AC properly. We just want to be comfortable while keeping electricity bills as low as we reasonably can given my girlfriend works from home all day Mon-Fri.
The photos show what we have in every room (along with ceiling fans in some rooms + multiple pedestal fans), and we keep the AC units off and doors closed for the rooms we are not using for >1 hour (is that too low a threshold?), such as the bedrooms during the day.
What I'm most confused about is all the different settings.
The remote has:
- Cool mode, which also allows ECO mode to be applied as long as the temperature is not set below 24ºC.
- Dry mode, which is by far the best at reducing humidity but also seems to permanently cool the room while it's on, regardless of the set temperature, more than we need.
- Auto mode, which seems to 'just work' but I'm not sure about the electricity consumption.
- Heat mode (which I somehow don't think we'll be using!).
Which mode is going to help us manage the electricity bills the most??
Thanks all 🙏

Question Is this standard for North America?
Is it normal for a heat pump stand to just sit loose like this?
I live up north where we get substantial snowfall, and we also have kids running around outside. Right now the stand is just resting on concrete pavers with no anchors, and I'm really worried about it tipping or getting knocked over.
Should this be bolted down directly into the pavers, mounted to the wall with brackets, or is this free-standing setup acceptable? Any advice on the safest way to secure it would be greatly appreciated.
