Buying groceries is one thing. Wanting to cook them after work is another.
Someone in an earlier post mentioned ordering takeout even when they already had meals at home. That feels like its own category of spending regret: you paid for food twice.
For anyone who’s cut back, what actually helped? Easier meals, keeping frozen food around, deleting the apps, or something else?

This may sound like a very stupid question but it's motivated by a bunch of factors, those being;
1). How extremely behind I feel: I haven't exactly had the most exciting life up until now not can I be described as the most well adjusted or developed adult out there. My teenage years we're full of struggle and depression since I was both an underachiever and a social outcast with almost no real friends, my college years we're slightly better but they we're still nothing great. I had more friends but wasn't all that outgoing or social plus I was off campus so my parents still had me on a leech, sometimes I'd have the bros over to play videogames or go see a movie or sum but no partying or dating for me and I didn't thrive much academically cuz I chose a tough and long course that I have little passion for and am still trying to finish today.
2). Confusion: ppl seem to have different opinions depending on how you ask, younger ppl tell me 25 is old.My family will tell me I don't know shit about life since I'm only 25 but whenever they want to scold me it's "your 25 for God's sake you should know better". On social media it's even worse cuz it seems like everyone these days either has a mid life crisis after they turn 21or is in their 40s still living like it's their 20s.
3).Trauma: various harsh events in recent years like my family falling on hard times financially and us struggling to survive for the past few years along with my father dying shortly after being fully disowned by my deadbeat of a mother have stripped whatever feelings of youth, excitement and naivete I had towards life and turned me into a cynical person who very much expects the worse.
So yeah all in all I just wanted to vent and was just curious how y'all feel about it.

Am I the only one losing interest in old friends because they seem stuck in life?
No career progress, no studies, no real goals.
Do you try to close the gap or find new people who align with where you’re headed?

Hey !
I’m 23, currently living in Lucknow, and moving to Indore in the next 15–20 days for work. I’m starting a new chapter in life and thought I’d try my luck here.
I’ve been single for about a year after a breakup, and I’m ready to meet someone new. I’m looking for a stable, genuine relationship that could eventually lead to marriage if we connect well
What I’m looking for:
Ideally, someone already living in Indore, preferably aged 24–29. I’m particularly interested in older women, but compatibility and mutual understanding matter more than age.
I’m open to both a regular relationship and a live-in arrangement. I’ll be getting my own place in Indore, so if we develop trust and both feel comfortable, living together and sharing expenses fairly could be an option. There’s no pressure to rush things.
It would be great if you’re working or career-oriented, and we could support each other’s ambitions while enjoying life together
A little about me:
I’m a bit of a lazy guy sometimes 😂, but I’m excited about exploring a new city. I’d love to find someone to watch movies with, explore cafés and food spots, go on random outings, have late-night conversations, and enjoy the little things in life.
I’m not looking for something casual or temporary. I’d rather start with a conversation, see if our vibes matc
, and build something meaningful at our own pace.
If you’re in Indore and looking for a genuine connection with the possibility of a long-term future, feel free to say hi. Maybe this new chapter will bring me more than just a new job. ❤️

Im (31f) struggling to make genuine friends. I live with my partner, we love being together but he has a friend group we go see every month or so and I have nobody. I lived away from home for 10 years and moved back and met my partner. Ive not been able to make any friends in the last 3 years Ive been home. My best friend moved back to her home country and had a kid, and hasn’t responded to my messages in over a month. I send support from afar but when she hasn’t responded in weeks I leave it because I get shes probs busy with the newborn, but I do miss having a friend.
Things I tried: friendship apps
People would match but never initiate convo. I initiated convo a few times and got not much back, finally met a girl on there and we started hanging out.
Unfortunately she was too high maintenance. She would get upset if I couldn’t make plans for reasonable reasons and wanted to hang out a minimum of once a week and text constantly. I know that’s fine for some people but for me it was too much to maintain with every day life. I’d love some low key friends. Maybe meeting up a few times a month, text here and there and generally just support one another from afar. Is that far fetched?
So! Let me know how you made friends in adulthood? My hobbies are mostly home based so i don’t get an opportunity to meet people. I come across as socially confident but I get drained super quick by being around people, i don’t know if this is part of the problem as to why I can’t maintain friendships that require regular meeting up.
Im not a huge girlie girl so cocktails and nights out aren’t for me. But I like gaming, gigs, nature walks etc. I’m open to trying new hobbies but I wonder if people really find friends that way at all.
Any advice welcome :)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, how is it possible to live on minimum wage in 2026? I’m currently working full time for $43 an hour and have the opportunity to make over-time quite often, which I do take when I can…and there’s currently $2.76 in my bank account. I don’t feel that I live lavishly…I live in a Canadian small town, own an 800 square foot 100 year old house, and own two moderately “nice” vehicles. My husband recently immigrated to Canada so I’m the only source of income at the moment, but I still feel like we should be better off than we are. I do shop here and there and we eat out sometimes, but most evenings and days off are spent in my house reading a library book. I usually don’t even eat dinner, maybe pizza pops or ritz crackers from Costco. Just makes me think, how are people making $16 an hour getting by? If I’m struggling having this supposedly well paying job, I can’t even imagine what it’s like otherwise.

Will you be able to afford another car? How badly would that set you back financially? For those living in your vehicle, how would that mess up your living situation? How would you get to work now?

I’m an adult male with a professional job, 401k, wife, all the adult stuff, and I’ll be damned if farts are not still hilarious. It’s funny to see someone fart and get all socially squirmish/awkward or conversely get all proud and own it. Like how funny is it that we involuntarily have a loud noise come out an intimate part of our body that sometimes smells bad. Hilarious designing by the all mighty. Like ohhh just because I’m a serious “adult” I can’t still find it funny? Ok boomer
That’s all.

TLDR: How do I clean up after white mold and rodent droppings?
I moved back to my home town after a decade gone to find my parents depression house needs a lot of cleaning. They have lived there for 35+ years and I don't think they have ever cleaned before.
My kid goes over there often, and I want it to be safe. When I offered to help, my parents would argue about me when I wasn't around because my efforts were throwing off their balance.
I have been spending 2 hours a week for the past month cleaning up the living room, kitchen, and a spare bedroom.
My dad called me yesterday and decided that he wanted to use one of the rooms for his tools. They currently have 4 rooms in the house full of junk. It took me only an hour to bag up a car load and bring it to the dump, and I would say I need to make one more trip.
I didn't go through anything. All bagged and dumped. Everything was covered in rodent droppings and white mold. The floors of the room is concrete and the walls are cedar (not drywall).
My goal is to get that room serviceable in the next 2 weeks. 1 week to clear out the rest of the garbage and do a scrub down, 1 week to let the room breathe.
I just want to make sure it is safe before putting anything into the room.

Like the title says, I consider myself to be ungrateful for life in general, primarily because of how depressed I’ve been lately and how much I hate life. I hate waking up every day and it actually drives me insane that I can’t stop existing in a human form. I have to piss and shit every day until I die. My hand in life could be considered extremely lucky in terms of money I’m destined to receive in the future.
My great grandparents died when I was in my early teens, and combined they left me about 1 million dollars, of which I will receive the grand majority when I turn 30. I get around ~100k when I turn 25 next year (I’m 24). At 22 I got 75k and blew it in bad stock market option trades. Basically liquidated that whole thing. I felt terrible and even suicidal for desecrating the gift my great grandmother left me (even though there’s 200k more she left me, and 800k my great grandfather left me).
I just feel so undeserving of anything. I’ve never worked because I needed to or built anything that I can call my own. Especially recently I’ve been feeling this way and staying very isolated, losing all my friends. I find people in my university or in general don’t like hanging out with me, maybe I’m just a tough hang. (Tough to hang out with)
When I lost my first portion of the money stock trading I was devastated and I still feel that way. I just want to make the money back to feel like I paid myself back, but I’m also a lazy bum and don’t want to work. (Sorry capitalism, fuck you xD)
If I had my own money I’d live off it, but I have to wait a little under a year to get more. For now I’m just a student and my dad gives me money to pay for everything. I feel bad taking the money he gives me and it depresses me too. I’ve felt like a taker my whole life.
In order to get money from my dad however I have to keep studying in college which makes me feel like I’m living a fake life because deep down in my heart I know I don’t want to work.
So I’m living a friendless lonely life right now and I’m relatively poor with not that much money besides what I need for the basics (gained through no effort of my own except exhaling oxygen with my meat bag of a body) People would kill for my position but I hate my life.
The worst part is my rich family is all college educated and both my father and my grandfather are self made millionaires, which makes the feat of getting to their level feel impossible. Especially with my grandfather. My father has a net worth of around 15M while my grandfather has a net worth of ~500M. He owns a lot of major regional and international businesses.
I’m not even joking, I swear with God as my witness I’m telling the truth. I’ve never gotten a dollar from my grandfather (lol, lmao even), a little stingy gramps. I’m sure he’ll leave me a nice surprise when he goes. But my father is my grandfather’s only son, which means he’ll inherit the grand majority of all those assets in the near future.
My life truly feels surreal. Do you know how truly rare it is to be born into a line of succession like mine? But still I’m ungrateful and depressed when in theory I should have no reason to be. I could literally bed rot for the next decade and do literally nothing and there will be a day where I’ll wake up a multi millionaire. I could probably have ~50M by the time I’m 40, and that’s a conservative estimate.
It’s just all so undeserved. Yesterday I was in NYC, standing over a ledge overlooking the Hudson water in a spot that dropped several feet down and I was going to jump in to drown myself. these rollerskaters pulled up before I could do it and wouldn’t leave me alone until I climbed back over the ledge to their side.
They must have known something was up because I tried to convince them I was just smoking on that spot but all the things in my pocket were on the floor next to me including my phone and a paper that said “It was good knowing you earth, I’m glad we enjoyed our time together”. They couldn’t read that though cause it was folded.
Thanks rollerskaters for saving me I guess lmao, you just left the malice of my heart and mind in this world. All I’ve ever done is consume and take from others, now I can keep doing that …
Any advice on how to be grateful for my life instead of feeling desperate to end it? I just hate living in this cursed earth, and I feel that no money will ever fix that. I walk around everyday feeling like a foreign alien that deserves death. I feel like I don’t belong in this country or this world.

I (19f) am refusing to share my location with my parents, and they are PISSED. Due to personal circumstances, I had to move in with my parents for the semester, and I plan to move to a different state in January for my gap year.
For context, I went to a university halfway across the country so I wouldn't have to deal with them. Even then, I still maintained a high GPA, was in 5 extracurricular activities, and never drank/smoke. I finally had the perfect balance between school and my personal life. However, I can no longer attend this university because my parents refuse to pay due to my switch in majors.
Ever since I came back home, it has been absolutely miserable. They are constantly switching the narrative on me, saying that I should just attend an in-state university and am the stupid one for leaving. When in reality I know if I stay here, they will always find a way to control me.
Being at home is incredbily draining for me so during the day I like to go out to a cafe. I usually meet up with a mentor to discuss my plans for January. I also like to thrift and explore new places in the city. It is the only thing that really makes me happy but my parents give me shit for it and demand my location each time. I also started seeing this guy (whom i only see during the day as well) and my parents don't know.
They already monitor everything. They monitor what I eat at home, how i dress, and who I hang out with. I am just so tired of it. Me not giving them my location is the one thing that makes me feel like I have power. But of course, they want that to. I was supposed to meet with my mentor today but they didn't let me go. Should I just start going places without their permission or should I just give them my location? Any advice would be appericated.

My husband and I (23M&F) are struggling to afford life right now and are considering opening up our place to a roommate. Has anybody else done this before? And if so, did you find it awkward? I don’t really want to do it but we’re so broke we don’t even eat every day, so we would like to keep some of our hard-earned money.

I never need a pen, there hasn’t been one situation in the last three years, which required me to have a pen. However, today, I want to mail something off to someone else, and I need a pen. I have zero ink in my place. I’m grateful for Amazon.
If I had a car, I would be volunteering for meals on wheels, and I would be delivering pet food folks who are homebound.
Every day I get a digest from Idealist. A collection of things I might want to do. I am interested in volunteering for a hospice group, talking to people who might need support or engaging with a family member that might be dealing with someone that is not long for this world.
There’s a lot of cool stuff to do

Single and 13 weeks pregnant. Baby dad and I broke up before I found out I got pregnant and he doesn’t want anything to do with us. But that’s not the point. I’ve accepted it. I just want some love, care and affection. I just miss being cuddled, loved etc. I’m so touch deprived. Not in a sexual way but I just feel so lonely and want genuine connection without being fetishized. Being pregnant makes me feel like I can’t have all that. I can’t wait for when baby is here so I can just love and focus on em.

I'm turning 25 this November, and I'm curious about what women my age do after work.
I'm a full-stack developer, and my work ends around 7 PM. After dinner and freshening up, I have around 2 hours of free time. I live in a two-sharing PG, and honestly, I don't feel like studying or upskilling anymore.
I want something to look forward to after work, but I don't even know what I'm interested in. 😭 I also don't want my entire identity to revolve around my career.
So, what do your weekday evenings look like? Hobbies, going out, reading, meeting people, or just chilling? I'd love to hear about the ordinary stuff too!

I'll be turning 24 in a day. I've broadly had the same goals since I was 16. Lose weight and study hard. Haven't achieved them. I heard somewhere that there is a lot of pleasure in potential and I feel like that has been my whole life. I've just been marinating in the pleasure of how good life will be when I finally get my shit together. But I haven't been able to..I can't study consistently, some days I study a little, some days not at all and very rarely enough. I can never workout consistently or stop myself from binge eating etc. I've tried a lot of stuff. I've tried the hardest ways to be consistent I've tried the easiest ways nothing ever seems to work. I've improved a bit over the years but still not nearly enough to actually see a significant change. Any advice?
