I'd rather have Healthcare and government that isn't actively killing its citizens.

u/Faux_Grey 1d ago

I'm in south africa, we have nothing to look at AND a useless government.

438

u/fartandsmile 1d ago

Take back Elon

114

u/GordonsTheRobot 1d ago

We'd love some investment. He wanted to give free Internet to over 600 schools and the government pleaded for a bribe instead and when he said no they literally didn't allow starlink in the country. Our government is very very very very very very corrupt and we are in deep shit

33

u/TimelyBlacksmith92 1d ago

That’s a huge bummer. I’m sorry friend.

25

u/GordonsTheRobot 1d ago

Thank you. I'm optimistic about the future though. Election for local municipalities is on the 4th November and I'm really hoping things improve but the next national election is 2029 and I don't think we can afford to wait that long. Government is a mess. We need an emergency vote in 2027

17

u/TimelyBlacksmith92 1d ago

Well fingers crossed in lil old Oklahoma for you and your compatriots!

34

u/GordonsTheRobot 1d ago

Thank you! Yeah South Africans must be the most patient, accepting people in the world. Everyone knows the government is insane but they kind of carry on living their lives. Diesel is R34 per litre and around R13-R17 of that per litre price is tax. I know those numbers probably don't mean much to someone unfamiliar with our currency but at least you can see the ratio of tax to fuel is crazy. Also we have 144 race based laws and something called the employment equity act which essentially bans white people from running businesses unless they pay someone connected to the government a huge bribe (it's called black economic Empowerment but it's been proven that the government empowers the same people over and over again) I can't actually deal with how sick and twisted the ANC is. They murdered the whistle blower who notified that 2 billion rand was stolen from a hospital fund (the crooks in government bought multiple fancy cars) and something like 1700 government workers were implicated directly in corruption via something called the Zondo commission and most of them are still in government)

Sorry I turned into a whole bunch of paragraphs at the drop of a hat. I'm just so concerned for my country

u/SomeDay_15 1d ago

Thanks for taking the time to write this.

u/Globber50 1d ago

My friend just went to South Africa and said he literally had to have security detail everywhere he went. And he's a middle class American with no stature. He said security guards at the Airbnb, security guards at the store, etc. Is this true? If so, I'd say it's much more dangerous and fucked up in South Africa since I don't need security detail to go to the gas station here ...

3

u/GordonsTheRobot 21h ago

Some places are safer than others. Some places uber can't even drive because we have a taxi mafia (it's a long story) that literally sets trains and buses on fire because they want to be the only vehicles allowed to drive. Minibus taxis. They sometimes fight with other rival minibus taxi operators and the taxi mafia works like a royalty system so the children of the higher ranking officials inherit their fleet. Honestly we need several documentaries made about our country. Again some places are safer than others but recently some of the traditionally safer places have gotten more dangerous. Lots of people have had necklaces snatched in a recent new kind of crime wave

You can drop that hat again. It's an interesting read to hear about Africa, I learned a few about it from a friend whom I met whenever I went to university. He pretty much told us, how terrible the government is and how there's so much corruption. I'm seriously big into collecting minerals, so we initially sparked up a conversation about how even the precious minerals such as Tanzanite and diamonds, aren't even owned by the country and how GB has ownership of their land. I was mentioning how expensive and high priced, Tanzanite is over diamond, that I bet the people of Tanzania is flourishing. That's when he broke the news to me. Yeah the government is 'bad' in the US, however it's worse in Africa. I feel for y'all!

why do people even care about the elections from the highest courts to the lowest municipalities our constitution is completely ignored we have not exercised our rights because of decades of good economic times. Sheep tell us to just go along with what rights we are deprived of and not to question the authorities. The fore fathers shed blood to make sure are rights were upheld and we just gave them back to our government. Our Judicial system is a joke. We are accused trialed and sentenced all by the District attorneys that are in partnerships with the arresting officers. The punnishments are made to scare a person into pleading guilty because god forbid the jury and corruption from our peer are decided by media or apperance and if a punishment could be sentenced to 30 plus years for a bad jury pick instead non guilty people will plead guilty and take what the accuser the judge and the sentencer better known as the DA says like a 5 or 6 years sentence. This is all only for the middle and lower class people because if you have money the law doesnt apply to you just like the law doesnt apply to the largest gang in the world, i am speaking of the police officers that are worse on day to day basis then the criminals they arrest. Our government has the abbility to prevent things like drug use and say DWI but they dont because they make more money by arresting people or bringing in the narcotics across the boarder. DWI's for example there is cheap technology that could go into every single vehicle like seatbelts do that would prevent the car to be operated from someone intoxicated and would save tens of thousands of peoples deaths... do they nope make more money with probation and bullshit kangaroo courts. I have never and no matter what call the big gang in the clown suits for help EVER i would rather die instead of calling for help. I had a friend tell me once that because i was arguing with my girlfriend to stop hang up and call the police because who ever calls first the other will go to jail how fucked up is that. It is true though. FML

2

u/Euphoric-Candle7079 1d ago

I can verify from my own experience with the so called “drug court” that it was never about helping stop addiction and was purely a cash grab by the court with almost no way out of it once you’ve been ensnared. Something else that’s BS is a record of arrest does not mean the person was also convicted of the charge and therefore deemed guilty. It’s just a record of their arrest for something and nothing more. Yet people look that shit up online all the time and use it against the person as if they were guilty and convicted. The reports never say the outcome of the court proceeding s which is the most important part! Just that they were arrested and charged with some crime. We literally let them(the govt. ) do us dirty all the time and I wanna know when we’re gonna finally do something about it? Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words… remember?!

Don't be bothered by the Americans that believe they live in the worst country in the world. I guess since they have never been anywhere else they just think their spoiled, privileged life is hard.

34

u/turnsout_im_a_potato 1d ago

As an american, you are very right. A little perspective couldnt hurt, ya know? Like, sure, things might be rough over here... for us... based on what were used to, or whatever... but i dont gotta worry about having my hands cut off if i steal an apple or somethin, ya know?

12

u/ElJefe-TX 1d ago

They don’t cut off hands for stealing in South Africa. Still, good point. ✌️

9

u/turnsout_im_a_potato 1d ago

Oh, yeah... uhh, i blame my ignorance of other places and cultures, i reached for an extreme example but truely i have no clue how it is. Meant no offence or anything

7

u/Charon711 1d ago

I wouldn't even say it's rough in comparison to other places.

9

u/notmycase 1d ago

That's his point though. YOU wouldn't say it's rough, but someone with a more limited perspective might, like an American that's never been outside their own region let alone the country.

Unfortunately Americans don't understand how shitty a lot of things have gotten in America compared to other nations with democracy. The cost of even basic pharmacolgical things in the US are hundreds of times more expensive than for instance Germany. I had to pay over $400 for an IV bag of saline in an American ER, it was about 4 Euros when I got one for dehydration in a hospital in Munich. I had a national security Counterterrorism consultant job in Germany last year after nearly 20 years of working at homeland security in a similar role. The German government paid me way better, had better benefits, and they believe in much better work-life balance.

I live here and hate just about anyone under the age of 35. All a bunch of pusses

2

u/Euphoric-Candle7079 1d ago

I think it boils down to lack of proper parenting. We’re animals and you hafta be animalistic with teaching your young or they’ll think they can just do whatever and act however they want which is bad for everyone. Alternatively, coddling and being over protective and scared of every little thing and being afraid to do anything risky or thrilling results in a bunch of weak fraidycat passive aggressive cop calling wimps that would never step up to defend literally anything and would be kissing the enemy’s ass if we ever got invaded. There’s a difference between discipline and child abuse and the latter is always wrong but everyone deserves a good ass whipping at some point in their life to help them figure out who they are or to be taken down a notch or two, or to realize they have more courage than they thought.

2

u/KristineMcKinley 1d ago

I'm an American and it regularly disgusts me to read the things my fellow Americans complain about. It been years but before I got cancer, I did a lot of traveling. We have it so damn good - even if you dont agree with the current administration, it is NOTHING compared to what some other countries go through.

And frankly there is nothing really stopping anyone here from leaving if they want it bad enough. If they decided to get into a canoe and sail for a better life on distant shores, they could depart at 12 noon off a public beach. Certain govenors might even pack them a bag lunch.

There are people who are so desperate to get away from their country that they do this sort of thing all over the world. I have yet to see anyone so desperate in the USA that they rig up a tube to a motor and take off. No, they mostly just whine.

2

u/Miserable_Internet89 1d ago

America is a diverse place. People in places like Kensington, Philadelphia, PA, parts of Chicago, LA, and many other major cities, they're no different than a war zone. But yes, there are some very privileged areas of the U.S., with much of it quite a bit better than many places around the world. That doesn't change the fact that we see what our government is doing. The U.S. military industrial complex is the most destructive force in the planet, and the security state around the nation is closing it's grip.

3

u/PoopyDaLoo 1d ago

Oh, we are no where near the worst country, that is true, but we've just fallen so far so quick, and our leadership is supposed to be held to a higher standard as our economy and policies effect the whole world. But yeah, much of Africa and South America and even Europe are still in much worse situations. Our prez WISHES he could be some of these other dictators.

Damn man I’m sorry, though Africa is home to the most diverse group of exotic animals on the planet apparently, I was reading something about that a few days ago

29

u/Faux_Grey 1d ago

Yes! We absolutely do! (As long as you have the time and money to go to these places.)

Yellowstone national park has some amazing sights & wildlife, how often do you go there? (Assuming you're in the USA)

22

u/sinistergzus 1d ago

This is a very fair comparison honestly. I’ve been to Yellowstone once, 20 years ago. I think people can be too used to seeing videos of places like Australia, where there seems to be kangaroos n such everywhere even in town. In the USA, certain areas (like mine) have bear and mountain lion problems. Makes sense that no, Africa is not completely crawling with lions n shit near everyone’s neighborhoods.

u/Faux_Grey 23h ago

This is exactly the comparison I wanted to make.

Do you have healthcare?

1

u/ElJefe-TX 1d ago

Come on man… you have Mpumalanga, Kruger, Cape Town, PE, and much much more… then you neighbor the Kalahari, Vic Falls, Eswatini, and some incredible off-grid beach resorts in Mozambique. There is more of God’s beauty within a short distance of you than most in the world will ever see throughout their lives.

I’ve traveled all over the world and will tell you that Southern Africa is unlike any other region. The landscape and the people are among the world’s most beautiful. We ALL tend to under appreciate what is familiar and within reach.

In terms of useless governments, I think your experience would give many Americans and Europeans a healthy perspective. Most have no idea what the rest of the world is like. 🤙

3

u/Faux_Grey 1d ago

I think it's different when you live vs holiday.

The problem isn’t space exploration, nasa receives a fraction of the budget on top of the privatized companies working on it. The problem is the military budget and black books operations.

10

u/TorTheMentor 1d ago

I don't think they were saying that we don't have healthcare or a functioning government becauss if NASA, I think instead they meant "as impressive as this is, I'd rather never get the opportunity to see this kind of thing in exchange for having healthcare and a functioning government." Every dollar into NASA has roughly added $3 to over $7 in direct economic output for the U.S.A.

I am with you, healthcare is a main issue that needs addressed badly. Yet, so too is NASA. The U.S should invest more into NASA than it does into its ridiculously over budgeted military.

29

u/EmilyAndCat 1d ago

Does NASA still launch rockets? I thought it was all being privatized. Does privatization still make the $3 to $7 direct output or is that being pocketed by billionaires now?

Genuinely curious.

1

u/UserAdamD 1d ago

1

u/Green-Palpitation901 1d ago

Hey nasa is great, I’d still rather have healthcare for my wife and I that doesn’t cost 30k/year just in premiums (have to spend another 14k for it to actually fully cover everything) over living close to a launch site

1

u/Sillibilli19 1d ago

But think how well this war would be going on a lesser budget! Even thought we crushed them on day one and by day foe they were buying the President gifts, wtf?

And we sit ideally by while this is going on

1

u/Jumpy_Tomatillo7579 20h ago

41 billion a year isn’t enough

1

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 15h ago

I definitely agree. As a species our survival is completely dependent on living in space or another planet. There’s a 100% chance of cataclysmic event ending most life on earth. Might be a year, might be 100 million years. It will definitely happen. The only way we ensure our survival is to get to space.

With that said I don’t think people comprehend what Fiat currency really is. That’s the form of currency we use. I feel like the literal definition should be enough to explain why we spend so much on military. Fiat currency means currency by force. It it’s worthless nothing backed by nothing other than the threat of force. The second we stop spending the country will crash because no one will use dollars on more.

I don’t agree with Fiat based currencies. It’s great for fast growth and weathering tough storms. It’s also very dumb. Until we crash the currency we are stuck spending more on the survival of our monetary system than we are the survival of our citizens. Only 2 things can change that. Change the currency, or cease to exist altogether. Honestly I’d be cool with 5 years of extremely hard times to help guarantee the survival of the human race.

1

u/Programmed2love 3h ago

Is the "direct economic output" in the room with us right now? Amazing what people make up to defend the spending of industries they think are cool. Now do launch emissions! Only 3 bad air molecules for each 7 good ones?

2

u/Plane_Restaurant_486 1d ago

We have universal healthcare and it's collapsed. You go and it's a 6-8 hr wait and if admitted you sit in a hallway for 2-5 days till a room frees up. Trust me it doesn't work. But your system would work if insurance stopped owning pharmacies companies. They own the vertical to a degree and republicans and Democrats will do nothing to change it. Obama was funded by pharma along with Clinton Bush 1 and 2. When Dems are in power and have house and Senate they do nothing.

1

u/OkayContributor 1d ago

6-8 hr wait? What do you think happens in the US? We go to the ER and it’s the exact same thing, except we get billed tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, and that’s if you have insurance. If you don’t, then may god have mercy on your soul

1

u/Mimosa_magic 1d ago

That's a bit of a false choice. We simply need progressive taxation, as we did at the advent of the space program. And of course, not pouring an insane amount of tax dollars into foreign wars or the various grifts of the Epstein class would also help. And, while we're at that, Medicare for all and the removal of parasitic insurance companies.

aw you poor thing. maybe go live in Africa for a while and take some of the burden off of us in the terrible US.

1

u/aerdvarkk 1d ago

What does this have to do with space launches?

I mean, I'd rather most people in society not be uneducated and stupid, but here we are.

1

u/SOMEONENEW1999 1d ago

You can have both when the wealthy pay their fair share…

1

u/ACME_TrapsandTNT 1d ago

No one is stopping individual states from putting in “free” healthcare. That would be like Europe - every country has different levels of care.

1

u/NathanEddy23 1d ago

NASA‘s budget is 0.35% of the federal budget. You honestly think that’s what’s holding up universal healthcare? Our government already spends more than 1.6 trillion a year on healthcare for its citizens—not private spending—government spending. That’s nearly 70 times as much as the budget of NASA.

u/SignificanceSame1875 1d ago

Hey, we aren't Canada!

1

u/Potential_Might_6500 1d ago

Two important things can happen at the same time. This is not the core issue holding us back lol.

1

u/graphicnerdity86 1d ago

Where can you find that

1

u/FuckkkOfffffMaaate 1d ago

Don’t forget about the food system lol

1

u/wasteknowledge123 1d ago

We are pretty chill here, but please try to keep things reasonably civil on this sub. No slurs, name calling or harassment and trolling. Please follow: Reddiquette at all times. Additionally, Reddit's Rules. Yes, the internet makes us angry too sometimes, especially this particular comment.

You have healthcare, or no excuse not to have it. The ACA plans accept everyone, and provide subsidies if your income is low. While US healthcare paperwork is a PITA, the actual care is excellent, with (usually) comparativly short wait periods. A lot of things could be better, but we certainly "have healthcare".

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/best-healthcare-in-the-world

No, our government isn't "actively" killing its citizens. What BS. What we DO have, is some citizens "actively" interfering with law enforcement carrying our actual (checks notes) LAWS, sometimes violently so, and spurred on my media histrionics on activity that under the Obama administration was viewed as routine. Because of blatant hypocrisy.

1

u/Flick_W_McWalliam 1d ago

You have both.

1

u/Mechanical_Soup 1d ago

also data centers in the backyard, nah

1

u/1Daddyman1955 1d ago

Oh you mean like Canada 🇨🇦 🤔hey did you know that Canada's NHS system suicided more citizens than guns did in America last year 🤔 Well now you do

1

u/Glum-Masterpiece-997 1d ago

You haven’t heard of MAID in Canada have you ? lol

1

u/DeGreatHam 1d ago

Bruh what government is that?? Better be like Norway 😂

1

u/Appropriate_Yak_6155 1d ago

U have that don't u?

1

u/Alive-Working669 1d ago

I agree. Obama killing American citizens overseas with drones was terrible. Worse yet, Obamacare made health insurance unaffordable for those of us who could once afford it. Instead of paying over $14,000 annually in premiums, plus another $6,000 in deductibles, I went without healthcare insurance for over 5 years, choosing to fund my own healthcare out-of-pocket. I spent about $200 a year. Far better than spending over $20,000 annually before insurance paid me a dime.

1

u/Jolly_Line 1d ago

Aaaand a stellar space program! Give me all 3, there is ample budget in defense that can be redirected

1

u/Shiva- 1d ago

You could live in France and have the best of both worlds? Kennedy isn't the only spaceport you know.

1

u/Mottled_Paws 1d ago

I have healthcare

1

u/Lumpy_Mango_2587 1d ago

No one is actively killing us. Disagreeing with government is welcomed but that’s just an unnecessary hyperbolization that is insulting to people who are actually being actively killed by their government.

1

u/EarthquakeDenier 1d ago

So would we the people.

1

u/Informal_March_2638 1d ago

See the following medical developments resulting from or derived from NASA research:

Programmable pacemakers
Left ventricular assist device
Laser angioplasty
MRI and CT scan processing
Infrared thermometers
Portable ultrasound devices
Breast Biopsy digital imaging to better detect cancer
LASIK
Surgical robots
Modern prosthetics

Etc

1

u/mkeurr 1d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣 keep dreaming

1

u/ALTH0X 1d ago

So would a lot of us in the states

1

u/ChuckNorrisFacePunch 1d ago

I'd rather have free speech and guns. The guns are so we get to keep the free speech.

1

u/Onerywolf 1d ago

The democrats gave you healthcare. And the other comment, just wait until the Socialists (marxists) get in charge.

1

u/Midgard_Tribeleader 1d ago

All governments are useless and healthcare is only for people who can’t take care of themselves properly

1

u/Substantial_System66 1d ago

Buddy. Do better.

1

u/27K-Interactive 1d ago

We can have both, it's not an either or type thing. As a fraction, space is cheep. Keep your greedy lil fingers away from science dollars. lol

1

u/fukonsavage 1d ago

Every government is the enemy of its people. Most kill their own citizens regularly.

1

u/YakCommercial9412 1d ago

How long is the wait times in your perfect utopia friend?

1

u/Pinapple-everything 1d ago

Neither of those things are true lol

1

u/SomeGuy_1_2 1d ago

Lmao, R tard

1

u/Educational_Rock5929 1d ago

Why do you think we have no healthcare? We pay for insurance and we don't have 6 month waits to see specialists or for surgery. I had a total knee replacement and paid nothing.out of pocket. If you have no money you have free healthcare. Our government is also not actively killing its citizens. WTF

1

u/Megzasaurusrex 1d ago

The sad thing is we could easily have both. 😭

1

u/CooperHChurch427 1d ago

I agree, but a large amount of scientific research being used for medical therapies is being studied in space. Not to mention nearly all modern telecom systems are in orbit now

1

u/DoctorandusMonk 1d ago

This ☝🏼

1

u/nsfw_vs_sfw 1d ago

Sometimes you forget you're on Reddit. And then sometimes you get these 'nice' little reminders

1

u/Standard-Bumblebee64 1d ago

Agreed. But this is privately owned SpaceX.

1

u/Itchy_Reason_8354 1d ago

Come to USA then!!

Some of the best health care on the planet!

They are trying to kill us though.

1

u/Potential_Let_2307 1d ago

Please leave! The great Cuban healthcare system is calling!

1

u/USAtoday8 23h ago

Yall demon-rats crack me up such sad people to push liberal media propaganda but hey I love the anger and tds it makes my days so much better!😍

1

u/KamikazePenis 23h ago

Whatever you do, don't move to Canada!

They have neither health care (without waiting months for urgent procedures) nor a government that isn't actively working to kill its citizens (MAID).

1

u/Jumpy_Tomatillo7579 20h ago

Just can’t talk about anything they oppose So that’s a bit of a snag

1

u/Bulky-Jackfruit2623 20h ago

Employment often equals healthcare. Better leave before the "active killing" knocks on your door. What's stopping ya?

1

u/TaiChey 20h ago

No fr.. let's switch. Give me the health care, yall take the weird crap in the sky smh.

1

u/Gold_Studio_9281 19h ago

That’s counter intuitive. Giving corrupt selfish and unaccountable government lackeys control of your is just stupid

1

u/jester1x 18h ago

The rest of us don't want to pay for you.

1

u/No-University-5413 10h ago

Good luck, best governments can do is corruption, murder, and theft.

1

u/IAmALWAYSCorrect1026 10h ago

I’m an American and….checks notes….i seem to be just fine. You ok u/? Where did the bad man hurt you?

1

u/idkhowbtfmbttf 4h ago
