Every dollar into NASA has roughly added $3 to over $7 in direct economic output for the U.S.A.

I am with you, healthcare is a main issue that needs addressed badly. Yet, so too is NASA. The U.S should invest more into NASA than it does into its ridiculously over budgeted military.

u/EmilyAndCat 1d ago

They massively reduced NASA funding too though đŸ˜©

u/thepangalactic 1d ago

As someone who was laid off from NASA after the DOGE bullshit, believe me when I say I feel this. I hate what they've done to my beloved agency.

1

u/Unusual-Formal-6802 1d ago

Were you able to reapply to all these new openings? KSC just hired 2000 people.

1

u/thepangalactic 1d ago

I just submitted for new roles for a posting that closed today. Fingers crossed. As much as I hate what he's done to the agency, I still want to go back and keep making science happen.

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 15h ago

Good for you. Get us to mars !!!

1

u/FickleGuard5316 6h ago

You are mistaking NASA with Space X. Elon has almost made NASA obsolete

0

u/Any_Annual8096 19h ago

Handled correctly absolutely not. But isn’t that like saying “my boss was stealing so I got punished so fu k the cop who found out”

1

u/thepangalactic 18h ago

Are you kidding? DOGE was not cleaning up any wrongdoing. It was just a grift on grift.

16

u/Big-Job-2845 1d ago

They have no vision save lining their pockets

u/adctrucker59 1d ago

VOTE! And take all your neighbors and friends to the polls we have to make change this election. Early voting starts soon in some states. Check your registration and VOTE!

2

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 15h ago

Our we voting to get rid of Fiat currency? If not voting won’t solve any problems. We owe 41 trillion dollars, but only 23 trillion exist. I don’t understand why everyone is Trump bad. Trump didn’t start this path towards complete worthless currency. If you want to blame anyone 100% it starts with JP Morgan. Woodrow Wilson bares quite a bit of responsibility as well. This problem started prior to 1913 but 1913 was main catalyst and most people will say I’m an idiot. Apparently no one embers the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules. Is there anyone who thinks Trump has all the gold and is the most successful person in the world right now? Not even his supporters would argue that.

1

u/dr-chop 1d ago

What do you think the Democrats are gonna do if they get into power? I would genuinely like to know.

1

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 15h ago

Not get us to mars either.

1

u/Dependent-Cow428 1d ago

I guess we'll see.

1

u/VanbyRiveronbucket 1d ago

First thing they need to do is repeal Citizens United. Kneecap the billionaires. Second thing, is arrest Clarence Thomas for corruption. Kneecap the courts enabling them. Third thing they do is turn Cuba’s electricity back on.

1

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 15h ago

As long as we continue to use funny money fiat currency, these problems aren’t going away. Billionaires aren’t the cause. They aren’t helping at all. They just benefit from the current situation. Didn’t cause it though.

-2

u/Impossible_Arm_8464 1d ago

They’ll try to do what they ALWAYS do, fix the freaking economy, make sure people have jobs, affordable housing and return sanity to government. And Republicans will continue to do what they always do, lie, cheat, steal, enrich themselves and manipulate the gullible into returning to power in 2 years. This country is doomed because of questions like yours🙄

0

u/Educational_Rock5929 1d ago

The dems already told you what they are going to do : open the borders back up, flood our country with the 3rd world, pay for their Healthcare and living expenses, register them all to vote, make Puerto Rico and Washington DC states so they control Senate forever, expand the Supreme Court to 16 judges who will always vote for what they want. They will codify abortion to be available in all states, no restrictions, up to the moment of birth. They will legalize euthanasia for all ages. They probably won't get around to fixing healthcare for the schmuck taxpayers because they don't give a shit. Why do you think they love euthanasia so much? Medicare for all will mean no doctors will take it. It is all geared to make sure they remain in power forever. The end of the Constitution, authoritarian government for all. Yeah you better vote blue if you want to see the end of this country.

-2

u/Dependent-Cow428 1d ago

They gave the money to El0n.

1

u/BigPanda71 1d ago

He can actually put people into space, unlike NASA.

2

u/Unusual-Formal-6802 1d ago

Let me correct that for you - NASA funded the development of the rockets his company builds to send astronauts to space for a fee.

1

u/CooperHChurch427 1d ago

NASA is why it happened. They got royally fucked when they canceled Vulcan simply because of a few senators who wanted to ride out the contracts from the shuttle program. The SLS is essentially a modified shuttle without the shuttle.

However NASA takes their time to ensure they launch.

1

u/BigPanda71 1d ago

I forgot about Artemis being an SLS rocket, and stand corrected. NASA can put people into space.

2

u/BxRad_ 1d ago

How does NASA result in 3-7x economic output?

5

u/1K-Year-Egg 1d ago

I wholeheartedly agree.

Honestly, I bet a lot of the “defense” contractors wouldn’t even mind! I mean, rockets are rockets, right?

Why should they care whether those rockets are intended for murdering brown foreigners or space exploration?

14

u/stoicsilence 1d ago

In my mind, dumping gobs of money into NASA is the only way peacefully satisfy Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin while cutting the military budget.

1

u/themightycrouton 1d ago

You realize only 7-10 percent of the world is white right? Or are you saying Russians aren’t white?

1

u/bobohobo1275 1d ago

If only those of us in the military felt that ridiculous budget

1

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

The U.S military is ranked 5th in the world for the highest military salaries. That is pretty good, considering there are 178 militaries in the world. You could have it worse, serve in Russia's military and just get a promise of maybe payment or a bullet to the head on payday instead. :D

1

u/bobohobo1275 1d ago

Generally speaking, I wouldn’t compare my salary with others around the world. It makes more sense to compare my salary with those with similar living conditions and lifestyles. Your comment is like saying “Atleast you weren’t born with no arms and legs”.

Everyone has a different situation.

I was just saying, in America, for a 10 year “employee” with an undergrad degree who’s worked long hours and weeks in less than friendly situations, my take home pay doesn’t always feel commensurate to the work put-in. That said, I’m very grateful. I have a good life.

Speaking out just to invalidate my claim is weird.

0

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

I 100% agree with you, yet, military men/women overwhelming vote Republican. And against your best interests. Giving meager "1776" payments while the very same absurd government also guts veterans affairs.

No knowledgeable American service member or veteran should EVER support a Republican, let alone whatever the fucking Republican clown show has become now....

1

u/PhysicalConsistency 1d ago

This launch was a CRS mission to the ISS, but most of them are private Starlink launches.

1

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

Okay? I knew this already, thanks for the information, I guess...

1

u/Bulldogfront666 1d ago

Space X isn’t nasa though.

1

u/BuckyShots 1d ago

Does NASA still launch rockets? I thought it was all being privatized. Does privatization still make the $3 to $7 direct output or is that being pocketed by billionaires now?

Genuinely curious.

1

u/UserAdamD 1d ago

Investing more money into NASA is waste. Organization is as bad as the Military

1

u/Green-Palpitation901 1d ago

How about we keep NASA, NASA. Tell privatization no thank you. SpaceX

1

u/cyanescens_burn 1d ago

This isn’t nasa, it’s money funneled to a private company for space stuff instead of a government agency.

1

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

Who said it was NASA? Do you have reading comprehension issues?

1

u/68plus1equals 1d ago

Hey nasa is great, I’d still rather have healthcare for my wife and I that doesn’t cost 30k/year just in premiums (have to spend another 14k for it to actually fully cover everything) over living close to a launch site

1

u/Sillibilli19 1d ago

But think how well this war would be going on a lesser budget! Even thought we crushed them on day one and by day foe they were buying the President gifts, wtf?

And we sit ideally by while this is going on

1

u/Jumpy_Tomatillo7579 20h ago

41 billion a year isn’t enough

1

u/Iamlizardhearnepurr 15h ago

I definitely agree. As a species our survival is completely dependent on living in space or another planet. There’s a 100% chance of cataclysmic event ending most life on earth. Might be a year, might be 100 million years. It will definitely happen. The only way we ensure our survival is to get to space.

With that said I don’t think people comprehend what Fiat currency really is. That’s the form of currency we use. I feel like the literal definition should be enough to explain why we spend so much on military. Fiat currency means currency by force. It it’s worthless nothing backed by nothing other than the threat of force. The second we stop spending the country will crash because no one will use dollars on more.

I don’t agree with Fiat based currencies. It’s great for fast growth and weathering tough storms. It’s also very dumb. Until we crash the currency we are stuck spending more on the survival of our monetary system than we are the survival of our citizens. Only 2 things can change that. Change the currency, or cease to exist altogether. Honestly I’d be cool with 5 years of extremely hard times to help guarantee the survival of the human race.

1

u/Programmed2love 3h ago

Is the "direct economic output" in the room with us right now? Amazing what people make up to defend the spending of industries they think are cool. Now do launch emissions! Only 3 bad air molecules for each 7 good ones?

0

u/Same_Bit2000 1d ago

Little PP compensation

0

u/Kewpie-8647 1d ago

Elon will make sure to hoover up the extra cash, it’s his rockets.

0

u/RevolutionaryNet8500 1d ago

Me agreeing with you while rubbing my hands and licking my lips and preparing my army to invade that small country that supplies America with microchips and cookies 😂

1

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

The country that the U.S has outspent on their military for the last 100 years, and by 8 fold now? That country? Ridiculous.

1

u/RevolutionaryNet8500 1d ago

Oh please...we all know what happens when a country neglects its military. All these clueless people crying about military spending will be the first to cry the loudest once costs gro up on inports once America cuts spending on military and those smaller countries that rally on our military start to get swallowed up by larger nations with bigger militaries. It's not presumption but Facts.

0

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

It is only right-wing Americans who think anyone in the world "needs" their military. Keep parroting the typical U.S military industrial complexes absurd talking points. The rest of the world is moving on from the U.S with good reason.

0

u/RevolutionaryNet8500 1d ago

Sure, sure buddy. Show us all how narrow minded you are by putting a label on people who respectfully disagree with you. Or maybe your one of those dictators who don't want American presence in the country you wanna invade? If not you might just be one of those types who blame America when as soon as it pulls its forces out of that country, the country immediately becomes a war zone. Dmn if you do and dmn if you don't or as I've come to see and understand it, the lesser of two evils.

0

u/ZealousidealWeek5790 1d ago

I don’t think they understand that the issue with healthcare isn’t the government, directly.. it’s due to healthcare being privatized, and not regulated. If they capped what our doctors could charge us/insurance, insurance would be sooooo much cheaper.

2

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago edited 1d ago

Or, simply go with a State ran insurance company that allows its board of directors to be doctors themselves. While getting rid of most private insurance altogether. You know, like a Universal Health care system... While giving either States or the U.S Fed centralized authority over prescription drugs. This would allow for a massive collective bargaining power that would force pharmaceuticals companies to lower prices on drugs.

2

u/ZealousidealWeek5790 1d ago

It would cost us an absurd amount of money as tax payers to transition to a universal healthcare system. It’s nice to say on paper, but noone’s going to “take” the hospitals and practices from these mega medical companies. They would have to be bought out in order to let it be state ran. Who is paying for these properties? The tax payers.. for their “UHCS”

5

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago edited 1d ago

"It would cost us an absurd amount of money as tax payers to transition to a universal healthcare system. "

This is incorrect, and a huge misconception made by Americans. Americans already pay over twice as much as the next nation per person for Healthcare, as is. Where many studies show that going to a Universal Healthcare system would save U.S taxpayers between 500 billion to over 1 trillion dollars annually. As, you Americans spend so much money on the middle man - the insurer, who takes up so much cost in administrative fees. Remove the "middle man" and costs go down drastically, as would health outcomes across the U.S increase.

"Who is paying for these properties? The tax payers.."

Again, no, just like Canada does. 96% of Canadian hospitals are owned and operated independently by non-profit foundations, religious orders, or community boards rather than directly by the government. Where a board of actual doctors dictates, from province to province, on how the provincial ran medical insurance is ran, what equipment is needed, and, of course, a centralized governance on prescription drugs, too. This is why insulin in Canada is on average 12 dollars a dose, compared to 90 dollars in the U.S.

Fun fact, the U.S isn't even in the top 10 best country's in the world for healthcare and health outcomes - far from it. Whereas, regardless of the propaganda you may here, Canada is in the top 10 best countries in the world for healthcare and outcomes.

1

u/TemporaryCapital3871 1d ago

Like 30th I think

1

u/ZealousidealWeek5790 18h ago

You’re missing the critical part of “most healthcare facilities are PRIVATELY OWNED”.. that is the current status. Please map out how THAT particular part is to be taken care of.

1

u/GreatAffect9454 16h ago

As I already said, the U.S has more charitable foundations than most of the world combined and a ridiculous amount of religious institutions that are wealthy enough to take over and buy those properties outright.

1

u/ZealousidealWeek5790 16h ago

Religion and state are separate, so church can’t purchase a for profit organization for the government to run (“shouldn’t” be able to, although that’s a very muddy relationship)

You could put all those charity’s together and still be very short of the 6 trillion dollars the healthcare industry is “worth” in the US

1

u/GreatAffect9454 15h ago

6 trillion isn't the value of your healthcare, it is what you spend. Spending for a Universal Healthcare system would be vastly cheaper. As I already discussed, no more middle man. No more crazy bureaucracy to move through and Medicare, Medicaid and the VA (and whatever other federal healthcare institutions the U.S has) would no longer exist under such a system. Further reducing the bureaucracy and costs by 100's of billions.

Again, as I said above, 96% of Canada's hospitals are privately owned by non-profit organizations, There is no reason why the U.S couldn't do the same.

1

u/ZealousidealWeek5790 16h ago

And don’t mistake what I’m saying, I’m 10000% for healthcare reform in the US. I’m just stating it won’t be as easy as most people seem to think.

1

u/Dependent-Cow428 1d ago

Reagan did that.

1

u/RetiredPath 1d ago

They started capping what doctors could charge decades ago. Look up “capitated payments“. It’s the insurance companies that scrape 30% off the top.

1

u/ZealousidealWeek5790 18h ago edited 16h ago

Hell my insurance company doesn’t scrape shit off the top cause they put all the costs on ME! Lmao 😅

But, if that were the case, services and copay wouldn’t have increased exponentially over the last few decades.

0

u/No_Brain_5513 1d ago

Is it still "going to NASA" if Elon is pocketing it all?

2

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

This is called a Strawman argument. No where did I mention anything about Elon. Nor did I mention anything about the rocket that was launched in the photo. Thirdly, Elon leases from NASA, so technically Elon cannot pocket it "all".

0

u/Minimum_Natural_8647 1d ago

Healthcare and programs like SNAP and USAID also increase(d) direct economic output for the US. Unfortunately there are tens of millions of people who vote for politicians whose only goal is to diminish the US’s economic strength just to win fake culture wars.

0

u/bigeats1 1d ago

You mean the military that protects all of the countries that don’t spend their money on military and rely on us to protect them?

I hear so many people bitch about the US military right up until the moment that they need their asses covered. It’s completely unimpressive.

1

u/GreatAffect9454 1d ago

Only moronic right-wing Americans think other countries need them. I am Canadian, and most Canadians would agree, Russia and China aren't our greatest threats right now - The USA is under the orange turd.

Come North and try to annex us. You will find that likely yourself won't be alive to see the end of that outcome.

1

u/bigeats1 1d ago

Well, you’re willfully unarmed, so
wouldn’t be hard. The thing is, why would we want you? I’ve never understood that part at all. I mean there’s the vast reserves of maple syrup, which is delicious, but other than that, your defense is that it’s cold in some places. We get that defensive benefit for free by your land existing. The rest of the package is some displaced cheese curd eating surrender monkey descendants into communism. I’ll pass. Globally speaking, you’re like the fat chick that doesn’t bathe nearly often enough talking about how bad everyone wants you.

1

u/SupaNumba1FunTime 1d ago

This has to be some of the most insane larp I have seen from a Canadian
