We'd love some investment. He wanted to give free Internet to over 600 schools and the government pleaded for a bribe instead and when he said no they literally didn't allow starlink in the country. Our government is very very very very very very corrupt and we are in deep shit
Thank you. I'm optimistic about the future though. Election for local municipalities is on the 4th November and I'm really hoping things improve but the next national election is 2029 and I don't think we can afford to wait that long. Government is a mess. We need an emergency vote in 2027
Thank you! Yeah South Africans must be the most patient, accepting people in the world. Everyone knows the government is insane but they kind of carry on living their lives. Diesel is R34 per litre and around R13-R17 of that per litre price is tax. I know those numbers probably don't mean much to someone unfamiliar with our currency but at least you can see the ratio of tax to fuel is crazy. Also we have 144 race based laws and something called the employment equity act which essentially bans white people from running businesses unless they pay someone connected to the government a huge bribe (it's called black economic Empowerment but it's been proven that the government empowers the same people over and over again) I can't actually deal with how sick and twisted the ANC is. They murdered the whistle blower who notified that 2 billion rand was stolen from a hospital fund (the crooks in government bought multiple fancy cars) and something like 1700 government workers were implicated directly in corruption via something called the Zondo commission and most of them are still in government)
Sorry I turned into a whole bunch of paragraphs at the drop of a hat. I'm just so concerned for my country
My friend just went to South Africa and said he literally had to have security detail everywhere he went. And he's a middle class American with no stature. He said security guards at the Airbnb, security guards at the store, etc. Is this true? If so, I'd say it's much more dangerous and fucked up in South Africa since I don't need security detail to go to the gas station here ...
Some places are safer than others. Some places uber can't even drive because we have a taxi mafia (it's a long story) that literally sets trains and buses on fire because they want to be the only vehicles allowed to drive. Minibus taxis. They sometimes fight with other rival minibus taxi operators and the taxi mafia works like a royalty system so the children of the higher ranking officials inherit their fleet. Honestly we need several documentaries made about our country. Again some places are safer than others but recently some of the traditionally safer places have gotten more dangerous. Lots of people have had necklaces snatched in a recent new kind of crime wave
You can drop that hat again. It's an interesting read to hear about Africa, I learned a few about it from a friend whom I met whenever I went to university. He pretty much told us, how terrible the government is and how there's so much corruption. I'm seriously big into collecting minerals, so we initially sparked up a conversation about how even the precious minerals such as Tanzanite and diamonds, aren't even owned by the country and how GB has ownership of their land. I was mentioning how expensive and high priced, Tanzanite is over diamond, that I bet the people of Tanzania is flourishing. That's when he broke the news to me. Yeah the government is 'bad' in the US, however it's worse in Africa. I feel for y'all!
Thanks. It's crazy because the government is treating it like a North Korea situation where they just make shit up in speeches and have cult like devotion from their subjects who they keep in poverty and uneducated on purpose because they discovered that when an ANC voter becomes educated they no longer vote for the ANC. The silent killer of a nations future is a broken education system and ours is fractured. The other mess up (this will be controversial) is that the party I used to vote for, the DA, has had leadership restructuring over the last decade and completely fell apart and the current version is essentially controlled by the WEF and EU and they are tearing apart the Western Cape (where they have a majority) by treating the middle class like fuel to burn, they vastly increased rates and property tariffs as well as making certain previously fixed costs or slightly more fair costs now based on property value and then they increased property value to further increase those rates and squeeze everyone harder, the problem is the DA voters are as brainwashed as the ANC voters and the DA and ANC are working together in the current Frankenstein government we have called the GNU (government of national unity) which allowed the ANC (who got 40% of the vote, first time that low) to keep 100% of certain already proven corrupt departments like DIRCO (omg please don't get me started on DIRCO) (department of international relations) they are captured by the IRGC and it's because the ANC was losing money Iran (the IRGC) paid them a ton of cash to take Israel to the international court of justice. It's once again sickening how the ANC pretends to operate from some moral high ground when they are some of the most evil morally bankrupt people in our current timeline
I’m not surprised to hear this. This kind of information is always suppressed by our media in the US. Unfortunate. The tide is turning however because MOTHER NATURE ALWAYS WINS!
