Dropped off pax into a police sting

Right after my passenger stepped out four cops sprawled out of a car and took the dude down. Couple more police vehicles pulled in after, dude I drove was definitely a tweaker but polite during the ride. 5 stars for wanted level. Cops told me if I "saw" them use force i should give a statement, he was glad when I told him I must of been looking away at that momentšŸ˜„ 🤣

EDIT: I see alot of folks are concerned if I witnessed police brutality. I definitely did not, the methed out passenger made a move to evade and was taken to ground. The original pickup spot was 2 blocks from my house and I didnt not see it necessary for my name to be linked to whatever case they have on him for my own safety. 15 years ago camping at the beach we were attempted robbed by 3 street gang members and put 2 of them in the hospital, 1 in critical ICU by defending ourselves. Our names got leaked to the attackers and we spent months worrying about retribution. Yes I have been arrested with unnecessary force before and magically the tape went missing, no it was not fun.

I fully advocate reporting of ANY police brutality, harassment, wrongful driving, etc. Again, there was nothing extreme about the manner in which he was taken down during apprehension.

Dear uber drivers

Dear uber drivers,

When I use uber, I mainly am a passenger. I’ve done Uber Eats for a little on the side. Wasn’t paid that good but I figured it was because of the area I live in, and also the fact I am under 21 so some deliveries I was probably not legally allowed to take. I also thought that the drivers who ā€œdeliverā€ people made more than just the food deliveries.

I noticed getting a ride like 10 miles away was EXPENSIVE. I’m a broke college student who’s car just broke down, who also works at autozone (they don’t pay you shit) so I thought I’d get an uber to and from work until it’s fixed. The first and only day I got one, it was 42 dollars to get to my work, 7.2 miles from my house, and 47 to get home. I’m gonna be honest, I only tipped a dollar because I thought ā€œhmm, this is practically half a tank of gas, I’m sure the uber driver will get a decent cutā€ boy was I fucking wrong

I was talking to my uber driver about being a ā€œperson delivery driverā€ and she mentioned how she declines any ride under $10 because of the cost of gas. I said ā€œwell hopefully you make a lot from this ride, it was 42 dollarsā€. She paused and said ā€œyou paid 42 fucking dollars? I’m only getting paid $11 for itā€

I am so fucking sorry. I am sorry for not tipping in the past. I am sorry for the people getting upset thinking you are making a living wage and not tipping. I’m sorry you have to literally live in your car, driving to make a living if this is your only car. I’m sorry uber keeps flaunting the shit they buy and the profit they’re making while you all slowly drown. I don’t know how you provide for your family, maintain your car, and still put gas in it with the tiny ass little cut they give you.

You deserve better.
Sincerely, a girl who’s just trying to make it in the world too.

TLDR: you guys are not even paid half of what us riders pay for the ride. That is shitty on Ubers part. I am so sorry for not being able to tip sometimes, and am so sorry your pay is basically getting stolen from you. I hope other riders read this and understand that the money we pay is not going to the driver so the money you make from tips is probably the only money you’re actually living on.

Look at this absolute lab rat grinning like she just won the lottery because Uber’s paying her enough to buy half a hash brown every hour.

Uber really sent this message to my inbox like they think we are happy to wait for $0.19 per minute. The lady in the image seems happy that she's burning her time and gas for half a hash brown. That smile has got to be fake. Enjoy your fake breakfast.

Gaslighting at its finest.

Decline Multiple Stops

Decline Waiting The Full Timer

Did anyone else get this bullshit?

She wanted a ride. I gave her a time-travel experience back to her own front door.

I picked up this girl—we'll call her girl because she don't have her shit together. She makes me wait 3 minutes to start the ride. Didn't say thanks for waiting. Okay, that's fine.

4 minutes into the trip and 8 more to go on a $5 and some change fare, she speaks up and says can we go back I forgot something.

Already frustrated with the experience, I told her, "Yeah, but if I take you back I'm not completing this trip."

Dropped her back off, and she huffed and puffed and slammed my door. At the end of the day both of us ended up with 1 stars.

To the drivers who hate conflict: grow some balls. I just came up from 4.88 to 4.90 and now I'm back at 4.89. Who cares.

Accepted a 4.77 guest ride and accidentally smuggled The Penguin out of the Gotham sewers.

I got a trip that was about thirty minutes in length. I arrive, she opens the door and yells "Uber!?". I said yup, she got in, and the trip started.

3 minutes in, I started to pick up a smell. I can't describe it. Pretty sure I had the Penguin himself sitting in my backseat.

I immediately shut the circulation off on the AC to prevent spreading the disease. I then continue to roll my window down halfway. That didn't work, so I cracked all the windows except hers. It was pure torture. I was legitimately wondering if Batman himself could survive this level of biological warfare.

I was praying for the Bat-Signal to save me as I kept staring at the GPS. The second she got out, I went to town with my odor eliminator and seat cleaner sprays.

Do you sit with the smell or make it obvious rolling the windows down?

Famous riders

A fun thread , hopefully! Who are famous riders you’ve had?

In the on and off 10 years of doing this, I’ve driven and had nice conversations with:

Russel Wilson
Howard Shultz
Ellie Goulding
Viggo Mortinsen
The main character woman Julianna from ā€œMan in the High Castleā€
Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa- the guy from Mortal Combat
A few of Seahawks, Mariners and visiting team players . I didn’t really know who many of them were until we got talking sports. Most baseball players just look like fit guys and it’s not obvious like an NFL lineman.

Strange experience last night as a rider that prompts the question: are drivers allowed to deviate from the Uber-provided route?

Hello Uber drivers,

I had a strange ride last night that made me want to ask you the question: are you allowed to deviate from the Uber in-app route? For example use Google maps or waze, etc, if it suggests a different route from Uber?

I took a long ride last night up a fairly secluded mountain road to a friends house. We encountered a dead end at a private gate that would normally require you to turn around and drive 10 minutes around in order to get to our destination. The Uber app suggested driving through the locked gate, and Google maps suggested driving the 10 minutes around. I explained this to the driver, and asked him to turn around and take the Google maps route so that we could proceed. Instead, he got very nervous and visibly irritated and said that if he deviates from the Uber navigation even slightly, his account would be banned. I asked what he wanted to do then and he contacted Uber driver support. He was on hold with them for a while (in the app), transferred departments, and ultimately never got a response. He got increasingly frustrated so I started getting weirded out and just cancelled the ride and got out of his car. It all worked out in the end and I was able to get another ride.

So: was he telling the truth? Would Uber actually ban you for following their (faulty) directions in this instance? Or was something else going on?

Rear ended on an active delivery. Three insurance companies and none of them think it's their problem.

I was stopped at a red light on Figueroa, in the middle of a delivery, when someone hit me hard enough to total my car. Now I’ve got whiplash and a lower back that won’t let me sit for more than 20 minutes. I can’t drive and I can’t work, and honestly I’m kind of freaking out.
The other driver’s insurance made me an offer, but it doesn’t even cover my ER visit. My personal auto insurer keeps asking if I was on the clock, and the delivery app hasn’t responded at all. On top of that, I never told my insurer I do deliveries, so I’m worried my policy won’t cover this.
Do I need an accident attorney, or can I realistically sort this out myself? I’m not sure what to do here.
Am I doomed?

PSA for Ride-Share Drivers as Robotaxis Eat Jobs

Hello friends, I'm sure many of ya'll have concerns about Robotaxis like Waymo and Tesla taking your job. This is a real, and valid concern. No one wants to be jobless. It's not a question of if, but when self-driving vehicles take your job. They already deployed in over 15 U.S. cities and hundreds globally.

It's not a time to panic or protest.
With new technology comes new jobs and new opportunities as well.
Experts predict it will be 5-10+ years until most ride-sharing jobs are gone.
Many in early markets are already feeling the squeeze.
There is time to prepare for the future.

I put together some related and high demand jobs that you can start looking at or applying for.

Everyone has their own background and interests to consider, but perhaps pass this along or at least start thinking about options.

I just post this because I wish someone would have given me a heads up in my career and helped give me some advice before it was too late.

Best of luck to all of us humans! ā¤ļø

Career Option Estimated Entry Training Time Upfront Cost Pay / Career Trajectory
AV Fleet & Safety Driver 1–4 Weeks None (Employer paid) Moderate
NEMT / Medical Logistics 1–2 Weeks Low / Employer paid Moderate
Commercial Driver (CDL) 3–8 Weeks Low to Moderate (Company-sponsored options available) Moderate to High
HVAC Technician 6–12 Months Moderate (Trade school or paid apprenticeship) High
Electrician 4–5 Years (Earn while you learn) Very Low (Paid apprenticeship model) Very High

School Pickup

I picked up a lady this afternoon for a trip to a local elementary school. The school was the 1st stop, and her house was the last stop (she was at work). I didn't put 2 and 2 together when I accepted the ride. When we got to the school, there was a huge ass line of cars waiting to pick up their kids and it hit me. I asked her if there was somewhere she wanted to be dropped off and she said no, we need to get her kid. I accepted defeat and waited in the line for 15 minutes before we got her kid. My only alternative was to kick her out and end the ride. Never again. I'm going to look REAL close next time I see an offer at that time of day.

W2 Jobs Also Suck.

In Gig worker discussions and media about gig work. W2 jobs are portrayed as more stable, predictable, and just overall better. You know what. They can suck too. They can rip you off, F you over, just not pay you for weeks because of their payroll cycle then promise to make it up to you on the next check.

I am about to get only my third paycheck from my W2 job. It appears, based on the stub I see, it will be $1200 dollars short. I only try to do a bit of Uber to fill in the gap and gross 400 ish dollars per week. This is three weeks of my planned earnings that I just won't get because of a paperwork issue.

This is aside from other issues. At the same time there is one worse thing. Back when a paper check was common, sometimes ones paycheck could bounce. Say what you will about gig based service work such as Uber driving. It pays badly when expenses are accounted for but at least it pays what it says it will (more or less) right that same day.

So if you are a driver who has anxiety about not having a w2 job and wants one... just relax. They can suck too.

UPDATE: INSURANCE VERIFICATION SOLVED

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hello!

I’m posting this as a means to help future drivers during the signup process, as I’ve seen other people facing this same issue.

When I went to sign up to become a driver, I was having issues with my insurance verification. My name is not on my insurance card, but Uber wouldn’t accept the card nor my insurance declaration with my name on it. I tried every method.

If you’re having this issue, call Uber support. As soon as an agent picks up, notify them that your insurance (or whatever document) is NOT going thru in the system, nor thru ā€œescalationā€. Ask to speak with a supervisor. They will transfer you to a supervisor who will review it over the phone and can validate it on the spot.

I’d been going back and forth with support for a WEEK trying to get this all sorted out, trying different methods suggested by Uber, Google, and Reddit. This is the only solution that worked for me (after maybe 50 rejected attempts?), and I wanted to share it since I know I’m not the only one to have dealt with this issue.

Happy money maki—I mean driving!

(P.s. I feel dumb to not have thought about asking for a supervisor before, but no one had told me to try it before. Any time I was OTP with a human, they said it would get ā€œescalatedā€ to some mysterious entity that never ended up working anyways)

Bro is out here taking 'directives' from Agent Rajesh in support like he gets a 401(k)

Post image

Bro really hopped in to tell me about "Uber's customer support directive" like Agent Rajesh at the offshore call center issued him a binding memo.

Take every single ride given

Cater to rider's every need

Bow down and lick their boot

TF out of here

Meanwhile, Agent Rajesh is sitting in a call center somewhere reading a script off a Post-it note while we pay for our own gas, tires, and maintenance. Stay strong out there.

Would you gamble on this rating PAX. This reservation pays double the normal fair. Debating if it’s worth it to risks a 1 Star from PAX.

Saw this one that pays double the normal fair for same distance. Every time I’ve taken below 4.5, I’ve gotten a low rating drop shortly after. This the worst I’ve seen.

Funny story?

This is so minuscule but this interaction got me so flabbergasted that its so stupid it made me laugh

I drove two passengers for over an hour. Lovely people. Sometimes we’d be quiet, sometimes they’d talk amongst themselves, and sometimes we’d all talk. We had some things in common and seemed to get along really well.

Well, the SECOND I pull up to their destination, I turn around to say, ā€œIt was a pleasure, thank you, bye!ā€

These people were IN AND OUT THE DOOR before I could even finish my sentence.šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚

NO eye contact. NO thank you. NO bye. NOTHING. LMAOOOO. Just the quickest exit from a car I’ve ever witnessed in my LIFE.

I was SO shocked. Like, I was genuinely confused. I’ve never had that happen before.

I’ve had less pleasant rides. I’ve had super quiet rides. I’ve had rides where barely a word was exchanged. And even THEN, people will at least look at you, say thank you, say bye, or acknowledge you in SOME way.
But THESE PEOPLE??? NOTHING.😭🤣

I literally was mid sentence as the door was slammed on me.

No tip either.
A little over an hour ride. Very pleasant ride. We laughed so much together.
This was so weird
