Smelly Passengers: I asked an Emergency Room doctor how she deals with smelly patients. WARNING: You will lose all hope in humanity if you read this post
I picked up a doctor from a local hospital. She said she is an ER doctor so I told her how we frequently get smelly passengers and asked how she deals with smelly patients.
(This is your last chance to exit and stop reading this.)
She says that she gets smelly patients all the time. Technically, they are not supposed to be brought into the hospital due to the risk of the patient spreading serious infections and they should be brought to a rehab first to be cleaned up, but with emergencies that can't happen.
I asked her what does she tell them if they smell like cat pee, weed, etc.
She says she cannot say anything about them smelling bad because they can sue her and sue the hospital. The smelly person can claim they were emotionally traumatized and required expensive therapy because the doctor said something about how they smell. She can lose her job with the hospital if she says anything.
So there you go. Keep your mouth shut. The smelly people win.

PSA for Ride-Share Drivers as Robotaxis Eat Jobs
Hello friends, I'm sure many of ya'll have concerns about Robotaxis like Waymo and Tesla taking your job. This is a real, and valid concern. No one wants to be jobless. It's not a question of if, but when self-driving vehicles take your job. They already deployed in over 15 U.S. cities and hundreds globally.
It's not a time to panic or protest.
With new technology comes new jobs and new opportunities as well.
Experts predict it will be 5-10+ years until most ride-sharing jobs are gone.
Many in early markets are already feeling the squeeze.
There is time to prepare for the future.
I put together some related and high demand jobs that you can start looking at or applying for.
Everyone has their own background and interests to consider, but perhaps pass this along or at least start thinking about options.
I just post this because I wish someone would have given me a heads up in my career and helped give me some advice before it was too late.
Best of luck to all of us humans! ❤️

Drive there without them?
If they are 3 “adults” and 3 kids, who should be in car seats, and they get an attitude with you when you say you need to have everyone in a seatbelt…then refuse to cancel their own ride. Would you complete the ride without them and report them for not having car seats or cancel it yourself and report them for not having car seats??
Asking for a friend…

Look at this absolute lab rat grinning like she just won the lottery because Uber’s paying her enough to buy half a hash brown every hour.
Uber really sent this message to my inbox like they think we are happy to wait for $0.19 per minute. The lady in the image seems happy that she's burning her time and gas for half a hash brown. That smile has got to be fake. Enjoy your fake breakfast.
Gaslighting at its finest.

Customer entitlement
I accept a ride going a pretty far distance to pick up. Half way thru they call telling me they don’t need the ride please cancel. I tell them to cancel thru the app, she asked what app. The uber app ma’am. She says ok and hangs up and doesn’t cancel so I’m waiting at the pick up right now til I can get my cancel fee. Some people just don’t want to pay the cancellation fee.

Booster seats
chiccousa.comDo any of you provide or have a booster seat in your trunk available for 4-8 year olds ? My research shows that you can shift responsibility to the parent by having them secure the child and seat even when you provide it. I hate driving away from a parent, but the liabilty is too high for myself for unrestrained children.

Riders Slamming door!
I’m done with these disrespectful riders that slam my door when entering and slamming after they exit even after being asked to not slam the car door.
I have rattling in my doors because of all the slamming they do so I have something for these bastards.
Getting a Water gun with stink juice go ahead and slam my door if you like you will get stink sprayed and receive 1 Star.
Slamming doors is disrespectful and causes unnecessary maintenance to stop the rattling caused by constant slamming of the door. It amazes me how many do it like 7/10 riders do this shit. WHY?

Waited
Waited 20 mins outside a store. Didn’t say anything to the massive person, took them where they were going and still got a one star. Uber is really unfair about this stuff. No one to contact smh

Accepted a 4.77 guest ride and accidentally smuggled The Penguin out of the Gotham sewers.
I got a trip that was about thirty minutes in length. I arrive, she opens the door and yells "Uber!?". I said yup, she got in, and the trip started.
3 minutes in, I started to pick up a smell. I can't describe it. Pretty sure I had the Penguin himself sitting in my backseat.
I immediately shut the circulation off on the AC to prevent spreading the disease. I then continue to roll my window down halfway. That didn't work, so I cracked all the windows except hers. It was pure torture. I was legitimately wondering if Batman himself could survive this level of biological warfare.
I was praying for the Bat-Signal to save me as I kept staring at the GPS. The second she got out, I went to town with my odor eliminator and seat cleaner sprays.
Do you sit with the smell or make it obvious rolling the windows down?

Strange experience last night as a rider that prompts the question: are drivers allowed to deviate from the Uber-provided route?
Hello Uber drivers,
I had a strange ride last night that made me want to ask you the question: are you allowed to deviate from the Uber in-app route? For example use Google maps or waze, etc, if it suggests a different route from Uber?
I took a long ride last night up a fairly secluded mountain road to a friends house. We encountered a dead end at a private gate that would normally require you to turn around and drive 10 minutes around in order to get to our destination. The Uber app suggested driving through the locked gate, and Google maps suggested driving the 10 minutes around. I explained this to the driver, and asked him to turn around and take the Google maps route so that we could proceed. Instead, he got very nervous and visibly irritated and said that if he deviates from the Uber navigation even slightly, his account would be banned. I asked what he wanted to do then and he contacted Uber driver support. He was on hold with them for a while (in the app), transferred departments, and ultimately never got a response. He got increasingly frustrated so I started getting weirded out and just cancelled the ride and got out of his car. It all worked out in the end and I was able to get another ride.
So: was he telling the truth? Would Uber actually ban you for following their (faulty) directions in this instance? Or was something else going on?

Umm, no
So I lose money and take a cancel hit? No thanks

My health insurance review keeps getting rejected for the prop 22 stipend in CA
Is anybody having an issue when uploading their documentation for their health insurance for the eligibility of the stipend? I’ve been submitting it for the past 15 days and it keeps getting rejected. I wasn’t having these issues the previous quarters or even last year. It’s always been the same document I upload.
I’ve talked to support on the phone, I’ve asked to speak to supervisors and they keep telling me to submit it again.
I even asked if a supervisor can manually review and approve it. They straight out lied and said Uber isn’t in charge of approving those documents. (Mind you this was a supervisor, and she hung up the phone after saying that).
I just want to know if anyone else is having this issue and if they found a way to get past this.
(For reference I have Kaiser as my insurance). I don’t know if that helps.

W2 Jobs Also Suck.
In Gig worker discussions and media about gig work. W2 jobs are portrayed as more stable, predictable, and just overall better. You know what. They can suck too. They can rip you off, F you over, just not pay you for weeks because of their payroll cycle then promise to make it up to you on the next check.
I am about to get only my third paycheck from my W2 job. It appears, based on the stub I see, it will be $1200 dollars short. I only try to do a bit of Uber to fill in the gap and gross 400 ish dollars per week. This is three weeks of my planned earnings that I just won't get because of a paperwork issue.
This is aside from other issues. At the same time there is one worse thing. Back when a paper check was common, sometimes ones paycheck could bounce. Say what you will about gig based service work such as Uber driving. It pays badly when expenses are accounted for but at least it pays what it says it will (more or less) right that same day.
So if you are a driver who has anxiety about not having a w2 job and wants one... just relax. They can suck too.

I got screamed at by a driver
I just need to rant, yesterday my fiance and I were going to the laundromat with a bunch of bags, we took an uber there that was just a normal sedan and we were able to fit all the bags in, on the way home I ordered a normal Uber and it was a guy in a huge SUV so I wasn’t at all worried about getting my laundry in.
the guy gets out when he gets to me and as he’s about to open the trunk he was like “uh you have a lot of stuff you have to order an XL, so I was like oh it’s just laundry we got it in a smaller car on the way here it should fit, then he starts screaming at me calling me an asshole and stupid for not ordering the right one and I said okay just cancel please then, and he’s yelling at me still calling me an asshole and a bitch telling me to fuck off then he gets back in the car and is still yelling an flipping me off??? We were both so confused how it escalated so incredibly fast?? He then drove away but took 15 min to cancel.
I’m just so frustrated because there was genuinely no way to contact uber immediately I had to talk to the stupid AI bot, I eventually got thru to them and they made sure I wasn’t charged and said they’ll investigate the driver but is it likely he’ll actually be punished for this??

Glad the summer heat is about to finally be over?
I personally am, but it's still around 75-85 degrees still. I will be glad when it really cools down and gets to real fall weather. Hopefully soon. The reason why is sometimes when I grind I will be out all day and sometimes I am not close to home and would like to park for a small nap. You can't do that in the boiling hell hot summer. It will be nice to just really grind all day and when I feel sleepy I can park and just sleep without needing to leave the A/C on with the car on. Also I feel more people use ridesharing in the fall and winter months.

Who has driven for Empower and can explain how the money works?
I heard someone mention it’s $25 a month and I am assuming they take that out of your fares but don’t see anything in app about how we get paid. First few times my experience is no rides within 30 minutes. If there’s a charge wouldn’t we want to make the most on their app before committing to be paying them? Anyone who has taken trips on them want to help me grasp these payment questions?
