Hey, so for context, I’m a student at a North High school in Edmonton and have applied to U Of A back on September 30th. I am someone who was waitlisted quite quickly and am not that shocked since I do know that the Physiology BsC major and Engineering sector is quite competitive, and am going to make a program change request asap. (For some reason it won’t let me even tho it’s been 14 days already…) I put in every course I could for the application but now am wondering if they calculated my average using all my courses when I only wanted them to look at 5 for the BsC. (Also , no, there wasn’t an option to select them for the specific programs . Not sure how to make the courses I wanted to be used work for the BsC.) average for 5 courses I was hoping they look at would be 94.4 (English messed up that averags..) and average for engineering would be 93. (Yeah now I know that’s too low….)
But, I realize that almost NOBODY else in my classes have been accepted for early admission, the ratio has been insane. Like 3 out of 30 people are being accepted into u Of A . And when I talked to my friend who has been in u Of A for 2 years, she had a lower grade 11 average than me and got into biochemistry. I know I didn’t select biochemistry, maybe I would’ve gotten in if I did. I’ve been told now to change the major to general Biological sciences .
But is it true that competition has gotten really crazy now? Like back in the day the average was 90 but now it’s 97? Thanks.
TLDR: Everyone is being waitlisted in my school and I’m want to know which major is the least competitive in 2026.
