Memorising a list before a test? Put the cards where you already look - your Lock Screen
what broke my flashcard habit was never the cards - it was remembering to open the app
what worked better: put the cards where I already look. a few ways to do it:
- free, no app: write the 5-10 terms you keep missing on a note, screenshot it, set it as your Lock Screen wallpaper. swap it every couple of days
- active recall version: put only the questions on the wallpaper. every time you pick up your phone, say the answer in your head before you unlock
- spaced version: the cards you miss come back sooner, the ones you know come back later. this is the part that is a pain to do by hand
I got tired of swapping wallpapers, so I built a free iPhone app that does the spaced version on a Lock Screen widget. paste a list (a Quizlet export works), set your test date, answer in your head, tap to check. no account, no in-app purchases
it's in App Review now - you can get an email the day it's out: https://terminus-cards.pages.dev/?tag=reddit-studytips
works for anything with a fixed list and a fixed date - vocab, anatomy terms, drug names, formulas, kanji
