Hi. Am swapping my prebuilt pc case to a new case. Everything is going ok although it definitely is YouTube videos leading me here. Not sure why but my motherboard is not lifting. I’ve unplugged everything and undone the 9 screws on it but it just won’t budge. I don’t really know what that black pillar is but it was on the middle right and bottom screw. Can anyone help please?

Network Router Problems

Post image

Ok, so this may not be an actual PC problem, but I figured I could still get some help from here. My wifi is out, and my router is reminding me of the RRoD, if you know what I mean. Anyone have any ideas what the red means, cause it is usually green, which is why it made me think of the RRoD.

HARDWARE Planning on getting a gaming desktop, which should I get?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I was gonna get a gaming laptop, but I'm considering my options, & found 3 gaming desktops that may be better for me, so I figured I'd see which is better for me.

(Btw, from left to right they're cheapest to most expensive, but the 2nd & 3rd don't have much between them, so the first is the budget option, the other two are just a simple comparison.)

HARDWARE Horizontal green lines on my screen

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I got this new monitor a week ago and all was well until i started seeing some random pixels that keep alternating, then at some point i started seeing these green lines on the monitor. Both problems' fix was to shut off the monitor then open it back up. This time tho when i got it, i made sure to take a picture so that i know what that is but then i tried to look at the monitor's menu and nothing was there? so now i don't know if it's an issue with the monitor or with my laptop's hardware and would like any info/ help that i can find here

SOFTWARE Really creepy face

Hello guys, I just remembered something I saw back when I was a child early in 2000s and hope someone could let me know what exactly it was.

So around this time my dad had a PC with Windows 95 or 98 on it and I remember this one time specifically when I went to turn on the computer, it took a while to boot up and then when it did boot up, there was this black screen with this really creepy face and some text written next to it. It was kind of ghostly because I just remember the only colors being the black background and these white/grayish outlines of this figure. I'll try to draw it on paint to give y'all some idea what it looked like. The image in question. I think it was also pointing at me but my skills weren't good enough for me to draw a hand lmao.

Now I think the head might've also been tilted a bit more to the right and was probably a bit more elongated as well.

This thing has stuck with me for like 25 years now and I remember when this happened, I bolted to the stairs, was going up a bit and then I stopped on the stairs and just kept staring at this creepy image from between the stairs and then I continued up the stairs to get my stepsister to come look at this face but she was busy at the time so she didn't come downstairs with me to see it.

If needed, I'll try to provide more information if I can remember, but I really need to know what this thing was, it's creeped me out ever since.

I also apologize if this isn't the right subreddit for this but I'm trying to go to any computer related subreddit to find anything about this 😓.

HARDWARE Is my screen destroyed? Alienware 16X Aurora 16"

Post image

About 6 hours ago my laptop somehow turned itself on and was left running for ~30 minutes when I was away and when I got back it was extremely hot and the screen looked like this

The black was gradually fading downwards but I could barely move the screen and it was leaving behind after images

It was unplugged and put on the ground immediately after and has been there since, but I’m worried that this is permanent, is there any way to fix this? Does it fix itself?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I just reactivated the laptop and it seems to be (relatively) fine! Both bottom corners were much lighter when starting it up but the screen was normal after that

Still gonna let it rest until tomorrow just to be sure, I’m assuming the heat probably did permanent damage even though it looks fine

HARDWARE M.2 SSD is too hot on idle

Hello everyone, my m.2 ssd is awfully hot at idle. It first starts off at 50c then slowly climbs to the mid 60's, not to mention the temps for sensor 1. I removed the thermal cover to use sharpie on the led because there was a bright green flash that always bothered me, then I put everything back. I've screwed everything as far as it goes before stopping at a reasonable pressure. No I never checked the temps before painting the led so I don't know if it has always been like this. I got this expensive drive just a month ago. This is a boot drive btw.

The temps should be theoretically normal, I have intake fans blowing directly into the area. The motherboard is an asus tuf b850 e wifi which places it above the gpu, and my cpu cooler is a dark rock pro 5, all my other temps are excellent.

Good morning everyone, I've owning my 9070 XT for a year now, and a few months ago I had the same problem, I uninstalled the drivers in order to get a new version, I used DDU and after that I installed the new drivers but after restart I couldn't do nothing, I can't open browser, discord, any game etc, in the first photo it shows the AMD software and seconds later no

Can anyone help me please? I did the same steps that work me before

1) safe mode

2) DDU and clean all drivers for the GPU

HARDWARE WHEA-Logger Event 1 Crash

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey guys, good news and bad news. Good news is, I just saved up and bought an RX 9060xt 16gb gpu and a 650W PSU (the recomended wattage for the 9060 was 450, but I went higher to be safe). It's a massive jump from my old Geforce GT730, but sigh.

The bad news is, ever since I got them installed, there's been a recurring crash in my pc. When I game for about an hour or so (and not even during heavier games, my shi froze up during Assassin's creed 2 😭), my screen just entirely freezes while the last sound that was playing becomes static. And it's not just an app crash, either. Control+Esc, Task Manager, Alt+F4. nothing works, the only way out is to long press the power button and force a shutdown. It physically hurts when I do that btw. When I navigate the Event viewer, this is what I see. I'm very new to proper gaming, and I'm still trying to figure things out. I'd appreciate help in decoding whatever gibberish windows is throwing at me.

My cpu has a 12th gen i5 12400f processor, so I'm like 90% sure it's not an overclocking issue.

OPEN Can’t get 4K 240hz 10bpc on Alienware 3225qf

I have an rx 9070xt as my graphics card . For reference everything is new, I got them about three weeks ago and built my PC about a week ago. When using the Display port cable I couldn’t get over 60hz then when I switched the ends it allowed up to 120hz, online it said somewhere that this could indicate a faulty cable . I tried using the HDMI cable that came with the monitor and it does allow 4K 240hz 10bpc but the monitor disconnects from my pc after 10-20 minutes . The screen goes black and a no signal message comes up, the when I go to turn it off a message saying ‘the refresh process did not finish’ .This does not happen if I either switch to 120hz or if I switch to 8bpc. I tried a clean install using AMD clean up utility . I’ve tried everything I’ve seen when looking it up online but nothing seems to work, the only thing left seems to be that both my cables are faulty or for some reason cannot handle the bandwidth, but they should since they came with the monitor. The only other thing is that maybe the DP cable wasn’t plugged in properly, it says that no metal should show , some did show but when I tried I could push it in anymore.
If anyone has any help I would be incredibly grateful.
Edit: Just disconnected at 4K 240hz and 8 bpc so seems like 240hz at all doesn’t work.

I have a 9800x3d 6000ram rtx4090. My computer was working perfectly fine this morning. I went to play this evening and the screen was black. I tried turning the computer off and on and now it just won't post and stays on 00. I tried inspecting the CPU. There are no burn marks or broken pins or debris. One ram stick didn't post. I tried unplugging cables and back in

OPEN 6 unsuccessful repairs, $1000 spent, pls help.

This explanation will be a little long winded, but please bear with me and let me know if you have any ideas as to what's wrong. At the beginning of August, I came home from working a summer job abroad, and was pleased to get back to gaming, but that's when the problems began. My pc would only boot up 1 out of 3 attempts (ish), and I would have to power cycle it to try to boot it again. After booting, it ran with no problems, but eventually it stopped booting up entirely. I then took it to a local repair shop, and when the guy finished the repair the next day, he told me the issue was that my gpu had reached the end of its life, and was overheating too easily, and causing issues. He had gotten it running again, but the gpu would need replacement. So, I bit the bullet and ordered an AMD 9060, and tried using my semi repaired pc in the interim. It lasted about a day, and stopped booting again. It's worth mentioning that the pc would power up, lights on, fans on, etc, but I would get no signal on my monitor. A week later, my new gpu arrived, and I installed it, only to find that my pc still wouldn't boot up. I took it back to the repair guy, and he said he'd fix it no problem. He didn't specify what the issue was, but he had wiped my drives and reset windows. This time it booted up, and everything ran great, and the new gpu was a huge upgrade. I was very pleased, but then, as I was playing Doom Dark Ages, my pc just froze up entirely. not just the game, but my whole pc. screen was frozen on the last frame of gameplay, and the pc was still on, but I had absolutely no output of any kind, no alt f4, ctrl alt del, no task manager, nothing, so I just had to hold my power button and shut it down. This problem repeated itself many times, at seemingly random intervals, the only discernible pattern was that it lasted longer before crashing when running lighter games, but it would sometimes even just crash on a web browser. I took it back to the repair guy, and he said my power supply was faulty. I couldn't afford a new power supply, but then me and my friend dismantled his pc that he wasn't using anymore, and brought in his power supply to replace mine with. his was only 500w, which was not enough for my hardware, but we figured it was better than a faulty power supply. unsurprisingly, my pc was still crashing, but it was slightly less often. I then bit the bullet and borrowed $150 from my dad to buy a new 850w power supply, and took it to the repair guy to get it installed. I got it home yesterday, and it still crashes. I am at a loss, I'm out of money, and I'm not sure I trust that repair guy's skills anymore. If anyone has ANY ideas as to what the issue could be, or any further questions about my hardware to help narrow it down, pls answer!!

Also ik I only wrote about 4 repairs but there were 2 others in which no hardware was changed
