Building lasting careers behind the camera through Olympic Broadcasting
At the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Olympic Broadcasting Services continues to support pathways for women in roles behind the camera.
Four participants who took part in the 'Framing the Future' programme at Paris 2024, an OBS initiative designed to increase representation of women in camera operating roles, will rejoin the broadcast operation in Dakar. The experiences of Jade Lévin, Elisabeth Jolly, Elizaveta Luzina and Coline Soulier demonstrate how a single opportunity can become a foundation for professional growth in sports broadcasting.

The Barcelona 92 olympic torch has two peculiarities regarding its preservation.
First of all, after several years seaching one of them in really good condition, recently I got it.
The first aspect to consider is the finish chrome plated aluminum, which is susceptible to minor dings, scratches, and oxidation. Many of these torches show signs of pitting, scratching, or some degree of oxidation, however, there are many others with the chrome plating still well-preserved.
The second and most important detail, that's I show with these pics.
The torch handle is wrapped in leather, and as I mentioned to find torches with the chrome plating in good condition is not hard, but yes the leather handle, 98% to 99% of them have leather handles that show significant wear, including scuffs, scratches, and nicks. For this reason, when assessing the condition of a Barcelona '92 torch, the leather handle is just as important to consider as the chrome plating. In fact, out of the roughly 150 to 200 torches I have seen come up for auction at prestigious auction houses and spanish platforms over the last 10 years, only two, plus the one I recently acquired, a total of 3 with a handle in really good condition.

The First Man to Break the 10-Second Barrier 1968 | Jim Hines
On This Day, October 14, 1968, American sprinter Jim Hines became the first man to officially run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds using fully automatic timing, clocking an astonishing 9.95 seconds at the Mexico City Olympic Games.
For decades, the 10-second barrier had stood as one of athletics’ most challenging milestones. Hines shattered it on the Olympic stage, winning the gold medal and setting a world record.
But his journey to greatness was unexpected.
Known by his full name, James Ray Hines, he had played baseball during his younger years. His extraordinary running talent was spotted by track coach Jim Coleman, who encouraged him to pursue sprinting.
That discovery helped launch a remarkable athletic career.
At the Mexico City Olympics, Hines defeated Jamaica’s Lennox Miller and fellow American Charlie Greene to claim the 100-metre title. His performance made him the first athlete to break the 10-second barrier in the event with automatic timing and a legal wind reading.
And he wasn’t finished.
Hines later helped the United States win gold in the 4 × 100-meter relay, setting another world record with his teammates.
His individual 100-meter world record stood for nearly 15 years before fellow American Calvin Smith ran 9.93 seconds on July 3, 1983.
After retiring from athletics, Hines pursued professional American football, playing for the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs.
Jim Hines transformed himself from a young baseball player into an Olympic champion who changed the history of sprinting.

Does anyone know when the IOC will confirm it, or are there other proposals?
If they end up holding it in Munich, I’ll set aside a couple of days to go to the trade fair and visit the city.

Is the current US’ administration stopping you from attending LA28?
We have family in California, including LA, so taking my young family (kids who’ll be 6 and 4) to the ‘Games seemed like a pretty achievable thing to us 2 years ago. Now however, we’re just not sure The USA is a place we want to visit. Anyone else from outside The US’ in the same boat?

Need Help Confirming Location(s) of Athens 1896 Tennis Matches
Hi, everyone. I am doing some research on the 1896 Athens Olympics, and one of my books, The Pictures of the First Olympiad by Albert Meyer and other photographers, claims that on Day 3 (April 4th), "the tennis tournament opened at the temple of Zeus." I assume they mean the temple of Olympian Zeus, just next to Hadrian's Arch and a short distance from the Panathenaic Stadium. However, this is the only reference to tennis being held there that I have seen, and there are no photos of the temple in the book. As far as I know, the tennis matches were held at the Athens Lawn Tennis Club, which is very close to the temple but not, in my opinion, "at" the temple.
Does anyone have more insight on whether tennis, or for that matter any contest in 1896, was actually held at the temple of Zeus? Thank you.

2026 Asian Games organizers in Japan send apology to South Korea over mishaps
This year's Asian Games hosted in Aichi-Nagoya (Japan) have been full of disasters and controversies with incidents, and the organisers have sent an apology letter to the South Korean Olympic Comittee (KSOC) as they have particularly affected the South Korean athletes.
The list of incidents involve the below:
- - Scheduled buses not showing up to pick up athletes from their hotel, or arriving too late so teams having to skip training before crucial matches (gold medal matches against Japan for example)
- - Buses taking athletes to the wrong stadium several times, causing training to be skipped before crucial matches.
- - Training ground being unsuitable for training, and no alternatives provided, causing teams to find their own local training grounds.
- - South Korean flag (gold medal) not being risen at the medal ceremony... (e.g. in the final game of the tournament, the biggest sport football - Japan got Silver, and South Korea got Gold, but during the medal ceremony while the SK national anthem was playing, they conveniently 'could not' raise the SK flag. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYWIQg2XAlU&t=11s ).
- - Playing the wrong national anthem (North Korean anthem playing for South Korea).
- - Not having enough accommodation so athletes having to sleep on the ground.
- - War criminal costume at welcoming ceremony.
- - No coverage for international viewers.
- - Athletes having to play up to 3 games per day.
- - "Accidentally" calling Gold Medal country (South Korea) by another name (Republic of China).

What exactly is this medal?
I can't find anything quite like it. Note that the front features the 1976 Montreal Summer games, but the obverse shows the 1976 Innsbruck Winter games. Additionally, every participation and souvenir medal I can find online is perfectly round with an embossed laurel wreath, but this one features the laurel wreath at the bottom that physically extends to make it no longer circular. Best I can guess is that its meant for the Olympic committee that year or something?

Athletes affected by Covid-19 otw to TOKYO 2020
As we might or might not know Tokyo 2020 was postponed a year later. Were there any good athletes in general who missed going because of covid or just weren’t in the best health to do as well as they could have. I know some people said Dina and Arina Averina (Rhythmic Gymnastics) that they would’ve taken gold and silver if the games weren’t pushed back

Beijing 2008 Olympics merch
I thrifted two neckties in a blue box labeled “Beijing 2008” with the Olympic rings and a sign of sorts. I’m quite sure one of the ties is either a fake or defected production piece the other ( blue tie) however I can’t seem to find on the internet. Has anyone ever seen these or know how to figure out if it’s authentic or not.

Boxing How to sell my boxing tickets
Hi all
During drop 1 I purchased BOX22 tickets for 2 of us. Our plans have since changed and we will not be able to attend on that date.
How do we go about selling them? Are there platforms open to sell them yet?
Thank you.
