We just announced the new Nikon Z5IIC, everyday-carry mirrorless camera designed to make the move to full-frame photography more accessible. Built on the proven performance of the award-winning Z5II, the new Z5IIC combines a more compact, flat-top design with intuitive features like Scene Modes, helping those beginning their photography journey achieve great results. The “C” stands for casual- The Z5IIC is designed around a screen-first shooting experience that helps users remain immersed in the moment, with intuitive controls and automated features for those ready to learn/.
Main features include:
-Fast, precise subject detection AF built on deep-learning technology make it easy to capture sharp photos and video of fast-moving children, pets, sports and everyday moments. Also, new "fish" mode subject recognition.

For first-time full-frame users, that means visibly superior photos and videos with less noise and blur, even when the light is challenging.

My Nikon Refurbished 24-120 f4 just arrived,
bought it for $844 including tax. Got the 180-600 for birding/wildlife and 40 f2 for night photography. Do others have same set up?

Very keen to get this in. I think I’m either gonna absolutely love it or try to sell it immediately. Anybody else got one coming?

Wanted to post these here bc I’ve found the analog subs are pretty harsh critics and this is less about me trying to brag on my photos than it is about discussing how utterly impressive the F4S feels even today.
Admittedly I know these aren’t the most interesting shots, but this concert was truthfully the first event I’d ever covered seriously on film or ever used my F4S at, and I’m honestly shocked by how absurdly well it performed.
I covered the concert predominantly on digital and then used the F4S during setup / intermissions / lulls in the action; I had the 50 1.4 Ai-S and I shot on HP5+ pushed to 3200 in aperture priority and genuinely like 90% of the roll turned out phenomenal. There were a fair number of similar shots which is my fault for having the bad carryover habit of burst shooting on digital, but the camera found focus shockingly easily given the lighting situation, and it also metered incredibly well IMO. I knew the F4S was a well regarded SLR in Nikon’s lineup, I guess I just didn’t expect it to be exactly as capable as it is. I’m a decent photographer, but a novice on film, and to get results like this on the first roll is genuinely a testament to this beast of a camera.
Picked up the 17-35 F/2.8D ED-IF today, and I’m excited to put a ton more rolls through this thing!

Quick question for those of you who put skins or wraps on your cameras. Why do you use them? Is it mainly for looks and personalisation, or do they actually serve a practical purpose, like protecting the camera from scratches?
If I already have a cage on my camera, is there really a need for one?
Also, for those who use them, do they trap heat? I do a lot of video recording, so that’s something I’m a bit concerned about.
I’m using the Nikon Z8. Would you recommend getting a skin for it, and if so, which one? Just trying to figure out if it’s actually worth it or if it’s more of a cosmetic thing. Would love to hear your experiences!
Thanks in advance.

It's me from the look I got a Z9 post from yesterday.
I actually got it on Tuesday, had a day to play with it, update the firmware, reset the body, and set my custom settings. Then I took it to shoot an event last night and it was an unimitigated disaster.
For context:
Bad AF happened on the 24-70 2.8 F with an FTZII and a 50mm 1.4 Z
I am an experienced event shooter used to working in dark rooms or rooms with terrible/weird light.
I read the AF parts of the manual beforehand and watched some videos knowing this was one of the biggest changes and one that I was looking forward to with the Z9
I have used mirrorless cameras before, a Sony A7rIII that I used to shoot events for a few years, and I own a Ricoh GRIII and a Leica Q2.
I have never seen AF performance this poor. I am pretty confident my F4 would have handled this without issue. AF was missing by 6+ feet even in AF-S with focus release priority on. The camera was just lost. Can I get a sanity check here? I don't want to put my coworkers faces on blast in the top of a Reddit post, so I will throw a few samples from NX Studio showing the focus points and the results in the comments....it's bad.
Thankfully the ebay seller is being cool and taking it back. I just need to know if I am being crazy here or I just obviously got a dud.

Hi everyone,
I’m stuck between the Nikon Z 24–70mm f/4 S and the Z 24–200mm f/4–6.3 VR for my Z6 III.
I shoot both cycling photos and videos, mostly in daylight. My budget is tight, so I’m looking for one lens that can cover most of my work.
The 24–70mm appeals to me for its sharpness and constant f/4. My idea is to use DX mode occasionally when I need tighter framing, although I know that only gives roughly 105mm-equivalent framing at 70mm and reduces photos to 10.6MP.
The 24–200mm seems more practical for cycling, but I’m wondering how much image quality I’d sacrifice for that flexibility.
For anyone who has used both:
Is the sharpness difference noticeable in real-world photos and 4K video?
Would you feel limited by 70mm when shooting cycling?
Which would you choose as your only lens for this use?
Thank you

Hi all,
I currently have a D5600 and use it mostly for small youtube videos or videos of friends and family and light photography every now and then. This body is started to show its age with some screen issues and has a max record time of around 30 mins which is starting to annoy me. Im looking to upgrade my body but hopefully keep my existing lenses.
I was thinking of a Z5 but have heard that i will need an adapter to fit all my lenses and it might limit what video i can record.
Does anyone know of a decent body that would suit my needs?
All of my current lenses are AF Nikkor.
(edit: current and most used lens is a DX 18-105 1:3.5-5.6G ED lens)
Thanks in advance!
