Discussion Bad reputation last name

• Upvotes

Do you guys think it’s worth it to switch last names, if my family has made a horrible name for themselves?

Screwing other business over big time, big criminal charges, putting the name all over failed business etc.

Has any other business owners switched names for similar reasons?

First name also included since I’m a JR

Discussion Did I make a mistake when naming my third daughter..?

• Upvotes

My husband and I had our third daughter last January. Our older girls both have short, spunky two-syllable names (Cleo and Ivy) and our original name for our third daughter was going to be Thea. I loved the name, even though it wasnt on my radar prior to the pregnancy. Since we’d also always loved the name Gwen, it wasn’t much of a pivot when my daughter came out and I thought “that’s definitely my Gwen.” She really embodies the name (sweet and tender), but literally NO ONE has had a kind word to say about her name…my husband and I can’t help but wonder…did we make a mistake?!

Baby Names Give me your favorite S names!

Due in December with a no name baby boy!
Our last name is a longer Russian sounding name starting with S. So far we’ve really gravitated towards Sasha and Salem. But after calling him those names for a few days we are not so sure. We like fun and different names, staying away from traditional names, but we also aren’t going to name him something like Salt or Sprout, lol.

Also, thoughts about Sasha or Salem are welcome too!

Baby Names Thomas or Tomas, European country (NL)

We’re having our first this winter 🤍 I am Latin American and my husband is Dutch. We live and will likely stay in his country for the foreseeable future.

It was very hard to come up with a name that we both liked and works in both countries, but we like Tomas a lot!

My only issue with it is its pronunciation. I/my family would pronounce it Tomás instinctually, while Dutch people would call him Thomas, as that would be the standard pronunciation. We thought about requesting close Dutch family to go with the Tomás pronunciation, but it feels like pushing it.

Nicknames like Tommy/Tomi and Tom are universal.

I’m apprehensive about giving my child a problem by not giving him a name with a clear pronunciation. I also fear feeling a little odd/feel a disconnect by calling my child something that everyone in his daily life would pronounce differently…

What are your thoughts? Especially valuable if you’re a bilingual household 🙏🏻

Baby Names Child doesn’t like their name

Does anyone else’s child say they don’t like their name?

I named my little girl Victoria and to me it’s a classic name that will work perfectly for a little girl through adulthood. (No nicknames, no Vicky or Tori. Just Victoria or “V” to close family members.)

Her baby sister is named Isabella and she comments she prefers that name. Whilst it’s a very pretty name, to me there’s just something about the strength and elegance of “Victoria” that can’t be beaten.

Is this a phase that all kids go through? I told her I think she will end up loving her name one day and I hope that’s true. 🙏🏽 💕

Baby Names Looking for a girls name meaning wild and brave

I’m looking for a girls name for future daughter meaning wild and/or brave. I’m thinking “barefoot in the woods”, full-of-grit warrior. I considered Artemis but it’s a little too ‘Greek mythology’ for me, though I’m not totally against uncommon names. I’m very much a dreamer so understand that the “perfect” name doesn’t exist but am still curious to see the suggestions!! I’m based in North East US and my daughter will be French, Italian, and Ecuadorian. Thanks in advance!

Names I’m considering:

Sylvie/Sylvia
Amalia
Emmeline
Alessia

Discussion Names of Jazz Greats - Why do they all sound and look so cool?

Duke Ellington

Miles Davis

Thelonious Monk

Ella Fitzgerald

Billie Holliday

I like to read so when I was considering names for my daughters I would imagine them typed out on the cover of a book and whether it would look cool or not. But I feel like the names of these jazz greats are in a different league.

Did anyone else here think similarly when naming their child(ren)?

Baby Names What does everyone think of these names?

Names I’ve been thinking of for my next baby. I have one daughter named Liana Daisy. Wondering what everyone thinks of the flow of the names, how well they work together, and the names in general.

Girls:

Quinn Cecilia (my favorite)

Cecilia Emily (my wife’s favorite)

Boys:

Quinn Elliott

Emilio Quinn (worried that these names don’t go together)

Emilio Jenaro (Jenaro is a family name, don’t love names that end with the same sound but they do go together).

Can you tell we love the name Quinn? Lol

Baby Names Is Wynn/ Wyn an annoying name to live with?

My partner and I are considering Wynn for our baby, but we're concerned that it might rhyme with/ sound like too many things. Obviously there's "win", but also "go in", which we say to our cat about ten times a day

It doesn't help that our dialect tends to pronounce "when" pretty similarly. At least one person we mentioned it to thought we were thinking of naming our baby When. I find the phrase "when Wynn was" to be a bit of a tongue twister, and that's something a parent or teacher might say pretty regularly.

I'm not sure if we're overthinking this, so I'd love to hear from anyone who has this name or is close to someone who does.

Thanks!

Name List Looking for crisp, cool girl's names

I love Kristen/Krysten, Kendra, and Kara so far and I'm looking for names similar to those.

Nothing soft, cute, or flowy. But not something heavy or imposing either. Just something crisp, cool and no-nonsense like the names above?

If I'm making any sense, I'd love to hear more suggestions

Discussion Why did we ditch exotic names?

I have come to realize that many of the older names sound very cool and I wonder why we don't use exotic names anymore? It is pretty rare to meet somebody named Konrad, Eustace, Dietrich, Benedict, Lucius, Arnault. Say you are in Hungary, wouldn't it be cool to name your child after Arpad? Or what about one of the Legendary figures of Bohemia - Čech. I would have assumed prominent figures of a nation would have many people who follow them also name their kids after them to honor their significant contributions to the country.

I say this because my own parents named me after some general, I believe. It is a modern variant though
