No thank you the city of Mountain View, my daughter got hit by a car biking to LAHS on California Street this morning.

My daughter got hit by a car while biking to Los Altos High School on California Street this morning. A car crossing the apartment driveway could not see her in the bike lane. All these warnings and pleas to fix their new design, and now my own daughter gets hit by a car.

Beyond disheartened that our city ignores what residents on California St keep saying, and now this. *Beyond her bike being damaged and her hands, it could have been a lot worse had she not been taught to watch for this, and still it happened.*

W Middlefield x Terra Bella Ave road crossing

How do I request crosswalk blinking lights at W Middlefield Road and Terra Bella intersection ?

Many school kids need to cross the road and currently there is just a crossing sign but not many vehicles respect that and stop even if there is a pedestrian waiting to cross.
Especially at night the sign may not be visible and adding pedestrian blinking lights will be much safer

Voting in San Jose for the first time? Free way to see your whole ballot

• Upvotes

I work on this (Bay Area organizer for Change.vote). It's free and nonpartisan: enter your address and it lays out every race on your San Jose ballot in plain English, including the local stuff nobody explains. It doesn't tell you who to vote for. Check it out!

Mountain View(10.25% sales tax??). Mercury News Endorses NO on Measure RTM.

Remarkable what happens when someone reads the legal tax of what this $17B regressive blank check is - and knows the RTM traffic impact studies were written by transit contractors and RTM donors.

1b1b apartment recommendations

Hello,

I’m moving to mountain view area for my job and would love to get some apartment recommendations.

I’m looking for a 1b1b in Mountain View, sunnyvale, santa clara areas

My budget is ideally around 3.5k

I’m looking for a luxury building where both my car and packages are safe. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews where people complain about these 2 things.

I want good amenities like a gym, pool, jacuzzi.

All the prometheus apartments which is in most reddit recommendations seem to be 4k+ which is out of my budget.

My shortlist:
- Monticello
- tamarind square
- windsor apartments
- Encasa
- mansion grove

There seems to be one called Eaves middlefield which is cheaper but it doesn’t have in unit laundry

Looks like a change of ownership on Castro Street, and from what I could gather Cafe Ikebana will serve Japanese snacks and drinks including cocktails at night. Sounds interesting!

Searchable interactive map of MVgo/MVCS and surrounding public transport

https://sfbapt.com/map

Hey everyone, I finally updated the map and included a lot of UI improvements so it should be more intuitive and faster now. Main updates:

  • quickly toggle all the agencies on/off using button (top right)
  • collapse/expand the info box by tapping |hide| (top left)
  • search and filter the agencies that show up in checkbox list (top right)
  • search and filter the actual routes and stops that show up on map (bottom right)
  • link back to homepage in case you can't figure something out or want more info (bottom right)

To get an idea of the map search and filter, try this:

  • zoom out all the way
  • select the Show Stops option (top right)
  • type -120 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -121 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -122 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -123 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)

Another interesting thing that might not be obvious is you can now link to specific spots by copying the url directly. For example:

I made a post a couple months ago with specific info about transit in Mountain View and most of the info is still relevant, so take a look there. Some notable changes since then include new routes by MVgo during concerts:

Let me know if you have any questions or something doesn't work, otherwise share this with your Mountain View/Caltrain/Muni transit friends!

Plein air painting on 10.09.26 of Shoreline Park (Mountain View, CA)

From my recent visit to Mountain View to see family! I had a bit of time to scope out Shoreline Park, and was entranced by the all the kiters on the water, as well as the beautiful foliage colors.

Painted with Holbein Acryla (matte acrylic) on 300 gsm paper - one of my favorite mediums along with gouache!

MVWSD Community Forum October 11 2026 Mountain View Whisman School District School Board Candidates Forum
Link: https://youtu.be/LlTJwd23NMw

Candidates in alphabetical order by last name
1. Devon Conley
2. William (Bill) Lambert
3. Quintin Riis
4. Sundar Subbarayan

Reply Order  | 1st        | 2nd        | 3rd        | 4th
---------|------------|------------|------------|-----------
1.        | Conley     | Lambert    | Riis       | Subbarayan
1. Who Should Decide What Gets Cut?
With further budget cuts approaching, let's focus on the decision-making process rather than specific positions or programs. Should recommendations come primarily from the superintendent, independent reviewers, a districtwide task force, community input, or the board itself?
When these groups disagree, whose judgment should carry the most weight, and why? Beyond the board's final approval, who should determine which specific cuts are proposed?

2.        | Lambert    | Riis       | Subbarayan | Conley
2. Personal Accountability: What Do You Regret?
Looking back on your experience as a board member, community advocate, or education professional, what is your biggest regret about a decision you made, supported, or participated in? What did you get wrong, what did you learn, and what would you do differently today?

3.        | Riis       | Subbarayan | Conley     | Lambert
3. Educational Technology: Beyond Screens or No Screens
Debates about technology often become debates about screen time. Yet well-designed technology, particularly AI and creation tools, may help struggling students, challenge advanced learners, and improve accessibility, even at younger ages. At the same time, much current ed-tech encourages consumption, prioritizes distraction, shortens attention spans, and increases dependence on technology to think for them.
Is there right technology right now important for K-8 students? How should MVWSD distinguish technology that genuinely improves learning from technology that undermines it?

4.        | Subbarayan | Conley     | Lambert    | Riis
4. What Are We Preparing Students For?
What should a K–8 education ultimately prepare students for? High school, college, careers, a global and AI-driven world, lifelong curiosity, responsible citizenship, personal well-being, or a meaningful and happy life?
These goals aren't mutually exclusive, but limited time and resources require priorities. What should MVWSD prioritize, and what would you change about our current approach to achieve those goals?

5.        | Conley     | Lambert    | Riis       | Subbarayan
5. Academic Achievement
The Orenda study identified achievement gaps, inconsistent instruction, and interventions that haven't sufficiently improved outcomes for some students. MVWSD is now implementing the MVWSD Way. What is the single most important change needed to improve student learning?

How would you measure its success, particularly for struggling students, and how long should the district continue an approach before reconsidering it?

6.        | Lambert    | Riis       | Subbarayan | Conley
6. Preparing for a Different-Sized District
After years of planning for growth, MVWSD now faces projections of declining enrollment, potentially uneven across schools, alongside continued demand for choice programs.
Should MVWSD reconsider school configurations, attendance boundaries, campus diversity, staffing efficiency, and school redesign? What evidence and values should guide these decisions, and how should families and staff be involved?

7.        | Riis       | Subbarayan | Conley     | Lambert
7. What Should the Board Do Differently?
Recent scrutiny of district spending, contracting, and oversight has raised questions about accountability. While the extraordinary audit found insufficient evidence of illegal fiscal practices, it identified opportunities for improvement. Some concerns were raised early by a minority of board members or community members.
What specific practices would strengthen oversight, identify problems earlier, and rebuild public trust? How should the board distinguish between unproductive dissent and legitimate warnings, while avoiding groupthink within the majority?

8.        | Subbarayan | Conley     | Lambert    | Riis
8. Beyond Budget Cuts: What Excites You?
MVWSD won't always be focused on cuts. What is one idea, innovation, or opportunity you're excited for the district to explore, whether now, despite limited resources, or in a future with greater financial flexibility?

Totally random but couldn't find anything online. I know google has an outdoor roller rink facility and was curious if anyone knows of any pick up games going on here on the weekends? I've seen some ball hockey games going on while playing the back 9 at shoreline. Let me know.
