I was looking where Monaco was in Europe and then I noticed how the mountains look like the shape of a man reaching out.

His head is Czechia, his left arm is the Carpathians, his right arm is the Alps (reaching out to Monaco), and the Balkans is his torso. Greece might be one of his legs?

I built a web tool that makes maps from CSV Excel, manual creation is also available

Hi everyone

I work in GIS, and for years I've watched colleagues in other departments (marketing, finance, research) struggle with QGIS/ArcGIS or Tableau just to make one simple map for a report. They just have a spreadsheet and need a choropleth map. It shouldn't be that hard.

So, over the last few months, I built Sublimap: a browser-based tool that turns CSV or Excel files into thematic maps in about 30 seconds. No install, no signup, no GIS knowledge required.

What you can do

  • Upload a CSV/XLSX with a geo identifier (ISO codes, country names, NUTS codes) and one or multiple value column.
  • Auto-detects the map level in case of GISCO data.
  • Maps cover the world, continents, and almost all countries with official projections and first-level administrative divisions.
  • Choose palettes (Viridis, Cividis, etc.).
  • 6 data clasifications: Quantiles, Equal intervals, Manual intervals, Natural breaks, continues scale and standar deviation. all can choose the number of breaks
  • You can modify legend title and legend columns, choose between boxes or bar legend
  • Other custom options as border colors and ticknes, title.
  • Export PNG/JPG/SVG with the legend baked in.
  • Manual mode: click on countries to paint categories if you don't have data. Also can find the area in case you do'tk nof where is or ti is small
  • Project files: save your work as a .json file to share and edit collaboratively.
  • Data transparency: each map includes the projection EPSG and data source for proper citation.
  • 100% in the browser — your data never leaves your machine.

What it doesn't do (yet):

  • No custom shapefile uploads.
  • No live data connections.

I'm not trying to replace GIS software like QGIS or ArcGIS. This is for the 80% of cases where someone just needs a map for a report and doesn't want to learn a full GIS stack.

The tool is called Sublimap and it's live here: https://sublimap.eu

I'm at a point where I'm getting some traction, but I'm really looking for feedback from other makers. What do you think of the UX? Is anything confusing or missing? What features would you like me to add or improve?

For the next steps, I want to:

  • Add more regional divisions for countries
  • Add local administrative boundaries and ZIP codes
  • Add an option to upload a CSV or Excel with coordinates and plot them as points on the map
  • Allow users to share their creations inside the app with a user account
